“Hanelli, I figured you’d need some practice on your English, I figure we could do something less active, like helping craft and repair stuff… It’d allow me to actually teach you some English, meet me at the Sarum Camp,” he said sleepily in the message. He was still in bed when he was making the message. The thought and just occurred to him, since she had asked him to help her with her English. He couldn’t deny the eye candy that came with it either. It was a voice message because he wasn’t sure about the limitations of the text system. Well he was actually too lazy to write in Kanji and Hiragana at that moment. The Kanji was annoying to remember. There were too many different symbols that didn’t make sense, he’d often forget it. Well, regardless, speaking was a lot easier for him anyways. He got out from his tent, the burning sun cooking the very skin that was exposed to it. He yawned and stretched his arms wide, trying to wake himself up. With a few slaps to the face, he splashed some water and got out his tailor equipment. He began looking for a nice shady spot, covered by several canopies. It was the pseudo market here at the Sarum camp. It was more of a staging area for people who were ready to go out and fight, but Ryuu wanted to take it easy today, which is why he decided to do some repairs for equipment. While he was only good at working on cloth and tailor items, he figured having Hanelli here to make potions would be good so that she could sell and provide for the adventurers who were ready to go out. He set aside a table and workspace for her after claiming the two stands in the staging area for his own.
He placed up a sign showing his job class and placed another one for Hanelli so she’d have some advertisement, and because he doubted she could write English. As he waited for Hanelli to show up, a customer came by bringing by his damaged leather armor. Ryuu took the piece and began inspecting it. He noticed that armor was in pretty rough shape. It had been hit in several places, lessening the strength of it. Ryuu took a few pieces of leather and began boiling them in water in order to toughen them up. He looked towards the adventurer and told him the prognosis. “It’s damaged pretty bad, but I know a way to make it new again. Come back in an hour… the leather should be done boiling by then, and it’ll be sewed straight on. It’s a patch up job, but it’ll work as if it was new,” he said to him. The adventurer thanked him and headed off to go kill time for an hour.

Han had decided to stay over in that ‘makeshift lab’ that she’d decided to claim as her own (because she was still in the process of working out details for an anti-Paralysis potion) when she got a message from Kumori—and she was surprised that it was a voice message, and it was also in Japanese. Nodding her head as she listened to the entirety of said message, she decided to go get some extra materials and bring along the basic outdoors version of her Pharmacist’s Kit so that she could have some additional supplies in order to be able to get a sort-of ‘business’ rolling. Who knew if there were people who were going to be requesting actual potions and stuff; better being all this and some firewood on the safe side… she thought as she quickly scooped up the materials she’d needed and then tossed them all into her Inventory, which was like some kind of ‘hammer space’ due to the seemingly limitless number it could hold—and then shuffled her way out of the ‘abandoned building’.
Seeing that the sun was up, but not too hot (that made travel extremely uncomfortable) she then made her way over to the Sarum site; which was by cutting her way through the Windsor area, taking one of her ‘secret paths’ that only she had memory of—and finally arriving at the great big mess of a camp; and then she began looking around for what served to be their ‘marketplace’ for the explorers in these parts. After searching through the area, she finally arrived at the location shed been looking for—and saw that Kumori had already set up two places—one for his own use, and she noticed that there were some materials laid out as well; and he was already working on something—and there was another spot reserved and she read it, but couldn’t understand it, yet it had her name on it, and there was a table, ready to be used.
“Good morning,” she said in his direction, giving him a wave and then leaping nimbly across the table that had the signage set up with her name on it—and then began to set up her ‘outdoor lab’ when suddenly, a harried-looking Bard came up to her ‘booth’ as well and then began asking if they could make some recovery potions for her. She looked at them confused, before looking at the sign—and then realizing that she was there to both make and sell stuff of her own. She then held up her hand to signify to wait just a moment, before quickly getting out her copied ‘recipe list’ and then consulting it; before turning back to the Bard and then holding out the list, and then began pointing to the two recovery items that were on the list. After some pointing and gesturing, they had come to an agreement that Han was to make a Medicinal Tablet—and the Bard even slapped down some cash; as well as some basic materials that he was providing, and then said something about ‘coming back in an hour or so’ to pick up the finished product.
