RAZE
Character Info
REAL NAME: Ajay Khan
REAL GENDER: Open pervert. Need I say more?
GAME GENDER: I have a beard. Take a wild guess.
AGE: Blackjack, baby.
SEXUALITY: You; gender notwithstanding.
FACE-CLAIM: Edmond Dantes, GANKUTSUOU
PLAYED BY: Raze
RACE: Elf
FACTION: Adventurer
Appearance Raze is about average height, but his body has a streamlined, gaunt appearance that makes him seem taller - and weaker - than he really is. His arms are compact and muscular without being bulky and openly buff, and he regularly takes advantage of this fact to tempt the overly zealous into throwing themselves at him with reckless abandon. His skin is an eerie, unearthly aquamarine with the knife-ears that mark him as an elf, and his hair is a deep, dark sapphire that, like most of his kind, drapes long over his face - rugged yet eloquent, like a strange limbo between predator and prince. His clothes seem to exemplify this same dichotomy, wearing regal, princely outfits overlaid with shimmering lamellar and plate, strapping the iron plates over his chest, arms and legs while keeping his joints unhindered so as not to impede the swashbuckler's all-important mobility. The color of his outfits change regularly, but he always has a bit of a flair for exotic, hypnotic patterns and embroidery. His voice has a low, dark heaviness to it, and yet is far from crude, tempering the gruff, masculine undertone with a silky, serpentine smoothness. Raze's eyes are like twin moons of blood, reflecting the visage of those who look deeply into them like mirrors painted with a crimson taint, and are the windows to a more sinister, primal creature behind the finery. Though normally cool and composed, in times of desperation icy calm brakes forth into a berserk rage. His eyes become more and more surreal as a dark, savage instinct takes over, the color of his irises flowing like liquid, until at its peak the sanguine overflows from the irises into veiny, scarlet tendrils like runes of blood upon his skin, overwhelming him with savage, unbridled power. Suffice to say that if he gets to this point, whether you're friendly or not, run. | Personality Ajay is analytical to a fault. His father would always joke that god accidentally gave him a second brain for a heart - which isn't to say that he doesn't have feelings, but more that if he ever has feelings that are illogical, logic always wins. This has led to a lot of self-suppression over the years, but it also means that when you want to get something done, he's the guy to go to. Taking on those same characteristics, Raze is extroverted but quiet, constantly tinkering and plotting and designing contingency over contingency, though when he speaks it's rarely any more verbose than necessary, and more than half the times it's scathingly sarcastic, attributing a sort of vague mystique to his character. He's a clever strategist, and he's decently familiar with the game, having played as a monk on the Chinese servers (yes, he speaks fluent Mandarin) before switching over to the UK. He is highly competitive, and back on the Chinese servers, was an enormous fan of PvP, feeling that simple, programmed monsters paled in comparison to the challenge of a learning, reactive human being that doesn't stick to fixed action patterns. While he is loathe to use the system to prey on others, finding such behavior dishonorable, he has never been one to turn down a good duel. His philosophy is a blend of meritocratic and Machiavellian principles, believing in the honesty of action and the duplicity of words, and judges others by their capacity to, put simply, get things done. He is a clever strategist and a charismatic individual when he needs to be, and would have the mark of a great leader, were he not so fond of being alone, since it's the only time he allows his poker-face to go down and for any real emotion to come through. To him, exposing one's emotions is nothing less than asking to be manipulated. If one could say he was afraid of anything, that would be it. Of course, the way he seems to bask in being the life of the party, it's hard to pin him as the introvert he is. |
Build: Hurricane
A beautiful and rare swashbuckler style, unsupported by the game before the apocalypse because of its exotic stance and still extremely uncommon because of its difficulty, the Hurricane build dual-wields curved blades in a reverse grip with a crouching, fleet-footed stance. The style uses a blend of whirling slashes, dives, and even bashing the opponent with the hilt of the swashbuckler's blades in a storm of relentless attacks, something of a hybrid between the standard swashbuckler and monk. The reverse-grip stance makes deflection much more natural and instinctive, operating around the principle of becoming the weapon as the swashbuckler throws his own body forward like a bladed disc, becoming a swirling tempest of steel, or deflects with one blade, whirling and pulling the enemy's defenses aside before plunging the other blade into their exposed necks. For a Hurricane, the lines between offense, mobility and defense are blurred until they become entirely one and the same.
Biography
My earliest memory was a hand. My hand. Covered in my own blood, with jagged shards of glass like a glistening mess of crystal growing out of pools of crimson, thin trails slithering down towards the floor with an inaudible drip. I don't remember panicking, not at first, at least. I didn't know how. There wasn't pain so much as a throbbing, dizzying numbness. I remember feeling unbearably tired, I remember drowned, high-pitched screams slurring their way through my molten senses as my father gripped my wrist, looked me in the eye, and spoke words too soft for me to comprehend. I remember the shock, like a hundred bolts of lightning at once, the moment the alcohol hit my skin and the chill brought sensation back to my tormented hands... and I remember silently pressing my face into my father's shoulder as, however much I held back the urge to scream, my eyes began to water from the pain, wiping them against his suit before anyone could see.
