Hiro approached the clearing, where the base camp was being created. It looked like this would be where the adventurers would set up shop, so they'd have a place to come to once they've done a little bit of exploration in the fields. There were little shops being set up, with food, weapons, and other provisions necessary for life on the frontier. This place became very popular very quickly with all different kinds of travelers, as well as a few People of the Land. There was certainly a profit to be gained from coming here and setting up shop, as the adventurers would eventually be needing things like food and weapons. No one knew what would be out here, so they might as well be prepared, even if it's a little bit over-prepared.
Hiro started to converse with the other players and People of the Land, seeing what he could do to set up the camp. Moving planks from one place to another, bags of food and metal, and helping push stopped carts were pretty much all a Monk could do here, since he didn't really have an eye for artistry. While he worked, he kept looking over to his friend list, where he would know whether or not his guild members were in close proximity or not. The thing about that was that the little icon for the guild member's class would light up when they were close. It was a fun and helpful bit of information that he used to his benefit, whenever it was necessary. But, he needed to keep an open eye, because the entirety of the guild would be showing up for this exploration quest. They'd be pioneers, of sorts.
The quest that they were going to be going on was a simple one, but it benefited everything that Apocrypha was established for. Exploration and information gathering: That was Midori's vision for the guild. As for Hiro, he couldn't really care less what they did in the long run, so long as he made his damn airship. That wasn't true, as he was interested in how this world was as well, but he really wanted to make that airship, no matter how long it takes. He was more than glad to have Renai as his crafting partner for this project, and knew that the project would soon enough envelop all of Apocrypha to create, but it would be well worth it in the end. This was what the guild was for, right? So how could it go wrong, if it benefits the guild?
He stopped to wipe a bit of sweat from his forehead, and looked towards where he had entered the camp from, hoping to see one of his comrades already there. But, to his dismay, no one else was there yet. It looked like he got there a bit extra early than he needed to be, seeing as he had been working for about an hour, moving stuff around. He stood up straight, and wandered over to the entrance, which was now built up to make an archway large enough for carriages to pass through. This place might as well be considered a village by this point, what with all the things that were up for it now. He chuckled to himself just a bit and decided to take a seat nearby the entrance, and waited for his guild-mates to eventually show up. It was about then that he realized that this may be one of the only few quests he's waited on people for without falling asleep beforehand. He didn't know why he would almost always take a nap, but he shrugged it off, chuckling to himself.

It had already been a while since the expedition notice was sent out, but there was still a lot of things that the exploring party needed to do. It would appear that a recent scouting group had made some progress with their findings as they discovered a mysterious map fragment of the area. Believing that more map fragments were hidden somewhere in the area, a second wave of explorers set off for the area. As such, a new camp was established not far away from the frontward advancing party. The frontline was mostly trying to build their camp outward in the direction of the city in the distance. Every time golem sentinels were defeated, the camp simply continued to move forward. It wasn't really a big surprise that they had to establish a second camp for those who were aiming toward scouting missions. If she had to equate this new area to something from her memories, it would have to be the Qilla Exploration Camp from Mabinogi. Minus the coastline, the Sarum Frontier had a similar characteristic. It was a good mix of grassland and hilly forests. Nevertheless, Apocrypha had signed up for the Scouting Mission. The primary objective was to survey the area and observe anything not currently in the collected data. The explorers were all provided with a small bestiary of Sarum-exclusive monsters detected thus far. It would appear that most of the common monsters had already been recorded. There was no telling where other monsters could have been, though. A lack of Strong and Elite monsters typically meant that they had not yet encountered any important sites within the area. Touko was now at the entrance to the newly-constructed camp. Between the large amount of crafters and hired People of the Land workers, the progress of this new base was pretty impressive. She took a look around and sighted her fellow guild co-leader sitting on a bench not a short distance away. Waving to him, she headed in his direction. "It seems that we're always the first ones here, doesn't it?" [attr="class","notesbg"]

Yawning, the Fox-tail stretched his arms and legs where he lay in some tall grass on the outskirts of the camp. Without informing the rest of the guild, Fernweh had moved out here the minute Hiro had announced the quest. He had always been a fan of this sort of thing, that thing being on the front lines of exploration. The thing he had not ever been a fan of, working. Which is why he was currently where he was, sprawled out in tall grass in the corner of camp, avoiding that bastard of a guild master.
Fernweh had become aware of the guild icon curse on one of their previous meetings. It lit up whenever a guildmate was close, which meant it could be used to track any of them to some extent. Knowing Hiro, he’d follow it straight to his position and drag him out to help set up camp. Noticing the guild icon flicker for a second, he flipped to his side, he curled up a bit, ears alert for a moment before drooping down. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.~ He was having none of that. The only way he’d be taken there was over his cold, dead, soon-to-be-revived-at-a-cathedral, corpse. Fernweh was only here for the mission after all.