At least I can understand simple English now… she thought as she gave a sheepish grin in Kumori’s direction, who was apparently assessing the damage to a worn-down piece of armor, and then she spoke in his direction, “Well, that took a while, but at least I’ll get something done,” she said, quickly getting started on making the Medicinal Tablet—she didn’t want to keep the customer waiting in any case. She then began the process by taking out the mortar and pestle, and then quickly dumping in the two Impure Tablets that the Bard had left behind for her to use, and then began pounding away at the material with the pestle—she knew that she needed to get it into as fine a powder as she could before going on to the next step, which was adding the Impure Solvent to the mix. Well since they had all day here, and it was the morning where business would be pretty slow, Ryuu figured it’d be a good time to teach her English and English words. It also meant that he’d be able to get to know her a bit more. It was during these times that he enjoyed the company of a person he didn’t really know. With the language barrier Hanelli had with other people, he thought it’d be better if she at least had someone to talk to. The inability to talk to anyone or express your feelings often led to insanity of some sort. Ryuu turned to Hanelli and smiled. “So… what did you do on your free time in the real world?” he asked her in Japanese. He then instructed her to “try to answer in English, and when you don’t know a word, say it in Japanese, and I’ll tell you the English word,” he said to her in English. While he was making small talk, he was still trying to get her to speak the language more.
After the leather finished boiling, he began hammering it down in order to make it stiffer so that it would provide decent protection to the user. It wasn’t difficult to match the thickness of the armor. After he did so, he sewed it and patched the armor he was given earlier to fix and then finished it off by hammering the leather together so that the bump was less noticeable. After hammering it, he set it out in the sun to dry and tan so that it would become hard enough to fend against sharp and blunt attacks. He began preparing to craft more armor for newcomers or those who simply needed new armor to use. He turned over to Hanelli once again and asked her, “So how do you like it here in Elder Tales? It’s probably not what you were expecting to get into, but now that it’s become our reality, how do you feel about it?” he asked her in English and in Japanese so that she’d understand it. He tried to encourage her to speak in English, and he knew that if he only spoke in English, it wouldn’t help her any whatsoever. After he asked that, he then asked: “So were you always an orphan? Or did you lose your parents because of something? Don’t feel inclined to answer,” he asked and said genuinely. He wanted to get to know the other Assassin. He’d share his own story if she felt a bit awkward about talking about her own past, so Ryuu waited for her reply and if she kept silent for a little bit, Ryuu would begin speaking of her sister who he had lost a few years back.

Seeing that he was going to be taking this tack in teaching her the ‘other language’ (to avoid potentially awkward situations at least) by asking it first in the native tongue, but instead trying to answer it in the second language. Seeing as she was still grinding up the Impure Tablets in order to be able to concoct the Medicinal Tablet, she thought pensively for some time, while the pestle was busy grinding away at the tablets in the mortar. After a bit, the answer finally came to her, although she was having some difficulty tying to say it in English—though the first sentence came out easy. “I…trees,” she said, finally deciding to try and get it via gesturing. She then placed the pestle down and then indicated, by way of her hands, that she loved climbing them and hanging out in them. “I like climbing trees,” she said in a combination of English and Japanese—though the word ‘climbing’ was said in Japanese instead, and she ended with a sheepish grin on her face. “I also like reading,” she said in accented English this time, before continuing, “…manga. Have quite a collection of it, all in Japanese of course,” she said, the Japanese words intermingling with the English she’d picked up from listening to not only Kumori—but to everyone else around the camp.
After that bilingual explanation, she continued to grind the Impure Tablets together and saw that they were now ground up into a powdery solution—but the recipe called for something so finely ground it resembled white sand, so she continued to grind the pestle around the bowl, until she tapped the sides of it and saw that it was now sticking to the edges quite nicely. She then picked up the bottle of the Impure Solvent and then began adding a little bit of it to the powdery mix at a time, swishing the pestle around until she had some kind of sticky mixture in the bowl. Once the bottle had been emptied, she took a look at her copy of the recipe, and then proceeded to mix the two together until it was of a consistency that was close to cake batter—or something similar along those lines. All the while, he was asking her questions, and then she got around to talking—never mind that the sentences were coming out as if being spoken by a translator who was out of practice.
