Sayha had been staying in her home in Moon Dance Forest for the past few days. It was bare for the most part except for a Training Dummy that a friend, Fletcher, had sent her as a welcome home gift. Since the Halloween Event with monsters and all was still on-going, Sayha thought about going on a hunt again. However, she didn’t really feel like soloing a bunch of monsters. Since she had been in her home, she thought she would call up Fletcher to see if he would be interested in hunting in Sarum Frontier. They had done their last hunt in the Windsor Greatwoods so hunting in Sarum would be a good change of pace. It was about 10a when Sayha left her home and headed for the border between Sarum and the Greatwoods. When Fletcher agreed to join her, they agreed that that place would be the best meeting spot.
Sayha briefly looked at her level. She was definitely high enough for the area, but she also knew that any of the Halloween monsters no matter what level they were could appear wherever they desired. They would still need to keep their heads on them just to be safe.
Sayha realized that Fletcher would probably still be a bit. She knew the walk from Londinium through the Greatwoods could be a bit long if there were any complications such as monster attacks and such. For the time being, Sayha found a tree and sat against it and relaxed for a bit. No point in wasting energy standing in the sun waiting for someone.

The last thing Fletcher had expected that morning was getting a message from Sayha. Not that it wasn’t welcome, it just turned out that where ever he seemed to find himself, be it in a party of heading out, she was around. Now this time however she was explicitly asking him out somewhere. The pair of them had been on a few adventures and braved a lot of things together, so the little voice in the back of Fletcher’s mind wondered if this was going to be another one of those zany adventures that for better or worse turned out okay. He thought back to how the day before was, and what was around that she might be looking to hunt; it took him all of five seconds to assume it would be hunting more beasts of the night given they were in full force still.
Sarum Frontier was a decent trek away, and Fletcher again cursed himself for not having some means of transport other than foot. Thinking to the followers in which he had, Salamander wasn’t powerful enough to just fly him where he needed to go; at least not yet. Carbuncle was a lithe fox and couldn’t carry the weight of a dwarf let alone be big enough to make much better distance than the dwarf without being at a jog. Sighing, he headed out as early as he could, picking himself up from the barren house he was sitting in and locking the front door behind him. He’d been out Sarum way a few times, but wasn’t overly familiar with the area unless it was the frontier itself. Even then, the frontier was just a large expanse of grass and rolling hills until you got far enough to hit the mountains, in which case it was just more of the same minus the grass.
Fletcher started his trek and ended it sometime later emerging from the veil of the Greatwood, stepping out into the sun of Sarum Frontier. It’d been a decent and uneventful walk, and one he’d done without any follower keeping him company. There was some dicey moments around the Windsor Castle area, but it wasn’t too bad after knowing how best to avoid the roaming undead. The meeting point was to be around here, given the few safe ways to exit the Greatwood without ending up a day’s trek to Sarum, and sure enough there was Sayha, relaxing under a tree. ”Morning!” Fletcher called over, bringing his pace up to a jog just to close the distance between him and the assassin before he continued. ”I’m ready when you are. Gotta admit, I didn’t expect hearing from you out of the blue; not that I mind. Just seems to be more habit to run into each other incidentally than plan to meet.” Fletcher folded his arms over a puffed out chest, somewhere between a warm smile and a confident smirk.

When Sayha heard Fletcher’s voice, she stood and turned to him with a smile, “Good to see you, Fletch. Yeah, I thought of that this morning, and I thought calling you would be a nice change of pace for once. I’ve been here a few times, but I know my little area in Moon Dance Forest better than the Frontier itself. It should be a fun time.” Sayha quickly shot Fletcher a party invite and started trekking her way off path, hoping he was following. “I don’t have any aggro grabbing abilities, but I’ll do my best to keep aggro off of you, Fletch. I should be able to as long as I keep my poison up,” Sayha spoke. Just ahead, Sayha spotted 3 monsters: 2 Flare Jacks and 1 Frost Jack. Sayha drew her two swords and poisoned them with <Death Stinger>. After a moment, Sayha was able to discern their levels. “Looks like two level 15 Flare Jacks and a level 20 Frost Jack,” Sayha said to Fletcher, “There may be other monsters around, but I don’t see any. I’ll go first and grab their attention. Let me know if there are any other enemies for me to aggro.”
Sayha activated both <Silent Move> and <Hiding Entry> and made her way towards the crop of Jacks. They didn’t notice her at all which meant she had the upper hand. She targeted one of the Flare Jacks first, “<Quick Draw>.” She dashed forward and striked the first Jack. All three of them were surprised at her sudden appearance which was very good for her. Sayha then turned her attention to the Flare Jack, “<Sword Rain Flurry>.” After ten quick stabs, she turned to the final Jack, “<Deadly Dance>.”
Sayha successfully poisoned all the jacks… as well as made them pissed at her. It seemed she did her job maybe a bit too well.

