Do you believe in ghosts?
Saber rumbled to himself as Kitty joked with him on the staircase in the Lobby, however he kept his mouth shut and simply looked at her for a moment before turning away and guiding her up the stairs. His mind was a fog when it came to this place but he had been here before. He knew he had, and it was strange that he couldn’t remember any of it. Why was that? Was he struck on the head and thrown back out? Did he die before? Or maybe it was just a dream, or an illusion? Saber’s teeth clenched together and his hand squeezed down slightly on Kitty’s as his mind unraveled the various possibilities. Very few things in this world made Saber hesitate, but the thought that something here was able to kill him, him, made him fearful. Though, not for himself; but for Kitty. If there was something in this Mansion that could bring him down, knowing full well that he would be doing everything possible to end its life; then bringing the blonde with him was inevitable going to lead to her being killed. As he reached the top of the Lobby’s staircase, Saber looked over his shoulder towards Kitty for a moment and eyed her.
He wanted to warn her again, or at least pull her closer to him to try and comfort his own leery mind, but then he felt her squeeze his hand tighter. That simple motion cleared his mind and caused his lips to seal together; he wouldn’t speak. Doing so would most likely made her even more frightened, so he would have to keep his worries to himself. With that in mind, he turned his head forward, lifted his shoulders, took in a deep breath, and then exhaled slowly. With careful steps, he carried himself and guided Kitty into the next hall, walking straight through the two large doors. His first step vanished behind the black, smoky veil that protected the next zone from the lobby, but the wall of darkness lifted the instant his foot touched down on the floor beyond. The Assassin grit his teeth at the sound of his heel stomping and stared straight ahead into the small hall which greeted the two players. His mind twisted and he felt a pain in his stomach; something wasn’t right here, and it was quite obvious.
Before them wasn’t a place his mind could recognize or even hint to him being at before, but it was also something he immediately recognized as dangerous; the hall was a straight line. On one end of the hall were Saber and Kitty as well as the door to the Lobby. On the other end were two Black Suits of armor that stared back towards the players, and behind them was the next set of doors that the players needed to pass through if they wanted to continue. Along the walls, there were several portraits of various famous Persons of the Land, and all of them stared straight into the middle of the hall. There were also a few small tables with snacks, food, and silverware on them, most likely for the previous guests, which made Saber believe that some sort of party may have gone on the night the mansion became abandoned, or sometime around then. Though, what bothered Saber was not just the fact that the hall was just essentially one huge funnel, but also the fact that there were no doors to any others rooms. The hall that was in front of him was just a straight line with the next set of doors at the opposite end of where the two players stood, and there were two knights defending the path that they needed to walk. Blumpy himself even seemed a little hesitant, and it whimpered at the sight of the hall.
The linear fashion of the hall, the sight of the Black Knights, and the lack of any other exits said only one thing about this place; trap, there was nothing else this hall could be. It was a connection into the next zone, but they weren’t going to make it through very easily now were they? Nothing was easy and Saber was becoming used to that, but right now it was unnecessary. He simply wanted to continue into the next area. With Kitty by his side and on his mind, fighting would be difficult. Not only would he have to mind himself, but he would have to keep her from being injured as well; he couldn’t let himself get carried away. Yet, there was only one way through.
“Kitty… Ready your staff.” The hand which held Kitty’s pulled itself free and Saber took a few steps into the hall. As he did so, his hands slid onto his lower back and the man pulled out his two twin daggers; the Interstellar Twins. His blades were far too large for the current zone, and he had a feeling that things would get too tight for him to be able to use his bow. With his daggers, Saber would be able to remain nimble enough to engage anything and everything which came at them. However, he also had another reason for using them. Both blades glowed a gentle red, as the passive reforge effect automatically activated once the weapons became “equipped”.
“This isn’t going to be fun.” While he spoke, Saber took a few steps forward into the hall. On the opposite end, four red eyes illuminated as the Black Knights came to life. Saber narrowed his eyes and twirled his daggers around his fingers twice, and then clutched them into a reverse grip.
“Great…”
