Capsule softly yawned, the sound muffled by the thick, white fur surrounding her. The woman was riding on the back of her Snowfield Bear, Aleksei. Normally she would be riding along on Kasper, her Crystal Reindeer, but since the expedition up north, Capsule had learned that that may not be the best of ideas. It had to do with her lack of riding experience, the reindeer being sculpted from rock, and the lack of an appropriate saddle or blanket to cushion her bottom. She had heeded Mikoto’s advice on riding during the expedition, though had chosen to ride Aleksei on a whim. Well, that and she was influenced by a poster she saw on the way out of Londinium.
It had never occurred to her that polar bears could make decent mounts (even in an MMO, where logic was often nonexistent), so she had simply not given it a thought. The poster had admittedly caught her off guard when she saw it among other similar ones, and actually managed to prompt her into doing something she otherwise might not have. Even Bosco could ride, albeit he was slumped over the side and holding on for dear life.
Polar bears were capable of growing taller than ten feet, and roughly weighed around fifteen hundred pounds when they did. Despite being so large, they could also sprint short distances at twenty five miles per hour, a dash similar to a world record held by a professional runner. Polar bears could also swim one hundred miles at six miles per minute, twice as fast as a former Olympic gold medalist. Capsule was not sure when she would actually need to use Aleksei in the water, but it was good to know just in case. Aside from the polar bear’s well insulated fur that defied infrared cameras (making them damn good at stealth), the rest of the poster was filled with info Capsule found irrelevant. Stating that polar bears were warm was an obvious fact that anyone should know, and walking hibernation seemed like a given. Bears typically had to survive mostly on the food they had gorged themselves on during the winter, so knowing that a polar bear could go for months without food did nothing for her.
All in all, the poster made several good points, and that was enough to convince Capsule to spice up her mount options. This world was originally an MMO, and the fantasy background more than justified it. Making people feel small and insignificant felt pretty great, to be frank. In a world that was fairly mundane, with only political tension, civilian violence and the threat of war to fret about, Capsule was the one made to feel tiny and defenseless. Here, she could be top dog, and other people were studying her work or coming to her for assistance. Feelsgoodman.jpg
Aleksei slowed to a stop as they made it to the Thames Coastline. Without further ado, the bear reared up on his hind legs, nearly unseating Capsule in the process. A large, furry paw reached around to gentle brush her and Bosco down. Bosco was glad to be free, and streaked away to play in the water. Capsule slipped down onto the ground, and afterwards the bear set himself firmly down on the ground again. He was not given any time to grumble, as Capsule sent him back to one of her Animal Trainer slots. Aleksei had complained when she said she wanted to ride him, despite him being just as capable as any horse. She was sure that he would get used to it eventually.