‘Fletch’, huh? The dwarf made no comment or movement to show that he’d found the nickname a little odd, but didn’t overly care about it much. Now Moon Dance Forest didn’t seem familiar though, he’d have to ask her about it later. She was right though, the frontier was mostly documented as an explored place, but between the two of them it was still very much uncharted territory. Sayha shot him an invite before setting off into the frontier, going off road from the direct route between where they currently were and the town of Sarum. Fumbling, Fletcher accepted the invite and then jogged to catch up to Sayha, hearing her speak.
”Oh, that’s fine. I’ll hold back on dealing significant amounts of damage and just keep you alive. It’s what I’m all about, anyway.” He spoke nonchalantly, keeping his eyes forward to where ever it was that they were heading to in the great green yonder. With nothing more than a nod to Sayha’s instructions, she streaked off with blades drawn. Fletcher figured this would be easy given their combined level total compared to what it was that they were up against. It was a little too relaxing to take seriously, but it was a nice catch up all the same; he just wished he had a cup of coffee or tea to really make this meeting really just a casual affair. As far as Fletcher could tell, assassins were geared to be the silent killers, and Sayha was a perfect example of that, sneaking in and shocking them with her sudden initiation of a sortie on the group; it truly was a sight to behold.
Granted, she wasn’t the only one here and he did have to pick up his own slack in this party; if he didn’t there was a chance that carelessness and recklessness would give them a one way ticket to the cathedral. Rolling his wrists around just to get the stiffness out, Fletcher thrust his hand to the side, hand balled up into a fist and summoned the blue fox Carbuncle to his side. Sweeping his hand forward the fox dashed in, ready to support the assassin. ”Carbuncle; Damage Intercept!” A ruby light shone from the gem on the fox’s forehead and bathed Sayha in a radiant cloak of protective magic, giving her a minor barrier from monster attacks. It’d probably break after a few weak hits, or even one direct solid hit, but it was there to mitigate some of the damage as opposed to all of it. After all, he wasn’t a Shaman, and couldn’t pretend to be one even with the bare basic barrier at his beck and call. Every monster that he could see was focused on Sayha, which was fine and thankfully only the three which she engaged; perhaps they were between respawns to explain the scarcity.
There was one other thing he could do bolster one of Sayha’s attributes. It wouldn’t last long, but it’d be a boost if she wanted to engage them head on. Fletcher traced the symbol of Aquarius in the air between him and Sayha and placed a magical brand on her, the effects of which to bolster her strength to increase her damage output. It’d last maybe ten seconds at most, but it was something. ”You’re good to engage, Sayha. No enemies bringing up the rear!”

Once Sayha engaged the 3 Jacks, Sayha saw a shield put up around her. It was a good thing too since the Jacks were getting ready to attack her. Both of the Flare Jacks began to breathe fire using <Pumpkin Flame>. Sayha was able to dodge the attacks but summersaulting backwards. Just as she landed, the Frost Jack attacked her with <Pumpkin Slam>. She was able to deflect some of the attack with one of her swords, but there was some damage dealt to her shield. Sayha heard Fletcher call to her and tell her she was good to engage as there wasn’t any other enemies nearby. Good. Sayha got back to her feet and ran towards one of the Flare Jacks. It was fairly low so she knew she could finish it off quickly. “<Accel Dance>,” Sayha began to slash and stab the Flare Jack quickly. Of course, the other two weren’t going to stand by and let her kill one of them. Both the other Jacks used <Pumpkin Slam> on her again, but Sayha jumped out of the way in time for the two of the Jacks to collide with themselves. Her <Accel Dance> was still active so she began to slice and the two Jacks in front of her.
Once the <Dance> was de-activated, the first Flare Jack attacked the ground underneath her with <Firewheel>, and Sayha was knocked down but quickly got up when the Forst Jack used its <Ice Beam> attack. It missed Sayha, but it clipped one of her swords, freezing it. Sayha stabbed the frozen sword into the ground next to her. Sayha, now down to one sword, knew she should finish everything up quickly. Then again, her poison DoT was doing quite a bit of work. Most of the health of the Jacks was gone. That was when the Jacks teleported a bit away. They wouldn’t be able to run from the fight, but now there was distance that needed to be closed. Sayha watched her cooldowns and waited for her last combo.