Hiro looked up and to the side, seeing Midori walking up to him. He smiled to her, and stood up to greet her. What she spoke was the absolute truth, that her and Hiro were always the first ones to show up. He snickered and nodded to her, before verbally agreeing. "Yeah, I guess that's pretty true. Good to see you, either way, Midori." He turned to the gateway, looking up slightly from Midori. "I wonder where Fernweh is." He looked to the friend's list, and at the guild icon, seeing the class icon for Fernweh was lit up. He squinted a bit, and started to look around in the surrounding trees. He could tell that Fernweh was very close by, as the icon almost literally pointed Hiro towards the lazy Summoner. Hiro frowned, and started to move beyond Midori. "I'll be just a minute. Stay here, if you would." Hiro walked into the forest afterwards, searching for the male.
Hiro had a feeling that Fernweh might not even show up, and that he and Midori would need to do another mission on their own. They had done a large number of quests by themselves back when they both played Mabinogi, and he actually quite enjoyed the gaming time they had spent together in that world. But, in this world, there would need to be more interaction from the other guild members. Hiro didn't want this all to be a Hiro and Midori guild, since the two of them seemed to be doing most of the stuff in this guild. There needed to be more activity from the other two members of the guild, or else nothing would get done. Hiro frowned a bit as he approached where the Summoner was laying, and started to ascend the tree nearest the man.
Hiro got into a good position in the trees, and jumped down. Hiro fell with force, and whirled his arm back. A moment later, he shouted "Tiger Echo Fist!" and crashed into the ground next to the Fox-Tail, sending him up into the air a few feet. There was a small indentation in the ground where Hiro's fist had collided with the ground, from which he stood up and caught the Fox-Tail in the air. Hiro carried him fireman style back towards the entrance of the camp, before throwing the man out into the clearing. Hiro made sure that he caused only minimal damage to the Summoner, dealing at most 5% of his total health. For a Monk that is 6 levels higher than the Summoner, this was Hiro taking it as easily as possible. He sighed, and walked back over to Midori, motioning for Fernweh to follow him.
Hiro gave a smile to Midori again, and looked at the two of them. "Alright, so today's mission is pretty simplistic. We're just going to be doing some standard recon, and if push comes to shove, we'll have a few minor monsters to deal with. Now, the Bestiary has been updated to show the statistics on the more common enemies, so we'll know exactly what it is we'll be dealing with. With that in mind, why don't we all take a few minutes to gather up some food and other supplies. This may turn into an overnight observation trip, so why not be prepared, right?" Hiro gave a friendly smile to the two, and turned around. "If you guys don't want this to last longer than a day, we can turn in early. Just say so now, and gather up what you'll need for today. That being said, let's get this underway."

As far as their guild was concerned, it was mostly a casual exploration guild rather than anything particularly serious. Kazuko typically tended on focusing her efforts on creating a makeshift shrine adjacent to their guild base. Since the major buildings were still currently out of the reach of most Adventurers for the time being, it was a little difficult for their small group to upgrade. Hiro was the primary frontline member of the group while Touko focused on making the plans. On that other note, their fourth member typically used the guild base as a napping place. For this mission, it was supposedly just the three of them. Which, given the description of their third party member, meant that it was basically just her and Hiro. Fernweh had responded to the mission saying something like 'at least I can nap in the wild outdoors'. Speaking of Fernweh, Hiro had apparently noticed that the guy was nearby and had proceeded to go fishing. The activation of Tiger Echo Fist had caused a number of people within the surrounding area to stare oddly at the red-haired Monk as he plucked the hiding man like a fish. Good thing they weren't in town for this. That sort of action without an official duel request in advance would have caused a Royal Guard to join in the fun. "Well, I did manage to get the recipe for those pork buns back from the New Years event." she responded to Hiro's statement saying that their travels might take up most of the whole day. "I made sure to grab a few just in case we need some extra supplies." From personal experience though, it apparently didn't matter what kind of food you ate in this world as long as the hunger bar in the character menu was filled. She typically preferred to use that innkeeper's rock candy as her source of food for most occasions. It was easy to make and usually he was usually preoccupied with small arguments with his wife (?) to make anything else. "Apparently some of the scouting reports say that Stonehenge is supposed to be near the town, so why don't we explore that area?"[attr="class","notesbg"]

Grimacing, Fernweh picked himself up before sitting cross-legged on the ground, tail flicking back and forth slightly with the clear marks of a well hidden scowl across his face. He had seen this coming. Ever since he had agreed to come along for the quest he had seen this coming. Still though, he had to give him credit, Hiro managed to do little more than scrape him dragging him out of the woods. Sighing, the fox-tail began to knock the dust off of himself as he listened to Hiro debrief them.
Listening to the two of them talk through to completion, Fernweh shrugged. “Personally I don’t really mind if we pull a two day trek. I haven’t had a real chance to explore much of this area yet after all,” he mentioned before turning back to Hiro with a flat look on his face, “of course that is assuming I am not woken up in such a manner every time….” While the last bit was poking a bit to see if he got any sort of reaction, the rest was entirely true. Fernweh had always had an interest in places he hadn’t seen before the guild and even before he found himself trapped here in Elder Tale. The guild just happened to be a lucky find later on.
Leaning and tilting his head back far enough he almost fell, Fernweh looked up at the guild’s co-leader Midori. They had met maybe once or twice before, but had yet to really get a chance to talk to one another. Granted Fernweh was probably asleep a majority of the time that they could have. Regardless, he asked “Are those the things that were really popular during the festival a bit ago? I thought they were a special event item.” Sadly, while the Fox-Tail had heard about such treats he hadn’t had the chance to actually get any. Then again, saying he didn’t have a chance to grab some probably wasn’t the correct way to state it… More like he wasn’t in the correct mental state to grab some. Alcohol was in abundance that night after all.

Hiro's attention was piqued a bit at the reference of Stonehenge. He always found them a bit mysterious, but never actually had a chance to go seem them himself. It would be a good opportunity to see just how in-depth this game really is, and just what exactly this world had to offer. If the creators of this game really put so much thought into it that they'd have such a thing like Stonehenge, with significant detail, Hiro would need to rethink his opinion of the game afterwards. True, they were all trapped here, but if they could learn something about their country's past at the same time, it wouldn't be all for naught. The only problem is the obvious abundance of enemies that would probably be waiting for them there. But, Hiro was the strongest, and most tanky of the group, so all they'd need to do is cast their spells while Hiro tanks the damage. It's a common enough strategy, sure, but it was effective.
Hiro turned back around, and nodded to Midori. "Yeah, that sounds like a good place to check out. It's not super far from here, but it might turn into an overnight trip after all. Either way, it'd be good for us to go check it out, so I'm all for it." He nodded, and started to walk around, making it obvious that he was going to grab some provisions. He went to a few of the nearby stalls, and started picking up some ingredients, which they could use for food. Fruits and Vegetables were pretty much safe, and Hiro had a basic knowledge of cooking beef, so all that was left would be to grab some bread, and they could have burgers or something for dinner, if they wanted. He figured that they would have to deal with it, since that was all he could cook, really.
But, then he remembered that Midori had mentioned that she grabbed the recipe for those Pork Buns that her and Hiro had back during the New Year festival. He gulped as saliva had begun to pool up in his mouth at the thought of the food item, but he shook his head a bit to get the thought out of his head. He still remembered how it tasted the first time he had it, and that it put it into a food-related heaven, where he felt delicious ecstasy filling up his mouth. It was an occasion he'd probably never forget in this world, and it might be one of the most influential things that has happened to him in this world. He would probably never forget it, even after they all left this world. Sure, he'd probably have the same friends and such, and maybe even some closer bonds to those friends, but the food they shared would be a highlight, for sure.
He finally got the thought out of his mind, and walked towards the exit on the opposite side of the camp. He hoped that Midori and Fernweh were already there waiting for him, and that he wouldn't need to do any more waiting. But, he was the only one there. He didn't mind it, though, as he only grabbed some food. He didn't need to maintain his weapons or armor, just had to keep his fists ready for a fight. The other two eventually showed up, and he nodded to them. "Alright, let's get this started." He said, turning back around, and started to leave the camp. But, soon after, he stopped, and turned around to Midori. "Actually, you probably know where Stonehenge is from here, so you wanna take the lead?"

