| SubclassChefToolsCooking Utensils SkillTongue of NatureRecipeResearch What a lazy whatever-day-it-is morning. Caerbannog rolled out of her cave and Roo followed her. The frenmic rabbit had been awake for a whole hour and had been asking for food, but all he got as a reply from his tamer was a sleepy “hnnnnngh”. The samurai had stayed up all the night for obvious reason; perhaps to think about the meaning of life or to formulate a new kind of alcoholic milkshake in her mind for her next drinking spree. It took a while before Caerbannog was completely awake and she realized that her rabbit was starving. She headed into the kitchen with the creature in her arms but the cabinets and cupboards contained nothing but one lone apple. Someone had forgotten to restock everything; where was their chef anyway?! Why didn’t he- oh wait, Caerbannog was Aeryn’s chef! She’d forgotten all about that since she was doing smithy things.
“I guess we’re going out,” she said to Roo who was no longer surprised that his tamer could speak their tongue, albeit with a strange accent, “You can have this.”
The samurai held the apple in front of the rabbit as she walked out of the kitchen and eventually out of the guild house. She walked down the streets wearing just her sleeping attire: a large plain white shirt and grey capri leggings. Caerbannog had not taken a bath or combed her hair, and she smelled strangely of... well, rabbit, because Roo. No, not rabbit poo; just plain ol’ rabbit which was a kind of earthy, grassy scent. The landers which usually pestered her for quests were puzzled at the girl’s appearance and so they let her pass without dragging her off to help with their requests. Eventually, the wolf-hair reached a street full of shops for both pharmacists who sold medicine, chefs who sold cooked meals, bread, pastries or candies, and brewers who sold various types of drinks. Mmm... alcohol.
“NO! Get food!” Roo shrieked at his tamer and that snapped the girl out of her trance. She was already headed for a bar that early in the morning, having forgotten her objective which was to refill the pantry of Aeryn.
“Ah... right,” Caerbannog nodded at her frenmic rabbit. Fulfill her role as chef first, and then afterwards she could do whatever she wanted!
With that in mind, she headed for a bakery but along the way, she passed by a pharmacist’s shop. A lander boy and his mother walked out of it with the child in an obviously foul mood.
“But Mum, I don’t like potions! They taste so crappy!” the boy complained to his mother who just sighed, “Why can’t they be tasty like jellybeans!”
Caerbannog stopped on her tracks. Now, there was an idea. Why -can’t- potions be as tasty as jellybeans? Maybe they can! She already made some resistance sweets after all, so perhaps the same could be applicable to health and mana potions. But she knew next to nothing about restorative medicine. Obviously they had a difference if compared to food items which restored HP and MP as well. But what was the difference, and how could medicine and food work together?

I don't want to sound like a petulant child, but…" Fiver pawed anxiously at her leg. "We've been out here all morning, and the only grass about is in poor quality and quantity! I want some food!" The Frenmic Rabbit slammed a hind paw down hard onto the ground. He was surprisingly coherent and intelligent, though she supposed she had her Tongue of Nature skill to thank for that, along with the books she had read to him before acquiring the skill. His vocabulary wasn't limited like Dobby's, but nowhere near as sophisticated as Archduke Franz Ferdinand's. The little owl apparently frequented libraries and bookstores.
"It will only be for a little while longer," she said to the fidgeting rabbit. "Just try to be patient with me, all right? I promise I'll take you out in the fields afterwards-"
Fiver sat up on his haunches and began hopping about, performing his patented rain dance. "Where are they?! Where all the fine ass does -"
Capsule froze in alarm. With Tongue of Nature being an Adventurer skill, almost anyone could have it, and she did not wish for one of them to overhear Fiver's enthusiasm. "Fiver! Shush!"
"But-"
She quickly moved her hand to the side in a cutting off gesture. "One more peep out of you, mister, and I will return you to your slot." Fiver pouted and dropped back down on all fours. He could be disappointed and sour minded all he wanted, but she was not going to tolerate any of his foolishness this morning. The does would still be there when they arrived. Though, Capsule had to wonder if Fiver's last visit left any does pregnant with his kits. Male rabbits were such sluts.
Enchanter and rabbit fell silent for a spell as the former strolled about the market, occasionally flagging down potential customers. The order haul this morning was lacking a bit; the competition was out in droves today, and Capsule's usual attire was not doing her any favors. Perhaps hiding in the shadows like a shady drug dealer was not her best idea, though she was certainly trying now to engage people. Fiver hopped around her ankles, clearly uninterested by the crowd of people that passed them by.
Almost an hour later, it became apparent to Capsule that she should just take her meager requests and go about the rest of her day. A legit shop was something she would consider; she had the funds for a decent shop space. That was why everyone else was so successful, right? They all had reasonable shop space. Capsule allowed herself to get lost in her thoughts as she walked, but Fiver was alert and did not miss the small Samurai his mistress almost stepped on. "Oi! Watch where you're going, Kappa!"
Capsule blinked and came to an abrupt stop, stopping just a few centimeters from Caerbannog, who… may have rolled out of the wrong side of the bed this morning. Her hair was unkempt, she was wearing clothes better suited for lounging, and she smelled strongly of rabbit. Capsule knew that smell all too well, thanks to Fiver and his brethren. "...Caerbannog?" She started to ask what she was doing out here, but that seemed obvious enough. The Samurai was a Chef, after all.

