| | Monk Needed
|
Out of all the main classes, Caerbannog found the monk to be a rather curious class. Instead of traditional weapons, they used their bodies and fists as tools of violence. The samurai did like punching things so she understood why such a class would be thrilling, but she did wonder if their hands never hurt from all the beating that it took. The wolf-hair would have asked the monks that she knew, but they were all busy with one thing or another which was not unexpected because ADVENTURE! And so instead of bothering the people that she knew, Caerbannog did something that she rarely ever did: she put up a request on the quest board at Londinium. It read:
Monk needed for questionable experimentation. Look for Caerbannog at St.Pancras Station. Reward: 50,000 gold
Okay, maybe she should have thought that through. Well, the experiment -was- questionable at best because monks did not even seem to need any weapons, but perhaps a better choice of wording could have been used. Still, this is Clueless Caer we’re talking about here. She did not think badly of the word; she was just being overly blunt. Perhaps some kind or curious monk would take up the quest. It was, after all, to be conducted in public anyway. It’s not as if Caerbannog was going to cut off his hand and replace it with a sawed-off shotgun, or massive gardening scissors.
Speaking of Caerbannog, she rented the blacksmith stall of her ever-reliable lander friend once again. The word ‘friend’ was used loosely by both, since one only rented out the place for coin, and the other rented the place only for convenience. Then again, that was how the real world turned and that’s how Elder Tale turns as well. Similarly, the request that Caerbannog put up was of the very same principle. She needed a monk to test out some clawed weapons that she had in mind which would be far more intricate than what she so far had created for Elkeid and the dwarf. In return, she would pay the monk for his time; fifty thousand gold and no less.
The schoolgirl samurai change her outfit to simple black overalls with a grey tank top, smithing gloves and brown leather boots. If she was going to work in front of the forge again, she might as well use the appropriate gear. It was difficult to move around in a blouse and a skirt while she was all tired and sweaty due to the heat of the coal. As for the forge in question, it was all fired up and ready to be used. Her ores and tools were laid out on the work bench, and all that was needed now was a monk who could be questioned about his class’ strengths, weaknesses, needs and requirements. The day was only beginning and Caerbannog had all the time in the world. Trapped in Elder Tale, she had slowly accepted that it was her new reality though she had not forgotten the old one.

Aww yeah. This should be a nice day. I take my first day off from the usual workshop where I have been working these days, strolling around aimlessly following the city’s road, curious if I can find something interesting to do. Not that free day off since I have done such two days work for Lander in one day, so it’s some kind of reward. Actually, that was just my excuse since grandgrand kind of ignore me. (Yawn) after working for a while, I feel great to finally enjoy my free day after work, but it kind of somewhat empty since there is no specific thing I can do. I take a walk around a new area. I never been here before, so I am a bit intrigued to know more about the area. So far, it’s fun. I enjoy the scenery around with landers, adventurers, and stuffs. Yep, it’s just the usual view similar to what I have seen before, but this is still new area. The idea of the new area itself made me feel more relaxed. Although there is one part from this area that rather pick my attention. It’s a quest board, with many adventurers crowding around it. I think I have seen similar board somewhere else, but I cannot recall where.
I change my course toward the board, rather intrigued if I can actually pick something interesting. I stand as close as I can without pushing my way through the crowd, I don’t have to, since I can see the words clearly from where I stand. With just several ball of hairs separating me from the board, it can be done quite easily. Hmm, the quests posted here are rather vary. From simple casual thing to dangerous combat. I try to pick something unique since it will be fun rather than just usual fighting. Well, fighting is good, pumping my adrenaline and stuff. Moreover if I am facing unknown fearful enemy, not an enemy that I can calculate if I can win easily or lost easily. Or when I want to try different technique. Yeah, that will be awesome even if I just end up facing a rather same enemy. But, not for today. Today I want something relaxing but somewhat still exciting. What should I pick. My eyes scanning through the quests to find something matched my description, but in the end I don’t find any of such thing. Normal quests are just too normal, and fighting quests is still more adrenaline pumping which is what I try to evade with my best. Meh, maybe I am too biased because I actually want to pick fighting quests. Well then, at least I should pick something different from normal.