Growing up was a bit of a roller coaster for me. Dad worked in international exports, so we always went where mass production was cheap and cargo ships were plentiful. This means I spent a good chunk of my childhood in China, learning the customs, the culture, and the language. Dad and I had a relationship where he would throw responsibilities way over my head at me as a way to mature me more quickly, and yet at the same time was fiercely over-protective of me, ensuring I would not fall to bad influences. Being the firstborn was a big deal to him. Of course, since I was restricted from leaving the house without a three-page essay worth of reasons meant I became what you call a first-generation geek. The first video game I ever played was Diablo II, a gift from one of my cousins. I was hooked. From there I moved on to shooters like Half Life and Counterstrike, strategy games like Age of Empires and Starcraft, and with the dawn of the MMO and MOBA genres, DotA and World of Warcraft.
Honestly, I wasn't that big of a fan of MMOs. Strategy games were far more my cup of tea, blending the best elements of long-term deviousness and quick-footed cunning into an analgamation of raw skill. The idea of grinding quickly became monotonous long before I even started playing Elder Tale. So when I finally did get into it, it was only because a group of buddies needed a good tank, and figured someone with a deep strategic mindset would make a good spearhead... okay, I lied - my girlfriend loved the game and 'tempted' me to tank for her group. I picked the mechanics up fairly quickly since the controls and combat felt far more organic than other games I played, and after a while fell naturally into the position of field monitor, given my strategic background. Of course, I never let her know I was actually enjoying myself. Getting 'tempted' into what I wanted to do anyway was too fun, and I had way too much experience hiding my enthusiasm. The only thing more fun than commanding an army was PvP in the arena. Fighting enormous behemoths is one thing, but knowing they're scripted sort of cheapens the thrill of victory. Knowing you bested another living, breathing mind, though - that's a trophy worth bragging about. So I climbed the arena ladder bit by bit until by the end of high school my monk was among the top five arena masters in all of China, known as the five fingers of death.
When I moved to the UK for college I didn't expect much of my gaming to carry over. It was impossible to maintain my title as a finger of death with the lag of playing all the way from the UK, so for my first two years I slipped back into the strategy and MOBA genres when I had the time. League of Legends had become a pretty big deal, so I figured I'd join the bandwagon. Even when the new UK server was announced I was far from first in line. It had been two years, after all, and the hype in me had died a little. Still, I figured Elder Tale deserved a spin, if only for old times' sake, even if the sequal of my beloved Diablo II was a bland, dream-crushing cesspool of grind-filth. So I started up a new character, a swashbuckler this time, since I'd always had a mixed hatred and fascination for those tricky bastards.
The rest, as they say, is history.

CLASS SKILLS
Main Class: Swashbuckler
Mirage Dealer: The Swashbuckler performs a forward X-slash with their two weapons to slash at an opponent, then immediately teleports a meter forward. This usually places them behind the enemy, allowing them to either bypass their line or enable them to continue attacking before the enemy realizes what just happened. Because of the flashiness of this skill, it's a popular technique among aspiring warriors. Try not to use it while the opponent's at the edge of a cliff or right against a wall, though. You'll either plummet to your death or crash face-first into a wall. This skill has an animation time of 2 seconds and a cooldown of 8 seconds.
Shuffle Windmill: The Swashbuckler spins in place and performs 4 rotations with outstretched weapons, forming a horizontal sawblade attack. It can also be performed from a downed position in order to spin and transition into a final standing pose. This technique has optimal results if the lengths of both weapons are the same. Be careful of your party members' positions before you attempt it though. This skill has an animation time of 2 seconds and a cooldown of 8 seconds.
Viper Raise: An attack that targets the arm tendons. A successful hit will result in gradual damage over time due to a bleeding effect, which is accommodated by the wound area seeping out a constant trail of blood. Despite the move's somewhat gory animation, this bleeding effect is fairly minor and scales in a manner similarly to a poison effect. Also, for the next 10 seconds, the target's attack speed will be decreased by 10% due to the pain associated with moving the arms. This skill has a 2 second animation time and a 9 second cooldown.
Level 4 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 4.
Level 7 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 7.
Level 10 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 10.

Level 16 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 16.
Level 19 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 19.
Level 22 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 22.
Level 25 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 25.
Level 28 Tier I Skill: A Tier I skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. Unlocked at Level 28.
Level 31 Tier II Skill: A skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. The skill may be either a Tier I or II skill. Unlocked at Level 31.
Roleplay Class: Berserker
Outrage: In times of desperation, the Berserker's physical abilities start to shine. When the Berserker's HP falls below 25%, their damage output increases by 5%. When the Berserker's HP falls below 10%, their damage output increases by 10% instead.
Crafting Class: Blacksmith
Heatsink: Blacksmiths are able to wear chain armor without penalties if they are normally unable to wear chain armor. They are able to wear plate armor without penalties if they are normally able to wear chain armor but not plate armor. Also a toggle skill. Through their skills at working around a forge, blacksmiths have developed a slight tolerance toward heat. They take reduced damage of 10% from fire-based attacks.
