The campsite: Hiro was more than used to this site than being back in London now. He had spent a large sum of time here, making discoveries and scouting areas. But something he hadn't done in quite some time: Fight something. It had been forever since his mission was just to go out and kill something! And what better thing to kill than a Sentinel? Yeah, that thing that was level 20, had elite status, and Hiro could easily kill himself. This golem, for whatever reason, had no resistances to Physical attacks, unlike its other rock counterparts. So, being a Monk, Hiro could probably take it down himself. But, it is required that he go with another person. Who else better to go with than a guy he literally met just a few days before? Yep! Hiro planned this out completely! And if you can't tell, Hiro is being sarcastic to himself! Yay! Woo! Alright! God, I'm such a scrub. Hiro thought to himself, slapping his forehead. He shook it from his mind, and just waited for Oxford to show up.
It was true that Hiro and Oxford had met when they had fought Maledict Mayahuel, along with a few other people who are of no relevance to this quest. Either way, though, Hiro just waited nearby for the guardian to show up. Hiro didn't mind waiting all that much, since he was used to waiting for others by this point. It seemed to be a thing, really. Hiro would always be the first to arrive, and he would need to wait for a little while. He would always find some place to sit down, or lay down, and eventually fall asleep, waiting for people to show up. And, since the owner of Hirosame the player decided that it would be this way, Hiro sat down next to a tree nearby the camp, and closed his eyes. Hiro went to sleep, of course, as per the usual for him being the first one there. If there's anything that came out of this that was deemed good, it would probably be the amount of sleep that Hiro would have gotten from this sleeping. He sighed in his sleep, letting his body relax, and his mind went to happy dreamy fun-time land, until Oxford strolled in and would awaken Hiro from his peaceful slumber. Yeah, that was routine, too. He was used to people waking him up, but the person who did so wouldn't always be the same. Oh well, it would happen eventually anyways.

It had only been a day since the great battle of the Maledict Mayahuel, the memories not so fresh in his mind, as he had been trying to comprehend all that had happened.
The only thing he remembered was that the monk, Hirosame, had invited Oxford on a journey to Sarum to eliminate one of the Golem Sentinels. Why he accepted, he had no idea.
(I guess I just like fighting stuff.)
It was pretty odd, the two got along well enough that Oxford didn't even notice his weird social anxieties when talking to him. The guy made him feel comfortable, treating him like a friend instead of just some other Adventurer that he happened to get stuck with.
Ever since he'd level up, Oxford had been wanting to fight more and more stuff, the thrill of battle awakening some part of him that had laid dormant in him before. It made him feel...alive, to use a cliche line to help describe the point in a man's life when undergoing an epiphany.
(Now I'll get a chance to see how well this plate armor differs from the chain mail.)
He adjusted his chestplate, still trying to get used to the extra weight that the chain mail did not burden him with from fights before. The familiar mountains of Sarum appeared ahead of him, the white tents and wooden stalls showing signs of bustling.
He arrived at the camp site, looking for a mop of unruly dark-red hair to pinpoint where the Monk would be. With the people milling about, it made it hard to keep a look-out for unique individual.
Not making any sign of where he could be, Oxford walked over to the tree, leaning against it as he watched the other Adventurers walk around, some forming parties, others asking Landers for information.
As he scanned the crowd, he thought he heard a soft noise, like a bug buzzing around the vicinity. But it was lower in tone, almost like a snore, coming from the other side of the tree. Oxford peered around, finding the monk slumped against the tree.
(Well, I'll be damned. He was under my nose this entire time.)
He looked peaceful, almost as if he were deep in dreaming. To confirm this, he poked the lad in the cheek. No reaction.
Some flat rocks lied on the ground not too far from the tree, a mischievious grin spreading across the bespectacled Guardian's face as he grabbed a handful of them, stacking them one on top of the other while the Monk snoozed.
His high score was somewhere around 31 when the Monk finally woke up. |