[attr="class","polaris"] [attr="class","girtab"] [attr="class","gif"] [attr="class","backgroundsinister"] [attr="class","stardust"] [attr="class","lockedroom"] [attr="class","murasak"] Pay the price of karma and let's go together. Now that their group had assembled, they had made a brief summary of what was necessary for their adventure. If the objective of the mission was to explore Stonehenge which, according to the map, was located just about a mile north of the city that the frontline was trying to capture, then they would have to take routes in a way where they wouldn't get caught up in fighting golem reinforcements. However, they were still lacking the proper materials to sustain their journey. The three agreed to meet up in a short while after obtaining their fair share of supplies. That said, if they were planning to stay outside of the campgrounds overnight, they would probably need some food to sustain themselves. Ever since it was discovered that food created by old-fashioned cooking retained their flavors, the types of foods available in market stalls were gradually getting better. In fact, there were hardly any stalls which sold interface-crafted food anymore, due to Adventurer protests. She hoped that all the merchant stalls in the area were compliant of this trend. While Touko had enough pork buns to last for most of a day, it wouldn't hurt to grab any extra food items. No one within their own party was a Chef, so they wouldn't be able to make any food other than basic sandwiches, most likely. She saw that Hiro was eyeing meat selections and vegetables, so she went over to buy a few loaves of bread and a single can of soup for each of them. "Well, the only thing is that no one's really sure on the best way to head to Stonehenge." she maneuvered through the interface and summoned the temporary Sarum map from her inventory. As stated before, the straight pathway to Stonehenge was a bit risky due to constant golem spawning. This was the reason why other Adventurers took a huge detour in order to reach the location. This was recorded on the map as the previous scouting parties had moved around a mountain and through a forest to reach the landmark. "The only route recorded so far was through a forest, and so it might be a little dangerous if we were to stay overnight. I know that there's a lot of monsters around here that are at our levels or higher, so it would be difficult for us to survive if they attack overnight." Not to mention, most of their equipment was still beginner-tier items. Hiro would have been the only one who would be able to deal significant damage due to Monks' passive barehanded fighting strength. "I think we might want to take a detour and take the mountainside route. Fernweh, you were a Scribe, correct? I think Scribes will be able to update this map so that at the very least, we have a record of alternate routes to give to the camp. So if it's fine with the two of you, we should try to climb the mountain and find any other possible routes."[attr="class","notesbg"]

Post by Fernweh on Mar 30, 2014 4:10:57 GMT
Fernweh trotted off in the opposite direction of his two companions as he made a mental list of things they’d need. If Midori has food covered, Hiro is probably picking up the last few bits of food which leaves me to get…~ his mind wondered for a moment in contemplation, Ah right, leaves me with drinks.~ Drinks weren’t too difficult to get after all, probably why he was left with it to be entirely honest. All he’d have to get was water… But then again…~ he noted, stopping in his tracks in front of a stall.
An alcohol stall seemed like something rather fitting for a small camp. People work, people eat, and people drink. It was the way of the world, even more so now than it had ever been previously. In a way it was almost as if the world had been shifted back to where pubs were a focal point of community. Shifting back and forth for a moment, the Fox-Tail weighed his options. Alcohol and water or water and something else…~ To be honest, Fernweh didn’t know the age of either of his compatriots. Are they old enough to drink? Did they even drink if they could? No idea.
Sighing, he decided to air on the side of safety rather than offend someone as he made his way to a stall two down. After a momentary browsing of their supplies, Fernweh settled on three bottles of water, a bottle of orange juice, and another of cranberry before heading out to peruse the other stalls.
Drinks, check. Now should I grab some extra quills, ink, and parchment…~ he contemplated as he opened his pack to store his purchases. Only two quills with matching ink wells and 5 basic pieces of parchment… Probably enough to make it through the trip all things considered. After all they’d be taking notes on spawns, movement patterns, and maybe alternative paths if he was to guess.
Noticing Hiro making a move to the edge of camp, Fernweh closed his bag and ran off to catch up. Catching the end of Midori’s conversation, the Fox-Tail slowed down and gave her a sly grin as he pulled out a quill from his bag and flicked it in the air before catching it. “Yeah, I have no problem with that. But if we are taking a forging a new pass through the mountains it may be tough on you guys. I mean all I have to do is use Castling and I can get around obstacles with ease. Might not be as simple for you guys.”