| SubclassChefToolsCooking Utensils SkillTongue of NatureRecipeResearch Caerbannog stood in front of the pharmacist’s shop, lost in her thoughts as she pondered on the idea that just popped into her mind. She did consider asking the shop’s owner for help regarding her hundred questions about that crafting class, but the girl thought it rude to barge in without the intention to buy anything. And so she stood there, locked in place when Roo almost jumped off her arms as a tall figure almost ran them over.
“Oneechan!” was Hrairoo’s name for the samurai, a word that he picked up from the girl herself when he asked if he could refer to her as his sister, “Watch ou- oh, it’s just Capsule. And Fiver! Hi!”
The frenmic rabbit’s ears perked up as he looked at the enchanter’s direction, and then he nodded at his fellow rabbit. He had missed everything that Fiver said about does and such, which was probably best for Roo since he had a very bad experience with a certain doe named Hyzenthlay. Upon hearing his voice and Capsule’s too, Caerbannog snapped out of her pointless thoughts and directed her attention at the fateful encounter.
“Capsule!” the wolf-hair exclaimed, “I want your drugs!”
Well, that was one way to put it. It wasn’t the most appropriate way to put it though, and what the samurai said drew weird looks from passers-by. Caerbannog did not notice what was going on around her and was fixated on Capsule and her stuff. She waited eagerly for an answer until Roo spoke up.
“I don’t know what’s going on but you’re kind of blocking the way,” the rabbit pointed out.
And indeed, the pharmacist shop’s patrons were trying to go around the samurai and the half-Alv. They shot some mean looks at the young women and at the rabbits too. Hrairoo, not used to such meanness, buried his face on the crook of his tamer’s arm.
“Oh, sorry,” Caerbannog apologized to the patrons and then she stepped over to one side of the shop’s door. She then explained a bit of her ideas to Capsule, “I can make candies. Can medicine be candies? Small and fruity and easy to eat?”
What she had in mind were the smallest confections such as pastilles, gumdrops and jellybeans. Could a potent medicine be squeezed into such a tiny form? Had Capsule tried it before? More importantly, her stomach grumbled- what could she have for breakfast?

I want your drugs!”
The demand caught the Enchanter's attention more than the content did. It was so sudden and - 'Crap,' she thought as a few unwanted eyes were turned in their direction. Now people were going to think that she was a drug dealer, and Caerbannog was one of her junkie customers. The Caer was a little too clean and healthy looking to actually be one, but her attire and the state of her hair was doing her no favors… and neither was blocking the entrance to a Pharmacist's shop. 'Oh dear.' "Oh dear" was right.
Roo piped up first, telling Caer what Cap already knew - they were in the way. "Er, sorry about that," she said as she backed away from the door. As soon as the small crowd of people passed, she turned back to Caer. "Now, what were you saying…?" Capsule was expecting Caerbannog to say that she needed some more health pots or something. What she did not expect was the girl to make a research proposal. "Well, I don't see why not. There are medicinal candies in the real world - sort of, anyway. Like cough drops, Tums, and gummy vitamins for children. I'm sure we could do something like that here, but I don't know how to make candy…" Well, if Caer could supply the candy making know how, Capsule would gladly lend her expertise.
...This discussion would best be done away from a rival Pharmacist's shop, though. Some people were not above stealing ideas from others, and she sure as hell did not trust many of the people that frequented this area. "I'll help you, Caer, but we should move to somewhere more… secluded." The Adventurer window shopping a few feet away shifted uncomfortably, and shot Capsule a brief glance. Yeah, no way they were sticking around here and exchanging research ideas. They needed to find a quiet corner to think - the soft rumbling from Caer's stomach threw Cap off. "And maybe we can grab you something to eat along the way. You don't want to work on an empty stomach." Luckily for Caer, Capsule knew just the place. "C'mon." She gestured with her head for Caer to follow, and strode off towards the thick of the market.
There were food vendors scattered about, rather than concentrated in one area. This was mostly for the benefit of people who were too lazy to walk all the way to the "food court," and also kind of convenient for shop owners who could not afford to stray too far from their wares. There was one vendor in particular that was Capsule's favorite, and that was the booth of a heavily bosomed woman who sold sweet pastries. It wasn't that she came here to ogle the attractive woman's impressive sweater puppies. Oh no. Capsule wasn't a perv.
"What can I do for you today, hon~?" Her voice was as thick and sweet as honey, like always.
Fiver snorted and kicked Capsule in the leg. "Uh, the usual! And whatever she wants." She jerked a thumb back at Caer. Capsule's usual was a bear claw, though sometimes she ordered an apple fritter. Did Caer like pastries…? That was probably a question she should have asked beforehand, but eh. After acquiring their snacks, Capsule would lead Caerbannog and the rabbits to a bench and small work table behind an abandoned building. This was one of the areas she visited when she felt the need to craft under an open sky and subtly poison every living thing within reach.
Capsule was really unsure how they were supposed to go about this. Was she to make a potion and somehow force it into a piece of candy that Care made? Or treat it like one would a medicinal tablet, only sweetened? She glared at the bear claw, but it did nothing but steam a bit from the heat it contained. At her feet, Fiver was hopping about in excitement as he nibbled on blades of grass and flowers.

