Elliot Grantham
Character Info
REAL NAME: Elliot Grantham
REAL GENDER: Male
GAME GENDER: Male
AGE: 22
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
FACE-CLAIM: inquisitor, DRAGON AGE
PLAYED BY: Josheewa
RACE: Ritual
FACTION: Adventurer
Appearance Elliot was one of the lucky ones, according to some of his fellow players. His physical form didn't change too much during the shift from physical reality to virtual. Because of his chosen race, he gained quite a few arcane markings on his skin, but that is nothing he has any qualms about. In fact, he rather likes the light blue and faintly glowing characters that have appeared along the bottom of his forearms and across his chest. He likes to imagine that they tell a story, and that story is one he is still attempting to discern. His height is one of the things for which he is grateful. In an out of game, he stands at about 6'3" (190cm). He also didn't change much weight wise, but he feels like he firmed up a bit. He hasn't been able to check in the game, but he weighed about 200lbs (91kg) on earth. He is more athletic in the game than in reality due to his being a graduate student. His face holds what appears to be a neat and permanent five o'clock shadow. This dark brown stubble matches the slicked fade that he meticulously keeps 'just so'. The darkness of his hair causes his steel-blue eyes to really pop. When he can, Elliot prefers to wear loose fitting clothes such as t-shirts and cargo shorts or maybe even a set of robes - anything that promotes air flow and enables the movements needed for exploration and observation. He is also partial to earth tones. Because of his constantly observing things, his pace tends to be slower, but not a crawl by any means. He tries to keep an unassuming posture, though this is hard due to his size. In all, his movement is fairly humble and non-aggressive. | Personality Elliot is an INTJ. Though he can participate in group functions (his major actually requires it to some extent), he gains energy and rests by being alone with his books. He also enjoys learning about other people and cultures, he just has to perform the hands on aspect of this in small doses. Go ahead, call him a prude. Elliot believe in the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. With his research and with his interactions with others, he has always found honesty to be the best policy. Does this mean he beats people over the head with it? No, he has tact and class, but he won't lie. He has a decent feel for when people are lying or when they are telling the truth, but he is also a bit cynical because he knows the majority of people don't share in his commitment to honesty. He is courteous to all, but whether he has known someone for a long time or only a short time, he is observant and calculating. He is generally cautious in all of his dealings, both to protect himself and to keep his own bias out of his observations. He will become friends with some, but is far more likely to keep people at "acquaintance level clearance". |
Extra
Elliot is left handed, though only with eating and writing. When it comes to holding a weapon, swinging a bat, or anything else, really, he is right-handed.
Biography
Elliot grew up lost in the world of fiction. Harry Potter, Eragon, Lord of the Rings. Magic, adventure, locations, and cultures different from his own were the things upon which he focused. His parents fueled his budding imagination by continually buying book after book for their son. Elliot eventually branched into RPGs and MMORPGs. However, he never forgot his books. As he matured, he began to realize it wasn't just the magic and the adventure that he liked, but the differences in people based on where and how they lived. He learned he liked to learn, especially about cultures. This discovery prompted his beginning to study Anthropology in both undergraduate and graduate school.
Elliot was born and raised in the south of England to an upper-middle class family. His parents both worked, but still managed to find time to spend with their son and to foster his interests. They could see the desire to learn. Reading and writing seemed to come as naturally as breathing, though he did tend to suffer when doing any type of maths.
His parents were slightly worried when he didn't keep as many friends as the other boys his age, but he seemed content with the few he had, so they didn't push the issue too much. The lack of more friends than he could count certainly didn't bother him however. In his mind, a friend was someone you could trust more than anyone else and you could talk to them about deep things. Gossip and superficial conversations were for acquaintances and not worthy of the title "friend". Once he had explained this to his parents, they were satisfied.
He began playing Elder Tale during his senior year of undergrad, but didn't really have the time to get into it too much. It was once the British server was announced during his graduate studies that he decided to give it another shot. Since he was only taking a half-load every semester, he had some time to kill...