As Fletcher called that she was ready to engage, Sayha began to take the offensive after narrowly avoiding two close calls from the Flare Jacks that had taken a dislike to her intruding on their alone time. However, the first one that fell prey to Sayha’s blades took a solid beating by a whirling dervish of steel, attracting further attention from the other two. Nimble and true to form, Sayha got out of the way of an impending collision and turned her attention on the other two, slicing them up with the same skill she had started to use on the first one. Assassins were scary powerful it seemed, and Fletcher felt a bit meek in comparison given all of his actions were about sustained attrition against monsters; he doubted he could go one on one with many, if any of the other classes he had run into if they were on equal footing level-wise with him.
There was something that bothered him seeing Sayha being the target of so many consecutive attacked. She was doing fine, but there was just something about a three on one situation that made him feel tense. Perhaps it was Sayha’s gender reminding him of his daughter, and the feelings he was having was just a paternal instinct kicking in to keep her safe. That said, he would and was through use of magic, just not stepping in and doing fisticuffs with the bad guys was a considerable amount different. Sayha lost one of her swords to ice magic after being knocked down; it took all of the second it’d take to cast but Fletcher and Carbuncle in unison bathed Sayha in more protective, and this time healing, light.
Already his brand on his fellow party member was fading, so that was the first thing to be refreshed as she coiled herself up, ready to spring as the Flare Jacks tried teleporting away, knowing full well that their defeat was only seconds away. There was that uncomfortable stillness that happened when you were waiting for cooldowns to finish; he’d experienced it only once before waiting for his healing spells to come off cooldown to stop another party member from falling; he had no access to any form of revival spells, at least not yet. He knew from the times he’d called upon the power of the Pebble of Philosophy that he’d had a pact with the summon Phoenix, the bird of revival. It was a nice fall back, but he had no such pact without the memories of his summoner predecessor. All in time, though. All in time.

Once Sayha’s cool downs were up, Sayha made her next moved. Thanks to Fletcher, she was nearly back to full health. Since she was already in combat, she didn’t bother going to the Jacks in stealth. The three Jacks had re-congregated together, and that made Sayha’s job much easier. Sayha first targeted the nearest Jack which was a Flare Jack, “<Quick Draw>.” She dashed forward and slashed, the Jack exploded into bubbles. She then turned to the other Flare Jack, “<Deadly Dance>.” She slashed her blade horizontally, making the second Jack explode into more bubbles. Now, it was just the Frost Jack. It tried to attack her with <Pumpkin Slam>, but she deflected the attack easily before going in for her final attack. “<Sword Rain Flurry>,” Sayha stabbed her sword forward ten times. Once she was done, that Jack too exploded into bubbles. Before she went to retrieve her other katana, Sayha glanced around, making sure there weren’t any other enemies. Once she was sure, she turned back and grabbed her now defrosted blade. She sheathed them both and went over to Fletcher.
“Thanks for the shield and heals, Fletch,” Sayha said with a smile, “Usually when I’m out duoing, I have a tank with me instead of a healer, but it’s a nice change.” She referred to Hiro who was her close friend as well as her guild master. Sayha had met Fletcher before she joined Apocrypha back when she first decided to start leveling. She recalled the others, and realized that most of them were now in guilds. The only ones weren’t were the samurai Lucian, who she never saw anymore, and Fletcher.
“Hey, Fletch, how come you’re not in a guild yet?” Sayha asked, “You’re a great healer, and I’m surprised none of the guilds in town have tried to recruit you. Or have they and you just turn them down?”

With cooldowns ready, Sayha pounced. A single cleave and the first Flare Jack was down, felled in a mass of bubbles from a well placed cut. Turned out that the poison that she had led with infecting all of them with had done its job. The second one she lined up and used another skill; Fletcher’s eyes flicking to her biometrics to see just how much MP he had left, raising a finger as a trained and silent command to the Carbuncle to get ready to use Phantasmal Heal to bring her MP reserves back up. The summoner and fox shared a strangely deep connection that had only developed further through time and levels. There was a niggling feeling at the back of Fletcher’s mind telling him that he was either overlooking something or just plain forgetting something relating to how he and Carbuncle had developed to this point, but he just couldn’t remember.
Next up was the Frost Jack, who struck out in vain meeting with the forte of Sayha’s blade before becoming a pincushion and bursting, like the others, into a mass of bubbles. There was something oddly satisfying about seeing bubbles appear when monsters fell in battle, but he hadn’t had the chance to really see one of his party members do the same just yet. There were no other enemies, but Sayha was ever vigilant even after the last monster was down, retrieving her blade before coming back to join him on the rear lines of the battlefield. He smiled back as she thanked him for the support. ”It’s my pleasure, truly. The company is always nice, and even though I do have ample company back home, having someone that doesn’t chitter or is from another plane of existence is always a nice change.”
Then the question was posed to him why he wasn’t in a guild. Fletcher’s eyes widened with surprise, although he didn’t react further than that, only finding himself turning a little red in the cheeks at the compliment of his ability as a healer. He’d like to have said that he’d had many an invitation and he’d just turned them down, but sadly there were none. Well, there was that one time that Bailin had mentioned off the cuff about joining Vylbrand Acadamy if his interest in doing so lay beyond the scope of a financial endeavour, but the topic never came up again. Then there was Dumah, who he’d been on a few adventures with as well, and yet no invitation had come his way from there, either. Fletcher frowned, still staying silent and yet visually mulling over how to answer Sayha’s question. A dark thought crossed his mind, wondering if his abilities really were decent given the lack of invitation thus far into a guild. Perhaps Sayha had invited him out here not as a friend but as a means to recruit him into some larger scheme that she needed him for; those with a proficiency for healing weren’t as common as one would think.
”I… Uh…” He was still struggling, unsure of how to proceed. He looked down to Carbuncle, who by this stage had draped itself over Sayha’s feet and was chirring contentedly to itself. ”Can’t say I’ve had any invitations. At all, actually.” He was a little embarrassed by the comment, but continued. ”I suppose through lack of a guild I’ve just learned to be independent. Like when we went into the train tunnels, I was just passing by as opposed to be there in an organised manner. Coming out today was also spurred by just not having much to do these days; gaining levels here and there is all that I tend to be able to do, and I do it alone. Although not by choice.” Scratching the back of his head before shrugging, he looked over Sayha’s character information briefly before noticing she was in a guild; perhaps she intended to invite him? It was a nice thought. ”Why do you ask? From what I’ve gathered from my followers I’m lagging behind in my training and not meeting the bar that should be where I’m at for my level; although a lot of the pacts that I’ve heard about can only be obtained with a party, so…” He trailed off, leaving Sayha to fill in the blanks. He couldn’t be a proper summoner with how he was just by himself. He was made to help people, and while helping himself was always something that came first, it was always with the intent of helping others. He was expecting Sayha to answer the question of why he’d be useful in a guild in the first place given his lack of pacts made thus far, but whether or not she did was left to be seen.

