Question about Bards...

If I start as a bard, and then claim puppeteer as a Sub-Class can I have three weapons on my character, except have one of them in my inventory for future use?  For example, I choose a single handed spear, a beginner instrument that's really small like a recorder, and then go with having a puppet in a magical bag.

Yes, that is allowed. You are also allowed to switch between your inventory during RP threads without having to officially change it up in your profile as well.

So if I wanted to I could switch out a harmonica or dagger for a puppet during combat if feasible?

I kind of ponder this because it seems like a puppet and pretty much any kind of musical instrument would take two hands to use normally.

Yes, control bars would generally need both hands to use properly despite it taking up only one slot. As my character is also a Puppeteer, I usually take this moment to put away my character's primary weapons to switch to puppet control. You can make this a little easier at higher levels of puppet mastery. The level 11 skill in particular lets you wield weapons in your puppet's hands.

But as a word of thumb, the RP works similarly to how it would work in real life. It may be feasible to use any two combinations of 1-hand slot equips, but generally it's a lot easier to wield one at a time.