Hiro nodded after listening to his trusted co-leader's advice, as to where they should go in order to avoid a majority of the monsters along the way. Hiro agreed with the idea of taking an alternate route, as it would probably be the best way for the group to avoid trouble. This was especially useful, since Hiro was the only attacking class they had. Sure, Midori probably had an array of useful spells, and Fernweh's summons were probably a decent force to deal with as well, but Hiro was going to have to be the one in the front of them all, taking all the hits. This didn't bother him that much, but the fact that there could be monsters of, at most, level 20 out there, worried him significantly. He might be able to survive an onslaught of a large mob of his own level, but a large mob of 20's would be a different story. This is why he was significantly agreeing with the idea of taking a less populous route.
"Sure, sounds like a plan, guys." Hiro said, confirming that he was ready to go with whatever route they were hoping to go for. A mountainside route would be easy, especially since there was already a known path heading into the mountains. If it got them where they needed to go, he really didn't care how long it took. He had enough supplies to at least last them the evening, and he knew that the others probably had a bit of food as well. He knew that Fernweh brought drinks, and Midori had those Pork Buns still, from what she mentioned about having the recipe. It was good for him to have the two there with him, since they were both good friends of his. Especially Midori, who Hiro has known from Mabinogi a long time back. They had pretty much met as soon as they started playing, and friendships were forged almost immediately. Fernweh, Hiro knew less about, but knew the man meant well.
Hiro heard Fernweh's almost bragging right with having the ability to summon something to help him scale the mountains faster. Feeling like this guys was just being a bit of a dick, though not on purpose, Hiro smirked. He quickly wrapped an arm around Midori's shoulders, and gave Fernweh a large grin. "No problem. If push comes to shove, I'm sure Midori wouldn't mind getting a piggyback ride up a mountain!" Hiro laughed a bit, and immediately sent a message to Midori; the text of which reading "Sorry about that OTL." He removed his arm from around his friend, and started to look down the road towards the mountains, which they could see in the distance. Hiro started to walk towards them, his face turning slightly more serious. This would be the first official Guild Mission, despite being a man down. It was a majority of the members, so it counted, probably. He was still excited for it, and continued forward.
It wasn't a whole lot longer afterwards that they had exited the camp's visible range, and had entered the small forest towards the foot of the mountains. There was a very slightly beaten path, showing that either people or other forms of life had traveled it recently. This being the case, Hiro positioned himself in the front, and kept his guard up at all times. Hiro knew that these two had decent armor, at least, since he made them himself. Despite this, they both needed to be ready for a fight at a moment's notice, which he was also pretty sure they knew already. This world was dangerous, after all. But, these two knew how to handle themselves, and even better, he knew that Midori knew how to fight from the back lines, letting Hiro take a majority of the aggro from the monsters. A gift from their time together on Mabinogi, hopefully it would continue onward into this world, as well. Hiro let the few rays of sunlight grace his head and shoulders, as sunlight passed through the leaves every so often, while they made their way through the forest path.

[attr="class","polaris"] [attr="class","girtab"] [attr="class","gif"] [attr="class","backgroundsinister"] [attr="class","stardust"] [attr="class","lockedroom"] [attr="class","murasak"] Pay the price of karma and let's go together. She twitched at the sudden hand around the shoulder. Even in this world, she still retained her natural ticklishness from the real world. It was even greater than Narrator's ticklishness. Which probably was a decent amount, considering that Narrator had never actually encountered such a situation on a daily basis. Either way, in terms of movement, their party was generally well fit to traverse through the mountains. All three were cloth armor users and therefore wouldn't have as much trouble as, say, heavy armor wearers. They hadn't chosen to carry any other unnecessary equipment outside of their inventory, so item weight was not a problem. You just really had to love hammer space. But in terms of traversing the mountain, Fernweh mentioned something about Castling, which was supposed to be something that substituted a familiar with its master. Indentured servitude in this case? She remembered hearing something about it from Mana. In any case, Touko herself had the Blink skill while Hiro would no doubt have a couple of good mobility skills for being a monk. She really wondered which of them would actually make it all the way to the top of the mountain if that had been their plan instead. It was not very long afterward that she received the private message from Hiro apologizing over his idea. OTL. Well, if you attempted to physically OTL'd on this cliffside, you would almost certainly roll down the mountain. Of course, a piggyback ride means that if you trip, I'll be the one tumbling halfway down the mountain in the end. she typed in response to the private message and submitted it. It had taken a while, but they had reached the base of the mountain toward the Stonehenge area. There was also a forest area atop this mountain as well. Touko looked at the Sarum map and watched as it automatically updated to show a sketch of a small forested region within the mountain. The best pathway through this forest probably would have been upward at an angle. That would allow them to bypass as much of the forest as possible when working their way around the mountain. At the same time, it would theoretically give them a better view of the area despite the extra distance needed to walk back down the cliff. But she figured that she would need to check with the other two. "If we head up the cliff and past the forest, it's most likely that we'll encounter these Rock Parasites from the bestiary. On the other hand, if we go through the forest, there's no telling what we meet. Should we focus on trying to see what kinds of monsters we can hunt?"[attr="class","notesbg"]

Fernweh gave the monk a slight nod at his reasoning, if only to support the fact that he understood the other two would be fine getting up on their own. That meant that he would be allowed to pull his own weight as he wished as well, something he wouldn’t mind. Raising out his right hand and holding in parallel to the ground, Fernweh allowed an arc of magic to strike the ground creating an ember. “Summon- Salamander!” he mumbled in a commanding tone under his breath, causing a series of symbols and concentric circles to burn to life around the small ember core. A moment later he was rewarded with a glowing creature resembling something much more dangerous than what one normally thinks of when they hear salamander.
Tossing it a stick from the ground nearby, he turned back to his companions. “This is one of my two partners, Salamander. She’s pretty much completely offensive and is the basic fire elemental summon. If you guys want, I can just hop up to the top of the cliff really quick and get an idea of what’s around,” Fernweh explained before pausing for a moment and adding, “Oh and you’re both free to come as well too, I was just shooting out ideas.” The Fox-Tail was still a bit unsure of how to approach the two. They had invited him to the guild but the difference in their nature was pretty apparent. The other two seemed to be close, or at least fairly closer than he was to either of them. Either way, he was slightly more worried about offending them now that they were out of town. Huh, guess insecurity rises a bit when you have to worry about your own safety~ he noted with a sigh.
Something had caught his mind, albeit a second late, with what Midori had said. “Wait, I’ve never heard of Rock Parasites. Are they like Golem small fries?” he questioned, a mixture of joking sarcasm and actual inquisition. Fernweh had tried to venture through a lot of the area around the city but the camp was another thing entirely. He simply just hadn’t had enough time since arriving here to get much of an idea about the local monsters. “If their stone type though it may prove to be of some bother. They may have some natural debuffs for certain magics. Like… fire for instance,” he added, driving the point home. Fernweh would still fight, regardless of the poor standings in such a conflict, but he wanted to make it clear that they’d need to consider what they’d do in that situation before they reached it.