Fletcher was caught off guard by her guild question, which was no surprise. She was well-known for her tangents of thoughts… or at least lightly known by them. Or maybe only one person on that side knew about it… but that was for another time. Sayha was quite surprised that Fletcher hadn’t received any invites from the other guilds. He explained that because of his lack of being in a guild, he was pretty independent, and he referred back to a dungeon the two of them had done together with Dumah, a mutual acquaintance. Though, he did mention that he was working on leveling on his own and that wasn’t his choice. Then, he asked why Sayha had asked him the question.
“Well, I was just thinking about Hiro, my guild leader and friend. Usually when I go out and do duo-hunting or question, he’s usually my partner in crime,” Sayha replied, “He’s a good guy. I don’t think there’s anyone he wouldn’t get along with. If you’re looking for a guild, Aprocrypha’s the name of the guild. I’m the newest member, and I don’t have any officer privileges or anything like that so I’m not sure if I can do official invites or anything like that. But you should think about it. It be great to have another friend in the guild.” Sayha smiled, “Though it’s not like an answer is needed right now. Take your time and think about it. In the meantime though, let’s keep hunting.”
Sayha nodded at Fletcher and started walking through the fields more. In the distance, Sayha could see shadows of some figures, but she couldn’t make them out quite yet. “It looks like we’ll have company soon,” Sayha said over her shoulder to Fletcher. After a bit more walking, Sayha was able to make out the figures she had seen. The first one was a Ghostrider at level 32. It was just a few levels higher than herself so she wouldn’t have any issues dealing with it. The other two nearby the Ghostrider were two Zomboar at level 10 and level 15. Though she had thought she had seen another figure in the distance…
“I’m going to do what I did before with the stealth entrance,” Sayha told Fletcher, “I should be able to take out the two Zomboar easily… but I’m concerned that there’s an enemy missing. I thought I saw another one when we were farther off, but I could be wrong.”

Sayha’s response to Fletcher’s inquiry was more a follow up to her thinking about a friend of hers, who incidentally ran a guild of his own. He sounded nice enough, or at least that’s how Sayha made it sound. Granted, he couldn’t have been that bad if Sayha thought he was okay to be around; she seemed to have annoyances with some of the people they’d worked with together in the past, but no such tension was here. Not that Fletcher was a psychologist or trained to read people in the same way that the police had some training in profiling; he was as far as the dwarf could tell, a completely legitimate person. How Sayha phrased that last part was strange. She didn’t have office privileges to send official invitations into the guild, so does that mean she would have sent one if she could?
She told him that he had time to make a decision and that they should continue hunting. It was a fair call; there wasn’t much else they could do if it turned out that Sayha couldn’t send an invite, and even then he wasn’t sold that he’d join straight away if he was put on the spot. Having a guild and displaying it out in the open was as good as announcing which party of government voted for. He’d think on it though that he’d given the chance; having allies that were only a call away was no doubt a good selling point. With a nod they headed deeper into the fields towards another group of enemies that seemed to be holed up in the distance.
Sayha announced her intention to engage the new party of monsters the same way she had prior, eliciting a nod from the dwarf. ”Worked last time, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work again. I’ll buff you up as you head on in.” The fact that there was potentially a monster missing from this equation made Fletcher frown again. He’d need to be careful if Sayha was going to be fighting three monsters already, protecting him from a fourth was going to be hard enough already. He could deal some damage, but his attention was first and foremost needed to be on Sayha to stop her dying; one wrong move and it was over. Not to doubt the assassin’s prowess, but she wasn’t exactly made for tanking. ”I’ll keep an eye out for the fourth one if it decides to show up again and give a yell if anything happens.”
With that, Fletcher renewed the Aquarius Sigil branding on Sayha and stood back to let her get to work.