| SubclassChefToolsCooking Utensils SkillTongue of NatureRecipeResearch The samurai appeared as if she had just rolled out of bed but her mind was slowly accelerating to overdrive. More than the idea that just popped into her head, Capsule’s presence served to be the catalyst. Ideas were just ideas after all and without input from a pharmacist, she would be unable to confirm her assumptions. Though Caerbannog herself could take up the pharmacist crafting class and learn its ways little by little, it was not a viable option at that moment. And it wasn’t a crafting class that she wanted either. The chef would rather cook delicious food that had healing or resisting effects, than create medicine though those tend to have more potent effects. Her objective was for her fellow adventurers to actually enjoy what they tasted than bitterly gulp down whatever was given to them.
Caerbannog did not understand why they had to go somewhere else, somewhere secluded to be precise. Maybe it was Capsule’s thing, who knows? Maybe it would get her killed someday but the samurai was infallibly trusting of people that she liked, and the redhead was one of those that she felt comfortable with. Perhaps finding a fellow animal trainer in a sea of strangers was the reason, perhaps it was the super cute squid, or perhaps it was the nighttime adventure to hunt golems in Sarum that made her trust the enchanter. Whatever was the reason, she followed Capsule without a question and grabbing breakfast along the way was just a plus.
The lander had some massive puppies. Heh. Caerbannog looked down at her own chest as the enchanter ordered something, and by the time that Capsule passed the baton to the shorter girl, the wolf-hair had put Roo on her own head and had taken to groping her own bust. Hrairoo did not really understand the anatomy of humans so he just stared down at his tamer and blinked curiously at what she was doing. When the busty lander stared at Caerbannog, the girl put her hands down and exclaimed that she wanted the fluffiest éclair. Once the food item was handed to her and her payment was accepted, the chef stuffed her face full of sweetness and cream as she walked alongside the pharmacist.
Behind an abandoned building, Capsule led Caerbannog to a work table. It seemed fitting for the enchanter who, to the samurai, seemed like a drifter. That was an interesting personality for someone who took a support class since the samurai herself thought that such a person would gravitate towards static parties. Then again, Kyuu herself tended to go on solo flights even when she played support classes, so it was not an impossibility. If anything, it made her comfortable around the enchanter knowing that Capsule was capable of taking care of herself if ever an unfortunate event occurred during their adventures.
Back to the matter at hand, the chef opened her interface and pulled out her utensils from the inventory. Measuring cups and spoons, two mixing bowls, a wooden spoon and a sauce pan. She also pulled out a flint and set about making a circle made of rocks and debris, within which she threw some flammable materials; it was to be used as her stove just because the chef had gotten used to building her own flame. Caerbannog then stood up straight and turned to Capsule; Hrairoo still lay down lazily upon the samurai’s head.
“Can make healing potion please?” the chef asked of the pharmacist as she tilted her head a bit, “I look at how to make… then make how it can be cooked.”
Somewhat a riddle but no, not really. Making potions, Caerbannog assumed, was more sensitive than cooking. If the research was to succeed, the chef would have to adjust her methods according to how Capsule created her potions and not the other way around.

She should probably set out her Pharmacist junk, too, if they were going to be playing the roles of mad scientists researchers. Capsule's Pharmacist tools were a bit… unorthodox at first glance. She had her upgraded mortar and pestle from Sarum, her kukri, some vials and beakers, and a flower pot that she used as a portable fire source. It was probably not very safe, but it was a decent fall back when she lacked a proper heat source. Caerbannog, in stark contrast, was constructing a legit camp fire. Capsule glanced at her ghetto little flower pots, and back at the pint sized Samurai. Yeah, she was never the outdoorsy type, so… "Uh, yeah," she said when Caer asked her to make a healing potion. 'I should have seen that coming, I guess…' Healing potions were simple for her to make at this level. She could probably make them in her sleep by now - no joke. Fiver's ears perked up when he heard the soft rustle of herbs shifting about in parchment. This was how his mistress contained her plant-like ingredients when she was not using them. She placed two herbs down on the table before her, and seized her kukri. It was a little large for the task at hand, but she had long grown accustomed to using it for just about any occasion - hacking down vegetation, chopping fruit and vegetables, cutting rope, warding off thugs or monsters, and even to extend her reach for things that were actually taller than she. For now, though, it was just used to cut the herbs down to a size that would make grinding it much easier. The blade on this weapon was also wickedly sharp, so it did not take long at all to fill the bowl of her mortar. The grinding was unimportant and too dull to spend a paragraph on describing, and why even bother, in the first place? Either way, those first two steps were utterly unremarkable. What Capsule liked most was fooling around with fire and chemicals, despite the fact that she lacked proper training before entering this world. It was just fun to do sometimes, even if she did screw up, though trace remainders of video game logic was kind enough to overlook some things based on her high crafting level. She uncorked a small bottle of impure solvent, and carefully poured it into an empty beaker. The solvent was not left alone for too long; the powdered herbs joined it next, in a union that caused a good deal of the latter to sink to the bottom of the beaker. Capsule gently swished the contents around until the rest of the powder was under the solvent, and then placed the beaker to the side. There was some more rustling as she rooted around for some kindling - chiefly a few twigs and torn pages from a trashy BDSM novel. She scattered the twigs around the bottom of the flower pot, and then crumpled up a few sheets of paper to fill in the space. Making a fire was always such a hassle for the redhead, but she managed to strike and catch a flame, which she then quickly held to the paper, and gently blew on until the fire spread. Once the fire was going at a steady rate, she placed the beaker in the flower pot. It would take a few minutes for the mixture to boil, but Capsule was certain that the previous steps would be of better interest to the… not a fruit ninja. Fruit chef? Bleh, that did not sound nowhere near as cool as the game. What interested Capsule was how Caer was going to pull this off. "How do you even make candy? Is it like… making medicinal tablets? Er… and by that I mean I do everything up to boiling them in a solvent; I wet the powder and roll it into little pills before baking them." Capsule wanted to smack herself in the face. Perhaps she should have tried making tablets, instead? Well, that would give Caer something to try, either way.