Noting that he was asking in both languages, she decided to take a stab at answering in English altogether, but only coming up with half the words right—“I thought it was going to be like the Japanese server, where you could get out once the day is over…and then the Disaster happened,” she trailed off, looking pensively at the mixture in the bowl. Now came the question she didn’t want to answer—but since she felt relaxed around him, she decided to go into the story with as much English as she could muster from her language classes back home. “For starters, my real name is Momiji, people call me Momo back in the real world—and I did have my original family at some point. My dad left us for another family or something like that… and that made my mother so depressed, she sank down and gave up two years after he did that. I was just eight at the time, and nobody from both sides of the family wanted to take me in—so I was sent off to the local orphanage, and I grew up there,” she said, wondering if he’d noticed that half the time she was switching languages for the words (or sentences) she didn’t know.
She then took a look at the gunk in the bowl and saw that when she lifted the pestle, there was some kind of ‘trail’ after it, so she knew she was right on track. “Give me a moment, have to cook this up real quick,” she said, turning towards the miniature fire that was set up some ways away from her stall and quickly pulling out a small pan and then shaking said mixture into it, and then blowing on the coals so that the fire would get going. Knowing that it was going to take a while before the mixture hardened to a point where she could mold it, she then fanned the flames for a bit before returning to the stall—and continuing the story. “I stayed there for a long time, until I was almost eighteen. Then, they came.” [766] [2 / 3 for making Medicinal Tablet] [JP dialogue is italicized, ENG dialogue has no special effects applied to it]

Hanelli tried her hardest at speaking in English. All the words in Japanese she said, he would say back to her in English, hoping she would repeat it to him when she made those type of mistakes. She explained that she was hoping it’d be like the Japanese version where they would be able to exit the game normally. Ryuu shrugged and simply said: “Well, it’s unknown whether any of the servers were effected. My guess would be that if we were transported here as our players, I have no doubt the same thing happened elsewhere,” he said to her. While he didn’t know much more about the truth, he did believe there was a huge possibility that there were more to the Catastrophe than what they see here. With no ability to look across millions of miles away, it would be impossible to know until certain items were made to allow such feats.
“Momo… Momiji… what beautiful names,” he said to her. He did not have a similar name as his name was made fierce in order to bring tradition of his Japanese background. “I don’t tell this to many people, but since you told me your real name, I’ll tell you mine. My name is Oshiro, Ryuunosuke… but my friends call me Ryuu for short. I do hope, however, that you don’t tell anyone my real name. I’d like to keep that private, and while it is not any of my business, I think you should keep your name a secret as well,” he said. He cared about his identity and he would not allow just anyone to know it. It was what he held onto, the hope and the knowledge that there was still the old reality. She gave a pretty quick summary of what happened to her, which Ryuu could only nod and listen to her troubles that she had gone through earlier. He nodded and sighed as he looked saddened because of her background. He then spoke to her about his own personal story.
“When I was younger, I lost my little sister in a car accident. I can’t say that I don’t regret what happened that day, but I can say that getting over it was the most difficult process. To be abandoned by your parents, the people who were supposed to raise you, I don’t know what it feels like, and I’m sorry for your loss and your hardship you had to endure,” he said to her.
More requests came by to repair armor, and so he did so with his hammer and his work table so that when people walked by, they would be able to see his handy work and maybe even advertise his business. This was the good thing about having crafts that were made out of quality materials. With more and more adventurers starting to pick up, he knew that the job would be somewhat busy, but at least he could still talk to Hanelli.

While she was waiting for the fire to actually start cooking the lump she’d tossed into the pan, she listened to his explanations—nodding and taking mental notes of which words translated into which; and it was a bit confusing to keep up with—but eventually she did get the hang of it. after the little quick language lesson, she nodded at his own hypothesis of what had happened when the Catastrophe struck—did it also affect other servers, or was it just their server that had gotten struck with the ‘problem’? She couldn’t say; but then he was now talking about a bit of background history about himself; and she paid close attention—since she did tell him a bit of what had happened to her since then. “So your name means ‘fierce dragon, or the child of a dragon, somewhere along those lines,” she said after a bit, the other half of the sentence still in their ‘mother language’.