The monk was having a rather strange dream, involving the party from yesterday's mission. He found himself in the fields once again, and the other members of the party were there, too. He was sleeping in his usual spot, and woke to find that the samurai he had crafted for, Saeko, was sleeping next to him. The swordswoman was curled up next to Hiro, as if they had been together or something. As soon as Hiro woke up, she had also begun to stir, and immediately proceeded to pull the weapon from her sheath. Hiro rolled to the side, and flipped himself over onto his feet, and barely dodged the slash from the female samurai, who still looked very sleepy. She stood, and started to chase him down with the weapon in her hands, slashing from side to side, top to bottom, and all diagonals that there were. Hiro viewed the other members of the party started to fight Mayahuel, just as Hiro leaped up to avoid the samurai's attacks. Once he looked back though, Hiro noticed that Saeko's blade was just about to come into contact with his face, which is about when he woke up.
Hiro awoke softly, and looked around, only to see a giant pile of rocks being stacked up nearby him. Just a short distance away was the guardian he was waiting for, Oxford. Now, why was this guy building up a fort of stones, Hiro wondered? It didn't really matter all that much to the Monk in any case, so he just got up slowly, making enough of a racket to warn the guardian of his being alive. Hiro brushed himself off, as the grass had gotten all over his deep blue dress shirt. Hiro could only imagine that he turned a bit while he was sleeping, and proceeded to sweep more grass off his black dress pants. He stretched a bit, before looking to address the guardian. Hiro only hoped that the guardian would stop with his rock-building before he began to talk. It looked like he was just about done, so Hiro waited. After giving it another half a minute, Hiro nodded to the guardian, and greeted him, as he normally would with anyone he was about to go on a quest with.
"How's it goin', Ox?" Hiro said, putting a hand on his side, and leaning to the other. "Good to see ya." He gave a smile to the man, also a part of his usual greeting. Hiro looked over to the camp, and then out to the field. "I assume you know why we're here today, but it wouldn't hurt to recap, I suppose. Today's mission is a combat mission, something that I haven't done of my own volition for a while. We only need to kill a level 20 Elite monster in the area. However, it is usually surrounding by two or three Magicked Ruin Golems, so we'll need to take care of those first. The Elite itself isn't resistance to physical attacks, so whenever we're good to go, we should be able to knock it down easily. Sound good?" Hiro asked, turning back to the man. It was a rather straightforward mission, of course, as most combat quests were. Which is a reason why Hiro loved them so much. Short, sweet, to the point, and filled with fighting. What more could Hiro want?
Of course, Hiro wanted to get out there as soon as possible, but they'd probably need some provisions. "Alright, before we go, why don't we stop into the camp and pick up some stuff we may need? Once we're all done grabbing what we need, let's meet at the gateway to the fields, and from there it'll probably be a mad dash to find the monsters." Hiro started to walk away, and gave Oxford a small wave, before heading into the camp site. Hiro only really needed to grab some food and some water to keep him hydrated and healthy. So, he just grabbed some fresh food, had a bit before he would go, and put the rest inside a pack of some sort. He used the Apocrypha Satchel that he had in his inventory to hold the items he would be using, to keep everything in one place. Once he gathered the stuff he needed, Hiro walked over to the exit of the camp, and not very long afterwards, Oxford showed up. Hiro nodded to the man, and asked to the guardian, "Ready to go?"

"Sir, it's been minutes and the beast hasn't moved."
"Well, keep an eye on it, corporal! We don't need to lose anymore men because you got distracted!"
"Yessir!"
A sound was heard behind the stone fort, the monster beginning to show signs of movement.
"Sir! The creature has begun to rise!"
"Quick! Man the cannons!"
"But sir! We sold them to ensure our brandy supply didn't go out!"
"Remind me to demote the officer who ordered that, and then remind me to give him a commendation for being so thoughtful!"
At this point, a scout burst into the office.
"Bad news, General! The creature has awoken and is now moving to our position!"
A bead of sweat ran down the General's face, his brow focused in concentration.
"Sir! Your orders?"
"...Brace yourselves. We should wait and see what this behemoth does next..."
The beast walked towards the encampment, its steps echoing as it easily crossed the distance.
"How's it goin', Ox?"
Oxford stopped the weird scene playing out in his head when he heard Hiro talking to him, hoping he didn't hear him muttering his strange 'Attack on Sarum' dialogue. He looked up from his crouched position and saw the monk, giving a wave when he greeted him.
"Good to see you, too."
The auburn-haired adventurer then began to brief Oxford on what their main objective was for today, almost as if he some sort of agent getting his mission requirements. All he was missing was a mode of transportation and some sort of busty woman who couldn't keep her hands off of him.
(Heh, 'this message will self destruct at the end of the briefing.')
"Yep, sounds good."
He hadn't heard the part about Magicked Ruin Golems before, so he pulled out his notebook and made a note of that, just in case he was pulled into another Sentinel fight at a later time. The knowledge would come in handy if future party members weren't privy to this information.
(NOTE: It's possible for Golem Sentinels to be accompanied by golem groupies.)
Hiro gave a wave before diving into the ocean of Adventurers, Oxford following him to make sure he didn't lose sight of him. He noticed that the monk was purchasing some food items, causing Oxford to realize that he hadn't eaten anything in the past couple of minutes, so he went and bought lunch and a little bit of early dinner as well.
He tucked most of it away, munching on a little as he checked another stall, picking up a couple health and mana items, since a healer wouldn't be available to help them out if things turned ugly.
He turned around, slightly panicking when he lost track of his combat companion, but luckily, Oxford was able to spot him much more easily. He was standing at the gate's exit, popping the last bit of his snack as he arrived.
"Ready to go?"
"Almost, just one more thing."
He waved his hand, pulling up his menu and accessed the Friends List option, sending Hiro a Friend Request. If he didn't know the adventurer before hand, he wouldn't have bothered. But Hiro seemed like a chill guy, letting Oxford mellow out and not feel so awkward.
"This way, it's easier to keep track of each other's positions if things go bad."
He pulled out a sandwich, snacking on it quickly before they left. It's never a good idea to go questing on an empty stomach. A person's brain needed glucose to operate, so Oxford wanted to make sure he had enough to make the split-second decisions in the battles ahead. |