Sayha nodded at Fletcher as she activated <Death Stinger> as she drew her blades, <Silent Move> and <Hiding Entry>. She made her way towards the mob, already targeting the level 10 Zomboar first. It wouldn’t stand a chance. Once she was in range to attack, she started right away, “<Quick Draw>.” Once she slashed the Zomboar, it exploded into bubbles, alerting the other two monsters. The Ghostrider attacked her instantly with its <Will-o-Wisp> attack which Sayha couldn’t dodge. Instead, she slashed at the fire orb with her left sword, deflecting some of the damage. Once that attack was deflected, Sayha targeted the second Zomboar, “<Sword Rain Flurry>.” Ten quick stabs took most of the Zomboar’s damage, and her poison finished the job. It, too, exploded into bubbles.
Sayha, though, felt like something was off, but she couldn’t focus on that thought as the Ghostrider attacked with its <Soul Taint> attack. Thankfully, Sayha was able to jump out of the attack just in time. She dashed towards the Ghostrider, “<Deadly Dance>.” She slashed her blades forward in an X pattern, dealing some damage. However, it also dealt Sayha damage as well. It was the monster’s Passive ability, <Corrupt Body>. She had a pretty good feeling Fletcher would get in a bunch of healing practice in… not that he needed it.
Sayha jumped back from the Ghostrider, waiting for some of her abilities to come off cooldown. Besides, the Ghostrider would probably attack her soon.
What Sayha didn’t see, though, was another monster, a level 30 Ripper Jack, sneak up behind her.

Sayha made off with a nod to engage the monsters. Fletcher on the other hand kept an eye out for this elusive fourth monster that may have just been hiding in wait for the quishier of the two party members to be left unguarded. It was for that reason that Carbuncle took up a spot somewhere between Sayha and Fletcher just in case either of them needed a protective barrier or some sudden healing. It was the most logical place for it, although being some distance away from Fletcher did make it seem that the dwarf was literally a sitting duck. In a sudden flash of steel the first monster was down, which was no surprise given the one she’d targeted first was dwarfed by twenty levels held over it by the assassin.
The other two monsters had turned on Sayha for dispatching one of their own and retaliated. A ball of fire snaked its way to Sayha and impacted on her blade, a section of her health disappearing from her associated bar. It looked like it would’ve hurt less if the weapon hadn’t bore the brunt of the attack, but Fletcher and Carbuncle were already on it. In a flash, a ruby light rained down on Sayha, bringing her HP back up and giving her a minor barrier. She had already turned on the second boar and had dispatched that as well with her go to move of stabbing it repeatedly until it died. It lacked imagination, but it sure as hell was flashy and efficient; Fletcher could respect that. Another boar became bubbles leaving the Ghostrider left to deal with. Sayha dodged another attack and re-entered, blades drawn and opened up with some other kind of slashing move.
Something was odd though; while Sayha had the upper hand, her HP was depleting with every strike that she had placed on the Ghostrider, bypassing the shield. This was an annoyance, and if left unchecked a pain, but nothing that couldn’t be fixed. Fletcher glowed a pale warm light as he cast Heal, the same light engulfing the wounds on Sayha and offsetting the damaged caused by the Ghostrider’s passive; it wasn’t a strong heal, but it’d do. Breathing out a sigh, Fletcher brought his attention back to the front just to catch the fourth monster enter the battle, and as luck would have it, the two remaining monsters had Sayha flanked. ”Sayha! Another one coming up on your rear!” He called out over the battlefield, and letting Carbuncle enter the scramble, providing some cover for Sayha if only to deter the monster from attacking her from behind. Fletcher had a few options, but after what Sayha had said before about not having any hate-grabbing abilities, attacking the new monster outright could just land him in trouble; for now he had to rely on Carbuncle and Sayha to do most of the fighting while he kept them healthy; worst case scenario he’d summon another creature to give them assistance, but he’d rather not risk the drain on his MP just yet.