I scan thorough the quests again with more careful. This time I encounter one quest which specifically stating that someone need a monk. Hmm, what does he want to do with monk. Perhaps, for battle? I grinned thinking about possible things I can do in this request. Yeah, bashing some monsters with skills always been an interesting way to relax some tense. It’s like picking a game on rest time. Wait, we are on a game world. So, it’s basically a relaxing work. However the title kind of made me curious. Which is also why I think I should pick this one, since there is possibility it will be different from normal fight I have been through so far. Alright, I will do it. The question now will be, how to get there. I ask the adventurers around but, meh, no one gives me clear destination. Although there is some adventurers that suggest me to just try coming to pancras area and ask people around there. Well, I don’t think I have any other choices. With that, I start moving.
I spot a carriage with broken wheel in my way searching the place. I decide to talk to the man who seems to be the carriage driver “what happened?” the man turn his face toward me and instantly made big ‘O’ with his mouth “Ooooh, isn’t it the usual adventurer who work as porter?” hmm? Was he from there? Well, doesn’t matter right now, even I actually want to prolong the topic so I may find if there is any new info from him. it always good to get new info from every new person. “Eheheh, yeah, maybe we have meet before” I point to the wheel “so, what happened?” he shift his gaze toward my pointing direction and quickly facing me back again “ohoho, a couple thing. Doesn’t matter right now” hmm, what a shady reason is that. Well, not my business. “So, what do you plan with it?” I walk closer to the wheel, and bend my body for a better look “I thought of bringing it to the woodcrafter and blacksmith workshop, but it seems I cannot even move the carriage” “Oh, then do you know this place…” I quickly tell the location as stated in the quest board to him. “Well, I know…” “then, would you show me the way? I think I can provide quick repair for this wheel for a while for exchange” he look at me for moment, then makes his ‘meh’ expression. I just smile and nodding, and then shift my focus back to the wheel. The wheel is made from wood as it’s base, and it’s coated with plate irons all over the surface, except the area where the wheel connected to its hub. The design of wheel in this era usually doesn’t have proper bearing like in modern day, so the broken part usually happened on the bottom of carriage where it grinded by the wheel’s hub. However, that’s not the case with this wheel. One of it’s wooden rim is broken, so it’s on the verge of breaking all the wheel if the driver forcing his way with this much of damage. I cannot fix the breaking wood, since the right method should be done by the woodcrafter by replacing the wooden rim, but I think I can still repair the iron plates around it so at least the carriage can arrive easily to woodcrafter’s workshop. I start collecting any material around, and activating my new skill –Speed Forge– to fix it. In not so much time with couple of works, the wheel has been partially fixed. “You can move now, but don’t carry too much heavy things” I shout to the driver. He seems happy with my works and just laugh in awe “ohohohohoho, thank you. Thank you very much” I just nod and bend my body ”well, then should we move?” I am back to my stance and clean my palms “sure”.
Although the driver keep teasing me along the way so I can jump into the carriage and relax my back while he driving, I insist to keep walking since I don’t know how long the wheel can stand, considering the road is not smooth and my weight doesn’t help much. After not so long times, I arrived at my destination. I wave my hand to the driver and say goodbye. That was quick encounter, but I am still happy since I can do something with my skill. Now, the quest. I start looking around the place for any Landers or object that indicate the quest as usual, but it seems I cannot find such things. My eyes scanning the area with careful, and then I spotted someone. Although she is not a lander, I rather interested with what she currently do. A blacksmith like me? for some strange reason I decide to ask her for the quest “excuse me umm…” I don’t know how to call her properly “I am a monk, so…” I thought it will be strange to ask about something so unrelated “do you know someone around here who put the request on quest board?” ah, was that bad choice of words? I hope she know what I mean.