Hiro was a bit surprised to see a Friend List notification all of a sudden. He felt a bit strange for a moment, but still, it felt good. Hiro quickly accepted the request, and gave the guardian a nod, and a smile. He had a few friends already there, but it didn't hurt to have some more. Hiro looked out to the field, and watched the golems as they moved. They seemed to go about their business, and only a few adventurers were out there, fighting anything. It looked like now was probably the best time to move, so Hiro looked over to Ox for a moment, and nodded. "We should get moving now, then. The enemies aren't as active right now." Hiro was about to break out into a run, but decided that it might be best to just walk instead, so as to avoid any aggro that might come their way. So, with that having been decided, he started moving out into the field, hopefully with Ox right behind him. The enemy that they were going to fight wasn't all that far away, so it wouldn't take them super long to get there.
Along the way, Hiro thought that he'd try and spark a conversation with Ox, since they haven't had a real chance to talk much yet. And, since Oxford had sent him a friend request, he might as well get to know the guy. They had a bit of time before they got there, so it might do him some good to talk a bit. The enemy wouldn't be super tough, anyways. The only real problems would be their numbers, as there would be at least 3 of them, with Hiro and Oxford being their only opposition. So Hiro turned his head to the side, and began to talk to Oxford. "So, this enemy will probably be nothing like Mayahuel, as obvious as that is. That being the case, how do you think things went yesterday with that boss?" Hiro was always open to others' opinions on subjects. He turned back ahead and started with his own opinion. "The boss seemed like it'd be a challenge to me, but the five of us seemed to work pretty well together, except for a few mishaps here or there. How about you?" Hiro waited patiently for Ox's reply, as they slowly made their way to the place of battle, which was designated on their Heads-Up Display as being a kilometer out from the camp. It'd be a bit of a walk, but they might as well have some fun with it.
((OOC: Gonna keep posts kinda short for a little while, so Hiro and Ox can talk a bit. I imagine that every post from both of us will get us 1/3rd of the way there, if you're okay with that.))

Oxford almost felt overjoyed when Hiro accepted his friend request, his Friends List now sporting a new, shiny name next to the lone one in his list.
(Making friends isn't so hard after all.)
As he stood there beaming over the newest addition, he realized that Hiro was already walking, so the Guardian did his best to catch up. It was pretty easy since Hiro decided to walk.
The walk was slow, but it was nice. Going at the slower pace gave Oxford time to admire the scenery. Mountains rose up all around them, towering over them like large, silent guardians of the fields.
As they made the long trek, Hiro began to stir up a conversation, the current topic being the field boss from the Flower Grove. Oxford couldn't remember the exact name, so he decided to call it 'Maya' instead.
He had just heard Hiro's question about what his thoughts were in the fight against Maya, listening to the monk's thoughts on the matter before responding with his own.
"Well, when you've got three tanks, a DPS and a enchanter, the field boss may as well have been a giant mutant salad. If a vegetarian saw that, they'd probably go back to eating meat."
The minimap on Oxford's HUD showed that they were still quite a ways off from their journey, about 1/3rd of the way there if he had to guess.
Oxford picked up the conversational ball and kept up the talk with Hiro. He thought maybe he could ask to him about what he did before the fight, seeing if he could find some common ground between the two.
"So, what have you been up to before the field boss? Any notable journeys you've made or find interesting discoveries?"
The grass rustled a bit, a gentle breeze wafting through the air. Oxford took delight in it, his new plate armor didn't allow much breathing room unlike his shabbier chain mail.Words: 324OOC Notes: Yeah, I'm totally fine with the conversational posts. Tags: Hirosame |

Chuckling at the remark made by the guardian, Hiro turned his head a bit towards Oxford. "You can say that again." He said, swiftly, in Oxford's comment about the boss being a vegetarian nightmare. The came about the question by Oxford, wondering if Hiro had had any interesting adventures in the world thus far. Sure he had. Of course he had. So, he decided to go ahead and answer the man, in the form of a bit of a monologue. "Yeah, of course. The moment we all got trapped in here, I nearly shit myself, due to the absence of a log out button. Although, I have a certain feeling that I wasn't the only one who felt that way." Taking a moment to laugh at himself, and putting his hands up behind his head. He paused in his speech to think a bit more. "Apocrypha, the guild I co-lead, has had a few run ins with bad situations before, like during the New Years Event. A friend and co-leader of the guild, Midori, actually made the little get together a bit more fun than it probably should have been. She's such a soft spoken girl, so much so that when I grabbed onto her arm and started to run towards another guild mate of our's, I swear she was blushing." Hiro laughed himself, not even realizing that he was blushing a bit, as well.
"A while back, Renai, the Enchanter, and I worked on making a basket for something that we're hoping will come out to being a hot-air balloon. Better ways to travel are always welcome, y'know?" He turned to face the guardian again, and then back to the road, his hands still behind his head. He turned his vision upward. "I've also met some very interesting people, during a quest not too long ago. Two girls, and a very inappropriate Swashbuckler guy. He was kind of a jerk, before he got kicked out of the world, or something like that. I've also made some clothing for a very psychotic samurai girl, Saeko. There's also the fact that Apocrypha will be running the Windsor Castle Dungeon tomorrow..." Hiro trailed off, stopping for a moment. "So much stuff has happened here, that I will likely never forget. And, to be perfectly frank," Hiro put his arms back down, and glanced at the guardian once more, giving him a confident smile. "I'd never trade it away. The kinds of friends in this world will last a lifetime, I'm sure." Hiro walked up to Oxford, and placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him a thumbs up. "And that's bound to include you!" After another confident grin, he started walking forward again. "So, your turn. Anything interesting happen to you, there, Ox?"

