"Well, this looks like it could be the place, Skrowe." Dorian had been told of an area of Londinium only a few days prior to today, a part of the railway known as St. Pancras Station. It had been explained to him that the station had seen better days, and due to lack of use, many Adventurers and Landers came together to refurbish it into a crafting hub of a sort, where those with a knack for the skills in putting things together go to study, practice, and sell their creations. Without a proper house or establishment available to him, it was as good a place as any to begin his plans. With the time he had spent in his cooking, as well as the time he had spent in this new world, he had quickly come up with a selection of ideas for new recipes; having heard nothing of their existence within the world yet, he felt it was necessary to try his luck at the craft and see what he could come up with. And so, preparing himself for the task at hand, he had gone out into the market and gathered all the materials he would need for the R&D he was going to crack into.
Having gathered his hefty bag of ingredients, he had scoured the station for a good 20 minutes before finally finding a suitable place to bunker down and set up. A quaint little kitchenette area, in-built into one of the derelict buildings within the station; it had everything from clean counters, a variety of tools to work with, an ice box for freezing things, and a handy wood oven, a cooking implement he was well versed in the use of. It even had a functioning spit that he could work with. Gathering himself through the door, he delicately placed his bag of goods onto the counter, sweeping with his hand to make room, only to find his arm collecting a grand amount of dust. His features coalescing into a look of disgust, he quickly got to work with a broom and other cleaning equipments strewn about to make the place nicer and tidier. "No sense cooking in a workspace that'll contaminate anything I try to put together." The Shaman chuckled softly, nodding at his work before leaning forward against the counter, looking through his bag to decide upon what he would put his time into researching first.
Finally deciding on roast meals, he picked out the ingredients necessary for his first delve into the art of research; he had done a sort of study on the subject when he helped with the Magitech Oven back at the Log Inn with Fletcher, but this was his first time doing something on his own, and in his area of expertise. He checked the materials in his head with each motion of his hand, pulling out a 2 kilogram sized slab of pittered boar - he was unfamiliar with cooking boar, but with a lack of pigs in this world (or at least he assumed so), it was probably the next best thing. Going over the rest of the ingredients, he checked off: a jar of mustard; a container of whole black pepper; a selection of dried goods such as fennel seeds, coriander, and other mixed herbs; a small vial of paprika, smoked; and finally, basil and parsley, also dried. With his materials set out over the table, he gathered his bearings, grabbing out a mortar and pestle for the next step of the process.

With the mortar and pestle at the ready on the counter-top, Dorian began picking out the ingredients that he would need to mush together within the set of tools. "Tell me, Skrowe; can you smell what the Shaman is cooking?" Emitting a soft chuckle at the humour of his own joke, he continued on with the process, ignoring the blatant and yet mental eye-roll that had burned into the back of his skull. Selecting first the whole black pepper, Dorian dashed a decent amount of it into the mortar, taking a hold of the pestle and grinding upon the contents to make it a finer, grainy substance. Once that was done, he moved onto the dried goods, adding the fennel seeds and coriander, along with the other assortments of mixed herbs, grinding them into the black pepper and making it all gather into one ingredient. Want me to take over for you, big guy? The Shaman groaned in reply, nodding his head. Too bad, get to work. Rolling his eyes, Dorian made a grumpy face, before begrudgingly resuming the grind.
Adding in the smoked paprika, he got back into the swing of it, pumping the pestle into the curvature of the mortar to gather and mulch the ingredients inside together into a collective material, grainy in texture. "And last, but not least..." Grabbing pinches of the dried basil and parsley, Dorian sprinkled them into the mixture, resuming the grind until there was only one mash left behind. Tapping the end of the pestle against the mortar's brim, he watched the grains fall back into the mix, until he had a sufficient amount gathered. "Next up!" Setting aside the mortar, he moved onto the next item on the agenda, marinating the pork... or boar, in this case, though really it could be considered a pretty accurate substitute. "Hmmm, this should be interesting," he muttered under his breath, talking to himself as he gave the slab of meat a quick look over before getting to work, pulling out one of the drawers and grabbing a brush, used to paint oils and such onto meat.