Hiro still felt a bit weird, after having wrapped an arm around the closest friend he has in this world. Her message in return still lingered, as well, damning him if the situation should arise that he need to actually carry her up a mountainside, and then fall. He'd have to make sure that he, at least, landed on a side that is opposite Midori, no matter how much damage he might take. That really didn't matter to him, since health regeneration was a thing. However, it was far from substantial regeneration, but even then, his health totals were pretty high, so he didn't really imagine taking a large sum of damage. This would be considering that fall damage wasn't dependent on a ratio of distance fallen to health lost. That would probably cause Hiro a bit of trouble, if a fall from say 30 feet equated out to 90% of his total health, since falling from 3 stories high can have the potential to not be fatal.
He wiped that whole self-conversation from his mind for now, and looked ahead at the road. It looked like they were coming to a fork in the road of sorts. The path they were on continued upwards, as it was at the base of the mountain, and the other path leading into the forest at the top of the mountain. So this brought about the question: Which route should they take? The mountain path would get them there quicker, probably, but have enemies that were recognized already. However, on the other hand, the forest path would certainly take longer, but may have unknown enemies on the way. It would still lead to Stonehenge, but would probably be the cause of making the entire trip a day-long trip. Since they were there to observe Stonehenge, perhaps taking the shorter route would benefit them more. And, maybe on the way back, they could check out the forest path, to gather extra information. This would serve to everyone's benefit in the end, so he figured he should make his opinion noted.
After the Summoner introduced his summon, Salamander, Hiro nodded to the man for a moment, before speaking. "It would probably serve to our benefit to head to Stonehenge as quickly as possible. So, I personally vote that we take the mountainous route on the way there. Stonehenge is our final objective here, after all, and I'd like to observe it sometime today, before setting up camp." Hiro began to move towards the mountain route, but looked back up at the forest at the top of the mountain. "We can go through there on the way back, since we'll probably have gathered enough information about Stonehenge by sometime tomorrow morning. Afterwards, we can explore up there, and we'll probably make it back to the camp by nightfall tomorrow." Hiro turned his head towards the road before them again, and started walking, letting his allies catch up to him. Hiro took a frontal position, as Midori had mentioned the possibility of those Rock Parasites. Best to have your tank in the front, should push come to shove.
After walking for about 10 more minutes, Hiro could finally see the Stonehenge site. The rocks and pillars of the ancient wonder stood tall, except for those that were already on the ground. Those lay there, as they should. Hiro smirked at the sight, but his expression turned stern very shortly after. There were a few Magicked Ruin Golems patrolling the grounds, but they were still pretty far away from the site. Hiro figured that they should probably get over there and examine the area thoroughly, while the golems weren't in the immediate vicinity of the stone formations. They were simply strolling about the place, and didn't seem to react to much of anything, as they probably were just programmed to observe the area, in case of players or People of the Land decided to come visit the site. Maybe an ancient guardians kind of thing? Whatever. It didn't matter all that much to him immediately, and he thought that he'd probably have to deal with it later on. Magicked Ruin Golems were tough, but with Midori and Fernweh backing him up, Hiro was almost certain he could take a few on. Continuing down the road, Hiro kept an eye on the golems.

[attr="class","polaris"] [attr="class","girtab"] [attr="class","gif"] [attr="class","backgroundsinister"] [attr="class","stardust"] [attr="class","lockedroom"] [attr="class","murasak"] Pay the price of karma and let's go together. Showy. Touko felt that most Summoners she'd encountered thus far liked to show off their summons whenever possible. She did have to admit that the Salamander looked fairly decent despite being only a Tier I summon, however. Her initial thoughts about the Summoner class's early summons was mostly limited to the small furball Carbuncles, amorphous Slimes, and sloppy dirt Golems. This was actually the first time she'd seen this type of summon. Supposedly there was also a Phantom and Skeleton summon as well, but perhaps the necromancer-type character wasn't quite as popular now that the game was actually real life. Either way, Fernweh gave a second inquiry regarding these Rock Parasites. Touko referenced the bestiary once again when answering his question. "Rock Parasites seem to be bugs that pretend to be rocks. Something more like a hermit crab that uses coral for camouflage." Typically in most RPGs, bug monsters tended to have a weakness to fire elemental attacks, but the bestiary showed otherwise. It would appear that their weakness is wind and their primary resistance is earth. "It looks like they have a good form of defense by lowering its body and using the rocks on its back as defense. I don't think any of us use wind-based skills so that's probably out."Regardless, they had decided to take this more mountainous region due to a more defined monster list and relative ease at detecting their final destination. So far, there were no monsters in sight, but she was able to make out a few distant figures of Magicked Ruin Golems in the distance. The bestiary said that these golems were natural spawns around this area and apparently did not count for the combat mission completion percentage. Of another particular note was the way in which the monster was described in the bestiary. 'Do not make loud noises when walking past them. Do not use magic spells when one is nearby. If magic is necessary, move away from a large group of golems to minimize danger.' Really, it read as though someone had accidentally performed such actions by accident and then subsequently got ganged up by mobs of some sort. But even if it wasn't going to happen now, it was going to happen sooner or later. Basically, these monsters were inherently aggressive, rather than any other lower level passive mobs at the earlier levels. "Maybe there are some clues on how to break that magical barrier surrounding the city that the frontline's trying to capture. It just seems odd and suspicious that a natural landmark's surrounded with a bunch of golems that react to mana sources."[attr="class","notesbg"]