| | A Monk is...?
|
While she waited for a kind adventurer who would accept her request, Caerbannog sat on the work bench and swung her legs beneath her as her feet barely touched the ground. She watched the passers-by at the increasingly busy St. Pancras Station. Days usually started out slow and this day was no different; the blacksmith soon put her elbows on the table with her hands up to her face, as her chin rested in her palms. The area was full of blacksmith stalls but there was little competition for an adventurer like her. Most of the crafters around were landers whose works were mostly subpar to hers, but they did make particularly good detailed work mostly due to experience. In contrast, Caerbannog had only tried her hand at smithing every now and then, between chef and animal trainer work. As a result, her works were mostly generic but sturdy and due to her adventurer status, she was able to create acceptably usable weapons and armor. Noting her level, the blacksmith made a mental note to reforge and upgrade her own equipment soon.
The arrival of a big fluffy kitty was timely, for she had begun to wonder if any adventurer accepted her request already. Caerbannog blinked a few times as the werecat approached her. Though the dwarf was no doubt the rarest of all in Elder Tale, the werecat was a close second. The samurai had only ever seen a few werecat adventurers, though admittedly if she had not been so lazy with her character creation, the girl would have made a fox tail or a werecat character. But instead, having thought practically about her class and race, Caerbannog created the wolf-hair whose body she inhibited now. This made her wonder how werecats felt since they looked drastically different from regular humans. Did they cough up furballs?
“Lots of quest on quest board,” was her answer to the werecat’s question, “I am Caerbannog.”
The quest did say to look for ‘Caerbannog’, and so the guessing game began. Was this adventurer able to read and pronounce that word correctly, or was he among the 90% of adventurers who were baffled by the name? While she waited for his reply, the blacksmith pulled up her interface to check the werecat’s available information. Name, class and level should have been obvious, unless he was able to hide it somehow. As for his race, that was obvious too... unless he was a fox tail in disguise.
“Is Neko-san here for experimentation?” the girl asked as she put her arms down, straightened her back and looked a little more serious than before, “Can tell me how monks fight? And basic monk skills?”
Though there was a monk in their guild, Caerbannog had never really taken the time to bother him with his business. And most of the time that they were together, she had sent that Aeryn monk flying through walls or windows and so she never noticed him actually fight. There was that one time in the Marshlands, but she kind of almost died there so the memory was hazy.

As the girl stated her name was Caerbannog, I suddenly remember about what written in the request. “Ah, well then. Sorry, I don’t realize it was you. Mwahahaha” I want to state about something… yeah, something… but it may rather inappropriate for someone I just meet. I have taken a look at her and noticed, that she reminds me of certain someone. Well, not ‘her’ grandfather. Ahem, I should concentrate on the quest more, since this is may already on the run. “Right, I am here for certain quest from Caerbannog” I pronounce ‘a’ as ‘i’ in ‘acquire’ and adding a bounce at ‘g’ in the end, made it somewhat sound like in different language. Maybe I just bring out my accent back then when I was in my village. I shift my gaze back to Caerbannog again, wondering if I pronounce it right. The air seems hot here, then I notice there some forging tools inside. So, this is indeed a blacksmith workshop, or at least that what it seems for me. I can’t help but think back about the last time when I start working with grandgrand. I am glad at least he has the furnace, anvil, and hammer. Although that should be obvious since he needs to run the workshop. I take my time looking around to learn something since I am currently on other’s working place. There may be some differences than where I usually work. I want to know if someone makes different result, so I may improve my blacksmith skill by learning from it. I am seeking for a parade of weapons and equipment with my eyes. There should be, one or two creations around since it is a workshop. I want to know about different design of weapons and equipment. It can be my reference when I am about to make mine. Even the variation inside grandgrand workshop itself is too many for mind to remember, however I cannot help but want to know more if there is another design that I may explore. I am still looking around. Then, I am looking at Caerbannog again. Her question pick my interest, but I still cannot relate it