Status: A Slow Walk, A Long Talk (Part II) Oxford listened to Hiro's stories, nodding along at some parts and laughing at others. The carefree ambience helped him to loosen up a little more, making it easier to converse with this fellow adventurer.
Hiro was talking about when the sudden emergence into this world happened, Oxford also laughing in agreement.
"Yeah, it shook me up pretty bad, too. I didn't know anybody here, and what little friends I had had been playing on another server when this happened. Things were extremely...awkward..."
Oxford then listened to Hiro's other story of his accounts with his guild, and his stories with someone who sounded important to him. He guess was confirmed when he noticed Hiro's cheeks had flushed a little.
The Guardian couldn't help but feel a little jealous as he listened, not knowing if that someone for him was out there or not. Heck, talking to girls was hard enough already.
He listened intently when Hiro had mentioned the hot-air balloon. He made a note of it in his book, turning back to Hiro to voice his response.
"Hey, that sounds pretty neat. If you need any more help with that, let me know. Although, I don't know if Scribe abilities would be good for a mechanics project..."
Then the Monk mentioned other topics of interest, questing with two girls and an asshat Swashbuckler, making clothes for a psychotic samurai girl (the thought of a psychotic girl running around with a sword scared Oxford), and starting a dungeon run in Windsor with his guild.
He couldn't help but nod when Hiro mentioned how he wouldn't trade those times for anything.
Then it was Oxford's turn.
"Hmm, well, not a lot of interesting stuff has happened to me...Mainly, this Samurai girl named Caerbannog has been dragging me around everywhere. She always seems to need help when it comes to hunting parties or ingredient gatherings."
Memories of some of those events flashed throught Oxford's mind. He smiled at some, shuddering at others.
"Oh yeah, I also helped another Monk, Elkeid, run an improvisational lemonade stand, conviently located next to the Cathedral. Unless you're a man who loves his liquor, I don't know if I'd recommend the place or not."
Some weird stuff had happened when the memory surfaced, remembering how ghostly tickles were involved, but he didn't remember anything else after that.
"Oh, and I helped a Lander girl get enough money to buy medicine for her ailing father. Using what I learned from the lemonade stall episode, I managed to effectively implement 'advertising' and 'business negotiations."
The 'advertising' was slapping his hand-made sign over a rude Lander's stall, and the 'business negotiations' was then dealing with the loud-mouthed disturber of the peace.
They walked along, the minimap showing that they were over halfway there, but there was still a bit of road left.
Another memory emerged, one that he hadn't thought about in awhile. He turned to Hiro before asking his question.
"Whenever you would sleep in the game, would you have weird, vivid dreams sometimes? I've been having a couple lately, and I just wanted to know if others have been experiencing them as well."
The image of the faceless girl from one dream passed through his mind, almost like a whisper as it faded away as the Guardian listened to the Monk's response.
The wind picked up again, Oxford grateful for a second time for the cool air. He would've un-equipped it at this point, but you never know when a beastie will ambush you.
"So, any plans once we're done here? More quests? Other field bosses? Unplanned guild shenanigans?" |

Hiro was glad to see that he wasn't the only one with fond memories of being together with some friends he had made in this world. However, Hiro had one advantage in Midori, in the fact that he had been friends with her for some time before this game was even conceptualized. Mabinogi was the game that they shared, and were considered to be a powerful duo in that game. Sure, he might've thought of her fondly from time to time, but nothing beyond that. At least, he thought so. Maybe every now and again, he would... Actually, he should probably stop right there, lest Midori's ears start ringing, or she sneeze, or whatever the meta was on when people realized that someone else was thinking about them. Knowing her, she'd probably come and ask him about it soon enough afterwards. He would hate to explain it all to her, in that he was thinking of her in a sense that she probably wasn't too comfortable with. Or... Maybe she was? They'd been talking and hanging out a lot together recently... But, probably not, knowing her. Hiro could only hope, however.
Moving on from that. Hiro knew about Elkeid. That woman was a scary piece of work. She was enough of a deterrent all on her own, without the need of a reason to go near her to begin with. He was aware of the female Samurai that Oxford mentioned, since they were on the boss mission with her the day before. So, it went without saying that she was a hell of a woman. Being level 55 already was nuts. Sure, Hiro himself was level 31, but that was after constant grinding for days at a time. Not to mention, quests brought his level up higher, too. It was about this time that Hiro heard Oxford's mentioning of the weird dreams. He paused for a moment, but couldn't really think of any weird dreams. "No, I can't really say that I've had any. I'm not sure if that means anything, either, Ox." He simply put his hand on Ox's shoulder again, and smiled sincerely. "I'm sure it's nothing, though. Dreams are weird to begin with."
The next question was if there were other events that would be happening soon enough, and Hiro could only think of one. "Well, Midori and I were planning on going to the camps back there in Sarum, and we were gonna set up a place where people can come to us if they need help or something." His face flushed again, but shook his head violently to get his mind off of it. It was at that moment that he saw that they were about at the spot where the golems would be appearing from. Hiro immediately got into a defensive stance, back to back with Oxford. Hiro raised his fists, and struck a solid stance. He started to watch his surroundings, and decided that he'd go ahead and continue their conversation, as the mood got serious. "Well, I think that's about it for right now, so maybe my little thing with Midori will go okay. How about you, Ox?" Hiro hoped that Oxford picked up on the notion thatKing they were probably about to get into some serious fighting. Of course, that's what the guardian most likely signed up for. Hiro smirked, thinking that he knew there was a reason he liked this guy.