“You know what? I’ll not tell anyone. It would be just between you and me, and you… you flatter me so,” she said after he’d praised it—but there was this slight coloration on her cheeks as well—and then even he had his own story to tell. “Well, kin attract fellow kin, that much I can say,” she said with a grin—and then his part of the stall became busy. She then heard the fire crackling, and then stood up and then quickly went over to fan the flames; and got a proper fire going—just as the Bard who’d commissioned the order wandered back into range—and saw that she was currently finishing up the brew. “Ah, miss, you almost done there?” she heard the Bard ask; to which she gave a nod; and then continued to fan on the fire—and then tilt the pan ever so slightly so that the bubbling ooze didn’t drip out. After a few more minutes, the ‘confection’ was complete, and she quickly took it off the fire and then beckoned the Bard to come over and watch as she completed the final steps of the recipe.
She then shook out the cooked matter onto a chopping board; and then dug through her inventory and finally fished out several ‘cutters’ that were of the circular shape; and she quickly slipped on a pair of gloves as well; before pressing the cutters down into the seemingly round shape that was made. The good thing was that it was still malleable; so she was able to make around several more pieces—definitely much more than what the Bard had originally asked for in the first place. Waste not, want not…. she thought as she quickly fished out some wax paper from the Kit’s storage and then wrapped up the tablets, before presenting the entire thing to the Bard, who nodded in approval and even took a whiff of it. “Smells good girl, here, have some extra payment,” he said quickly slapping down extra coins on her side of the table; and she then felt this sense of accomplishment.
Well then, that went off without a hitch, she thought—but now there were more people milling around her part of the stall, now clamoring for extra orders of Medicinal Tablets and Burn Cream—she now had some experience in using the recipe for the Tablets; but now had to start making the Burn Cream from scratch—apparently the person who had requested it had gotten in the way of a Fire-based attack and needed something to hasten the recovery of his injury. “Please come back in an hour,” she said in her accented English, before giving them all a bow—most of them had also left the necessary ingredients that she needed to use; which was very kind of them. Either that or they’re just butt-lazy… she thought with a chuckle as she stole a look at Kumori’s stall—there were a lot of adventurers requesting for their armor to be fixed or repaired. Heh, we’re making good business here… she thought, suddenly breaking out into a whistle as she prepared the working place once again in order to make the required orders that they were asking from her. Ryuu nodded at her conjecture of the meanings of his name. Her name meant read leaves or maple trees which is why he thought it was a beautiful name. The turning of colors of leaves was a wonderful season to partake in. Where the ground is littered with colors of red, yellow and orange, it was a season he longed for whenever it came close by. He loved to play in the leaves when he was younger, and even now, he’d enjoy his time by taking pictures when he saw the opportunity to. Business was indeed booming, as it was approaching the time where most adventurers would party up and march off to do the combatting and scouting for the camp. More armor requests came by, and Ryuu continued to toil away at his work. He wondered if Hanelli would ask him any questions while they talked. Well, it was no matter, he’d rather learn more about the girl than himself, and if she was interested in learning more about him, Ryuu wouldn’t mind answering the questions she posed for him. “So… why did you choose an Assassin?” he asked in English and in Japanese. Assassins were quite popular, and he knew a few female Assassins, but he always wondered what their reasons were. His own was that it was one of the classes he had yet to play in Elder Tales, and yet they were usually his favorite class. He chose to do Assassin this time around because he wanted to experiment with the strength of their abilities. While the experiment was no reality, he was less likely to explore the possibilities of the Assassin and go with what he already knew was a good build.