with the tittle of quest, which is ‘experimentation’. But that doesn’t matter right now, since I believe she will guide me through the quest. “We use our fist” I clench my fist and make it straight in front of me, facing the ceiling ”Because pummeling is good” I said that with wide grin. Have I answered her question right? I take a look at her expression for awhile. With this question I cannot help but think the quest will be something related with monk’s fist. Perhaps, a battle? Like fighting some rare monsters no one ever meet before? experimenting if monk fist alone can beat it? yeah, more likely. I start preparing myself for sudden combat, relaxing my muscles so I can find it will be easier to be calm when I fight. Just a thing that I usually do before fighting, since in real world. “Then, let me show you” I clench my right fist, and prepare it on my side. My fist starts glowing as I active the skill –Aura Saber–, I slam my fist to a shovel that currently laid on the wall and made it bent. Yeah, that’s good, it should give her some ideas about monk skill, whatever the purpose. However, I just realize that I was just broke other people’s property, and I quickly apologize. “Ah sorry, I will fix that later, ahahaha” I use my blacksmith skill –speed forge– again and gather material around to partially fix the shovel. I don’t know if the place was ‘skill free’ area before, but since I can active my skill, this should be ‘skill free’ area right now. I have heard about certain info that the owner of property can set the property for private use only or public. There is even the setting to only allow certain person to use skill, free for everyone, or restrict everyone. Looking at this place, I can check the ownership with opening the info panel, but I don’t do that now since I am too excited for where the experiment is heading. At least in my head. “So, want to see another move” I am heated up. Now that I have release one skill, my body begs to advances more. I should start the usual combo by now. Like when I was about to hunt some monsters for gold. It’s like a switch currently activated inside me, and made me enter my fighting mode. It,s like I can see target crosshairs in front of me. My mind focused on how to link combos after combos to beat the hell out of that target, and make me in peace. I feel the urges spreading through my body, sending the jolts of adrenaline throughout my spines, pushing my body, to move. I can’t see myself anymore, just my fists and the delusionary targets. It’s like myself stand on the ring, facing an opponent, an one on one, a PvP. I am ready to send punch after punch to him, while dodging the counters along the process. I am ready to give him the experience of being crashed by unlimited train. I am ready to slam myself to him so we can both explode in manly battle, beast to beast, gar to gar, drunk with our battle and forget about victory. The peace about solving fast puzzle itself relaxing our mind. The battle itself is the feast we want to attend. The happiness on the aftermath is not because one of us have more points than other, but because we have struggled, we have push our way, we have solved the puzzle, we have beating the hell out of opponent while giving him our all. That is what I try to hold right now. That is what currently boiling inside me. I am about to explode. I can’t help the urge rising, and start yelling loudly “Rraaaaawrrrr” I am running around in circle inside the place, made some loud noises along the way.

What an interesting day. First, the monk that took up her request turned out to be a werecat, one of the rarer races in Elder Tale. Second, he actually dared to use a skill while in town. The latter made Caerbannog look up and about for any incoming guards; nope, no guards. The girl made sure to stay away from the monk, just in case. And it wasn’t because she was afraid of getting hit, no... it was because a guard would drop in and cleave the monk in two if his skill actually hit anyone within the vicinity. But even with that in mind, the wolf-hair watched the display of strength and martial prowess which was shown by the werecat monk.
“Neko-san,” the blacksmith waved for lukavminaev’s attention, “Calm down a bit.”
She then nodded over to the landers in other stalls, both merchants, blacksmiths and customers; they were looking over the werecat and the wolf-hair with curious and slightly worried eyes. Their own stalls, after all, would probably be demolished if a guard dropped in on Saint Pancras Station. Caerbannog then stood up and took a stance as if she had a sword on her waist, and then she slowly drew an air-sword. The samurai started with her left hand on and imaginary saya, and her right hand on and imaginary hilt. She then drew it diagonally upwards to her front, away from the monk, and then she flicked her wrist to turn the air-blade towards her imaginary target.