Oxford felt a little crestfallen when Hiro stated that he didn't have any dreams. The Guardian was sure they didn't mean anything, but never in his life, even back in the real world, had he ever had a dream as vivid as the one that happened in the forest.
(Eh, stop worrying about it. Probably some game system going a little screwy.)
He listened to Hiro as he talked about doing more future events with Midori, watching him shake his head violently.
(Yep, he's got a thing for her.)
Then it was his turn to hold up his end of the conversational obligation. Despite knowing that he would be asked the question, Oxford really hadn't planned out what he wanted to later in game life. He was too concerned with things happening in the now to care about things later on in the future.
"Oh, well, I've been trying to decide between joining a guild or making my own. I might just go with joining that guild, because I know a member who tried to get me to join."
(And by 'tried', I mean she literally tried dragging me into it.)
Oxford gave the monk a friendly slap on the back, smiling as he did so.
"I'm sure everything will go fine with Midori. You seem like a pretty nice guy, so things will go fine with her along for the ride."
A glance at his minimap showed that they were on top of the destination marker, meaning the mobs could be lurking at anywhere around here. He felt Hiro take up a defensive stance behind him, drawing his longsword and affixing his tower shield. The Guardian tightened his grip on his equipment, scanning the area.
A rumbling could be heard, the ground shaking beneath their feet as whatever behemoth that had spawned slowly made its way towards them. They were in a large clearing, two sheer-faced rock walls on both sides of the two adventurers.
Even though the ground was shaking, Oxford couldn't see anyone approaching them from his side.
(I think the sound's coming from Hiro's end, but then again, it could be over here.)
He kept his eyes on the area in front of him, just in case any other beasties decided they wanted a piece of the Tanks. |

Hiro couldn't help but blush a bit at the remark about things going well with Midori. He hoped that one day that could be a thing, but maybe not in the chaos of what was going on in this world. Then again, it might not be a good thing. Midori was Hiro's closest friend, after all, and he didn't want anything to come between them. If she didn't want to have a thing, then he could only respect that, and back off a bit if she wanted him to. If she didn't want him to back off, then he wouldn't. If, on the off chance, that she did want a thing, then he'd gladly devote himself to it. However, maybe he did already? He was confused on the subject in its entirety, and really needed to focus on what was ahead. Although, Oxford was being rather supportive, so Hiro couldn't help but feel confident to have the man at his back. Hiro turned back for a moment, to give the guardian a nod, but his eye caught something else instead, ahead of himself.
"Enemy approaching, Ox!" Hiro called out. They weren't walking towards them, no no. They were coming out of the mountainside to greet them. It looked like just a Golem Sentinel on Hiro's end, and he imagined that Oxford would be fighting the same on his side. Either way, this thing was massive. A walking giant. But, that didn't bother him all that much. Hiro smirked, as at that moment, a very familiar song began to play in his head. Hiro broke away from Oxford, charging directly at the stone monstrosity. Hiro vaulted himself up into the air, and delivered a preemptive donkey kick to the center of the Sentinel. This didn't do all that much damage, but still it was damage. Having dealt about 10% of its health, Hiro felt his confidence rising, as he landed on his feet. The golem was swinging its massive arm at him, which he easily dodged by leaping over. Hiro activated Wyvern Kick to pummel down on top of the enemy, and rebounded off from there.
While in the air, he used the momentum to generate extra damage for his next activated skill, Aura Kick. He landed on the shoulders of the monster, before flipping backwards off of it, and used his Somersault Kick to deal some extra damage as he fell. Hiro landed again, only to see a giant golem fist coming at him from the side. He hopped up, but didn't have enough room to dodge completely. He took a bit of damage, but still managed to land it just fine. He had lost a measly 2%, which he grinned at. Hiro got back up onto the shoulders of the enemy, and watched as its arm came at him again. Hiro leaped up, and let it punch itself in the face, before he landed on the other shoulder, and charged up his Aura Dragon Punch to launch into its head. Letting the blast collide with the head of the monster, blowing it up, the monster slowly started to disappear from underneath Hiro. Despite being a Rock monster, Hiro still did too much damage for the thing. He looked over at Oxford, to see how he was fairing in his own battle.

