[attr="class","ws"] [attr="class","h"]PARN [attr="class","fc"] [attr="class","bi"]REAL NAME: Kenta Sakamoto [attr="class","bi2"]REAL GENDER: Male [attr="class","bi2"]GENDER: Male [attr="class","bi2"]AGE: 24 years [attr="class","bi2"]SEXUALITY: Heterosexual [attr="class","bi2"]FACE-CLAIM: Parn, Record of Lodoss War [attr="class","bi2"]PLAYED BY: ucalto [attr="class","h2"]Appearance [attr="class","b"] Inside the game, Parn appears to be young adult male of about five foot ten inches in height and fair-to-brown skin. Since he spends most of his time in armor, this fosters an illusion that Parn is largely built so typical of guardians. In fact, Parn’s body looks more like a chiseled basket ball player’s – lean in most places, but hardened with sufficient muscle to produce controlled power and precise movement. This gives the impression as someone taller for a Wolf Hair, and lean for a Guardian, yet possess an uncanny grace and strength to be an impressive one. Parn likes to keep his brown hair short but slightly wave, complimenting his golden-brown eyes. The Guardian prefers to wear golden-brown plate armor when adventuring, wielding a longsword on his right hand and a great shield guarding his left. While not adventuring, one can see Parn usually wearing comfortable green tunics over brown pants and boots. For formal occasions, Parn wears a blue tunic adorned with a eight pointed silver star, with black formal cape. He carries his sword – polished to a glistening shine - with him while in his formal wear, and maintains a militarily straightforward stance in his movements. [attr="class","h3"]Personality [attr="class","b"] Parn mirrors much of how Kenta is in real life. As an only child, Kenta tended to be introverted and quiet, more at ease at being alone and doing this by himself. He was also quite adventurous, enjoying solitary bike trips in the countryside and mountains. Kenta chose to be a Guardian so that he could fend for himself during the many moments that he would be alone in the game world – pragmatically he understood that being a tank give him the best survivability, at least in the early levels of the game. While the silent type, Kenta was also very observant, and had the habit of carefully documenting his travels and experiences in journals, a habit he continues now as he travels the mysterious world of Elder Tale. The circumstance of his parents’ occupations (his late father was a lawyer, his mother was an accountant and where both very much involved in civic affairs and programs) molded Kenta’s upbringing as well, letting him inherit a helpful and charitable personality, espousing a sense of compassion for those in need, as well as sense of justice tempered by the need for mercy. An avid fan of the fantasy genre of books, as well as a good tabletop and video game RPG player, Kenta understood how typical defender classed PC would act, and was excited to play one following a code of chivalry typical of what RPG paladins should play – a code of honor that one must follow and apply, dependent of the situation faced. Kenta aspired to play as Parn a Guardian that his party-mates can depend upon – first to stand in the front of the battle line and hold it, keeping friends and allies safe from harm, and last to leave the field. Other traits the Kenta inherited from his parents include his pragmatic approach to life, his loyalty to friends that earn his respect and trust, as well as that ever-present smile in his face, which he shows to calm those around him. Kenta tends to sense how others are feeling through their shown emotions rather than try to psycho-analyze them. Kenta found this a valuable trait when acting as Parn, since the Guardian needed to make decisions based on quick observations, especially in combat. While a decent tactician, Parn avoided over-thinking his actions, leaving chess moves three steps ahead to other party tacticians except in extreme cases. When the need to take charge comes to Parn, however, he falls back to the lessons he learned being a basketball player. Kenta learned a lot of useful things playing the point guard position in basketball. Being the playmaker, Kenta thrived not being the designated scorer, but leading teammates to positions to play better, drawing opposing defenders by playing as the decoy and assisting (passing) them the ball for open shots at the basket. Being the anchor of the front line, Parn the Guardian used Kenta’s basketball experience to maximize the strengths of party-mates by drawing the attention of enemies, “assisting” party mates in making unobstructed counterattacks. Parn also has the will to make the “clutch play” in battles – the will to take charge and responsibility for such action that may make or break a battle plan, for a chance for victory. These things are needed for Guardians to be effective, and important for survival in Elder Tale’s world. [attr="class","h3"]History [attr="class","b”] Kenta had a very normal childhood as much as an only child could have. His family lived in a small, countryside city in South Honshu, which formed into the boy his love for travel and adventure, mostly on his own. He was an introverted boy for most of his early school years, known to be the friendly sort when with kids of his own age, but not sociable enough to hang around with a constant circle of friends. This changed during middle school, after he joined his school’s basketball club. He learned to appreciate the camaraderie with his teammates, and the value of teamwork and trust, as well as opening up socially. Kenta continued this through his high school years, even developing young romances with girls he came to know and admire (a great leap for the usually shy Kenta), but still kept a part of himself needing to be alone and wander the world around for adventure. This need for privacy with the lust for adventure was what attracted Kenta into role-playing games. He started young, reading books of table-top RPGs that he played, eventually discovering solitaire RPG video games and MMORPGs. Elder Tale was one of the first MMORPGs Kenta really enjoyed, and had a very good experience as a Samurai in the Japanese server. Kenta continued playing all the way through high school, and eventually into college. Entering a national university on a basketball scholarship, Kenta had stopped playing Elder Tale with need to concentrate on his studies (he was taking an English Communication Course) as well as keeping fit for his varsity team commitment. He was reasonably successful in his athletic career, enough to be invited to an amateur basketball competition in Britain with his team. During a lull in the tournament, he happened upon the British server of Elder Tale one evening browsing the Web. With a chuckle Kenta decided to create a new player just for fun, deciding on a paladin-like Wolf Hair Guardian, which he named Parn, patterned on a namesake character he saw from a very old anime when he was younger. Kenta didn’t even play Parn much, except to run around the home city of the server (Kenta wasn’t sure if it was named “London” like the British capital), and doing some odd level 1 quests. After just playing for an hour, Kenta became bored and decided to log out of the game for the night. He did notice that a major update of the game was available for download, and that the game’s webpage indicated that the update would take effect at midnight that evening. Kenta decided to update the game, before heading to bed and sleep, getting ready for tomorrow’s competition and schedule game. Until he woke up in a different game, that is. Different, but all so familiar as well. So now Kenta is Parn, a young Guardian trapped in a game world that he knew yet was very mysterious, and definitely dangerous. After a rush of panic, finding out that he couldn’t log out, Parn noticed that he wasn’t alone. Hundreds of other player characters inhabited this fantastic version of London he found himself in, and all of them shared Parn’s look of bewilderment and fear. “At least I’m not alone,” Parn whispered, as he shouldered his sword and shield and walked silently in the moss-covered streets of the strange city, determined to know the secrets of this world and find his way home. This causes movement speed away from the Guardian to lower the farther away a user is. As a result, some might attempt to make a run for it by either dashing or jumping. These two actions trigger the second part of this skill, which delivers a heavy counter to punish a retreating foe. It effectively serves as a way to maintain the enemy's attention on the Guardian. [attr="class","skill"]Holy Banishment: Description The Exorcist covers their palm in a glowing light and points at a target, releasing a semi-transparent laser forward. If the target is an Undead or Spirit monster, or if they are weak to abilities of the Light element, then this skill knocks them back and deals light damage.
