Akira yawned as she walked down by the riverside early morning. She had no idea why she had woken up so early but she sure was tired. What’s worse was that couldn’t fall back asleep so Akira had just decided to take a walk. She decided that the walk would be on the river that ran through Londinium purely because it was pretty and also partly because she might feel like jumping into the river at some random point to see if she could actually swim in Elder Tale without dying. Akira stretched her arms out and wagged her beautiful blonde fox tail. The sun would be all the way up soon and it would be pretty when it reflected on the thames river. Akira frowned when she considered the fact that she had never really had the chance to see the sunrise or even the water reflect the sun’s light. For Akira it had always been school then go home and do nothing but read tons of history books everyday and all day. Akira hadn’t really wanted to go outside at all, well truth be told she had wanted to go outside but due to being bullied profusely every time she went outside during school and recess and etc she had developed a bad relationship with the outside. If Akira was lucky she’d be able to develop a nice relationship with the outside world while she was in Elder Tale, which would hopefully forever considering the fact that Akira absolutely LOVED the game. It was beautiful and she would finally be able to make friends. Akira grinned wide at that thought and looked out at the river to watch it as the sun rose. A few minutes later the sun did rise and the river and sunrise were absolutely stunning. Akira plopped herself down on the river’s bank to just stare at the river. She did just that for what seemed like about 10 minutes but ended up actually being an hour. Akira got up from the bank and started walking down the road haphazardly. Akira started humming beethoven’s ninth as she walked around and admired the quietness of Londinium extremely early in the morning. She smiled and looked to see if she could find any players she could be friends too. Akira soon happened upon a tall man with black hair and blue eyes. He appeared to be extremely scary. Akira didn’t really want to be friends with him and started to turn away before he could notice her but then she remembered how she hand been ignored and bullied over her appearance in the real world and so she turned back towards the tall man and said, ” Hello! My name is Akira! I’m in the Vylbrand Academy guild and I hope we can be friends!”

‘T was early in the morning when the warden made a small walk along the riverside of the Londinium river, formerly known as the Thames, by some, if the warden recalled correctly, pronounced as the Thems. In the calm of the early morning the warden enjoyed the morning sun rising up over the river, the light reflecting in broken shimmers of golden light as the warden stood there, staring into the nothingness as he cast a tall shadow behind him, the reflected and broken light caressing his face, like a gently lover’s touch. [break][break] These moments of peace, quiet and solitude were moments he loved, never truly having been able to experience them in the real world or the old world, a world of concrete and asphalt. A world of dreadful routine and little excitement. [break][break] It was amidst this peace and quiet that a lone character came up to the warden, introducing itself as Akira, a name which sounded all too familiar. “I know of you Akira.” Spoke the warden, cold as ever. “Do you enjoy music?” the warden asked, warmer with a gentle smile upon his face as he closed his eye and listened to an inaudible piece of music as the sun shone upon his normally stern and cold face. [break][break] After a short while his face turned back to the regular cold, hard and stern look it nowadays normally had, whilst still staring into the emptiness in front of him. “So, pray tell me, Akira, how do you feel about Vylbrand?” he asked with a stern face yet it came accompanied with a gentle smile, without looking at the short foxtail. Akira watched as the tall quite scary looking warden asked questions and looked out over the Thames river. The changes in his face were so drastic when he didn’t look cold and stern. She was extremely taken aback by the sight and almost forgot to answer the warden’s first question. Akira turned towards the river and stayed silent for a few seconds before thoughtfully answering, “ Truth be told I’ve never really had much of an interest for it during my real life. I couldn’t really bear it because every single song reminded me of things and also because I always had my nose in a history book.” Akira turned back towards the warden. “ Do tell, what is your name?” she asked with a soft smile on her face. Akira watched the warden’s expression go back to a cold and stern one right before he asked a new question. Akira frowned and blinked a few times. What she thought of Vylbrand Academy? Akira put a finger on her lip as she was thinking. Right before she started speaking Akira took her finger off her lip before answering with, ” Well I haven’t really had a chance to do anything in it yet. I guess I more neutral about it than anything. When I was making my choice between joining the guild or Noihara I chose this one because it was more military oriented and I’d like to be a badass. I’m not particularly that interested in helping the people and adventurers of Elder Tale. Like I said earlier I wish to be a badass. I have my own reasons of course. In real life I was never able to fight at all or even really properly defend myself on any levels. I want to become strong or in this case a badass because this game certainly enables it. A military oriented guild would be the easiest way to get to that goal.” Akira paused for a few moments and looked at the