CLASS SKILLS
Main Class: Shaman
Damage Interception: Tier I Skill
A barrier skill known as the signature move of the Shaman. Forms either a stationary barrier or a barrier around a target that continues to exist until the "energy" of the barrier expires. Energy will decrease slowly over time and decrease from damage taken. This skill has a casting time of 1.5 seconds and a cooldown of 10 seconds.

Purgatory Barrier: Tier I Skill
This skill is initiated by casting the spell and creating a small sphere that can be thrown at a character or object. Upon contact, the sphere will form a barrier around the target and causes it to float about two meters into the air, suspending the target in mid-air inside the barrier. The barrier is broken as soon as it is struck by any sort of attack, giving it the fan name of "Purgatory Bubble." Of course, once the barrier is broken, the target will fall the full two meters, causing minor fall damage. This skill has a casting time of 3 seconds, a maximum duration of 5 seconds, and a cooldown of 15 seconds.

Summon Shikigami: Tier I Skill
The Shaman calls forth a shikigami, a humanoid familiar spirit, in a solid form. The appearance of a Shikigami varies from Shaman to Shaman, but typically they resemble humans with pronounced animal-like features similar to Fox Tails that normally wear Eastern traditional clothing. They are normally said to have a personality and body representative of the Shaman's inner self. This means that while some Shikigami will resemble their masters, others may look vastly different and may even be of the opposite gender. For Shamans who employ more than one Shikigami, each particular Shikigami will still look distinct but will seem to be like siblings. As a Shikigami is representative of the true self, it can speak and understand the languages that the Shaman may speak. Shikigami are usually used in a support role, with tasks ranging from off-tanking to scouts to support DPS. There is a wide range of shikigami that a Shaman can summon, and they last for 5 minutes. In the original game, shikigami were treated as bonus content for players, with little to no practical use. However, after the Catastrophe, shikigami now share the same sensations with their masters, allowing shikigami to serve reconnaissance roles in battle. Of course, there are shikigami that are well-loved by many as mascots. This skill has a casting time of 5 seconds. Only one Shikigami may be summoned at a time.

Prayer of Recovery: Tier I Skill
A Shamai's unique healing magic skill, allowing for a small amount of healing with a short casting time and cooldown, although with a low base healing effect. When cast, bright blue magatama jewels surround the target and the sound of small bells can be heard. Is often called "Mini-heal" by many, and can be used as a form of encouragement to others. In the post-Catastrophe world, the sound of bells this skill makes are often interpreted as "greetings or prayers of a Shaman wishing for a safe return". This skill has a casting time of 1 second and a cooldown of 5 seconds.

Reactive Barrier: Tier I Skill
The shaman creates a reflective stationary barrier. Melee attacks that pass through the barrier during contact have their momentum reduced and offensive magic is partially returned to the enemy's direction. Essentially, this skill works as a filter. The target behind the barrier will still take most of the damage received, so it's not an absolute barrier. Ranged attacks and non-offensive magic will still affect the target normally, however. This skill has a casting time of 3 seconds, a duration of 10 seconds, and a cooldown of 20 seconds.

Roleplay Class: Sage
Level 1 Skill
Sense Element: Sages are sensitive to the different forms of mana once it has polarized into the eight main elements. Sense Element allows the Sage to home in onto a specific element and obtain a vague impression of that element's location. This can be useful for searching for water sources when traveling through a dry desert or for being able to navigate oneself through a dark cave by following the trail of light or wind mana. Of course, based on the context of the environment, this skill may not be particularly helpful at times. Using it while sailing on the high seas to search for water mana, for example, will probably overload the Sage's senses. Sense Element has a casting time of 10 seconds, a range of 25 meters, and a cooldown of 60 seconds.

Crafting Class: Scribe
Level 1 Skill
Transcription: Scribes are known for their ability to copy and examine documents carefully. This allows them to obtain the Adventurer skill [Mythic Script] as a Beginner-level skill without it taking up a skill slot. Their knowledge also allows them to use and read grimoires in the Ancient Text, allowing them to use grimoires without penalties and perform some basic magic attacks depending on their Magic stat. If the character can already use grimoires through racial or class bonuses, grimoire damage increases by 10%.