| SubclassChefToolsCooking Utensils SkillTongue of NatureRecipeResearch While Hrairoo relaxed to a comfortable position on top of his tamer’s head, Caerbannog placed an iron pot upon the open fire which she successfully created. She set the heat low enough just so it would heat up the pot without burning its bottom, and then the chef turned to the pharmacist. The girl did remember their crafting adventures in Sarum but due to many things happening at once, she’d forgotten which processes led to the creation of healing potions. Pharmacists, after all, were able to create both curing and noxious things. Did it depend solely on the ingredients used, or did the steps undertaken to craft each item also affect the final outcome? Perhaps a little bit of both.
To confirm what she thought she knew about crafting potions, the chef watched Capsule closely while the pharmacist worked on her craft. Like their crafting at Sarum, the redhead worked with her blade and herbs. Caerbannog noted that the pharmacist used only herbs as her main ingredient unlike cooking which involved all kinds of fruits, vegetables, meat and other animal produce. The steps undertaken to prepare the ingredients were not unlike the chef’s methods, and the succeeding process was similar to cooking meals as well. But the end result, of course, was not a dish but a potion which had a pretty generic appearance much like the small bottles of liquid with various color seen normally in RPGs.
“Pastilles use gelatin powder but…hmm…” the girl stared at the potion.
She knew that herbs usually had a distinct taste, some were bitter while other just had an earthy aftertaste. That was exactly why children did not like them, much like how children in the real world disliked medicine. If they were to make the research work as intended, then the herby taste of the potion component should be overpowered by the sweet or fruity component. It probably would not be removed completely, but if the pastille tasted more fruit than herb, then it would probably be acceptable. So, instead of the usual jelly or gelatin powder, the chef could instead use fruits that had a similar effect on the final product. Being in the European server, Caerbannog was able to haul at least one such kind of fruit item: red currants. She took it out of her inventory and laid them out on the work table away from the area where Capsule had her things.
“Make pastilles this way… potion will be liquid part, then use currants for solid part, add sugar and something else for taste,” the chef explained, “But even with currants, pastilles will be done with trial and error. When we cook, can either get fruit pastilles... or jam...”
Caerbannog then laid out some common fruits that she had in her inventory: apples, cranberries and grapes were laid out beside the currants which all could be the ‘solid’ part of the food-medicine item. Blueberries, cherries, apricots and strawberries were then laid out on the other side, something that she referred to as ‘just for taste, not make solid part’. Ideally, the liquid and solid parts should be added as equal parts. The chef put three small bowls on the work table to be used for measuring the ingredients, and then she motioned for Capsule to empty the bottle of potion into a bowl. Once that was done, the pharmacist could pick the solid and flavoring parts of the recipe. Caerbannog herself chose currants because they were the most plentiful amongst what she had, but the market was just a short distance away and they could get more fruits if none of those were to the redhead’s liking.

It reminded the Enchanter of her mother, who used to park Capsule in one of those contraptions that allowed a toddler to wheel themselves around, but not climb out of. She would sit there in her corner when she wasn't scooting around, and just watch her mother prepare meals for the family. Sometimes, if she made enough fuss and bounced in her seat, mother would allow her to sample the current dish, often leaving her a spare spoon to suck on. A good deal of their meals back then were soup or stew based, or so it seemed to the then baby Capsule. Solid food was not something she had an easy time getting down at that age, after all.
The sound of Caerbannog's voice broke Capsule from her reverie. "Pastilles, eh?" So that's what they called candied medicine. 'Pasties' sounded loads better than "candied medicine," the latter of which Capsule would avoid like the plague if she were a child. Candy and medicine mixed together did not sound pleasant - not one bit. "Where are we going to find gelatin?" She could not hide the tiny smile on her face. Last time she'd checked, gelatin came from things like ground up horse hooves, and she was unsure if Caerbannog was willing to kill a horse for its hooves or go digging through the remains of discarded horses. Or Crag Cows. They weren't horses, but they have hooves, right? 'Bleh. No way…' There was only so much that Capsule was willing to do, and killing a horse or cow for their feet was definitely not one of them.
Her complexion paler than usual, Capsule pressed a hand to her mouth and followed Caer's movements with her eyes. That was a lot of fruit - 'Oh, strawberries!' She would have been happy to shove more than a few into her mouth, but these were for their research, not consumption. "I see… I think so, anyway." Cooking wasn't exactly her forte; that was her mother's domain, and Capsule could never follow her mother's recipes to a "T". It was part of the reason her eating habits back home were poor, though not so much that she was able to put on weight. How this would all work was absolutely beyond her, but she trusted Caerbannog's abilities. "All right."
She blew out the flames in her flower pot, and gently stirred the contents of the beaker within with a thin spoon. The potion should be ready now, and was to be distributed into the bowl that Caer had set out for it. The healing potion lightly steamed as it was poured into the bowl, shifting from a dark green to a slightly lighter color. Next, she set her sights on the assortment of fruit, as did her greedy little rabbit, Fiver. "Gimme yummy fruit, Kappa." He lifted a paw into the air, much like a rabbit version of Oliver Twist.
"No," she muttered as she examined the fruit.
"Caerbannog! Gimme fruit," he demanded.
Capsule tuned out the begging rabbit to pick out her fruit combinations. "Apples and strawberries for one, cranberries and blueberries for another, and… apples and cherries. I prefer the first two combos, though I would suggest cranberries and blueberries if I had to choose between them. They would make a sweet and sour combination, ne? The bitterness and sweetness could cover up the medicinal flavor… I’m guessing. Apples are a little too subtle for taste, in my opinion, even if they would make a good base." She fell silent, afraid that only rambling would come out if she continued on.

