Character Info
REAL NAME: Keith Smithfield
REAL GENDER: Male
GAME GENDER: Female
AGE: 17
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual technically, but given his/her/their(? even they aren't particularly certain right now) new body Homosexual might be more applicable.
FACE-CLAIM: Avatar/Female!Robin, Fire Emblem:Awakening
PLAYED BY: Pokemon Master Red
RACE: Ritual
FACTION: Adventurer
Appearance Keith modeled his character off of the female version of the protagonist of a certain(by now quite old, but still good) game he enjoyed playing, figuring the look would work perfectly for the newly-announced Heretic class of Elder Tale's new server. He changed a couple things, of course; unlike the image used up there, he chose a light purple hair to match the eyes, and of course he didn't start out with the outfit, but the basics are there. Slight build, decidedly shorter than he was in real life(he was fairly tall, and that's been something she's had to adjust to since that first Log-In), and as a Race of Ritual he gave herself twin Marks of Grima, one on each hand(instead of the single one on the character's left hand from the game), and then another large one covering her back. She doesn't really bother with doing up his hair, not particularly used to working with long hair, and if it gets mussed up too much he just resets her appearance to her default hair style(which...I'm actually not absolutely certain is a thing they can do, but I'll assume it is for simplicity's sake). That said, he does occasionally experiment with it in private, more because he'd rather get it finalized before showing it off than any actual embarrassment of the activity. While she of course is currently dressed in her starter Heretic getup, ideally he'd like to get their custom Tactician's Outfit(tm) made up. Y'know the one(well, if you've ever played FE:Awakening, you do, anyways)-purple all over, gold eye patterns in the fabric like the Mark of Grima, big baggy coat, that sorta deal. Even with the starter robes, though, he keeps the hood up as a matter of preference. | Personality Medresi has a somewhat masculine personality and bearing, fittingly considering that she was a he in the real world. She's somewhat insecure about the change to now being female(it's easier to play a character different from your actual gender when there's a disconnect, after all), and sometimes tends to be reserved because she doesn't know how he should act, but he's been starting to come out of her shell as of late and beginning to come to terms with it. She's still not absolutely certain what he considers himself, but he's steadily becoming comfortable with herself and his new body, whatever that means for her. Unlike probably most people, she isn't terribly concerned with escaping the situation she's found herself in, instead seeing it as a new adventure, and something that actually means something, unlike the dull drudgery of her old life. Sure, their world might be limited to the scope of the British Isles for now, but who knows? It could well soon expand further, or they could find a way past the barrier keeping them in there. It's exciting! And they're in a position to actually change things! Even if it's a bit more scary, for...well, frankly obvious reasons. After all, even if you can come back to life, death is still death. |
Extra
Don't think I'll say much here, just want to note that the switching of pronouns(even mid-sentence) is intentional; Keith/Medresi isn't sure what they consider themselves right now, whether male or female. On one hand he's a bit weirded out by the new body, but on the other hand it doesn't bother her enough to seek out a high-level item to change her appearance, or even to cough up the dough to buy one, and that fact has caused more than a little introspection on his part into if she really considers himself male or female(he was extremely surprised by the fact that it didn't bother her as much as he thought it would). For what it matters about other people referencing Medresi in a topic, female probably works best since that's what she looks like, but if they're aware he was a guy IRL and of his identity-confusion, either pronoun or even 'them' works(spoken or otherwise).
Biography
Keith was not a somebody before the Catastrophe. He was a nobody, working a part-time job for minimum wage, getting extraordinarily average grades in school, not even unpopular enough to be noteworthy. He wasn't good at socializing, he hated sports, he only worked his job for a meager amount of income, and he didn't have a ton of friends. It probably goes without saying that he indulged in more than a small amount of escapism, gaming paramount among them.
So it should similarly come as no surprise that he was very into Elder Tale, one of the most popular MMOs of the time. And unlike in reality, he was fairly skilled at it. He found it easier to make friends with a screen separating him from them and a common goal in quests to entice him to work with others. And the lore behind the game always managed to grip him and keep him in, even if in some part of his mind he understood that the game itself still relied on the general MMO 'Do quest, get XP, level up, repeat' formula. Certainly, he was far from the best, but he had a fair knack for the game. He managed to just level his new Swashbuckler character on the NA Server to 67 when he got the notification.
"Unfounded Kingdom Server now online."
Just the day he'd been waiting for.