Sayha heard Fletcher call to her, and she turned to see a Ripper Jack, getting ready to attack. Fletcher’s Carbuncle jumped between her and the Jack. This made the Jack seem to hesitate, and Sayha was able to jump way from being between the two monsters. Now she had two monsters that were near her level. It sounded like fun. “<Accel Dance>,” Sayha dashed towards the Ripper Jack and slashed and stabbed at it for a few moments. Her poison now affected it, and she had its aggro. Just as scissors appeared on the Jack, Sayha summersaulted backwards. Now Fletcher would be able to start DPSing if he so chose to. “Fletch, focus on the Ghostrider if you attack,” Sayha called out. Magic-based attacks wouldn’t be affected by its passive.
Sayha turned her focus back on the Jack. She ran towards him and readied her next assault. Her <Accel Dance> was still active so she continued her onslaught of stabbing and slashing. Once <Accel Dance> faded, her cooldowns for her other abilities were up. Not that she would be able to attack right away.
The Jack made red knives appear, and Sayha quickly tumbled out of their firing aim. A <Will-o-Whisp> appeared hit Sayha square on the shoulder, but the shield Fletcher had given her absorbed most of the damage. She switched targets to the Ghostrider to make sure she would continue to have its aggro. She ran towards the monster and quickly slashed forward, “<Deadly Dance>.” Slight darkness damage hurt her again, but there wasn’t anything she could do about it.
Sayha jumped back, away from the Ghostrider. Her poison was working fairly well on the monster… both monsters actually. They were both getting lower and lower by the second. The Jack, however, was lower than the Ghostrider.
Sayha took some deep breaths, quickly calculating how to proceed.

With Carbuncle in position and Sayha warned of the incoming monster, she responded by ducking out of the way and reassessing her position in this battle. She must’ve known Fletcher’s feelings on being able to help out by attacking it from the fact she turned on the new monster immediately, doing one of her flashy sword skills to deal a bit of damage and inflict it with poison. With her sudden strikes, it was thoroughly after her and by no means paying the summoner any attention, and for that Fletcher was glad. Her call came out saying he was free to attack, and he was all too ready to oblige. Drawing his hand back he pointed to the Ghostrider. ”Elemental Bolt!” From his hand rocketed a bolt of light elemental energy, streaking across the space between the dwarf and the enermy.
As the bolt impacted on the monster, Fletcher checked his HP and found that it was untouched by the monster’s passive. That was a nice thing to find out for sure; although he’d have to wait the seconds by until he had another chance to use it again. With Sayha adequately ready to deal with the Ripper Jack, Carbuncle turned on the Ghostrider as well and began clawing at it, suffering from the passive but dealing damage to the monster all the same. Seconds ticked by and Fletcher shot it with another bolt of magic, Carbuncle taking a few paces away from the beast with its HP now sitting at half from passive damage alone. Sayha sprung in and retained aggro, striking at the Ghostrider some more before leaping back.
Both mosnters were dying slowly from the residual damage that Sayha had applied on both of them, with the Ripper Jack now lower than the Ghostrider in HP. Assassins were much better at dealing damage, and if this wasn’t evidence to the fact Fletcher wasn’t sure what would be sufficient. Fletcher gestured over Sayha and targeted her with another Heal, noticing that some more damage had been applied since he had last checked and watched as the cooldown on his Elemental Bolt ticked down to zero once again, fully expecting the battle be over before he was able to cast again.

Fletcher was doing quite a bit of damage to the Ghostrider, but Sayha was able to keep its aggro thanks to her poison. Sayha noticed that Fletcher’s companion, Carbuncle, had started to attack the Ghostrider as well. That was a very good thing for her. It meant that Sayha changed her target to the Ripper Jack. It would die with her next attack. Sayha dashed to be near the Ripper Jack. “<Sword Rain Flurry>,” she stabbed the Jack ten times quickly, and it exploded into bubbles after her final stab. Now only one more left. Sayha turned both herself and her attention to the Ghostrider. Thanks to Fletcher, it was one more hit away from death. And Sayha had just the attack.
“<Quick Draw>,” Sayha dashed and sliced the Ghostrider. A moment after she slashed, it exploded into bubbles as well, thanks to her poison.
Once again, Sayha looked around to make sure that there weren’t any other enemies that would attack them nearby. Just a little ways away, she saw a small group of Mini Jacks and Helio Jacks. They were all significantly lower than she was, and they wouldn’t attack her or Fletcher unless they were provoked.
Sayha sheathed her blades for the time being. She needed to rest for a moment as her MP had gotten a bit lower than she intended. Sayha turned and walked her way back to Fletcher.
“Well, that was rather interesting,” Sayha said, “The only other enemies nearby are some lower-leveled Jacks that we can deal with fairly easily. I just need to let my MP restore a bit, and then we can move on.”