| SubclassChefToolsCooking Utensils SkillTongue of NatureRecipeResearch Fruits, drugs and sugar. Lots of sugar. Caerbannog took out a large metal mixing bowl from her inventory and put it on the work table, and then she put a mountain of sugar in the container. More than just a sweetener though, sugar would also serve to combine the flavor of each fruit in the combination. The chef then grouped the fruits according to Capsule’s choices for Caerbannog herself would eat anything as long as it was sweet. With Capsule’s permission, she put the healing potion in the heated iron pot and it was enough to cover the bottom to about an inch of the cooking implement.
With a chopping board and a paring knife, Caerbannog began to peel the apples by turning each one around in her hand and running the blade just a little beneath their skin. Next, she cored them as well which took out a sizable chunk from the middle of eat bright red fruit. She snickered at Fiver’s demand for some food and when Capsule refused the rabbit his wants, the samurai gave the apple peels to the fluffy creature. After she diced the apples, the wolf-hair gave a piece to Fiver and one to Hrairoo who gently tugged his tamer’s hair for attention. Caer was really bad at refusing anyone or anything, apparently; even rabbits could demand things from her. Anyway, the rest of the diced fruit was tossed into the iron pot along with half a cup of sugar and she mixed the ingredients using a wooden spoon. Once the apples were completely covered with the healing potion, the chef left it to simmer while she went back to the work table.
While the apples were being boiled to a base for the pastilles, the chef started to work on the strawberries. She wanted to explain to Capsule that aside from the order in which the pharmacist had stated the combinations, it was ideal to start with the apple-strawberry mix since both fruits had high water content and would take the longest to simmer down. They would also be more difficult to balance with regards to adding sugar while keeping the taste of the fruits and so if the pair could make that first batch work, then the rest of the combinations could be easily done. But all Caer breathed out was silence as she removed the green tops of each strawberry and diced them to small parts. Much leveling but still she could not articulate properly- ah well, maybe further in her career she would open up.
A pile of strawberries was soon formed in a bowl which the chef then emptied into the simmering iron pot. She did not neglect to leave one large fruit each for the frenmic rabbits and when she was done handling food items, Caerbannog gave a strawberry to Fiver and another one to Hrairoo. The latter ate his share greedily in just two bites and then he demanded more from his tamer. The chef looked up to Roo with a frown followed by a pat to the head as they waited for the fruit mix to be simmered thoroughly into a mixture that resembled fruit jam. Every now and then, Caer poked the mix with her wooden spoon to check its consistency, making sure that it was not too dehydrated. Too little water would make the mixture very sticky, difficult to work with and difficult to eat. Too much water would make the fruit mix runny and impossible to shape, but it would do well as spreadable jam.
Another poke with her wooden spoon revealed that the mixture was ready since the spoon bounced off slightly but still buried itself in the fruit mix when enough force was applied. Caerbannog put out the fire using dirt to remove its air component without adding moisture to the fuel, so that she could still light it up later. The chef rinsed the chopping board and patted it dry with a dish towel, as anyone who worked with food ought to have such implements, and then Caerbannog took up the iron pot and slowly emptied its contents onto the board. She put just enough of the mixture to create a small reddish puddle as colored by the strawberries, and then the girl set the half-full pot down on the table.
With a spatula covered with sugar, the chef began to even out the surface of the mixture which sat upon the chopping board until it became a rectangular piece. She watched the sides if they would bleed over the edge of the board which would mean that their mixture was too watery, and indeed, it slowly inched out much to the chef’s dismay. But before the mixture spilled completely off the board, it stopped and so the girl had to wonder if she could accept that as a success or if she should put the rest of the mixture over the fire once again.
“A bit runny but... might as well try,” the wolf-hair finally spoke to Capsule as she handed a sugar-covered knife to the pharmacist, “I put half-sugar in mix only because we need to coat things with it to prevent stickies. So the rest of sugar comes from cutting and coating the pastilles.”
The mixture which sat in all its slightly runny rectangular glory was about half an inch high. The chef let the pharmacist cut up the thing into rectangles or squares as she preferred, while the wolf-hair herself took out two bowls: one with sugar for rolling the sweets in, the other empty in which the finished pastilles would be deposited.