Opening the container of the mustard, Dorian emptied it's contents into a separate bowl, making it easier for him to collect onto the brush. In doing so, he began transferring the marinade onto the skinned slab of Pittered Boar meat, painting it in the mustard to coat it marginally at first, gradually layering it further and further. Once that side was done he rolled it over to continue the process on the rest of the pork, once again remaining in small doses, but slowly piling it on until the entire slab was glistening under the light above. "That looks good enough to cook, wouldn't you say, Skrowe?" The Shikigami was silent for a moment, before mentally displaying his seal of approval, a raised up thumb from his chibi scarecrow hand. "Good," the Shaman muttered, glad to have his constant companion's approval; but the work was not yet done. Looking between the two items - the marinated pork and the ground up ingredients - it was time to mix and match.

Taking a long roll of paper, the material having been sufficiently grease-proofed, the Shaman rolled out a large enough piece for the slab of meat to fit on. With that set up, he took the mortar filled with his mixture of dried herbs, and began spreading it over the paper, keeping it somewhat even over the area so that it would stick collectively to the marinated boar in a consistent layer. "Now for the meat..." Grabbing his hands onto both ends of the slab, he slapped it down onto the herb covered, grease proof paper, proceeding to roll it back and forth over the paper to spread and gather the ingredients evenly over the marinated boar, humming a small ditty tune to himself in the process. Once the meat was sufficiently covered, he set it aside once again, using the paper to collect the excess dried herbs that hadn't quite stuck into a small clump, which he could use later during the roasting process. Speaking of which, time for the main event!
Dorian nodded eagerly, turning his form towards the spit that had been conveniently set up prior to his arrival; not that anyone knew he was coming here, it just seemed that this kitchen was very well equipped. "Let's get a skewering," the Shaman mused, grabbing a hold of the long metallic rod that would be used to turn the meat once the spit began burning. Moving back to the counter, he prepared the pointy end of the rod against one side of the marinated and dusted slab of boar, giving a heave and push to skewer it through, taking his time so as not to damage the meat itself. Once the rod was straight through, Dorian grabbed onto both ends, hefting the heavy meat off the counter and carrying it over to the spit. "Boy... This is a strain, even for me." Giving an audible grunt, he lowered the metal into it's assigned slot, securing it so that it wouldn't bounce off and fall apart during the cooking process.
Collecting a bunch of wooden logs and coals into the basin of the spit, he took a match and lit it, throwing it into the flammable bowl and watching as it slowly took flame, the various coals and logs fuelling the fire and bringing it to heat. "That should cook up nicely now," the Shaman muttered to himself, smiling happily as he waited patiently for the heat to rise and catch upon the meat. Once it began, he waited patiently, watching the flames crackle and spit up at the meat to slowly cook it from the outside in; gradually turning the rod, Dorian made sure every inch of the boar was cooked through evenly, the resulting smell quickly filling the room as the mixture of dried herbs and mustard began to heat and boil atop the surface. Grabbing the residue mixture of herbs that had been left behind, he sprinkled it on every so often, making sure that all of the ingredients were used effectively.
"This is going to take a while, Skrowe; hope you brought a magazine," Dorian joked, chuckling softly at himself as he continued to watch the pork cook, the wafting smell hitting his nostrils. Using his Aroma Analysis as the meat cooked, the Shaman was able to draw out the underlying strength bonus in the flavours, using the turn of the metal rod and the flickering of added spices to focus the craft on the effect he had picked out; with a little added oomph, he might be able to convert the usual bonus for meals like this, using the roasting process itself to create a pure damage buff recipe. With a little added luck, he fixed up the meal, letting the spit finish up the cooking process before quickly killing the flames. Slipping on a pair of mitts, he heaved the metal rod out of it's contained space, carrying the meat over to a tray he had set out and placing it down on top of it. "There we are, one Roast Boar." One recipe down, several more to go.

Stashing the roasted boar into his inventory for later, Dorian assessed what was left in his bag of ingredients, most of it still present; he had stocked up on quite a lot, having considered quite a numerous amount of recipes to attempt to research here in the station. Of course, he probably wouldn't be able to get to most of them, but at least he had the materials ready in case he needed to. "How about a bit of a sweet break, hmm? I could use a little snack," the Shaman muttered to his Shikigami companion, scanning over the ingredients and thinking on a recipe he could try himself on. He had made cheesecake - it was his first craft as a Chef - but had yet to try his luck at actual sweets, something that surprised even him. He recalled back to a particular fox tail who was fond of sweets, remembering the journey they had into the forests outside Londinium; perhaps he should whip up a batch of sugary goods and treat her too them some time.
