[attr="class","textBox"] Saber rumbled lightly in his throat as he sat comfortable at the top of a building, his eyes scanning the crowd of Adventurers and Landers below. Busy, were the streets of Londinium and Saber hated that especially when he was searching for someone. The Assassin had been hired to track down a man by the name of Lundvist and was tasked with detaining him, a simple job for a Mercenary like himself who had plenty of experience doing these types of hunts. However, Londinium was a bit of a maze when it came to finding specific people. It was the exact form of the idiom, finding a needle in a haystack. What did not help was the fact that Lundvist probably knew that he was being hunted, so he was hiding. But Londinium wasn’t always advantageous for those being hunted. The city was large and had a huge network of alleyways and streets, but its population was congested to only the main zones.
“No eyes.”
“Nothing here either.”
“This guy is like a damned ghost.”
“Keep your eyes open.” Saber spoke up, cutting off the others as they spoke through the group party chat. Indeed, he was like a ghost, but even ghosts came out at some point. In order to scan the entire city, Saber had called upon three others he knew of that were all very good trackers and had sent them to other sectors of the city. So far, they had not found any clues but Saber, on the other hand, felt that he was close. Based on the information from the client, this location was the place Lundvist had a shop before and it was also where most of his acquaintances were. If he was going to get help, he would come here. His shop had been closed already and all of his things were locked down by the client so Lundvist wouldn’t go back to his shop, but there was one man he would go to.
“Bingo.” A hooded figure popped out from behind a building and then hurried into a small bakery; the man was large, several inches taller than Saber, and had quite a bit of muscle to him. He fit the bill and Saber had his man, but he didn’t call the others just yet. From his perch, which was positioned several houses up the street, Saber watched and waited for the man to come back outside. The man looked around himself and then pushed his way into the crowd of people, meshing and attempting to blend in as he walked up the road towards the gates. His eyes drifted to the rooftops, but Saber had already moved. Like a ghost himself, Saber blended into the shadows and disappeared. The target shuffled along with the crowd, peering out from beneath his hood as he moved. No one jumped out at him and no one screamed. No one even seemed to recognize the man as he eased closer and closer to the gates.
Once at the gates, the tall, hooded figure slipped from the crowd and hurried outside to the horse stables there. He ran inside the building and closed the door behind him; no one entered after. Several moments passed and then he reappeared out the back door, guided by one more body to the stables. The hooded man was given control of a horse and helped onto its back, and then guided out to the entrance to the pen. The doors opened and he hurried along. A shadow moved in the forest as he began to flee Londinium, but he didn’t get far. Out from the trees, an arrow shot out and pegged the man in the lower left side of his back. Electricity pulsed from the arrow head and the man fell off his horse, paralyzed. The horse ran for a few paces before a hooded man jumped out and stopped it. Three others emerged from the brush and surrounded the twitching Lundvist.
“Target acquired.” Saber muttered, strapping his bow to his back as he knelt down beside the Lander. The man grit his teeth and cursed as the electricity continued to cause his body to spaz. Saber didn’t answer and simply yanked his arrow free from the man. He left the binding job to the two other men and keyed his interface, connecting a telepathy session with the client. A woman answered.
“We’ve got him. The others will be taking him back to you. I’ll be by for payment later.” Saber spoke sharply and curtly to the woman on the other end. There were no complaints and after Saber ensured that the payment was the same as expected, he ended the session. Saber disbanded the party and the other three men went on their way, taking the captured Lundvist back to the client. Saber huffed and returned his used arrow to the quiver once he checked its quality. That was an uneventful job, but one that would yield him another three-thousand gold. Lundvist had information a certain group of people could not let become public and so, Saber had been sent to capture him. That was it, and jobs like that were ones Saber liked the most. They paid well and were extremely easy but just as one ended, another started; Saber’s interface buzzed and he was alerted to another incoming call.
“Go ahead.” Saber answered the call and his eyes narrowed as another woman spoke up; Lotus.
“I just picked up a tip that you might want to jump on. There’s a Lander who was separated from a friend at Windsor. He says that his friend was almost as close as family and he’s willing to pay quite a bit of money for someone to go get him.” Lotus spoke quick and she seemed out of breath. She must have been doing a job of her own, or was out hunting. That woman was almost level ninety and she was quite active these days. She must have really wanted it.
"Seems easy enough. Location?” Saber had already begun to head back to Londinium as Lotus informed him of the job and then elevated himself to the rooftops, ready to move depending on where she sent him.
“Last I saw him, he was in his store. It’s called the ‘Burnt Metal Warehouse’ and it’s near the west gate.” Saber had seen the store before so he knew where it was. The extra information that Lotus provided helped though and was a good reminder. Saber thanked her and then closed the call, heading to the shop quickly. Londinium was large but when taking the rooftops, one could shave off several minutes of travel time from place to place and being level ninety, Saber cut that time down even more. In just under ten minutes of moving, Saber jumped down to the streets and headed into the specified building.
“Welcome!” Saber was greeted almost immediately by a deep and healthy voice that came from across the room. The man that had called out to him was large, larger than six foot, and was extremely muscular. His biceps were almost the size of Saber’s torso and his chest looked it had been carved from stone. Jesus, did they have steroids in the game too? Saber didn’t bother asking further and headed right up to the counter, glancing into the cases as he walked by. The items weren’t of extremely high quality but they were well-made. This man must be a standard crafter.
“How can I help you today?” The man asked, placing his hands down on the counter as he looked down at the Assassin. Saber took one more glance around the room, but then finally looked up at the man before him.
“Actually, I’m here to help you. I heard from a friend of mine that you were looking for someone to head to Windsor.” Saber started out by explaining why he was there, which turned the conversation from exchange to quest. The Lander let out a sigh and stood back up, nodding and relaxing.
“You came quick. My wife just put out the request to the city’s center a few hours ago. Yes, I do need help and yes, I am looking for someone who would be willing to go to Windsor. My friend and I were separated while we were out hunting by some damned Goblins. I haven’t heard back from him and the guards haven’t seen him return either. I’m willing to pay if you’re willing to go.”
“No eyes.”