“That’s how a samurai wields a sword,” the girl said as she put her left hand on the imaginary hilt as well. All of this she did slowly so that the werecat could see her movement, “Can show me how monks do it?”
While it seemed like a peculiar way to experiment, what the girl needed was a form of the werecat’s fist which could be the basis of a weapon. Since his class was different from the rest of the classes in that they would fight with just their fists, Caerbannog had to take a closer look at the monk’s movements. And to do so while still at Saint Pancras Station, the monk had to hold off from using his skills otherwise they might soon have the guards’ wrath upon them. Hopefully, Neko-san got the idea.
“Would it be better for you if we went outside Londinium?” Caerbannog asked the werecat as she sheathed her imaginary sword, “Skill demonstrations are risky in city, but I understand why you need to do them.”
Monks were much more physical than other classes, and rather literally too. They used their own bodies to fight with so it might have been difficult for the werecat to air-fight, or to hold back at all. But if they could find a middle ground, that would be great because the blacksmith wanted to start working on the weapons as soon as she had an idea. It would depend on the monk and since he was also a blacksmith, perhaps he could chime in his own ideas too.

I almost have to think twice to understand the words from caerbannog, it was indeed normal word with softer pronunciation. But since I just can focus on my delusionary target, I need to recall it for the second time in my head until I understand the meaning. Perhaps, something I cannot explain has pulling me back to my sense. Well, I believe in my deepest humble self that I have weakness for certain thing, and that should be… something I rather not think of right now. It should be more than enough by me being lose control to show how I am just the usual normal cat and have nothing to be afraid of. I don’t have to show more shame by showing my fetish. Ahem, I should go back since Caerbannog seems about to demonstrates something. Maybe one of her move? I walk toward the scene and watch the overall move. She moves fairly nimble, which made me think she has become very experienced in combat. Perhaps high level? Since I don’t check her information panel yet. I don’t think I have to, since that shouldn’t be related to the current quest now. Well, I am a bit curious, maybe I will check later. I am myself don’t have that high of level, so I like watching how high leveled players fight since their joy and hardship may become my joy and hardship too when I level up. Like the monster I can challenge, area I can explore, quests I can take. All of that will be new experience when I leveled up, and I prefer to know about how people usually do beforehand if that thing happened to them. In leveling, I think that is normal.
Caerbannog suggesting if we can move outside londinum so I don’t mess things. Well yeah, that was indeed my fault, but there is something about the setting of this area, that suggests me to ask. “Hmm, is this related to blacksmith perhaps, since you choose this place?” there should be something behind that, or so I thought. Then it may be harder for us to continue the quest if we don’t have the right tool with us there. “Ah, it’s better if we can work near furnace” I suggest that we should be still here. Well, this is a quest from her so I just follow her final decision. I turn my head toward the landers and smile, are they afraid about what previously happened. I hope I don’t give them life trauma. Ah, I should apologize properly later, since Caerbannog may still need me for the quest. Now that I think about it, since she is a blacksmith and she need to see how monk will fight, I can’t help but think she may indeed planning to create something related for those two points. “Are you perhaps, want to create weapon for monk?” well, I may give her some opinions about it since it’s indeed related to the way I fight as a monk in general. Will it moves us to the next part? I think I will get better understanding about the quest if I can understand that. Then, this will be semi-battle-trial since I still need to think about the battle even I don’t actually doing it. The recreation of battle itself is what made me think about her wanting to create the weapon for monk. “Oho, then Caerbannog want to create something like tonfa?” I can’t remember the exact name for that weapon. So, I just borrow the term from some player who seems acknowledge about those kind of weapon. “Or maybe, nunchaku?” I think both of them can be created by blacksmith, so I thought that maybe the answer she was looking for. The tonfa itself has complicated damage management in real life, since we can hit with the sort part directly to give a damage like an iron rod used like spear, while we can whip the long part to create damage like hitting with small iron rod. Other than that, it can be used for pinning down the