Contemplating his options, Dorian decided on a basic chewy caramel recipe he had stored away in his memory bank, checking to make sure he had the ingredients for it as he rummaged into his bag of materials, pulling them out one by one as he listed them off in his head: heavy cream; unsalted butter; table salt; white sugar; corn syrup; some basic purified water; and as always, vanilla extract. Gathering the ingredients together along the counter-top, the Shaman quickly got to work, hefting out a square baking dish - roughly eight inches by eight inches - and lining it delicately with parchment paper, making sure the excess was left to overhang on the sides of the pan. "There... That should do the trick," Dorian mumbled under his breath, nodding his approval at his handiwork before resuming the process. Starting a small flame, he placed the butter, cream and salt together in a saucepan, hovering it over the flame and watching patiently as they melted together.
Once the three ingredients had become one congealed substance in the pan, he removed it from the heat, setting it aside for now and moving to the next phase of the craft; grabbing a larger pan and setting it down on the counter in amongst the materials gathered. "Needs to be a sizeable pan... You see, the sugar bubbles up with the cream and triples in size; so it'd get really messy if we used a small pan." Having explained his purpose to Skrowe, the only one listening at this point in time, Dorian gathered the aforementioned sugar, as well as the corn syrup and purified water, adding them together into the saucepan. Taking a wooden spoon from the rack, he shifted and stirred the three of them together, watching the liquids and solids mould and coalesce when the spoon stirred past, becoming a singular material entity. "Lovely," he muttered under his breath, continuing until it had collected into a thick, grainy paste, making sure to drag the spoon down the sides of the pan to avoid missing any crystals of sugar.
Stoking the flames from earlier, Dorian rested the larger saucepan over the heat as well, this time settling it on top and leaving it; one should avoid stirring sugar while it was drawn to a boil, which is exactly what he was preparing to do. This step was all about waiting, keeping a concentrated eye on the changes in appearance of the sugar. As the heat began, small bubbles starting forming on the outskirts of the pan, slowly moving inwards towards the centre of the sugar mixture as the heat kept rising, Dorian stoking and adding coals to the flame every few minutes. "There we are, just keep going..." Once the heat got high enough, the sugar became transparent, boiling rapidly within the pan; the next step of the process allowed for leeway, so Dorian decided for a stronger caramel, waiting on the sugar to heat up further and form into a darker colour, the caramel-like smell wafting off the pan and permeating the air in the room. "Excellent."

Once the sugar concoction had been boiled to a caramelised scent, Dorian took the pan off the heat quickly, making sure not to burn himself on the extremely hot metal. "Okay, now if I remember correctly, I need to whisk in..." The Shaman turned to look at the smaller pan, emitting a soft hum as he remembered the next step. Taking the cream mixture from earlier, he began pouring it into the sugary syrup, using the wooden spoon as before to whisk and stir the two of them together; as he mentioned, the sugar bubbled and swelled to three times it's own size when the cream was surreptitiously mixed in. "A gruelling process this; lots of heat required." In saying this, Dorian moved the newly formed mixture back onto the heat of the flame, having let it die back down to the temperature it had been when the sugar became transparent, and slowly stoking the fire to keep it consistently burning below the pan.
Slowly but surely, the caramel mixture started off as a soft, buttery-yellow concoction, the texture gradually boiling towards a darker, redder caramel-like ochre. Avoiding stirring the mixture any further, Dorian removed the pan from the heat once it was sufficient in it's colour, setting it down on the counter and grabbed the container for the vanilla extract. Holding the wooden spoon at the ready, he added the extract into the caramel, mixing the vanilla in slowly in marginal whisking motions, weaving the two together until it congealed smoothly. "I should make caramels more often..." With the warm mixture ready to go, Dorian pulled back over the prepared eight by eight baking dish that would serve as the mould, emptying the contents of the saucepan into the dish and using the spoon to scrape off anything that got left behind, sticking to the bottom of the pan. "And... there. Now to just leave it to set!"