Fernweh sighed as he listened to Midori describe what the little parasite things could do. What kind of rock thing is weak against wind?~ It was the natural counter to wind in a majority of games the Fox Tail had played before Elder Tale. Main reason, rock doesn’t move with wind. Or at least that was the reasoning behind it that made sense to him. Perhaps the Rock Parasite was actually more bug or animal based than stone?
Shrugging the thought off, he kept pace behind Hiro and Midori as they continued their trek towards the ruins. “On the topic of magic barriers, think that Stonehenge actually is a magic circle in and of itself? I mean, I remember magic power increased along with the complexity of the spell and that drawing it in a circle format stabilized it back from stories in our world…” Fernweh realized he was rambling a bit off topic, “But what I’m trying to say is what if Stonehenge is being used as the basic border of an extremely large magic circle? It would make it hard to break, not to mention those golems may be a natural occurrence there so it would be pretty secure on its own.”
The thought had crossed his mind when he remembered a scene from a show he had seen in high school. Basically a mage of sorts had turned the entire town into the magic circle, insuring that destroying it would prove extremely difficult. Though Fernweh couldn’t think of why it would pop into his head now, he didn’t even know if magic actually worked like that in this world... Sighing and crossing his arms behind his head, the summoner added, “Then again, who knows if the magic of this world works like that. God knows little makes sense since we ended up here.”

Hiro continued along, keeping his eyes on the golems before them. He left his friends to speculate, but didn't respond. Something was very wrong here. Golems weren't supposed to be out here, let alone this far from the front line. Perhaps this was important information? That some golems can actually be on the way to another area, or that they surround places of interest? Despite all this, Hiro could still see Stonehenge. That was their goal, after all. To examine Stonehenge, to see if it held any importance in the world. It might be useful, then again, it might not be. Hiro wasn't completely sure about it himself, since he didn't actually go visit Stonehenge before. All he knew about the place was that it was a highly visited point of interest back in the real world, and that it held no significance outside of being a potential Stone Circle kind of thing. And basically all that was, was just a means of communicating with God or some bologna like that. His skepticism wouldn't betray him on such a thing, as there had to be something very important about this.
At that moment, the nearby monsters suddenly despawned. The Magicked Ruin Golems were gone, without a trace. Hiro had to wonder if it was set on a timer, or if there was a large amount of people at the front line or something, and the game had to compensate the number of monsters in different areas. That made the most logical sense, of course, so Hiro went with it. The camp that they all came from was certainly quite busy, and it looked like a lot of people moved out from there, not too long after the trio did. It would all make sense, especially if some strong guild went out, and decided to go clear out the landscape. Hiro silently counted his lucky stars, and started to move towards the old stone site, hoping to find some kind of useful information about the area. After another few minutes of walking, Hiro found himself on the site, and started observing the stones as they stood.
They were definitely old, there was no doubting that. Having a sense of foreboding surround him, Hiro shivered at how quiet the plains had become. There wasn't any movement, save for some crunching of stones underneath his own feet, or the sound of the wind gently gracing the rocks, as well as his ears. Hiro looked out across the field, and saw a large number of players fighting golems and such, as if they were trying to push back some sort of wall. But, that probably best described their situation, since they had been trying to find out more and more about this wall-like interference. And the city in the distance... What was it? What could it have been? Was it even significant? He'd probably end up getting the answers to his questions soon enough, but for now, he just had to examine Stonehenge to see if it qualified as a useful place of information. That was, until, the ground started to shake and move.
The earth shook and quaked underneath his body, and he was eventually knocked off balance. The columns of stone started to fall to the ground, and Hiro was stuck in the middle of the ring. He forced himself up, and quickly used Wyvern Kick to get him up into the air, and away from the stones. He landed a short distance away, but the shaking knocked him over again. Landing on his back, he propped himself up, as the ground ceased to shake. "What the hell is happening!?!" Hiro called out. He saw all the stones collapse onto the ground, and settled soon enough. Hiro looked as the site was completely destroyed, and started to wonder if the golems could tell that the seismic activity were to be happening soon enough. Hiro wondered this for a moment, but then the stones started to levitate, and the ground below started to open. Hiro's eyes widened, as it looked like joints had started to form on the stones themselves.
The stones started to place themselves around in a pattern that matched the Magi-tech devices, and it started to stand on its own. The headpiece stone started to glow green, and it flashed for a moment, before the monstrosity took a battle stance. Hiro was left shaking and breathless, as a health bar appeared above the beast, above which saying [Ancient Magi-tech Golem, Stonehenge]. It read as a Mechanical/Magi-tech/Rock enemy, which basically meant that a Monk was pretty much useless. But, Hiro couldn't think of much more, when he noticed the level of the monster, and classification. [Field Boss, Level 30] it read. "Shit, Stonehenge is a boss!?!" Hiro shouted, before being forcefully knocked to the side with a powerful slab of rock. Hiro went flying, at least 40 feet, before tumbling and rolling another 20 feet, finally coming to a rest. Taking a quick look at his health bar, he noticed that it immediately dropped to 70%. Hiro gasped, eyes widening again, and shouted to his allies. "Run!!" Stonehenge would kill them instantly, if they didn't get out now. Hiro looked towards the mountain range, got up, and started running right to it.