enemy, since it a common weapon used by polices in real world. However, that should be the real world part, since when we are battling, most of the ruling around us is somewhat game mechanic, which give us advantage than ‘normal human’ in this world. Made us a really human weapon for killing monsters. Hmm, come to think about it, what determine the force of monk bare fist in normal human sense. “Ah, I think it is related to monk HP being the highest among other classes. You know, having more muscles means more powerful hit, mwahahahaha” I just relate the muscle thing with HP since some part of this game world doesn’t make any sense, so bare damage may gauged by HP rather than character appearance, and I don’t think using weapons need the same force as when someone punches his or her opponent hard. “And we can spam our ability when we get close to our opponent” that was what I did so far, getting close to enemy, spamming my physical damages, and giving several spices with skills between them. There is nothing much entertaining when it explained like that, since monk user usually like getting direct to the opponent without thinking too much about the beauty of skills. Also, I like bare hand fighting even in real life, so the battle itself is what giving me the variation and excitement. Maybe some part of it because it was become real and no longer game. So, I can enjoy fighting like it was in real life, a fight. Hmm, that’s all I can think about. Yeah, that should do. I don’t think debating is one of my character’s trait. I just let people do as they want, helping them if they are indeed falling to the pit, and let them still do as they want after it even if they only repeat the same mistake due to stubbornness since I don’t know if that behavior lead to good or bad thing. Hmm, so am I being helpful this time? I take a sit near one of lander who currently work near the furnace, looking at his method carefully if I can learn something new.

|
The wolf-hair waited for the monk to calm down and to answer her questions, and it seemed that he had questions of his own. Caerbannog settled down beside the work bench once again and sat upon a high stool so that she could reach her tools and materials. He had a round-about way of answering questions by mixing up their order. It was utterly confusing and difficult to digest, but anyway in the end, she got the answer that she needed. Indeed, the samurai had thought of making weapons for monks.
“Ah…nunchucks…” the blacksmith wondered out loud as she picked at the ingots which were beside the ores, “I guess that’s simple enough. Two bars, about a forearm’s length each and connected by an iron chain.”
Caerbannog hopped over to the werecat and she took out a measuring tape, something that tailors usually had for taking measurements. She motioned for the monk to put his arms horizontally in front of his chest and once he complied, the blacksmith would take note of the length of the forearms. In the real world, it was natural for the body to not have exactly identical measurements; sometimes a leg is a millimeter shorter than the other, or the arms or forearms would have a similar difference. If the monk’s measurements had difference too, then she would just take the shorter one and utilize it.
Once the measurements were taken, the wolf-hair went back to the work bench and looked over the steel and iron ingots. She would have to use the ores for the chain, but the bars could be forged using the ingots that she had prepared beforehand. Caerbannog stretched her arms over her head before she started: already she was getting bored of all the repetitive thinking that she had to do. But nothing would come of the experimentation if she was going to let her weariness of smithing take over her, and so the blacksmith set to work.
The wolf-hair took up one of the steel ingots using her smithing tongs, and then she put the ingot in the furnace. Her thick gloves prevented any chars or burns to appear in her hands as she waited for the piece of metal to turn to red hot color. Every half minute, Caerbannog turned the tong and the metal piece carefully over to another side so that she would be able to heat the material evenly. Due to the motions that she made, the rectangular ingot slowly became hotter evenly on all sides. She would need to strike as soon as it was sufficiently heated so that she could create its eight faces; the nunchucks (or nunchaku) that she knew of, after all, has octagonal cross-sections.
“What skill would you use with a tonfa or nunchuck?” the wolf-hair asked the werecat as she worked.
While she waited for the answer, which hopefully would be done in order this time so as not to make her head hurt, Caerbannog pulled the red hot ingot out of the furnace. She set it upon the anvil and with her smithing hammer, the blacksmith struck the steel ingot. One strike flatten a corner which created a pentagon out of the material, and with a few more strikes she would roughly have the form that she wanted the weapon to take.