And now, the time had come to enter the other end of the spectrum of temperature, as Dorian put the caramel aside, leaving it within the cooler temperatures of the room's air to slowly set it inside the dish. This would take some time, considering the heat he had poured into it before; moving himself back to sit down and rest for a few hours, he fiddled with the strapping along his various pieces of leather, an idle thought in the back of his mind surfacing, as he considered perhaps enlisting a tailor to craft him more comfortable clothes for day-to-day wear... Alas, that would have to wait, as finally, after two hours of long waiting, the Shaman stood up to see that the caramel had dropped to room temperature. "Now to just cover this up," he muttered excitedly, hovering over the baking dish and gently hoisting on it, removing the caramel from the dish and setting it down onto the counter carefully.
Grabbing a knife from the set of utensils, Dorian began idly cutting the caramels into sections moving horizontally across first, stroke after stroke of the blade down the square of sweet, before turning it to cut vertically across the already cut lines, creating a selection of smaller squares that served as the bite-size variety of sweet confections. "There, all done. What a lovely little dessert I've made; of course, who eats these just as dessert? I certainly don't." Rewarding himself for his valiant effort in the kitchen, the Shaman snagged himself one of the pieces, popping it into his mouth and chewing on it idly, a happy smile curling upon his features. That was when an idea struck him... "These things could be a lot more effective in their... effects." Dorian turned to stare with unheard of focus at the caramels, conjuring up an idea of converting these delights into something more suitable for the raging battlefields outside the city walls.

Right now, the caramels were only snacks; the HP and MP bonuses they gave were lacklustre and nothing to stick to during a battle. However, one would assume that they could be moulded into something more effective given the added attention of a focus on their abilities rather than their taste. Dorian gave a few whiffs of the snack, utilising his Aroma Analysis once more to pick out the flavours of the sweets that incorporated themselves into the two different bonuses. "Hmm," he hummed contently to himself, still idly enjoying the faint caramel scent that wafted through the air around him. He managed to find that the sweetened flavour formed by the sugar was the basis of the boost to Mana, whereas the latent texture and taste of the salt gave it that added oomf towards one's Health. Moving back to his bag of ingredients, Dorian picked out some of the Camellia sinensis he had acquired for perhaps making green tea later, deciding instead to utilise it as a base herb for his pastilles to focus on the Mana boosting properties.
Taking the first few cubes of caramels and a pinch of the tea plant, the Shaman began attempting to weave the two ingredients together, slipping the leaves into the gooey caramel and using his hands to attempt to crush them into a single material. When this didn't work, he attempted to use a bit of his own mana to fuse the two together, only to end up burning the caramels and the plant altogether. "Come on... This has to work some how..." Grunting with frustration, he toiled for a few more minutes, using up most of the caramels and the tea leaves to fuse them together, but each time it did not work. "Maybe if I... No, I tried that... What if... No, that would just do the same- Oh! How about... Ugh!" Rage building, he took one of the caramels and angrily threw it at the nearest wall, watching it catch a slightly flame from the mana weaved into his fingers and melt at the intense heat, before splattering upon the wall in a gooey mess. And then, an idea struck Dorian, his face lighting up as he saw the melted splodge of caramel slowly descend down the wall before sticking completely. "That's it!"

As he worked on cleaning up all of his previous messes, Dorian ran through the logistics of his new idea, working along with his mop on the walls and floor, removing the remnants of caramel and tea plant. "With enough heat added back into the caramel, I can easily cook and weave the herbs into it's material base, which should bring out and solidify the parts that focus on Mana restoration." His thought process was hard to track down, with various different trains running at the same time, overlapping and crashing into one another simultaneously within his brain. Dorian began to grow concern for his Shikigami companion, who no doubt was rolling inside his spot at the back of the Shaman's mind. Once the cleaning was done, Dorian quickly zipped over to the last of the batch of caramel and collect what was left, dropping them into a new, freshly cleaned pan. Turning on another flame, he stoked the heat up until it was a relatively smooth and even warmth, setting the pan down on top of it.