The next time Fletcher looked, Sayha had finished off the Ripper Jack. Another series of thrusts and it was just a mass of bubbles he figured, that seemed to be her method of choice in dispatching these things. The dwarf’s Elemental Bolt was still on cooldown as the attention shifted to the Ghostrider. It had the tiniest of slivers left on his HP bar, so it was no surprise that after one well placed strike the monster burst into another mass of bubbles just like the monster that was standing next to it mere seconds before. Sayha started looking around to double check the safety of their location and Fletcher joined in all the same. Sayha’s MP was running low, so if they were to keep fighting, then they’d be in trouble unless the assassin had thought to bring MP potions.
Carbuncle joined in the party a little late and only started surveying the area when the two non-summoned people relaxed. Fletcher checked his own MP and dismissed Carbuncle for good measure. They weren’t in any immediate danger, but having some reserves of MP was going to be better than finding it draining as they rested. Fletcher nodded as Sayha explained their situation, pointing out the MP situation that he’d already picked on. Having some other enemies around at a lower level meant they were in all senses of the word, safe for the time being, leading the dwarf to think back to Sayha’s comments about a guild. ”Yeah, a rest would do us good.” He said dismissively, not intending to be rude. His mind was just mulling over whether or not he was invited to a guild or not.
Bailin had at least been clear cut about it, and that was at a time where Fletcher was more intent on just making a place of his own rather than worrying about allegienes. The world was changing slowly for him the more he saw of it, and it had become clear that one could not do half of what he wished, and even the things that he was sometimes thrown into, by himself. He took a seat on the ground and ran his hands through his beard. Should he just ask? Was that just the easy was to put his mind at ease? ”Sayha. Clarify something for me.” He spoke in a calm tone, clearly thinking about his he was to phrase his question. ”You said that you couldn’t offer me an official invitation in to the guild for authority reasons. I’m paraphrasing, I know, but tell me: If you did have such an authority, am I to assume you would have made an invitation to Apocrypha formally?” He looked at Sayha with a serious look, not berating, but more businesslike; he would keep thinking on this if they kept going, so knowing now would at least put his curiosity to rest.

Fletcher agreed with a break, and Sayha took that opportunity to sit down, not bothering to remove her swords from her belt. It was a beautiful day, and Sayha let herself relax a bit as her MP came back naturally. She wasn’t in the habit of using Health or Mana pots, but if she was going to continue to solo things, it would be something she would need to look into. Fletcher interrupted her soloing thoughts and asked her to clarify something for him. All in all, he was asking if she would have invited him to Apocrypha if she was able to.
“Yes, I would,” Sayha said, “You’re a good guy, and I consider you a friend… before this Catastrophe happened, I used to jump from guild to guild in all of the different MMO games I played. I never stuck around in a guild long enough because I couldn’t find what I was looking for. I finally found what I was looking for in Apocrypha, and I think that you will be able to find whatever you’re looking for in this guild as well. Actually give me a sec, Fletch.”
Sayha pulled up her interface and her Friends List. After briefly reading the names, Sayha clicked on Hiro’s name to initiate a Telepathic Call.
“Hey, Hiro,” Sayha said into the call, “It’s Sayha. I have a quick question for you. Am I able to offer guild invites?” Hiro responded, and Sayha nodded. “Okay, that sounds good. I’ll let you know.” And Sayha hung up the call.
“Okay so I can offer invites, and Hiro would just have to finalize them,” Sayha turned to Fletcher, standing up, “So Fletcher, would you be interested in joining Aprocrypha?”
((Hopefully that makes sense since so that both IC and OOC match kind of))

Fletcher assumed, but even hearing that Sayha’s mindset was to invite him was still a little bit surprising. It was great news in every sense of the gesture, but then Sayha continued by explaining why. He was flattered, truly, hearing that she regarded him not only as a decent person and also as a friend. He’d developed a comparable level of fondness for the assassin, although when he thought about it, he knew very little about her. If anything, perhaps this would just be a chance for them to get to know one another better; it hardly mattered, but the real world was still recent enough to play a part in what people were like; they were more the numbers that made up their stats.
Sayha’s story then went into how she jumped around in guilds in other games prior to the Catastrophe. He could respect that; he’d run into a few nasty individuals in some of the other games he’d played and only after being around them for a while. Apocrypha seemed like the place to be after the mysterious commend Sayha said about her finding what she was looking for in the guild and she thought that Fletcher would find the same. Before the dwarf could reply, Sayha asked him to wait and jumped on the line to Hiro.
She was given the go ahead to offer invites it seemed, all that would be required was the guild leader to rubber stamp the application and it was sorted. After Sayha asked formally, there was a slight pause, Fletcher dipping his head with a soft smile. ”I’d be honoured if you’d have me. After all, an old man like myself being wanted and being told as such is a good enough sell for me to say it’s a decent bunch of people to be with. Sign me up, Sayha.”