warden and shrugged with a somewhat remorseful and apologetic look before continuing, ” But all in all I guess you could say I feel that it’s means to meet an end. You probably didn’t want to hear all that anyway I guess. Though I do have another question for you. How do you know of me? I’m only a mere level one and an extremely unknown one at that. I haven’t even done anything that would warrant any interest in myself…” Her voice trailed off at the end as a thought occurred to her and she quickly blurted out another question,” Could you possibly be one of the higher ups in Vylbrand Academy?” Akira sratched the side of her face nervously. She had never talked that much before in the history of ever let alone blurt out things like she had just done. Akira could clearly see that Elder Tale would be different. She already on her way to finally having confidence and possibly making her in-game personality a reality for her. Akira unconsciously smiled brightly at the thought and her bright green eyes also glittered with lots of hope. She really hates talking about her real life though. Er rather the bullying. If you asked her what her hobbies were or what level of schooling she had Akira would probably answer but you'd need to really win her over if you want like a better insight on her real life and not what's just in the bio :p

Silently the warden listened as Akira answered his questions. Though the lass talked quite a lot, the gist of her response was that she hadn’t bothered much with music back in the real world or rather: back from where they had come before arriving in this world. She wanted to know his name as well as if he was one of the higher ranked folks of the guild. Her reasons for choosing Vylbrand was due to the militaristic nature of the guild, which made the warden relieved he had chosen the course he had with the guild reformations. [break][break] “My name is Bailin, guild master of Vylbrand.” He responded curtly after Akira had finished answering. “Have you ever stopped and listen? There is a certain beauty to the silence.” He continued, “Can you hear the strings?” the warden asked as he closed his eye and raised his right hand slowly, as to give the pace of the imaginative orchestra, “Now add the brass and then the crescendo.” As he continued to give the pace whilst humming Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture. [break][break] “Yes, it is true that Vylbrand is fairly the only militarised guild around. The idea behind it is so we, as Vylbrand, become a grand force of badasses, as you put it.” The warden explained, cold yet a hint of thaw and kindness resounding in his voice. [break][break] “Our intent is to train all of our members to fight, to defend yourself as well as those that are in need. However, we are not a guild of noble knights in shining armour and I expect no quarter to be given to those that oppose us. This is one of the things I deem to make us more effective and deter those who intend harm from doing so. Which is, I think, one of the many descriptions one could hang on the term badass, don’t you think?” he spoke resolute, stern but with a small smile upon his face. [break][break] “Is there anything you’d like to do or perhaps learn? I have a policy regarding having time for mine, so to speak. Or perhaps you desire to talk some more?” the warden asked kindly as he enjoyed the imaginative music as he stared into the distance as the sun rose further and further up. [break][break]

“What I would like to do or learn while in Vylbrand?” Akira pondered outloud both to herself and to Bailiin, who happened to be the guild master of Vylbrand Academy. As she was thinking on the answer, aside from the obvious one of becoming a badass, Akira used a spare hand to flip her long blonde haired backwards as a soft breeze started to sway around Bailin and herself. She stayed silent as she thought on her answer and looked at the river watching the way the sunrise’s colors bounced and reflected on the water. It was honestly very pretty. As she stayed silent and thought the answer suddenly came to Akira in what was likely described as a eureka moment. Before she knew it she was already speaking her answer loud enough for the warden to hear. “ Well I’d guess that all in all I just want to fight or rather learn how to fight and be able to protect myself. As I said earlier, I’d like to become a badass, not just so I can fight and do cool stuff though. I also feel like it could give me more confidence in myself..,” Akira’s voice trailed off as she thought back onto her true personality that would never ever show itself in the game. She quickly laughed in a silly way that wouldn’t give anything away and shrugged before continuing,” Not that I don’t have enough confidence haha. In fat I’m brimming with it but you can never have enough confidence in yourself, or in general. But don’t think I have a hug ego or anything. I’m not a narissist or anything like that. Don’t go thinking you let an asshole into the guild an---” Akira cut herself off and dawned a huge frown on her face and looked at Bailin with an irritated look. “ You’re not listening are you? Your eyes look a little glazed over man.” She pouted after making her statement and pointed at Bailin as if to prove her point. Word count: 336 Tags: Bailin Notes: sorry it took so long to get up. A long silence remained in play for quite some time after the warden had asked if Akira had wanted to learn or do something within the guild. Assuming the lass was pondering, as well as being taken by surprise the warden closed his eye and faced the sky, letting the breeze play with his hair, coat and beard whilst he kept his hands folded behind his back. After a while the lass spoke again. To become a badass was her goal and to learn how to fight. On being a