ARTHUR
Character Info
REAL NAME: Arthur ManningREAL GENDER: Male
GAME GENDER: Male
AGE: 66
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
FACE-CLAIM: Mihal Mihaeroff, DOGS
PLAYED BY: Ar-eM
RACE: Human
FACTION: Adventurer
Appearance Arthur is six feet and something tall, and stockily built. Muscular arms and legs contrast a slightly chubby torso. His weathered face is framed by thick, shoulder length light gray hair, hanging loosely around his shoulders when at rest and held together in a ponytail with a brown strip of leather when in armour. His beard is equally gray and neatly kept short. Arthur looks out into the world through brown, brooding eyes behind a pair of long rectangular, rimless spectacles. When out of his armour, Arthur wears a simple blue tunic with grey trousers and heavy, brown boots. It resembles his real life stance on clothing, where he values functionality over appearance. Despite his face always appearing to frown and scowl, he has a friendly demeanour, although he will never be the life of the party and tends to be slightly blunt. His years have made him patient, to the point of seeming to be made of stone in the eyes of those younger than him. His movements are deliberate, perhaps even slow at times, although at times of stress or focus it turns around completely. Going into battle mode is like throwing a switch in Arthur's mind, as his sometimes aloof demeanour falls away and he goes all in, dedicating himself entirely to the ferocity that explodes outward. | Personality Arthur is a patient man, friendly and caring, although not one to advertise it. He easily and readily accepts companionship, although takes his time until calling someone a friend. This deliberation may often seem, or even become aloofness. Arthur tries to keep a level head in everything, trying to find the most logical solution in everything, and keep his emotions in check. Arthur is slow to truly trust someone, but is willing to give strangers quite a bit of leeway while he ascertains their intentions and abilities. His life experience has taught him that honour and honesty aren't inflexible values and will and should change depending on the situation, which results in him understanding that people will lie and cheat to get ahead or stay safe. He doesn't hold that against people per se, but will not hesitate to return the favour when needed. Arthur likes people, though he doesn't continually feel the need to be around them. He prefers small groups of people, not because he is uncomfortable in large ones, but because the quality of the relationships in small groups tend to be better. |
Extra
Arthur doesn't make it a secret that he is somewhat older than the average gamer, which is why his character looks as old as he actually is.
Biography
Arthur's parents separated shortly after he was born, and his mother dragged him across the country in search of employment for much of his young life. They finally landed on the outskirts of London where Arthur finished school and started to work with his mother's new partner as a carpenter. Arthur spent fifteen years working with his stepfather before taking over the company after his retirement. Although he never became rich, Arthur managed to build the company out to have a few employees and became specialised in building wooden houses. He was happy with a blooming business, loving wife and a few close friends.
Everything changed a week before his fifty third birthday, when his wife received the news that she had breast cancer. It had already spread to her organs and doctors gave her only a couple of months to live. Arthur stopped working and spent the remainder of his wife's life by her side, taking care of her and showing her as much happiness as he could. Fate intervened quicker than expected. Arthur saw his wife cremated in only six weeks. Although he picked up his work building houses again, his social life came to a standstill. Arthur became a recluse more and more, spending his spare time reading and watching the films his late wife enjoyed. He grieved for months, until the pain dulled and his solitude became habitual. His social interaction was limited to the people he worked with, all other friends became estranged from him. In search for new companions, Arthur took to the web, to find people who might understand him better. He tried dating sites, forums about loss and grief and social media sites. Arthur found that they served for little more than posturing, pretending to be what one was not. In time, playing simple flash games to alleviate boredom grew out to embracing gaming as a new pastime. MMO's opened a new world to him, a combination of getting to do something combined with people who more often than not had dealt with some kind of loss, loneliness or pain. Arthur felt a kinship with certain members of the gamer community. Guilds became his new family, guild members his new friends. Achieving victory and helping new and veteran players alike filled the void that the passing of his wife had left.
When Arthur was able to retire at sixty, he became fully immersed in the world of MMORPG's. Arthur joined Elder Tale in 2012, migrating to the UK server as soon as it launched. When the World Fraction happened, Arthur felt somehow relieved. The world he had given so much time to had become the actual world, and the real world little more than a memory.

Inventory
Starter Great Hammer: A starter weapon designed for novice adventurers, made out of cheap iron and wood. It is well-balanced and easy to use but doesn’t hit particularly hard at all. You probably should get this replaced as soon as you can.
EQUIPMENT
Left Arm Whorlstrike: Level 1 Great Hammer, "Forged by Arthur, this weapon, though obviously made with much care is still obviously made by a craftsman of little skill. The large head has a subtle spiral pattern to it, mirrored in the twists on the long metal handle." | Armor | Right Arm N/A |

CLASS SKILLS
Main Class: Guardian
Counter Break: Every force has an equal and opposite reaction. When attacked, the two options are usually to move out of the way or brace and block the attack somehow. However, some choose a third unusual option which is to face the attack head on with a display of power of your own. By literally attacking an attack with an attack, you not only mess up the collision point but you negate most of your opponent’s power using your own kinetic energy. Also, if you surpass your opponent in power sufficiently, it is possible to break apart the opponent’s attack so significantly that you can chain it into an attack of your own. This skill can only be used as a counterattack against skills with an animation time of 2 seconds or more. Counter Break has a cooldown of 30 seconds.
Garrison Force: Upon activation of this skill, the Guardian's current HP is reduced by 10% of their maximum HP. Cannot be used if the Guardian's HP is less than 10%. The Guardian then gains an additional HP bar, labeled as 'Armor' with a value of roughly 10% of their maximum HP. When the Guardian's Armor bar is above 0, any damage taken will first be applied to Armor before affecting HP. If a character has not taken any damage for 10 seconds, Armor will gradually increase until it is fully restored after 10 seconds. If Barrier Armor is used on the Guardian while this skill is active, the two effects add onto each other and thus the Guardian's Armor bar will be 15% of their maximum HP. Garrison Force's duration is indefinite, but if the Guardian's Armor bar should ever drop to 0, it is canceled. Garrison Force has a casting time of 2 seconds and a cooldown of 10 seconds. At Level 45, Garrison Force may be cast on a party member but it will still cost the Guardian's HP to cast.
Hammer Beat: A skill that raises the shield or two-handed weapon over the Guardian's body, then crashes it down upon the enemy with a loud sound effect. If a monster struck by this attack is lower-leveled than the Guardian, it is almost guaranteed to shift aggro upon the Guardian. However, the Guardian may need to follow up this skill with other aggro-generating skills in order to reliably hold the monster's aggro in an extended fight. This skill has an animation time of 2.5 seconds and a cooldown of 5 seconds.

They are able to wear plate armor without penalties if they are normally able to wear chain armor but not plate armor. Also a toggle skill. Through their skills at working around a forge, blacksmiths have developed a slight tolerance toward heat. They take reduced damage of 10% from fire-based attacks.
