Something was definitely wrong… or maybe it was just that Arashi was hallucinating. That was a completely reasonable explanation, wasn’t it? Though reason seemed to be just flying out the window. The metaphorical window, of course. Why would you want to go flying through a window in the first place? The shards of glass would hurt.
There most definitely weren’t any windows to jump through, not from where she was standing. She was in the middle of some sort of square. There were a bunch of people standing around, herself included.
Wait.
Why was she standing in the middle of a square?
The last thing she remembered was that she was sitting in front of her computer, loading up Elder Tales like the dozens of time she had done before. Of course, this time she had made a new character in honor of the new expansion… and she even chose the new server since it wasn’t region-locked.
Around her, it seemed people were suddenly aware of what was going on as well, calling out asking what the hell was going on, talking about their outfits… her outfit. Arashi looked down and found herself thankfully wearing clothes… she had only been wearing an extra-large t-shirt when she loaded up the game… but wait… the clothes she were wearing were familiar… they were the clothes the avatar was wearing when she made it.
Arashi looked around and headed directly to the closest shiny service which turned out to be a store window, go figure. In the reflection, she saw that she WAS her avatar. As she looked at herself, she must have accidentally opened something… oh wait, it was her status screen.
“Wait, am I in the game?” Arashi was confused. She looked around at everyone else, and suddenly nametags were floating by everyone’s head. “What’s going on?”
Arashi, or rather Marashi as was her avatar’s name, walked around the city which she found out to be Londinium, the initial starting city for the region. If she had made the new character in her home region, she would have started out in Brotherhood… or at least probably. Sometimes, she would start out in the Big Apple. She lived between the two cities so it really was of no surprise. Of course, those weren’t the only cities she knew. Thanks to the way travel had worked in the game, she had been able to check out all of the North American Adventurer cities, including Portage and Labrador. She had also explored some of the other areas thanks to the Fairy Ring system. She had been to Amazonia, Agra, Qahira, even Shibuya. Londinium, however, she had never been to. Though even if she had been here before, it probably wouldn’t have helped her situation. After all, the Unfounded Kingdom was its own server now; who knew how many changes had been done between Novasphere and Renaissance… espeicially because the Londinium was originally Londonheim.
The hard part though was that Marashi had no help now. Originally she had friends who would give her buffs and she had her main when she made her alts. All her friends were at school, at least she thought they were. Besides that, she was on a class she was not familiar with at all: Shaman also known as the Medium class.
And that reminded her of something: shikigami. Shikigami were spirits that were just in game AI’s that weren’t really that important… but now… what would happen now?
Marashi found a secluded area and made sure no one else was around, and she opened up her interface. She went to her spell book and found the <Summon Shikigami> ability. She clicked on the ability, and in front of her, appeared a fox tail girl, minus the fox tail. She had white ears, short white hair, and a white outfit that had red trim on it. She also wore red fingerless gloves and had red eyes and a red triangle on her forehead.
“I was starting to wonder if you’d ever wake us up!” the girl exclaimed, her voice pitch being decently high, “I’m Hikari; it’s nice to meet you!”
Marashi’s expression was somewhere between stunned and surprised.
“It’s nice to meet you as well,” a voice inside of her head spoke. The voice in her head was female, but it was lower… lower than even Marashi’s voice. Wait, who was that speaking? She was bipolar, not a schitzo…
“That’s Yume talking,” Hikari said right on cue, “she’s a Shikigami like I am, except not as fun and a wolfhair instead of a fox tail.”
Marashi blinked, “Can you read my thoughts?” The question caused Hikari to giggle.
“We can,” Yume, the voice, responded, “We are a part of you just as you are a part of us. We can see what you see, and we feel what you feel.”
“I see,” Marashi nodded. Two shikigami for two personalities… it made sense.
“Well, it’s time to poof now,” Hikari spoke up, fading away. Once her form disappeared, Marashi noticed she could feel her two shikigami in her mind… and their presence soothed her. At least now she wasn’t alone.