[attr="class","polaris"] [attr="class","girtab"] [attr="class","gif"] [attr="class","backgroundsinister"] [attr="class","stardust"] [attr="class","lockedroom"] [attr="class","murasak"] Pay the price of karma and let's go together. The mere mention of the monument was enough to tell them that they had found one of the keys to claiming Sarum. Really, if you wanted a reason why Stonehenge was a suspicious thing to examine in this world, there's a simple answer for it. It's freaking Stonehenge. Naturally if it was in any kind of fantasy game, it was going to be fairly significant sometime in the story. Chekhov's Monument. No game designer was going to put in a notable monument only for it to be ignored in context. Except for maybe an underpowered wonder in a Civilization game. Like Artist's Guild for Blood. But that's not an MMO. Anyway, as soon as the nearby golems just simply up and despawned, leaving nothing else within sight, she had two thoughts in mind. One, this was a safe area and monsters would not be able to enter this section. Two, some boss was probably going to appear. Typically bosses were limited to dungeons though, so there was a slightly lower chance of that occurrence. Of course, a lower chance didn't mean that it was downright impossible. There was the chance that a field boss would be the culprit, but field bosses usually had a set spawn timer and would probably not pop up out of nowhere. Still, if you think heading to the monument was going to be simple, you probably didn't play enough RPGs. If this were a single-player RPG, in fact, there would probably be a save point right here just to show that a boss fight was up ahead. Either something bad was going to appear out of nowhere or some noteworthy storyline character was going to get there before you and take whatever it was that you came here for. Sometimes after beating you up in a rigged boss fight. Hiro went forward and immediately a large scale local earthquake shook the area. Bingo. Never doubt the instincts of a veteran RPG player in situations like this. But now every time they visit something that looks oddly like a landmark, they'll have second thoughts. Even the famous stones were beginning to fall, striking up a lot of dust over the area. Following the powerful crashing, there was a brief moment when everything became silent. And then the world roared back to life as a blue light enveloped a number of rocks from the monument and rose to a size of several meters. The rocks formed the creature's basic skeleton as mana began to materialize over its body. Then, the ground underneath the former Stonehenge cracked as numerous bars of metal rose up to create an mechanical arm's frame. Finally, as a finishing touch, the remaining mana from the atmosphere collected together and caused the arm to glow a blue light. Most definitely a boss. She saw the golden text and fancy insignia appear beside its name, but it was a bit different from what she'd heard about field bosses. Storyline bosses, world bosses? They were going to need an ace party for this. But her attention was mostly fixed upon that arm. It was much unlike anything she'd seen in this world so far. It was quite intriquing. She definitely knew Hiro wanted a piece of that arm and she wanted a piece of its recipe. Suddenly, her awe was broken as the monster knocked Hiro away like a bowling pin. The Monk who was several levels above her had taken a great deal of damage from that attack and he shouted for the other two to run. At that same moment, Hiro himself was retreating, so she figured that maybe it could have been best to cover his escape? Midori pointed her palm toward a fairly sizable rock and levitated it using Psychic Conductor. Then, she tossed the rock like a catapult toward the gigantic stone titan. At that moment, the monster used the mechanical arm to grasp the large rock and crush it like a soft snowball. Yup, out of their league. Way out. The monster now turned its attention to her, its blue-glowing sigils facing her direction. "Uh. Bye." Her body immediately disappeared at that moment and reappeared several feet away, characteristic of the Sorcerer's Blink spell, as she turned tail and ran. Better to run and live than say that you got beaten by some tourist monument that foreigners seemed to enjoy for some reason, right? [attr="class","notesbg"]

Fernweh stopped dead in his tracks the moment the earth beneath him started to shift. Shit, shit, SHIT!~ The earth shaking was clearly not a good sign. Ever. The Fox Tail shifted his weight and widened his stance to ensure he wouldn’t stumble as the various stones composing Stonehenge plummeted to the ground. Had they activated a trap? No, why would they destroy the site without waiting for them to even enter it? Maybe they had something to hide, something big that would explain the barrier…
As the last pillar fell to the ground Fernweh noticed a small flash of light through the dust near the center before a loud groan emanated from its core, as though the party had fallen into the bowels of some terrible machine. He found himself unable to move this time, not by choice but by awe. What the hell had they awoken?
The being let out a loud bellow, a mixture of rock slamming into rock and metal scratching metal, before an arm swung out from the depths of the cloud, knocking Hiro back across the clearing. “Wait, the entire Stonehenge is a neeping boss!? We neeped up man, we seriously neeped up!” the summoner shouted in panic, quickly summoning his golem to the side of his salamander. Fernweh had to bite his tongue. They would be flies to it that much was certain, but every second they gained would be a second the party would remain alive. “Protect us guys, I’ll make it up to you!”
Turning around Fernweh bolted from the clearing and into the woods and the mountain. With any luck, though it was clear how little they had at the moment, the other two would have used the extra seconds as well. Without any luck? Well, he could only hope that the aggro they had wouldn’t pull Stonehenge after them.