She opened his eyes, and blinked a few times, uncomprehending. He brushed the confusion aside and took stock of the situation. Just a moment ago, he'd been in his chair, about to log in...Then...He was here. He didn't recognize his immediate surroundings, but the style was unmistakable. Crumbling structures overgrown with vegetation...Once he got his bearings enough to put two and two together, it looked a lot like some of the town areas from Elder Tale, as impossible as that sounded. Much better, ah, 'graphics', so to speak...but still very much like the game. And it looked like he wasn't the only person there.
It took him about three days before she realized that he had the body of the character he made. It's not that she was unobservant...but you take certain assumptions about your body. He was dealing with the shock of everything else being different that he scarcely paid attention to himself, and nobody she talked to had really went out and said 'Hey, by the way, have you realized that you're a chick today?' To everyone else, he must've just come across as a girl in the real world, or they were too busy trying to figure out just what was going on for it to really matter to them. He just took the change in a daze, mentally registering that he should be shocked, that...she?...should be freaking out, and didn't really know why he wasn't. Of course, it could've been any number of things, really...Just a conga line of shocking developments, his will to keep caring just snapping at that point, but he wasn't introspective enough at the time to think of that.
She's gotten a bit of practice at introspection since then. Still hasn't been enough for him to decide what his lack of a real, emotional response to that realization means.
Of course, that hasn't been ALL he's been up to since entering the game. He's done a few odd jobs to earn money...mostly things inside of cities, paid by other Adventurers, and never really all that much, just enough to pay the bills and have a roof over her head. But when she wasn't working to not starve or sleep in the rain, and not ruminating over his gender, he spent her time studying and experimenting. Learning what she could about this world, and her new power, and how it worked together. Occasionally asking around, and careful to keep his nature as a Heretic under as much wraps as possible once she found that they were persecuted sometimes(when pressed, she says she just bought the Heretic starter robes after saving up some money because he liked it better than his own class'), but ultimately theoretical things. Small experiments with Miasma(on himself if it needs a test subject, and always careful to keep her levels low; she isn't actively malevolent), reading others' notes on Anima and Psyche the few times she managed to get a peek, that sort of thing.
But it's become increasingly apparent that she's reaching the limit of what he can learn. Honestly he reached that a while ago, but she's been stalling, trying to convince himself there's more she can learn without needing to start fighting, or growing stronger...It isn't that he has any special moral compunction against it, but he still doesn't want to die, or risk death. But she isn't going to just give up and stay doing small errands to survive. There's more to learn about this world, and its people to help. And she knows that here, he can make a difference, can do something real with his life. Everyone can. Here, he doesn't have to be Keith Smithfield, part-time worker and slacker student.
Here, she can be Medresi, Heretic Sage.

CLASS SKILLS
Main Class: HERETIC
Black Operon
Tier I Skill
Toggle skill. Heretics are the primary manipulators of Miasma and it is no surprise that they are able to extract excess Corruption from their body whenever it is needed. When this skill is toggled, the Heretic selects a Corruption Stage. If the Heretic should then enter that Corruption Stage, they will gradually lose an amount of Corruption points equal to the Stage selected, at the beginning of each post cycle. For example, selecting Corruption Stage 1 will cause the Heretic's Corruption points to decrease by 1 each post. Selecting Corruption Stage 5 will result in their Corruption points being decreased by 5 each post. As soon as the Heretic's Corruption Stage drops below the designated stage, their Corruption points will stop decreasing. This skill may be untoggled in order to select a new Corruption Stage.Skill Name: Description. Main Class skill 1 of 3. Eye for an Eye
Tier I Skill
A spell that places a curse somewhere on the target's body and it appears as an eye-looking insignia. The user can see from that insignia as long as the target is within 100 meters. More obvious areas means it's easier to see, but also easy for the target to notice it. If the insignia is covered completely in any way, nothing can be seen. The user must close one of their eyes to see anything from the insignia. This skill has a casting time of 5 seconds, a maximum duration of 30 minutes, and a cooldown of 1 hour.

Miasma Bullet
Tier I Skill
The Heretic generates Miasma into a black orb projectile. The orb is then fired toward an enemy within 10 meters at a high velocity. Exposure to this concentrated mass deals dark attribute damage to the target and applies 1 point of Corruption to the target. The Heretic may alternately charge this skill to deal 25% extra damage and 1 additional point of Corruption for every second of charging. This skill has a cooldown of 5 seconds, a regular casting time of 2 seconds, and a maximum casting time of 5 seconds.

Miasma Curtain
Tier I Skill
The Heretic concentrates Miasma in a dispersed form and swings its essence around them, causing a violet mist to materialize and rapidly whip out from the Heretic's body. The Miasma strikes all opponents within 2 meters with dark attribute damage and applies 1 point of Corruption to all affected targets. Miasma Curtain does not damage allies, but will still apply Corruption if they are within range. This skill has a minimum casting time of 2 seconds, a maximum casting time of 5 seconds, and a cooldown of 10 seconds. Miasma Curtain's casting time can be increased in order to deal 10% extra damage and 1 additional point of Corruption per second.

Roleplay Class: SAGE
Sage
Level 1 Skill
Sense Element: Sages are sensitive to the different forms of mana once it has polarized into the eight main elements. Sense Element allows the Sage to home in onto a specific element and obtain a vague impression of that element's location. This can be useful for searching for water sources when traveling through a dry desert or for being able to navigate oneself through a dark cave by following the trail of light or wind mana. Of course, based on the context of the environment, this skill may not be particularly helpful at times. Using it while sailing on the high seas to search for water mana, for example, will probably overload the Sage's senses. Sense Element has a casting time of 10 seconds, a range of 25 meters, and a cooldown of 60 seconds.

Crafting Class:ALCHEMIST
Level 1 Skill
Transmutation: Alchemists are naturally aligned with the power of magical equipment, able to use the Adventurer skill [Equipment Mastery: Magical] as a Beginner-level skill without having it take up a skill slot. Their research also gives them an advantage in fighting Artificial Life to deal an additional 10% damage. If [Equipment Mastery: Magical] is already learned through racial or class bonuses, Magitech damage increases by 10%.
