Vaan
Character Info
NAME: Vaan
GENDER: Male
AGE: 25
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
FACE-CLAIM: Source Unknown
PLAYED BY: Hirosame
RACE: Human
FACTION: Person of the Land
DISTRICT: Red
Appearance Vaan's usual appearance has him in a long, black trench coat, which covers the majority of his slender body. Standing at 6 feet, 2 inches, he tends to look a bit more intimidating due to his size and shape. Without the trench coat on, one would be able to tell that the man is quite lanky in build. Long arms, long legs, and a slim mid section. His feet are covered by black shoes, to complete the dark clothing. A Red Pinion is attached to his coat, to specify which district he works for. Vaan's face looks much younger than he is, at least 5 years or so, which is a cause for his irrationality when people bring this to his attention. Brown eyes, black hair, and a softly pointed nose make up the rest of his face, along with his mildly expressive mouth. His eyes are usually in a calm demeanor, as he tries to stay as unaffected by most things. | Personality While it is far from perfect, Vaan has a blend of rationality and irrationality. His rationality comes from his work, in that he must remain as calm as possible when on the job. If he's learned anything from working in the Red district, working under the Red Princess who loves progress and efficiency, it's that he needs to get things done swiftly, and effectively. This requires keeping a cool head when dealing with clients and the like. However, as much as he could try to keep calm, on the job, he tends to lose his cool from time to time. While it's not to the point of doing anything to get the job done, recklessness is the best way to put his actions in the field. Vaan doesn't really care for his own personal safety, and instead focuses it into his work and his reputation. Getting the job done is important, but not to the point of killing himself. He's at least smart enough to know that. What good is he to the Red Princess if he's dead? |

Biography
Living in the big city was a wondrous phenomenon for Devan Baxter, as he had grown up in the farmlands nearby the city for so long. He would often, as a young lad, stare at the city, and wonder what it would be like to live there. As luck would have it, he and his family eventually were asked to join the city's economic section, the Green District, for their knowledge and understanding of the land, and how to better treat and produce from it. Moving into the city was a huge adventure for Devan, he thought, but that all very quickly changed as soon as he had arrived in the city.
The Green District, while having the finest and freshest of food, had little to no city elements, the kind that Devan had desired for so long. After working on a smaller farm in the Green District for a few years, Devan grew bored of the city, and wondered what it would be like to live back in the open fields. Everything felt so much more enclosed than before, having a smaller section to work on, which one could imagine wasn't even remotely close to the size of farm that they had worked back in the fields. Already at the age of 10, Devan was very tired of life, and wanted a new spice to appear. To sweep him away.
But, he got just what he wished. On a trip to the local market to sell some of their crops, Devan was knocked out, abducted, and taken away into a different district of the city.
When he awoke, he couldn't remember a thing. The boy looked around at the dark room he was tied up in with fear. He had no memory of anything. Where he was, who he was, what he was doing here, or where he belonged. Faces of people whom he didn't know, eating away at some food nearby, terrified him. Trying to scream, he found a cloth wrapped tightly around his mouth, his arms and legs bound by rope on a chair. Wiggling and writhing to get free, he couldn't do anything to help himself. The faces of the people who were nearby him turned his way, and after a quick punch, he was out cold again.
The boy awoke to the sound of gunfire, barely opening his eyes up in time to see a female figure, roughly in her mid 20's, placing a gun on her hip. "Hey, kid. You alright?" She asked. A weak nod later, Vaan caught a glimpse of the woman. Was she some sort of police or something? "Where you from?" She asked again. As she untied the boy from the chair, he responded by just shaking his head. "No idea, huh? They must've hit you pretty hard." The woman put her hand gently on the side of his head, to which he cringed a bit. Scoffing a little, she stood back up. "Well, sorry for helping you. Shouldn't've wasted my time if you're just gonna wheel back at a light touch." After a few moments of silence, she continued. "The name's Leigh. I'm a detective for the Red District of Lune Seaport. Come with me to the station, and we'll get things all set up."
While at the station, Leigh deducted that the boy had lost all memory, and therefore couldn't tell her where he lived, or had any recollection of where he was from. So, she kept him at the station for a few days, hoping that someone would report a missing child. After about a week, nobody said anything. She walked back into her office, where the boy sat, and looked at him. "Nothing today, either, kid." The boy looked down in disappointment. Feeling a little bad, Leigh looked at him with pity. Then, an idea sprouted. "I can't just keep calling you kid. From now on, you're Vaan. Got it?" Having been christened with a name, Vaan looked up to her with a slight hint of glee, and a little smile on his face. Leigh continued. "How about you join the force for now? Give you something to do while waiting for someone to show up. I could use a secretary."