People came and go to pick their armors up. They usually paid him well, even when they were bringing their own material, most times. He thanked his customers and continued working on the crafts. There were plenty of people to craft for, and until the night was finished, Ryuu figured he’d stay here to work. The time was nearing noon, and he figured it’d be a good time to take a break and get some food. He looked towards Hanelli and asked in both English and Japanese: “Do you want to go get some lunch… We’ve been working all day, and I know some chefs have already set up mini restaurants here. I know of a really good one… My treat, since I called you out here,” he said to her with a smile. Lunch date with a girl? Say it ain’t so!. Well it was so. Ryuu was still trying to be as cool about it as possible, but he was definitely attempting to woo her in every direction he could. He smiled towards her and gave a genuine smile, trying to show that there really were no strings attached to this lunch. Just a friendly conversation while they took a break from working so hard.
Ryuu would offer his hand to her so that he could lead her to the place he planned on going to.

Seeing that the camp was now steadily filling up with adventurers who were now preparing to go out into the unknown—she stole a glance and saw that there were quite a lot of people requesting for their armor to be fixed—in rare cases she heard snatches of conversation asking if they could have new armor made—and here she was, going through the same process of making the Medicinal Tablets. Since her own style of making the Tablets turned out to be more like ‘pancakes’, she decided to try and roll them into a smaller, much more convenient size whenever she got the chance. While there was a lull in the orders, she heard him ask her a question—and she looked up, quite thoughtful. Her reason sounded so…childish, so crazy, but at least it was the truth. She also noted that he’d asked the question in both languages, so she decided to humor her companion and answer. “Well, to be honest, I chose the Assassin class…because it’s the closest one can be to a Ninja, and since they don’t have that option, I decided to go with it anyway. Though I chose the Elvin race because they’re good with moving around, so that may be a bonus in itself—though the long ears leave much to be desired,” she said, half the sentence still coming out in English—and Japanese.
At that point, she decided to brush her hair back and show him said ‘pointy’ ears—and continued; “I don’t know how fellow Elves recognize each other on sight; all I’ve seen are fox-tails, and Half-Alvs, and of course, Human. Haven’t seen a fellow Elf as of yet…” she continued, as she was now finishing up grinding the tablet and now preparing the part where she would ‘cook’ the mixture. At the same time, she then began preparations for the Burn Cream mix; and knew that this one had to be done in a pot, so she quickly opened her Inventory and dropped out the ‘basic’ pot that she’d used for brewing liquid mixtures, and got everything else ready. Some time had passed—and she’d finished making the Medicinal Tablet (and had gotten a tip again as well) and she was now working on concocting the Burn Cream when she heard him ask if she was hungry. Right at that point, a loud rumble echoed from her stomach, and she felt the color drain from her face. “Gah, I hope you didn’t hear that, that was so embarrassing,” she said, quickly turning around so that he couldn’t see that her face was now a shade of pink. After hearing the rumbling noise again, she then decided to face him and then said, “Why not? Lead the way if you please,” she said, seeing that he was already offering his hand for her to take.
Go on… she thought, quickly taking the proffered hand, and then flipping out a sign that had something written on it in front of her stall that said (in her best English) ‘Out for Lunch’…just in case people started looking for her services.

Hanelli answered his question quite honestly. While a bit childish, he smiled and chuckled. “Well, everyone has their reasons,” he said to her, “no matter how childish or mature it is, they are always good reasons,” he said in English and Japanese. “Besides, it makes sense. I usually choose rogue-type classes whenever I play, so picking the Assassin was somewhat of a no brainer… that and I really wanted to try this class when I first got the game and played the Japanese version. Unfortunately, when I started playing here, the Apocalypse happened,” he said to her. He shrugged. The Assassin was probably the best class he could be stuck in. He was used to it and truly enjoyed the dynamics of the Assassin. In addition to that, it was the most offensive and best PvP class type. His skill set was based around doing the most amount of damage with the least amount of time. It was what he loved best… efficiency.
After asking about lunch, the girl’s stomach growled, and Ryuu turned over to her, chuckled, and smiled. “That answered my question,” he teased her a bit. She turned away to blush, but Ryuu assumed it was for that reason she turned away. He didn’t care too much about it, but it did indeed seem like she was getting closer to him. He definitely didn’t mind. When she grabbed his hand for him to lead her to the restaurant tent he was thinking of, he smiled. He didn’t want the moment to end, but like all good things, they had to end some time.