badass the warden knew little, though for some reason scuttlebutt had it he was seen as a rather imposing character, yet it had left him wondering why people thought that. Learning to fight was something; however, he could assist with. [break][break] “It takes patience to listen, especially when asked quite an open question.” Bailin spoke, gentle, yet cold as a small smile appeared upon his face. “Now draw your sword and take up your battle position.” He instructed. If the lass wanted to dance, she’d better be willing to learn the paces. “Confidence comes from skill. Death comes from falsehoods and big mouths.” The warden lectured, turning towards Akira, eyeing and sizing her up as she stood there, pointing a finger at him and pouting. Slowly removing the smile from his face the warden turned his face back to its more normal state, stern, cold and unyielding as he towered over the small foxtail, his eye staring at her with a cold hint in it, his other eye hidden behind its eye-patch. Akira frowned when she heard the warden’s last comment about confidence coming from skill. She got what Bailin was saying for the most part but she didn’t agree with his idea of confidence coming from skill. One could confident without necessarily coming from skills, now in battle yes it could mean death but in other areas of life it was merely a way to present oneself. Although coming from her it was kind of hypocritical considering she herself had legit no confidence at all. As Akira was thinking this she pulled up her inventory and materialized both of her red katanas into her hands already unsheathed. Akira positioned herself into her battle position and faced the warden. “ So like this? I fight with two swords so by battle position I just kind of assumed you need me in all of fighting capacity, or more simply what my battle position is normally like.”
With that Akira looked around and discovered that even though it’d been a bit of time since the sun had risen there was no one on the Thames river bank which was honestly kind of odd. “ This is straight of out left field off topic but uh Mr. Bailin,” she passed after saying that not really knowing if that’s what she should even call him before continuing after a few seconds. “ Do you know why there aren’t any people other than us over here in this general area? Shouldn’t people be out and about by now?” she asked. Akira didn’t really know all that much about Elder Tale seeing as she was still a level one and hadn’t really played the game all that much before she was stuck in the game. Akira shook her head a bit to get herself out of being lost in thought and looked at Bailin again careful to keep herself in her battle position. The swashbuckler drew her weapons, asked for confirmation before switching the topic to something that apparently had her bothered, yet it was of little concern to the warden. [break][break] “A string runs from your belly button to just above your knees. If you are a boy you would understand this quicker. If not it will take a bit more time.” The warden spoke, cold but with the slightest hint of a grin on his lips. “That string remains there with every step you take, every move you make. It is your balance.” Gently the warden stepped to Akira’s side, placing her between him and the river. “Your balance is key. If you are unbalanced, you shall fall. If you fall, you will die.” He continued, gently giving a shove to Akira’s shoulder, hard enough to be annoying, gentle enough to avoid her going for a swim. [break][break] “Keep your legs a bit spaced, the string can sway freely but will remain in its place. The tips of your weapons should be threatening your foe from every angle. To obtain a certain level of threat, point the tips at your foeman’s eyes.” He continued his lecture, cold as ever, side stepping back to face the swashbuckler, taking out his Luger and pointing it at Akira’s face to prove his point. “Though this world has scripted much, basic instincts will tell you to move away. Abusing or exploiting these instincts are the first steps into combat. You do not desire to simply kill your foe, you must break its will to fight lest it survives and comes back with a vengeance.” [break][break] Then the warden relaxed a bit, though he had spoken much for his standards, it was quite a lot to take in, process and make it one’s own style. “‘T is a quiet place and it is generally safer to travel by water than by land. The people in the city should be awakening or already awake and labouring. In an hour, perhaps two, the first ships set sail, being loaded with goods or passengers.” [break][break] After a short rest the warden walked towards the back of the swashbuckler and gave her another shove. “Unless there is no other way or it is part of your skill, do not twist and turn, exposing your back to your foe. It matters not how they do it in the movies. Looking all fancy and prancing means little if it gets you killed for being a dumbass.” [break][break] “A fight or duel is a dance, a game of chess, a battle of attrition, all are graceful in their own right. All are blended together. The dancing part entails your paces, steps and timing. The chess part is thinking ahead at least ten moves and counter moves. The last part entails how much you can take, as someone once said: it matters not how hard you can hit, it matters how hard you can get hit.” The warden continued, cold and stern. [break][break] “Ask your questions now or tell me if you desire to stop, for if we continue we shall get to the more practical part of your lessons. You wanted to be a badass, I have told you the basic theorems. Are you ready for the practical applications and detailed workings of not dying and, in your words, kicking ass?” the warden asked, a somewhat gentle grin on his face. [break][break] |