"Now to just let it simmer for a bit," he remarked, simmering the caramels over the heat and letting the smell waft back into the room, the sugary sweets easily melting back down into a sludge-like paste of goo. Leaving the mess to continue heating up further, going slightly brown and tacky, Dorian moved to grab what he had remaining of the Camellia sinensis, and began delicately weaving it into the melted caramel, watching as the heat began to mould and coalesce the two parts into a single whole. Continuing to add until all the tea plant was gone, he let it boil for a few more seconds before removing it from the heat, pouring it back into the mould and letting it set for another few hours. "Gosh... so much waiting." He had been lucky to have started in the early hours of the morning, otherwise he would have no more time for the rest of his ideas, but for now the sun was at a nice crested high just at the top of it's arch, signalling the start of noon. "It's going to be a long afternoon, Skrowe."

As time passed by, the scent of caramel began to grow heavy on the air, no doubt wafting out into the station proper for all the other crafters to smell, but Dorian was too focused to worry about others at this time. "Almost done, I think." The Shaman stood up from his seat nearby, wandering back over to the batch of caramel. It had set somewhat since he had left it to cool, becoming somewhat like a toffee, sticky and hard to chew through. Reasoning that it needed to be a bit easier to chow down on during battle, he decided to cut up what he had made so far, rubbing at his chin in contemplation every so often as he tried to think of what to do to make them more of a breeze to consume, something one could do literally by stashing their hand into their pocket, pulling one out, and popping it into one's mouth. That was when he remembered the chocolate he had stashed in his bag during his market trip, quickly pulling it out and setting it down into a small pan.
Simmering and hovering the pan over the heat once again, he watched it melt down into a smooth, velvety liquid, turning off the flame for the last time during this cooking process and setting aside the pan filled with melted chocolate. With the toffee batch of caramel pastilles, he began weaving and dunking them into the chocolate, before setting them down on another tray. Once they had all been covered, he turned to the icebox which he had neglected to utilise so far, sliding the tray of chocolate covered caramels into the box and letting them freeze and harden into more solid treats. Once enough time had passed, he pulled the tray out, setting it down and marvelling over his new creation. "Very nice... These will do just fine." Taking a few and trying them out, he felt the sudden invigoration of mana into his body as he crunched down on each mix of caramel and chocolate. "I'll save some for later, will I? Might come in handy." With his crafting break over, it was time to get back to work on research, and he knew just the recipe to try.

With the recipe for his roast now done and dusted, Dorian wished to move to the next item on the agenda. From what he had discovered of asking around, there was very little in the way of fancier meals, one's that aided one's appetite when consumed. An appetiser would be an interesting craft to attempt, and he had one he could definitely try out. But first, he needed the ingredients; so, once again, he delved into his bag of goods, pulling out each material necessary and checking them off in his head as he went. First, he gathered a selection of eggs, maybe eight or so; he'd need a few in order to properly gather the right idea in his mind as to how to go about crafting such a recipe. Once the eggs had been neatly arranged along the top of the counter, Dorian turned back to his bag of materials, picking out the rest with a gentle hum upon his lips. "Let's see here, what do we need," he muttered under his breath, speaking to himself, or the Shikigami, if he was listening.
Removing from the bag a jar of mayonnaise, he set it down amongst the eggs, being careful not to damage any of them, before gathering the rest of what he needed: white vinegar, the soft smell lingering around it; a bit of dried dill, a nice herb that would add to the flavour; garlic powder, ground to perfection; a pinch of cayenne pepper; a selection of cucumbers, which would need to be prepared first, but he'd get to that in a moment; and of course, the traditional salt and pepper. With all of his ingredients now set out on the table, the Shaman hefted the bag of ingredients down onto the floor and out of the way, so that he would have more room to work. "Now, before we get to anything technical, we need to slice up these cucumbers," he proclaimed, as if he was now on a reality cooking show, informing his audience of the next steps of the process; grabbing the cucumbers, he moved them to an empty spot on the counter, pulling out a cutting board and a large knife for the next procedure.
Taking the first cucumber, he began making quick thin slices with the blade of the knife, cutting off eight unpeeled cucumber slices that would go with each egg. Sliding those to one side, he moved to the rest of the cucumbers, putting down the knife for the moment and dragging out a smaller, thinner blade. With the new weapon in his hand, he took the edge down the sides of the cucumbers, peeling away the dark green skin with each draw back of his wrist to reveal the lighter green of the cucumber beneath. Once all of them had been sufficiently skinned, he set them back down on the cutting board, grabbing the larger knife once more, hovering his hand over it and clumping the cucumbers together to begin swiftly dicing them, first chopping down their lengths, then bunching them up and moving horizontally across them with the blade, repeating this process until they were left in nothing but a sizeable clump of diced blocks. "Now for the main event."

