A regular human had five senses: Sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. Take some away, even for a moment, and the human will be left vulnerable to the environment. This applied to most mobs out there as well. Where some cannot see, they use echolocation. Some, like flies, could see in many directions. Of course, there were some exceptions to the rule, as all things always are. Still, following the ways of the old world, there was one thing that had yet to see rebirth here. The stun grenade. Also known as a flashbang, it takes away two of the most important senses in combat: Sight and sound. Without sight, one cannot see their opponent's moves. Without sound, one cannot hear the commands shouted out, or the retreating footsteps of a nearly defeated enemy. More often than not, the effects are only temporary, and the grenade itself could hardly kill an Adventurer, but he knew not what the world had in store for his design. The strangest things could erupt from the most basic of works. In the old world, the light from a stun grenade blinds by activating all the photoreceptor cells in the eye at the same time, keeping them preoccupied with converting that bright flash of light into signals the brain could understand. At the same time, the bang from the resulting reaction was loud enough to disrupt the fluid in the ear, causing temporary loss of hearing and loss of balance. It did a good job of incapacitating, and when faced with life and death scenarios, it was an item that could exceed even the [Smoke Grenade] in terms of usefulness. But first, he needed to lay the groundwork for the creation of such an item. While a metal casing with large circular cutouts were used in the old world, they lacked the necessary technology to make such a precise device, which, even if they could make one, would drive the price up since the cost of creating the casing would be too high. Instead, he would make do with double chambered ampoules. Naturally, it increased the danger of the item since there was no metal casing to contain the heat of the reaction, but if he was lobbing it at his enemy, does it matter? Actually, it would be to his benefit if they suffered some damage on top on getting stunned.

In the old world, the materials used were magnesium metal and ammonium nitrate or ammonium perchlorate. Magnesium metal was highly reactive with air, and made the bright light, while the ammonium salt made the loud bang when reacting with the metal oxide formed. However, it was clear that these items had yet to be found in the mines of the Unfounded Kingdom, unless it had already been found and they forgot to detail it. In theory, though, the logic behind it was simple: Find a highly reactive salt and a highly reactive metal and test them together. Research at a library had changed his initial assumption as well. Unlike his other potions, he was most likely going to be working with two ingredients in their solid state, which erased his earlier thoughts about using a double chambered ampoule. He would likely need a single chambered ampoule with a fuse of sorts containing a pyrotechnic mixture which he would need to test for efficiency. How would he get the fuse, though? The best fuse he could ever get was air. A metal reactive enough to explode on contact with air would do the job, but it would also be unable to survive the preparation phase. Unless... The Funeral Parlor had made a hand grenade some time ago. A replica almost identical to the real world's grenade, it worked as advertised, but was expensive as each was hand crafted. Most of the cost should have come from the creation of the explosive powder used in the grenade though. If he removed that from the equation, the cost of the item should have a noticeable drop. Perhaps he should order a disassembled grenade without the black powder from Funeral Parlor. However, the further he got into researching the materials needed, the more he felt that this was way of his depth. Most of the referenced materials pointed to something which seemed to be what an Alchemist would be making, rather than a Pharmacist. Was he stretching his class definition too much? Perhaps. One day, he may consider a class change. Each and every class had its limitations, boundaries which they cannot cross, and here he reached one of those boundaries. He supposed that was the reason why hybrid recipes existed: It was impossible for a single class to encompass everything, even within their own domain. Sometimes, they needed the help of another class. Take the flashbang for example. An Alchemist is needed to prepare the pyrotechnic mixture, while a Blacksmith is needed to make the casing, fuse and everything else. Given the limitations of each specialty, they were forced to work together to ensure that they could reach the end product. Icyferno scratched the stun grenade off the list of items he wanted made in his mental list. It was not something he could do while confined by the Pharmacist's parameters. When the time came, though, perhaps he may have the opportunity to finish what he started here today.