That… was a shit ton of sugar. Did they really need this much? Sure, she liked candy as much as anyone else, but she also liked not having diabetes or sugary sweet red blood. 'It's not like she's going to dump it all into one batch, anyway. It's just…' Wait, how did she even carry around so much sugar? Surely there was a limit on how much powder (not that kind of powder!) could keep on them at all times. 'I bet she's a sugar peddler.' Caerbannog, the sugar mule. She could have gone on and on about how illegal this all surely was, but darling little Caer Bear was asking for the healing potion. "Oh! Right. Here you are." She carefully pulled the still warm beaker from its flower pot and handed it over to Caerbannog for safe keeping. The contents of the healing potion were then poured into Caer's pot, where it appeared to coat the bottom. The next few steps greatly intrigued Capsule, who tried not to peek over Caer's shoulder too much. Was she just going to mix in the sugar and fruit together, in one big gloopy mess? "Oh, I see…" Core and dice the apples, of course! It would be silly to just chuck everything in whole. There was a soft squeak at her feet as Fiver darted forward to greedily seize the apple peels from Caer. "Thank you, Caer! Capsule is selfish." If the rabbit could, he'd be blowing raspberries at her right about now. Instead, he just took his time nibbling his peel, his little nose turned in a cocky angle. Yeah yeah, she was the bad guy here. "Just don't take advantage of her kindness, understand?"Fiver tilted his head from side to side, and even threw up his paws in feigned exaggeration. "Capsule, please. I know how to treat a lady, alright?" Somehow she had her doubts. "What are you giving me that look for?! I always let the ladies nab the cowslip first if there is one. Does love cowslips." Somehow she had expected him to say "bitches" instead of "does." The rabbit did an acrobatic neeping pirouette when a plump and juicy strawberry was handed to him. Oh, how he loved fresh fruit; strawberries were just one of his favorites. "Caer," the rabbit said in-between bites. "If you were a female rabbit and I had you successfully cornered… I'd let you go." Rabbit "romance" was weird as hell, and Capsule wanted nothing to do with it. Did he seriously think that did not come off as a bit… rapey? "I wouldn't violate you in this corner. Fiver, please. At least he wasn't a dolphin. She decided that watching the pot of fruit and other sticky substances was a better idea. Yeah, look at that fruit breakdown and mingle with the healing potion. It was a mawfuggin' kiki in this joint. The apples and strawberries were close friends, but the potion was invited by the pot, who owned this bumping joint. The pot figured that segregation was some weak ass shit, and the potion could really stand to gain some social points. It was a win win situation for all parties involved. Yes, Capsule was that bored, but now that she'd gotten started, she could not stop herself from daydreaming about the little scenario in her head. And then the popo came to break up the party (which was Capsule’s way of saying that Caer spilled the contents of the pot onto the chopping board). Just look at that neeped up crime scene. What sick bastard would slaughter the fruit and potion?! It seemed unlikely that they would be able to have open casket funerals now. Capsule lightly shook her head as she watched the officers (the spatula) collect the corpses and neatly deposit them outside the crime scene for retrieval, but not without first drawing chalk outlines around the bodies. What a tragedy. To think that hate crimes still existed… disgusting. A knife was handed over to Capsule. It was this knife that would be dissecting what little remained of the bodies, to remove their internal organs and ship them off to be donated to fruits or potions on need of transplants. Oh, look – this one had donated his body to science. Cutting these sons and daughters up made the Enchanter a little sad, but it needed to be done. Her practice of chopping things up as a Pharmacist came in handy, for she did a neat job of it. Their empty, square husks were to be handed over for Caer’s inspection, who would then proceed to what was likely the final step: dressing them up for their funerals (coating them in sugar).

That was what Hrairoo thought when Caerbannog kept handing fruits over to him and to Fiver. He loved his tamer! Fiver did not seem to be getting along as well with Capsule, but that was none of Roo’s business. The other frenmic rabbit’s next few lines were his business though... did he just hit on the samurai? The brown-furred rabbit’s eyes widened as he looked down at Fiver, but not due to disgust. He feared for his fellowman’s life. A minute passed, and then two, and then some more but still Caerbannog continued with her cooking. Hrairoo breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that his tamer was rather dense with regards to such things.
Once the pastilles were cut up and ready to be coated with sugar, Caerbannog rolled around a few of them at a time in the mountain of white granules. They managed to stay all nice and solid-ish, so that was a good start. Would they retain their shape if picked up? Caerbannog took one pastille and stared at it for a while; it did not bend over or drip to the ground, so next, she had to give it a taste test. The chef popped the first pastille into her mouth and immediately noticed the sweetness of the sugar. But as she chewed on the pastille, the fruity taste burst out mixed with only a hint of the potion’s taste.
“Try it?” the wolf-hair said as she offered one to Capsule.
Though it was made of fruits and a medicinal potion, Caerbannog did not think it a good idea to hand over a pastille to Roo even when the rabbit pawed at her forehead. The amount of sugar was tolerable for someone like her and probably for Capsule too. But the rabbits were smaller creatures which might be adversely affected by the amount of sweets. With the first batch done and quite a success, the chef then turned to the pharmacist for guidance.
“Want chef to be able to make this, and pharmacist to be able to cook,” Caer started, “Can teach me about health and mana potion? What herbs, how long to boil?”
The chef absent-mindedly popped another pastille into her mouth. If she wasn’t careful, the whole pile would be gone before their research was over. And while that was not such a big problem, they’d have nothing to compare to if ever the pair got around to making the other flavors of the medicinal pastilles. Hrairoo pawed at Caerbannog’s forehead again, but the girl simply poked his nose.
“Too much sugar, bad!” the girl said in English as she was still unused to toggling the Tongue of Nature skill.
Caerbannog at least remembered to put the pastilles into an empty bowl, but not before she took around piece and casually ate it.