The fact that there were two Golem Sentinels caught Oxford off-guard for a second.
(Huh, didn't know they came in pairs...)
He heard Hiro's cry of incoming enemies, turning to look back over at Hiro's end. A Golem Sentinel had slid out of the wall, just like his, and was now making it's way towards the Monk. Oxford turned back to face his, the Guardian's doing the same thing.
The scenario reminded him of a video game that he used to play, a game named after the shadows cast by giant colossal monsters. The Sentinel was nowhere near as high as one of those bosses, but it was still imposing, nonetheless. Knowing what he had to do, Oxford gripped the handle of his longsword, reassuring himself with the knowledge of his weapon's presence.
Oxford wasted no time crossing the distance between him and his assailant, letting loose a [Taunting Shout] as he bull-rushed the boulder oaf. This ensured that this Sentinel would have for Oxford and for Oxford only, so Hiro wouldn't have to face two Sentinel's by himself if the Guardian failed to keep its attention. He let loose one of his own taunts as he rushed at it.
"HEY, YOU BOULDER BASTARD! IS THAT YOUR FACE, OR DID EROSION MAKE IT LIKE THAT?!"
(...I really need to find better taunts...)
Despite having an inadequate way of pissing off monsters, the Sentinel began to slam its fists in the ground, Oxford managing to slide underneath the blows or taking the brunt of them with his tower shield. This shaved off a little of his precious HP, the damage equivalent to getting a handful of small rocks thrown in your face. Not super painful, but irritating all the same.
The Sentinel came at him with a wide right hook. He might as well have been wearing a sign that said "I'm gonna punch you from the right" around its blockish neck. Oxford raised his shield, not wanting to take the punch due to the negative implications it would have on his face. Instead, he activated a [Counter Break], the Golem's right arm bursting into gravel, pelting Oxford as it rained buckets of pebbles.
As the Golem reeled back, either from pain or disorientation, Oxford let loose an [Aura Saber], the blast sweeping its legs like a karate student obeying his twisted sensei's orders to fight dirty. The Sentinel, in its last act of desperation grabbed at Oxford, hoping to crush the Guardian in its grip.
Another [Counter Break] stopped that fist stone cold (pun not intended). The skies were again littered with pebbles, raining rocky hailstones (which also happen to be regular rocks) as the limbless Sentinel just sat like a...well, like a rock. Mustering as much strength as he could, he stabbed it through the boulder that acted as its head, the body and the pebble mess that made up its limbs disappearing in wisps of data.
He turned to see how Hiro was doing, but the Monk had already wrapped things up on his end. Sheathing his sword, he flashed him a thumbs-up, indicating things were good on his end. |

Hiro returned the thumbs up, before jogging back over to his ally. He was rather glad to see that Oxford could handle his own in this place, despite being a few levels lower than Hiro. But, it was to be expected. Oxford was a pretty solid guy, so it wasn't that big of a surprise to see him functional in battle, as well. He thought about it all for a moment, and remembered that Oxford said he was in between guild ideas right now, and thought that it might be a good chance to recruit another person to the guild. However, giving it another thought, it might be best to just let the guardian deal with his own decisions instead of trying to force another into his head. Sure, Hiro would love to have Oxford join Apocrypha, as it would be a very good thing to have another tank in the guild, but he figured that it'd probably be best to let people come to them, instead. Besides, Midori might not like it being too crowded.
Instead of attempting to recruit the guardian, Hiro figured that he'd ask the man about which he was giving more thought into. "So, Ox. You said that you were thinking about either joining a guild, or creating your own." Hiro began, taking a passive, relaxed stance. "Which one are you more interested in? Making one, or joining one?" Hiro hoped that he didn't sound like he was trying to recruit, but if that's what it sounded like to Ox, he'd apologize for it later. As for right now, a simple question was all that it was. While listening to Oxford's eventual response, Hiro decided to do a bit of looking around, to see what he could see, or if there even was anything to look around for. He noticed that the places where the golems had spawned from disappeared, and figured that the Golem Phalanx would be showing up soon enough. He is usually accompanied by two Golem Sentinels, and would appear once they were defeated. However, it looked like it was taking its sweet time getting here, so he thought he might as well continue their conversation from earlier. No harm, no foul, of course. Perhaps Ox would like to continue talking, if he felt up for it. If not, the golem would show up eventually, so there wouldn't be much more waiting, he figured.

Oxford sheated his sword back into his scabbard, thinking of an answer for Hiro's question. The Guardian crossed his arms as he closed his eyes, something he usually does when thinking hard about a decision.
"...Well, there's one guild I'm thinking about joining, since I know a couple of the people there. Also, I'm kind of lazy, so dealing with all the management and responsibilities of running a guild is kind of a put off. Pathetic, I know."
He shook his head as he let out a laugh.
"But yeah, one of the members in that guild keeps dragging me around to join her on different expeditions, so I figured I'd make it easier on both of us and try to join the guild she's in."
He thought back to all the antics that that adventurer had brought him through. Sure, death was pretty much imminent in all of them, but that's what made them exciting.
Oxford smiled to himself as he recalled those times, just staring blankly ahead as some them replayed in his mind's eye. But then the narrator decided not to do one of those boring flashback things, since that would bore many people who are following along on this journey with the two.
The Guardian began to do some stretches to loosen up, feeling a little tired from all the energy he used to fight off the Sentinel. He paused mid stretch as he remembered a question he'd been meaning to ask.
"Oh, yeah. Just curious: what's the furthest distance you've gone away from Londenium? Encountered any mysterious walls or borders?"
It was a thought experiment that had always bothered Oxford. Could an adventurer explore as much and as far as they wanted? Were the boundaries imposed on them back when Elder Tales was still a game still enforced now?
Who knows. Oxford never got around venturing too far, mainly because he didn't want to get seiged by PKers as he adventured around. Luckily, he hadn't witnessed any of those sorts of nasty events, and if he did, he'd make there would be hell to pay.
As he listened to the auburn-haired Monk's response, he thought he felt a slight rumbling beneath his feet. Oxford immediately went on the defensive, raising his shield and unsheating his sword, a metallic ring sounding out as he prepared himself for what was to come.
If it turned out to be something non-threatening, like a boulder falling to the ground somewhere, then he'd feel really stupid for getting all riled up for nothing. |