Sayha gleamed when Fletcher agreed to join Aprocrypha. She was more excited about his agreeing to join in a while. “That’s great!” Sayha exclaimed, “Once I take care of this batch of Jacks, we can head back to Londinium, and I can send you the guild invitation. I think this game’s kind of weird that way that you have to be in a certain building in order to add people to the guild, but there’s not much to do about it other than just go with the flow.” Sayha checked her MP quickly. It was still regenerating, but she had more than enough for the time being.
The Jacks Sayha had seen earlier had come closer to inspect the two of them. There were a total of two level 10 Helio Jacks and a level 5 Mini Jack. Sayha drew her swords and targeted one of the Helio Jack, “<Quick Draw>.” Sayha dashed for the Jack and killed it upon impact. That made the other two Jacks mad, but Sayha didn’t give them a chance to react. “<Deadly Dance>,” Sayha targeted the other Helio Jack and killed it upon hit as well. Her final attack for the Mini Jack was overkill, but she wanted to end it quickly, “<Sword Rain Flurry>.”
The final Jack exploded into bubbles, and Sayha sheathed her swords again, heading back over to Fletcher.
“Well, my <Call to Home> spell is set to the home I bought in Moon Dance Forest so there really is no fast way for me to get to Londinium,” Sayha told Fletcher, “So we could walk back together if that’s good with you.”

The agreeance to the invitation went well, and Sayha’s expression was enough of a testament to that. She was in a hurry to get back to Londinium it seemed, already talking about the plans from here on to get the induction into the guild finalised. It was a little bit of a pain, but if the game systems were still in place to have them be in a set area before being added into a guild, then there was nothing they could really do about it. Sayha was of the same mind. The monsters that Sayha had sized up before they took their break had wandered closer, and wanting to get back sooner rather than later, Sayha leapt into action with blades drawn.
Fletcher stood up, knowing full well that Sayha’s determination to get them done sooner was going to be what ended the battle fast, leaving him with little to do otherwise. He looked to his MP and pulled out a potion, drinking it to bring himself back up a little closer to full. If Sayha wanted to get back to Londinium, then they had a limited teleportation skill in Call to Home, walking, or perhaps if Sayha had acquired some kind of mount they could ride. That’s when it hit him; they could ride, and this was the perfect chance for him to try out something that he’d been meaning to do for a long time. He’d need some preparation, but while Sayha mopped up those last few monsters he could get their passage back sorted.
Inhaling deep through the nose and then out through the mouth, Fletcher began to concentrate. If the trials undertaken during the times he’d helped the Messier Sages had taught him anything, the more one applied themselves the more their powers flourished. The more their powers flourished, the more that they as adventurers could grow and truly synchronise with what role they had in this world. The more he thought about it, the closer to godhood each and every one of them were slowly becoming, but was that the end of their evolution? There was only one way to find out; and that was to push the borders of what they perceived to be.
He held out his hands palms up, eyes closed and head tilted upwards slightly. His face held a serene yet focused composure, mana starting to surge around him and causing the clothing on him to ripple slightly. He was gathering power, focusing as best he could rather than just snapping his fingers like he normally would have done. The first burst and felled cry of monsters sounded out, followed quickly by a second and a third; Sayha was done, and faster than he’d thought. Perhaps it was just how he’d perceived time after being in a semi-trance, being unable to completely go under through lack of training. Small embers crackled around his body in the space between their reality and the spirit world, stirring the beast he was trying to call forth.
Sayha said something about not having a fast way back, causing Fletcher to smile as he focused, before simply and calmly stating; ”I’m working on that. Just a moment.” Sweeping one of his hands in the space before him and grabbing just before his chest something intangible but struggling against his hand. It lasted for all of a second before a vibrant plume of flames erupted from the space to the side before the two adventurers. Speaking in just a whisper, Fletcher called out to Salamander. ”Hear me, of valiant beast of war; echoing through time and space, heed the voice of creation’s call and stand by your master. Crimson wings of hellfire’s plane, deliver unto us thy wingbeat and roar of the winged beast. Summon Follower: Salamander!”
As the name of the beast was called, a roar echoed through the vicinity of the two adventurers and from the plume of fire emerged a large dragon, characteristics and features similar to what Sayha would recognise as the small dragon that floated around Fletcher as of late, except much bigger. The dragon eyed Fletcher silently for a moment before dropping a wing as a ramp for him to clamber up and take a spot on Salamander’s back. Fletcher looked at Sayha, absolutely thrilled. ”Always wanted to give this a shot! Salamander should be able to get us there much faster than walking back to Londinium! Climb aboard and let’s go!”
All in all, the pair made it back to Londinium with Salamander dropping them just outside the front entrance before Fletcher’s MP dried up. It was a draining task but indeed much faster than walking. No doubt that if he levelled up some more he could fly further, but he’d need to get in contact with Capsule again to purchase some more potent MP potions as well. Wouldn’t want to be running out of mana mid-flight, after all.