Moving the chopping block aside, the diced cucumbers and sliced pieces left on top of it for later, Dorian moved to the rest of the ingredients, starting with the eggs. "If this recipe is to work, I need these to boil..." Grabbing a large pot from the cupboards below, he took out a large canteen of water, filling the pot until he felt the surface level would cover the eggs. Once that was done, he delicately grabbed each separate egg, placing them carefully in the cold water so that they were evenly spread out and submerged. Once again, he sparked another flame, stoking it to a boiling temperature before setting the pot down on top of it. "Now to just let those boil for a bit," he muttered to himself, watching the cold water begin to bubble and boil inside the pot, the eggs being surrounded by the warmth and heat of the water, no doubt slowly hardening inside their shells. About fifteen minutes passed before the eggs were finally done, Dorian lifting the pot off the flame and quickly removing the eggs from the water, careful not to burn himself.
Giving the boiled water time to steam off and cool back down to room temperature, the Shaman submerged the hardened eggs once more, this time using the cold liquid to start peeling off the shells, letting them sink down into the bottom of the pot. With each egg he peeled, he checked to make sure no shell had stuck behind, lingering itself on the white of the boiled albumen. This is the annoying part of the process, I guess. Chuckling at the Shikigami's quick and correct statement, Dorian rolled his eyes before nodding his agreement, continuing to peel each egg, one by one, until they were all smooth oval-like orbs of white. "Now, onto the next phase." Grabbing the large knife he had used to cut the cucumbers, he began using the blade on the boiled eggs after thoroughly cleaning it's edge, slicing each one in half to create identical looking parts, the yellow yolk in the centre hardened into an easily scooped out material, which of course was important for the next few steps.

With the half-cut eggs now arranged on the counter, Dorian acquired a neat enough spoon and began delicately removing each of the yolks, scooping them out one by one with the spoon and transferring them into a secondary bowl. With each one he was gentle with his strokes, digging the edge of the spoon in before adding pressure and curving it under the yellow substance, until all of it was removed from the boiled and hardened white albumen. "Hmm, these should do nicely," Dorian idly murmured to himself, filling the silence with words so as to keep himself from going mad from the quiet. Once all the yolks were in the bowl, he moved it aside to a free section of the counter-top, taking with him the other ingredients besides the eggs for the next part of the procedure, making the yolk mixture. You should probably get another wooden spoon to stir all of this, Skrowe insisted from the back of the Shaman's mind, causing him to nod in agreement as he whipped out another wooden spoon, cleaned to perfection.
Adding in first the mayonnaise, Dorian dove right in at the beginning, swirling the two materials around and through one another in the bowl, the yolk and creamy egg-like ingredient easily meshing together. Next, he took the white vinegar, splashing a bit of it in before sprinkling in the dried dill; with those added, he resumed stirring, scooping and squeezing the ingredients together until they were sufficiently combined. Last but not least was the garlic powder, a sprinkle of that added around the edge of the mix, and of course the cayenne pepper. Once all the ingredients were in the bowl, the Shaman hummed away a soft tune, mixing them all together with the curved bowl of his wooden spoon, watching the various colours melt and mix together into a single mixture, coalescing until nothing of the original ingredients was left. Moving to the cutting board where he had prepared the cucumber, he slid the diced cubes into the yolk mix, followed by a few dashes of salt and pepper.
Once all of this had been mulched and stirred into a single coexistence, it was time to finish the preparations; arranging each of the eggs carefully on a platter, Dorian began scooping small dollops of the yolk mixture into the now empty cavities where the yolks had been, easily filling each one to the top and then some with each scoop of his spoon. "Gosh, these already look so scrumptious," Dorian muttered under his breath, smiling softly at his creations as he put in the last of the yolk mixture. "Excellent. Now for the finishing touches." Taking the cucumber slices from the cutting board, he topped each one of the eggs, slipping them vertically into the yolk mixture. With the first appetiser done, he grabbed at one of them and popped it into his mouth, invigorated by the taste and the small bite-size taste. "Mmm, yes... These will do nicely." Quickly stashing the food item into his interface inventory for later use, he returned to cleaning up the kitchen area, thinking on what he could do next.