Hiro put his hands up behind his head, turning up to the sky at Oxford's returning question. How far had Hiro really gone from London? And why do people insist on calling it Londenium? Sure, that might have been the area surrounding London, as well as the city itself, but it was sill London, after all things were considered. He shook the thought from his head, because if he brought that question up, Oxford might ask a question relating to Hiro and Midori, if they were going to get into personal opinions on things in this world. His mind flourished for a moment as he thought about it, letting his face grow a little red. He hoped that Ox wouldn't make a note about it or something, since it was a rather embarrassing thing for him to talk about. "Well, I'd say the furthest I went from London would probably be Stonehenge." He said, turning back to face the guardian. He gave a soft smile, noticing how he had calmed down and his face was no longer red.
Hiro was about to return the question, when the ground began to shake and quiver around them. Hiro got into a defensive stance, immediately, and started to look around. Oxford was also ready for anything to come towards them, so he didn't need to worry about anything other than his own safety. Ox was a strong fellow, so he had no problems entrusting his back to the man. Once he finished with this thought, he could've sworn that he saw the mountain in the distance rumbling. To his dismay, it was. Hiro's jaw dropped for a minute, watching the Golem Phalanx begin to march solemnly towards the two adventurers. What Hiro found strange was the lack of support around him, and the fact that the ground was still shaking violently, not in tune with the walking animation of the field elite. Something was weird, of course, and Hiro wanted to know what exactly it was that was making the shaking and rumbling.
As if to answer his question, the Golem Phalanx stopped, and two more Golem Sentinels move around the hulking beast, heading towards the two tanks. Hiro gave a disgruntled sigh, but you could see a slight grin on his face as they approached. Hiro stood to the side of Oxford, and waited for a little while, letting the golems get closer and closer. The wind blew slightly, shifting Hiro's hair and shirt a bit. It looked like this was the setting for the final battle of the day. Hiro turned to Ox for a moment, before giving him a nod. He then faced ahead, and began to charge at the enemies. A golden aura began to form around Hiro for a few seconds, as he approached the golem on the left, and copies of his figure began to appear. Hiro shouted, as did his clones, and they all crashed their fists into the Golem Sentinel. Since the attack dealt 1.5x the normal damage he did, the effect of the assault had a large impact on the monster. Hiro smirked, as his copies went away, and struck a battle position, ready to continue the fight.

After watching the Monk's display of power as he smashed into the left most golem, Oxford ran at the one on the right. He opened up with a Taunting Shout again, thus ensuring that the golem had eyes (er...rocks) for the Guardian.
Not boasting enough speed, Oxford opted to take the golem's first strike with his shield. Normally, a Counter Break would've been used, but instead, he thought he would try something different with this guy. Seeing as how a hulking Golem Phalanx was slowly making its way towards the two, now probably wasn't the best time for experimentation.
He slashed at the golem's fist, taking it off at the wrist as the rocks making up its hand crumbled to the ground. Deciding to go the 'No Skills or Go Home' route, he made another two slices at both of its legs. The newly made stubs for the golem caused it to lose its balance, waddling around like a toddler learning to walk.
The behemoth collapsed to the ground, losing the fight against gravity as it fell forward. Oxford waited a couple seconds for the dust kicked up by the golem to disperse, walking up to the creature's head. He sheathed his sword and, using both hands, raised his massive tower shield above his head. He lined up his aim with the joint that supposedly made up the monster's neck, bringing the shield down hard upon it. Hammer Break activated, resulting in a large sound being made as the life of the golem faded away into bits.
With that threat eliminated, he pulled his sword out again, the fight far from being over. In fact, it just now begun as the hulking Phalanx slowly lumbered toward the pair of Tanks. He assumed his default stance, shield in front, sword to the side. He shot a questioning glance at Hiro, his Golem already long taken care of.
"So, what's the plan, partner?" |

Hiro smirked a bit at Oxford's question, and looked over at him with a childish grin. "The same thing we did against Mayahuel, Ox." Hiro lowered his stance, and grinned wider, but with a more sadistic look instead of childish. "Beat the living hell out of it!" He figured that Ox could get behind such a simplistically fun plan, almost as easily as it had been to find the auburn-haired monk in a crowd of black-haired people. It's not hard to notice the one who stands out the most in those kinds of situations, and a combat plan was more than effective, he imagined. Since this hulking bastard wasn't resistant against physical attacks, for whatever reason, Hiro and Ox could probably take this thing down simply. It would require a bit of doing, of course, since it was, after all, a field elite, and it probably had a fair deal of health behind it. Perhaps some good defense as well. Oh well, it didn't really matter. Hiro and Ox were pretty much guaranteed to win. Now, all that was left to do, was put the fighting into motion.
Hiro sprinted towards the earthen behemoth at full speed, activating a skill along the way. Hiro glowed golden for a few moments, before 4 copies of himself started to appear around him. All 5 marched with burning passion towards the monster, moving as fast as they could. Using up a considerably larger amount of Mana than before, Hiro kept the clones out, and activated [Wyvern Kick] to bring them all up into the air, in an X shape, with Hiro in the middle. All 5 began to charge up a ball of energy in their cupped hands, and released a powerful barrage of [Aura Dragon Punches], in a form that Hiro has created on his own, known only as [Dragon's Breath]. The five-pronged assault impacted on the slow moving enemy with great force, and the clones disappeared. Hiro's mana had suffered about 60% total loss in that last move, leaving him with only about 20% remaining. This would be enough to deal a few more hits, at least. Hiro made his way, closing the gap between himself and the monster.
He launched himself up onto the rocky limbs of the golem, punching and kicking on the way up. He aimed to deal as much damage as he could to the beast, and leave the kill for Oxford. He figured it'd be best for the man to go ahead and finish this thing off, as his mana had decreased so much. After this, they should probably be able to end the quest, and perhaps go off and get some food back in town. Hiro let the thought permeate in his mind, and let it become his drive. But, then, the burning drive of finishing off Mayahuel returned to Hiro, and his body seemed to move faster and faster on its own. His adrenaline-filled blood had been pumping heavily. His body move almost completely on its own for a while, making his way up to the top of the monster. It was about the moment that he reached the top, that the monster was swinging its massive arm up to hit him. Hiro used a little more of his mana, to plant an [Aura Kick] onto the head of the golem, before he was knocked clear away from the fight. Hiro looked to Ox as he flew, and impacted into the cliff-side. "Do it, Ox!" Hiro shouted, from the rocks, as he slid down to the ground, letting his body fall somewhat limp.