Hiro was bolting directly to the mountain range nearby them. He took a look to see that his allies were following his motion, in running away from the beast. Hiro could see that Fernweh was almost already to the mountainside once again, and that Midori wasn't that far behind. Hiro turned around to look at the golem, only to see it charging right after him. Hiro's eyes widened greatly, as he attempted to pick up the pace. But, he wasn't fast enough. The golem slammed its boulder fist right into him, causing him to go flying once more, but even further than before. The golem was hoping to hit Hiro up against the mountainside, to kill him. But, Hiro had another plan. Hiro angled himself, barely, to a perpendicular angle to the cliff, and began to use Wyvern Kick. Hiro was a good distance away from the golem, but the rebound from the skill would propel him into the golem, and he'd be able to do, at least, some damage. Hiro planted his foot on the cliff, and launched himself at the golem. But, instead of hitting the golem, Hiro found it had disappeared, with a wall-like phase where it was, and passed right through it.
Hiro managed to catch himself from contacting with the ground heavily, by activating Aura Kick, landing safely. He had to take a few large steps to get himself to a stop, and started to walk back to the mountain, beginning a slight jog on the way. Hiro took a quick look at his health, seeing that there was only about 35% remaining. Hiro gave a sigh of relief, looking back to the mountains where his allies were. He finally reached them, noticing that he was the only one with HP missing. It was probably time to take a break for a while. Hiro took a seat nearby, behind a few trees, and stared over at the site where Stonehenge was. If it was a field boss, it only spawned once or twice in a day, so the time in between its active time, or times, would probably give them a good opportunity to explore and perhaps do some digging. Hiro felt that he would need to relay the sentiment, so he took a moment to catch his breath. "Alright, I guess that the Stonehenge golem will probably only spawn maybe once a day. Perhaps the site will respawn in a little while, so we can explore then. Sound good?" Hiro assumed that they agreed, and just waited it out.
It took a while of waiting, but it wasn't fruitless. Hiro had decided to do some exploration on the other side of the mountainside, only to see much more plains in the distance. However, on that side was the ocean, or what appeared to be. There was, of course, a phase which distorted the far-off distance. Despite that, Hiro could figure out that it was most certainly the ocean, due to the shimmering water graphics, as well as the blue on the ground. He knew his geography, and the world was round. There was no way that the sky would be on the ground. So, by process of elimination, that was the ocean. Hiro stopped there, and went back to the small area that the trio had first set up in, after escaping the Stonehenge golem. They had actually set up camp there, for the evening, since they imagined that they'd be there for the night. There were two tents, one for Midori, and the other for Hiro and Fernweh. Had to make sure the female was most comfortable, right?
Hiro had set up a small station where he could watch the clearing from the safety of the small forested clearing. Sure, there might be enemies during the night, but Hiro figured that they'd all see or hear the monsters as they came up. Also, since Fernweh was a summoner, there was the chance that he could just keep a summon active in the evening, while they slept, to act as a guard. Since summons could be used while the summoner was off doing other things, Hiro imagined that it'd be possible for the summon to be active while the owner slept. To ensure maximum security, however, Hiro offered to take first watch. While he thought about this, Hiro saw the Stonehenge site reform, and the golem sentinels had appeared a great distance away from the monument. Hiro jumped up just a bit, and looked over to Midori and Fernweh. "Let's go, it's up." He said, shortly, before picking himself up, and started walking through the meadows once again. Since the golems were far off, he imagined that their radius of detection wouldn't be effective yet. They had a little while to explore the site, and Hiro's health was almost back to full once again. He was ready to fight, if need be.

[attr="class","polaris"] [attr="class","girtab"] [attr="class","gif"] [attr="class","backgroundsinister"] [attr="class","stardust"] [attr="class","lockedroom"] [attr="class","murasak"] Pay the price of karma and let's go together. No shame in escaping! In fact, it was probably one of the things that the young strategist was good at. After all, she had always imagined that if a video game were to turn into real life, her main strategy in fighting would have been to use the most dishonorable tricks she could. Or at least whenever they were up against the AI. The system was basically there to be exploited if it became reality. After all, what would you think people would do if they were able to find a way to hack real life and make themselves super rich? You wouldn't just use it for pocket change, you'd exploit it as far as possible without being caught. Such is human nature, really. Regardless, she rather favored tactics that were hit-and-run in nature, often resulting in good results while limiting any losses. You would be safe from a distance while your foe was struggling to reach you, much less attack you back. It was for this reason that she was quite fond of metagaming to exploit weaknesses in the enemy strategy for her own advantage. Let's consider her MMO record. Starting off as a mage character that possessed the ability to freeze monsters in place, allowing her to do things like ice cream while multitasking? Check. Playing an alchemist who was able to push away a threat a sizable distance before it was able to fight back? Check. Playing as a bard that could heal her own wounds faster than the enemy can even do damage? Check. The only anomaly was her few roles playing as a tank, since her and Hiro's online gaming group was terrible with people wanting to go tank. The main plan was simply getting away from the gigantic colossus. From there, a few possibilities would arise. One, the monster would eventually give up on chasing them and then return to its spawn point in wait of any other foolish adventurers who happened to stumble along the area. She would then have to wonder whether the monster could be camped or not by determining if the maximum distance for it to return to the spawn point was a set distance. There were also traditional monster camping protection measurements such as a monster recovering all their HP once luring far enough away from its original position that she would need to check. Possibility number two, the monster could simply despawn, whether it was due to a certain time limit or a direct result for having been led away from its original position. In the case of Stonehenge, she very likely doubted that it would have stayed despawned forever. But if it did, go them. Apocrypha just stole a national monument and attained Carmen Sandiego status. There was probably the issue of waiting to see how long it would take before the monster would attack them again, if it turned out to be a traditional field boss. Field bosses usually had a tendency of spawning once every so often, such as a day or week. Again, she figured that it would probably be a short time for Stonehenge the monument to reappear, but a slightly longer time for Stonehenge the monster to attack them. Number three, Stonehenge would catch up to them and beat them up. Oh well. Cue sad French Horns playing in the background. Luckily it turned out to be the second option, as the gigantic rock titan had disappeared before Hiro was able to land a blow on the monster. She had a very strong urge to spam him with messages denouncing him for being so reckless against a field boss they knew nothing about, but resisted the urge. Instead, she had given him an intense stare of disapproval. Hopefully he would get the idea. Nevertheless, a while would have passed before the monument was reformed and by then, it was already close to nighttime. The Stonehenge monument had reformed, along with a number of scattered golem sentinels. She supposed that the reappearance of the golem sentinels meant that the monument wasn't going to return to life and attack them again. However, they needed to be careful. Touko did notice that something was off regarding how the golems and Stonehenge were related, however. "Perhaps I'm just thinking out loud, but if the golems should despawn at the time that Stonehenge is active, what effect would this have on the golems at the frontline?" She did notice that despite the claims that the golem spawns were too fast and difficult for the front line to move very far, it was true that they did gain a fair amount of distance. Enough distance that the main frontline camp had expanded beyond the position that they had met together earlier that day. "If Stonehenge becomes more active at a certain time of day while the other golems become less active, maybe it's possible that the frontline should aim to advance as quickly as possible during the short period where it's spawned." But would Stonehenge have a constant spawn and despawn time? it wasn't even a minute that the giant golem had attacked them before it immediately vanished in thin air. Would this mean that if there were enough strong players to fight against the monster, then it would buy the frontline enough time to advance? [attr="class","notesbg"]