I always love watching other blacksmith’s work. Maybe because blacksmiths can always discuss something related to metalworking process. It is easier to talk about related things since both side have same understanding, there will be always interesting topic to discuss. Also, the way other blacksmith working always made me curious. There always be some differences when blacksmith creating their craft, it shown in process. I don’t know, maybe that is a way for blacksmiths to differentiate their craft from others. Like fast food business war in real world, where every faction thinking to improve their product to become more desirable for customers. It is similar here. Well, as long there is no something, says one faction cannot creates better product and so badmouthing other factions, that will be the time when business becomes bad. Because what will be more bizarre than bad relations among the factions inside one city, while other city keep improving by working side by side with each other. Ah, that was bad metaphor. I just choose the way to improve by learning, and let others choose what they want. The blacksmith in front of me currently busy working on melting the materials. Hmm, molding. Are they like to use molding here? Or maybe, just this one? There are many methods to create weapons, but the usual important point is to shape, maintain hardness, and sharpness. Well, that is as far I can think by using real world method. Here where magic dwells like everyday myth, I can’t help but think that should open up the possibility to use the method I can never encounter in real life.
@dindeen moves around and takes measurement of my arm. I keep following her movement with my eyes, excited by the development. So, we come to main part then. I curious where this quest will lead me. I lift the other arm and position it side by side by the arm that currently measured by her. Since this character designed by my sister back then, I don’t know the detail of my own current body. I can still move around easily, so I don’t think about it very much. Although I have heard about the designing feature was good, someone can even make a character with unique and beautiful appearance, even the body can be modified to be extraordinary sexier. However, I never experience that myself. I just feel lucky that my sister knew my body very well, so I found it not hard to move around.
@dindeen seems agree to create one of the weapon I suggest. I don’t know if with this, her question will be answered. Will the quest concluded then? Well, I am glad I can help, at least with this one. I cannot wait to see the creation. I have been thinking about making similar weapon. It shouldn’t be hard. The handler can be supplied by woodcrafter. Two iron bars needed for the core of the handler, and then both of their end will be flattened. Add hooks on one of each handler’s end. The rest will be connecting overall weapon with chain. Well, that should be the basic one. Blacksmith tends to use different methods, except it will be used for manufacturing process. Then, the method we follow will be the well-known one that give better and faster result.
Some even say that blacksmith are artisan. To create good weapon need the heart to follow the flow of creating process, whatever method the blacksmith thought as the best. I am myself follow the worker path, where every method I see as process to gain the result. Tuning the material again and again until I can find the method that suitable for me. There is no ‘wonderful result’ or ‘famous creation’ in my working process. Although I still can be shy when someone praise my work. My main objective is not that glamorous. It’s only for self-satisfaction. So, that is way I can cope up well with working in grandgrand workshop. Although there still be a desire inside me to have my own workshop. Ah, that just a mere dream for now, since I only have small amount of gold.
I check surrounding while I can to learn about the collection of metalworking tools from blacksmiths here, and try to memorize them as much as I can. There are several tools that we don’t have in our workshop. I wonder if I can find them in market if I can tell grandgrand later to renew our tools. Or maybe I can instead suggest to try to make them by ourselves. Yeah, that shouldn’t be hard. I also think grandgrand would love my experiment. Since he never disagree with me so far. That will be easy when the tools made from metal. I cannot wait the opportunity to create them later in our workshop.
Our workshop is not that big one, so it’s normal to encounter other workshops have different tools than we do. There are already many variations even among street workshops like us. No wonder there are so many selection of weapons available, making them will require many unique tools. Moreover, all of these are just from street workshops. I wonder what I will encounter if I can go to personal workshop inside personal house or even guild workshop. I can’t help but think there will be many more tools I can encounter there, which created by adventurers. Since we came from real world, which already advanced in technology. I think, with the right method, we can transfer that knowledge into this world, so life will be easier.