The poor little pastilles were being rolled about in Caer's cocaine sugar trail. Perhaps it was only her imagination, but were some of them coughing, sneezing and giggling? Weren't they supposed to be dead? Capsule simply decided that they were either vampires, since they were not trying to gnaw through Caer's finger tips like a brain craving zombie. The sugar was clearly too much for them to handle. 'They're like children who can't stomach their sugar,' she thought with a slight shake of her head.
That head shake ceased as her mouth gaped open in horror - Caerbannog was going to eat one of them! Capsule clasped a hand to her mouth in an overly dramatic display, unable to pry her eyes away from the gruesome sight. The high pastille in Caer's jaws merely giggled as it was jostled around in the girl's mouth. If it wasn't dead before, it certainly would be now. 'Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.'
Fiver head butted her shin when Caer offered a pastille to taste. "Um, sure…" Fiver stared up at her expectantly. Hah! Did he seriously think that she would let him take a nibble of the sugary treat? She did not boop the rabbit on the head like she wanted to as she reached for the pastille. It was softly screaming something at her, probably pleading with her to show mercy. "Auf Wiedersehen," she said before popping the pastille into her mouth. It was fruity and sweet, all right, but the healing potion coated within was subtle. "Mmph. This is good. You can barely taste the medicine within the healing potion." That was a very good thing. Anyone who did not know any better might not suspect the pastilles of hosting a healing benefit.
She nodded as Caer explained her goal and asked about health and mana potions. It would be cool if they could make pastilles that regenerated mana, too. Mana was, in Capsule’s honest opinion, a horrible thing to the taste buds. It was part of the reason she had neglected to sample her researched mana potion. "Hm," she started. "It kind of depends. Any medicinal herb will do, basically, as long as they can be ingested, anyway. Mana potions are similar, but they require, well, mana shards. As for boiling, I generally do it for about five to ten minutes, and then let it simmer if it’s allowed to boil long. You want it to be a little thick, ya know? It's no good if it's too watery." She absentmindedly popped another pastille into her mouth, ignoring the soft cries of pain and fear. "Making a mana potion is basically the same as making a health potion, bar the added mana shard step." Was she rambling now? It sounded like she was rambling now. "I have a mana potion in my inventory, if you want to give it a go?" It wasn't like she would need it anytime soon… she hoped so, at least.

| SubclassChefToolsCooking Utensils SkillTongue of NatureRecipeResearch The frenmic rabbit’s happiness was short-lived. Hrairoo thought that he could have some of those fruity-smelling little things that his tamer crafted, but all he got was a scolding. Or at least that was how it sounded like to the brown rabbit. Fiver did not seem all too happy about the development either, but unlike Capsule’s rabbit, Roo was not as vocal or determined. And so Caerbannog was able to continue her research in peace, or in as much peace as the other frenmic rabbit allowed. She looked at up Capsule as the pharmacist sampled a pastille and she was visibly happy when the redhead seemed to like it.
When Capsule explained the ingredients needed for creating potions, Caer nodded to her up until mana shards were mentioned. The chef had no idea as to what they looked like, but from the name she could of course deduce that they were shards of... well, mana. Although mana was aetherial in form, she did not think it impossible for them to take on a solid form which thus can be shattered or cut up to shards. Notably, the potion had to be a little thick. To Caer, that sounded something like jelly-juice which was a peculiar drink that was popular among kids back in Japan. It was not the usual high-glucose sweet drink, but something flavoured and textured by fruity jelly. Since it was boiled, it would probably be warm. So... potions were warm, semi-thick drinks...
“What does mana taste like?” asked little Caer, for she’d never tried to look for mana that she could eat or drink.
The chef accepted the offered potion which she put down on the work table. If mana had a peculiar taste, then she would have to mask it with something that had a flavour stronger than apples and strawberries. Capsule’s second suggestion of cranberry and blueberry mix was ideal for that, Caer thought. And it was much easier to prepare as well. Unlike apples and strawberries which had to be chopped up into workable pieces for them to be evenly cooked, cranberries only had to be rinsed, drained and then boiled. The wolf-hair prepared the iron pot and emptied the bottle of mana potion into it, along with a heap of sugar. She then waited for the liquid to bubble slightly and once it did, Caer put two handfuls of cranberries into the pot. She waited until the color of the liquid change, signifying that the berries had ‘bled out’ into the mana potion.
With the cranberry sauce almost ready, Caerbannog took to rinsing the blueberries which she had to do gently, otherwise the things would pop in her hands. She let them stand for a while to get rid of excess water, and once that was done, the little blue heads were thrown into the bubbling pot of red goo. Every once in a while, Caer mixed the squishy thing to combine the berries and the mana potion, and also to prevent it from being burned by the pot’s heat. As the blueberries vanished into the cranberries, a purplish hue was created and it looked a bit like the color of an overripe blueberry or an artificially-colored grape candy. A few more minutes in the iron pot and it was ready to be taken out for the final process of cutting up and rolling in more sugar. The mixture had slightly more sugar in it than what the apples and strawberries mixture had, but it was intentionally made that was to offset the strong flavors of the berries.
Once again, Caerbannog asked for the enchanter to help her with cutting up and rolling the pastilles around in sugar. This time, she let Capsule shape the pastilles as she wanted and also waited for the other adventurer to try the fruity things first. Hrairoo was, once again, not allowed to put his little paws on the sweets as it might upset his tummy.