"Now yer talkin'!"
Sometimes, it was nice just to let loose and whale on a enemy for a while. You know, like a stress-relieving punching bag made of rocks. Tactics were tossed out the window as the stony beast slowly lumbered towards the two. The auburn Monk broke away from their formation, charging towards the beast head-on while Oxford dashed at it as well. He opted to stay near its legs, seeing if he could whittle them down to stall it. Sparks flew when the Guardian's sword met the hard surface of the rock, leaving only a few scratches on leg's surface. Of course the usual plan wouldn't work. This was an Elite monster, not one of those pathetic little thumb-sucking golems from before.
While the phalanx was being distracted by the Monk's arcane arts of punching, Oxford took this oppurtunity to go ahead and begin scaling the giant. Running around to the back of the golem's leg, he jumped up and stabbed it with his sword, using it as a hand hold to help him scale his way up the monster's back. He felt the rocks making up the golem rumble as it received the brunt of the Hiros' Aura Punches, followed up by the original Hiro's combo finisher. He tightened his hand around his sword, making sure his other hand had a good grip on the rocks before continuing any further. It'd suck to fall to the ground and have to start the climb all over again.
Luckily, the Guardian stuck with it and managed to stand atop the behemoth's shoulder. He saw the Monk just land a Aura Kick directly to the lump of rocks making up its head as Hiro flew backwards, sliding down the wall of the cliff as he shouted to Oxford to finish it off. He brandished his shield as he shouted out his acknowledgement.
"On it!"
He sliced at the clump that looked like its neck, more and more of the rocks falling out of place with every swipe the Guardian took. When there was hardly anthing left of its head support, Oxford drew back his shield-wielding arm, activating Hammer Beat and overlaying it with the Counter Break skill. Once the cast times were completed, Oxford brought the shield crashing into the golem's head. The rock went flying like the cork of a champagne bottle. Oxford would've let out an elated whoop now that the main event was finished...but first, he had to make sure he didn't suffer from fall damage as the rocks that made up the phalanx's body didn't come tumbling down. He decided to go ahead and copy the Monk's idea of using the cliff side to slow him, rolling on the ground once his feet hit the dusty floor.
After picking himself up off the ground and dusting himself, he turned to face the Monk.
"Man, what a rush. Hope that guy didn't bring a friend along."
He coughed a bit from all the dust floating around, waiting until it cleared out some more until he asked his next question.
"Probably about time to head back to camp, don't you think?" |

Hiro watched the guardian attack the beast, as his body relaxed on the ground nearby. He felt his vision drift a bit, and things got a bit hazy. He took a big hit to the back of the head, but it was certainly not enough to keep him down for good. Still, it hurt. A lot. Shaking his head any amount probably wouldn't help much, so he just needed to power through it. As always, back in the real world, whenever he got hit, fell over, or anything that made him physically dizzy, he would take a swig of water, and things would get better almost immediately. He went into his inventory quickly, and selected a flask of water, which he guzzled down almost immediately. His vision and body seemed to return to normal, as the cool feeling of the water coursing through his body helped him feel relieved. He looked back up to Oxford and the battle, only to see that it was already over. He had totally missed the fighting against the Phalanx from an observer's point of view. Of course, this wasn't too big of a deal, since it meant that the quest was over.
He stood back up, fully, and gave a victorious glace to Oxford. He chuckled at Ox's comment about other golems in the area. Turning to face the man, and walking over towards him, Hiro put his hands on his sides, and looked over the collapsed golem behind the guardian. It was a glorious sight to see, that two men, roughly the same height, could take down a group of large golems with such ease. Hiro noted that his HP didn't fall below 50%, which was a victory if he ever knew of one. He then turned to his guardian ally, which wasn't much of a large turn to face him. He smiled a bit more, and started to walk towards the base camp once again. "Yeah, I figure you're right. Let's head to camp." He said, looking to the horizon. He wanted to know what was over there, but for now, he'd need to head back. Hopefully, this would bring them all a bit closer to finding their way over. Maybe they could use this canyon as a new forward base camp. Who knows? People are incredibly strong, and there was certainly a way to do this. Whatever, he'd let the next few suckers worry about it. As for he and Ox, they'd probably head back, enjoy a drink or two, grab some food, and then head off back to London. If anything good came out of this quest today, he'd made a pretty good friend in Oxford. He looked forward to their next quest immediately. Hiro chuckled to himself, and gave Oxford a thumbs up, before he started walking back to camp.