“My skills? I think it should work well with ‘aura saber’. You know, hitting multiple targets with one sweep” I make a wide grin after saying that. the skill is indeed can strike multiple target at close range. Other than that, it maybe just a fine addition with twin iron skills for monk. “Ah, I thought nunchaku will works like short range whip, while tonfa works like punching gloves or claws. So, maybe skills with punching will work well with tonfa” I just blurted anything that currently in my mind, so I don’t know if it was true or not. I just hope @dindeen has the knowledge of this. My metalworking so far was just using normal method like in real world. I think a more knowledgeable person who know a lot of game mechanic in this world may find some methods to create metalwork differently than the usual method in real world. That is the kind of knowledge I want to achieve, while keeping my eyes for other people methods of metalworking. Hell, if I can find it someday.
Come to think about it, nunchaku can be useful for it can contain ‘effect’ as the weapon normally “I don’t know much about effect, but I think by giving nunchaku effect, it can give advantage on its own” I said that before @dindeen starts molding the materials. The effect I gained so far for the weapon or accessory I create was very simple one. @dindeen seems has more experiences in creating weapon, so I thought she can blow my mind with the magic in this world I never know of. “Is there any effect to attack faster, you know there is a movie back in our world where this guy beat the opponents without giving them any opportunity to attack back” I refer to that old movie where 90s guys always use his move as stereotype kungfu move, and sometimes make a comedic reference about it. Well, that was old movie, whether @dindeen knew about it or not, I don’t know.
I am back with myself, watching blacksmiths on the area to learn from them, while still sitting on my previous place. I take a look at @dindeen, and found she is currently busy with her tools. I keep sitting duck, frowning, looking at the dancing fire inside furnace, and waiting for the next phase to conclude.

After a few more strikes at the steel ingot, the eight faces were created. Caerbannog looked at the bottom of the piece to make sure that the cross-section was octagonal, and after she confirmed that it was, the blacksmith set the item aside to work on the other half. Meanwhile, the werecat had answered her question and gave some suggestions of his own. Noting his words about a short-ranged whip, Caerbannog came to a realization. She was basically researching something that she had not seen before in all of Elder Tale. Who’d have thought that an experimentation would turn out that way?
“It’s a flail,” the blacksmith said as she set to work on the next steel bar with her tongs at the ready, “Two parts that are joined together by a chain or something similar. It’s a flail-type of weapon.”
And then he made that comment about tonfa.
“Tonfa... like claws?” the samurai squinted at the werecat. She had so many questions running in her mind ranging from did he even know what tonfas looked like, among other things, “No they are not. They are definitely not like punching gloves or claws. You don’t punch or claw with tonfas, you hit people with them.”
It was rare for the Caer Bear to snap at people, but she just did. Maybe it was the adrenaline in his body that had caused it, but the monk said something pretty ridiculous as far as obvious things go and she would have none of it. As the next steel ingot was heated up by the furnace, Caerbannog thought about the effect that the monk wanted. There was no overall attack speed enhancement reforge, only ones that are specific to each skill. Perhaps he’d never seen a reforged item before, and he probably was not a blacksmith. Because a blacksmith or any other weapon or armor crafter would have known about it. Reforging was a basic of the basics, right next to crafting starter gear. At this point, the samurai was just happy to just finish the experimentation and send the werecat on his way.
“Here,” the blacksmith had finished the nunchucks not quite soon enough.
She just speedcrafted an iron chain and put the two octagonal-cross-sectioned parts together. Before she turned to leave, the blacksmith put out the furnace and handed the gold payment and the item to the werecat. It was a nunchuck with two metal parts joined together by an iron chain.
“It has eight flat faces. It is not round and smooth,” Caerbannog felt that she just needed to point that out even though in her past actions, she had shown it quite clearly that the nunchuck was similar to an Okinawan one and not the smooth Chinese-style thing that people see on the television, “The flat surfaces make it hit harder. A flat surface has bigger impact because it does not spread the force through a circular surface.”
With that, the blacksmith cleaned up the work area, put things away and she went back to the Westminster Abbey.