In hindsight, maybe she should have? She had no idea how mana intensive Samurai were, though, so it may be that Caer had had no use for mana potions. It made sense, really. "Hmm… How does mana taste…? It doesn't taste bad, but it's a little metallic, I guess? I can't really explain it. It is strong enough that you will want to mask it, though." It was advice that Caer apparently took to heart, for she began making a new batch with Capsule's previously suggested cranberry and blueberry mix. The color and taste would mesh well with the mana potion used.
Capsule continued to watch Caer in silence as the shorter girl prepared the mixture. All of this cooking was really starting to make her hungry. The color and texture reminded her of rote Grütze, a German desert. She flicked her tongue across her lips as the smell drifted towards her. It smelled so good… Capsule squirmed in place, now eager to sample the completed project. Fiver reacted similarly, thumping a hind paw in anticipation. Ha! Did he really think that he would be allowed to have a taste? The sugar would be too much for him to handle. This particular batch contained more sugar than the first, after all.
The redheaded perched on the edge of the bench, twiddling her thumbs and feeling like a little kid hanging around the kitchen for a sweet snack from mother's oven. She craned her head up to peek into Caer's pot, the contents of which were now a shade of purple. That color and the eventual shape of the soon to be mana based pastilles reminded her of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One of the characters, a girl spoiled rotten, stole a piece of gum while Wonka wasn't looking, and was transformed into a giant blueberry. Capsule had enough time to wonder if such a thing were possible in this world.
Next thing she knew, Capsule was being recruited into cutting and rolling more pastilles to be. This time there was no daydreaming about the sweet food being sentient beings. She had a job to do here, and the sooner she got it done, the sooner they could test the product. Things seemed to go faster and neater because of this, and the redhead rewarded herself with a single pastille for her effort. "Mmm. It's tart and sweet all at once. I can barely taste the mana potion within it, so I doubt anyone else would unless they actually knew what to look for.” She offered one to Caerbannog for inspection. At her feet, Fiver grumbled and thumped his paws against the ground.

| SubclassChefToolsCooking Utensils SkillTongue of NatureRecipeResearch Not knowing how mana tasted like, Caerbannog could only try to look for something peculiar when she took a bite out of the pastille that was handed to her. To her, it only tasted of cranberry and sugar with a hint of blueberry, so that was probably for the best; their goal was to make medicine likable to everyone anyway. Like potions, the pastilles which they created were also meant to be taken sparingly and preferably as a last resort. The sweetness of the food item could probably make sure of that as adult adventurers and landers were usually not keen on eating too much sweets, with the exception of people like Caerbannog. Children, on the other hand, could eat the medicinal item to their hearts’ content and end up with nothing more than a fat belly and a toothache in severe circumstances. But Caerbannog expected for parents to supervise their children, of course, and let them eat the pastilles only when necessary.
“Both batches turned out well so I guess we won’t need a third one...” the chef said as she began to separate her half of the pastilles from Capsule’s portion.
Four small bowls were in front of her: the ones to her left contained the HP pastilles and the MP pastilles for her own usage, while the ones to her right contained Capsule’s share. It would take a while to sort the items without squishing them, and so if the pharmacist offered to help, Caerbannog would allow it. The research had gone long enough without them noticing it, but cooking both food and potions took time as always and beyond that area where they conducted their questionable studies, the streets were already less busy.
Upon Caerbannog’s head, Hrairoo had fallen asleep and so the chef unsummoned the frenmic rabbit to afford it some rest. For a moment, she considered summoning Hyzenthlay to give the enemic buster a piece of fruit, but one look at Fiver reminded her of that rabbit’s antics around females of his species. Though her logic was odd at times, the wolf-hair was still considerate of those around her; a struggle between Fiver and Hyzenthlay would surely not please Capsule, and so Caer refrained from calling forth the buster.
Caerbannog merely continued to sort the pastilles up until nothing else could be sorted. She kept her portion away and let Capsule take her half of the prize. Did any of them care to write it all down? The chef could remember the steps, though she did wonder if just any health or mana potion would work or if it had to be something crafted specifically by the red-haired pharmacist. It wouldn’t hurt to request a crafted item, right?
“Could I buy one each of those potions from you?” was the samurai’s question before they had to part ways, unless of course Capsule had something else in mind.

That meant that their research was a success, and like the chef stated, a third batch would be unnecessary. This was a good thing, for the day was really getting ahead of them, and while Capsule had nothing in particular to attend to, she could not say the same of Caer. The little Samurai always seemed to be on the run, levelling up and exploring. 'You'll catch up some day,' she thought with wry amusement. Maybe. She was in no great hurry, and did not imagine that Enchanters were high in demand either. Of all the Adventures she'd ran into during her stint here in Elder Tale, Capsule could only list three other Enchanters.
"I bet the kids will be eating this stuff up like candy," she said as she moved to help Caerbannog sort out the pastilles into two of the bowls provided for her. She took these to be her fair share of the health and mana pastilles. Fiver nudged her leg once more, and this time she gently shoved the rabbit back with the toe of her boot. He was such a silly rabbit. Perhaps something could be made specifically for tamed familiars, but she was certain she'd seen research for that already put up somewhere.
Capsule bounced two pastilles in the palm of her hand for a few seconds, and then popped them into her mouth at the same time. The contrasting flavors made the taste buds on her tongue tingle in excitement. "Mmph. Delicious~!" Making and selling these pastilles just might make her business increase. Who couldn't resist something sweet every once in a while? Well, adults maybe, but the younger crowd was more than likely to eat them up, especially the kids. "This was a really good idea, by the way." It was also very practical, unlike some of Capsule's planned research ideas.
She continued helping Caer until all four bowls were full, and carefully stored her two within her inventory, for safe keeping. Move over, medicinal formula and tablets! These yet to be named sweets were sure to be the next big thing. She blinked and snapped herself out of future planning when Caer posed a question. "One of each, eh? Sure. The medicinal formulas aren't as filling as the tablets, anyway." She would have to make another mana potion later, seeing as how she'd given her only one to Caer for research. Whoops. They were easy to make at least, so it wasn't like it would be hard or anything. "I'll get those to you ASAP, alright?"
It was time for them to part ways, and with her tools now packed up, Capsule did just that, but not without giving Caer's Frenmic Rabbit a light pat on his sleeping head. The poor thing must have been tuckered out by all of the excitement from today. Fiver, on the other hand, was full of energy.