From then on, Vaan worked side-by-side with Leigh on missions, learning the ways of the police force. Upon turning 18, which was decided exactly 8 years after Leigh had found the boy, she gave him a gun and told him to accompany her on the next mission. From then on, Vaan had become a sidekick to Leigh, as a crime-fighting duo. Day after day, year after year, his experience on the force grew. Until one mission. One mission that will remain in Vaan's heart forever. For a few days before the mission's execution, Leigh had become much sadder, and a lot darker. Her usual expression changed from normal to one of a mourning mother. Then, the day of the mission.
Leigh bit the bullet to save Vaan, effectively losing control of her right arm. Having been hospitalized, she was taken off of active duty. The doctors and healers of the area determined that she wouldn't be able to use her right arm as effectively as she once could have, to her dismay. However, a shining light for her appeared before her eyes, as she had watched Vaan grow into a fine young man. Once released from the hospital, she handed Vaan her favorite gun, and her badge. "You're in charge now, boss." Were the only words she gave him in a letter, and she disappeared from the city the next day, without a trace.
3 years later, Vaan has fully taken over the position of detective for the business that Leigh had left him. He still wondered where the woman had gone, but knew that she had her reasons for leaving. While he wanted to know where his mentor went, he knew that he had to stay here, and clean up her mess. Every so often, he would chuckle thinking about how the ex-detective gave him all her troubles, and left. He didn't mourn over her leaving, but instead took it over, as her final wish for him. Now, he stands as one of Lune's Police Force, protecting the city from criminals of all sorts.

CLASS SKILLS
Main Class: Warden
Pistol Whip: Turn your favorite weapon into a bludegon and direct it at your foe. This will have a knockback effect against smaller and medium sized foes and a slight daze effect against foes larger than you. It's best not to let them get into this range however.
Riot Blade: A skill originally intended for surpressing a group of prisoners, has been found to be suprisingly effective against everything else. The warden sweeps in a wide frontal arc, hitting up to 3 enemies within reach and increasing aggro against them.
Steady Shot: The user's armor will stiffen for a short time, allowing a more accurate shot to be taken as a result of a more steady hand. This ability also enhances the damage of the attack.
Simmer Down: A debuffing attack which allows an aimed shot to reduce the attack power of the target by a small amount.
Disabling shot: A targeted shot at an enemy's legs, reducing their movement speed and evasion ability.
Warning shot: The warden fires a shot at a targeted monster. Despite the name warning, the shot hits the target and generates a large amount of aggro and effectively taunting the monster.
Flaregun: Wardens in the field have long needed to be able to communicate with each other over long distances which gave rise to the flare system. Up to 3 flares can be fired by a ranged weapon. These can be of nearly any color, but the most common being Red, White and Green. It was quickly found to also be an effective attack. The path of the flares are erratic however, making it difficult to hit a target beyond medium range.
Trained Eyesl: A warden has spent many years, watching and observing. When activated this ability allows them to aim more accurately at moving targets. This ability drains MP while active.
M.U.T. Mechanized Utility Tool: A warden's staple everywhere. Not very useful for attacking enemies, it has great value in it's ability to alter terrain. Preparation has always been a key belief in the Warden doctrine. The M.U.T. has 3 forms, an unpowered shovel, a powered drill and a powered saw. Their use can with some time, alter a location to create a tiny fortification, just large enough for a party. Party members within the fortification receive the entrenchment effect. Entrenchment increases the health and mp recovery of party members when resting and their defense in the event of combat.
Accelerated Burst: Escape ability . Consumes 1/2 cartridge to instantly propel the warden 5 meters either forward, backward or to the side via some explosive rocket charges in their boots.
Armor Plating: Additional small armor plates are placed at critical locations enhancing overall physical defense by 10%.
Scope: Level 30 Buff Slot Upgrade. A scope can be fitted to your ranged weapon to increase it's range moderately.
Level 31 Tier II Skill: A skill slot that can be occupied with either an Adventurer or Main Class skill. The skill may be either a Tier I or II skill. Unlocked at Level 31.
Roleplay Class: Gunslinger
Outlaw: Toggle skill. Gunslingers have an affinity with firearms, allowing them to use firearms without penalty if their main class is normally not able to wield firearms. When Outlaw is toggled, the Gunslinger will see the remaining number of bullets in their current magazine and the total amount of bullets remaining in their inventory, displayed at a corner of their vision. If the firearm is empty and requires reloading, the number will be displayed in red.
Crafting Class: Mechanic
Disassembly: Toggle skill. Mechanics have a certain affinity with taking apart machines, so monsters that are mechanical in nature had better watch out. Mechanics deal 20% more damage to Machine-type monsters. They can also cancel buffs on Machine-type monsters upon a successful hit.
