It had been a while since Elkeid had last stepped out into the field. During the past few weeks, she had done naught but stayed within London, raising her Brewer class to match her main one. After hearing about a new dungeon that supposedly held rare drops, however, the woman was determined to prepare herself so that she could be a viable option later. The area she stood in was inhabited by many creatures, especially ones called Green Slimes. They were a few levels below her own, making them perfect practice dummies.
A simple “quest” to kill six slimes was given to her by one of the People of the Land just a few minutes ago, which she found to be awfully convenient. The poor man was desperate, because the slimes were attacking him and his children whenever they needed to cross the land. Elkeid did not question him further, and eagerly accepted the quest. The man had promised to pay her for her troubles, so how could she pass that up? She would be getting paid for some minor grinding.
Elkeid cracked both sets of knuckles before stepping further into the field, scanning the area for her first prey. It did not take the woman long to find what she sought. There was an area that seemed to form a small quarry, but when she drew closer she saw that the rocks were mostly slimes and a few chunks of rock. The woman said nothing as she made her way over to the rocks and slimes. She climbed atop a short, rocky ledge that looked suspiciously like an old brick fence. The slimes in the area would not have an easy time of reaching her, though that did not matter if they suddenly decided to swarm up in groups. Most of the blobs around her appeared to be roundish in shape, while the occasional misshapen ones could be seen hopping around. Near her ledge, a pair of Green Slimes were bouncing as happily as two kids hopped up on sugar. A moist smacking sound filled the air as they moved and carried on.
One of the slimes took notice of her, and began slapping its body against her ledge. A moment later, and the second took note of her as well. Smack smack smack went their moist little bodies. Elkeid stared down at them in disgust. 'Ugh...No time like the present, I suppose…' She had a feeling this was going to be a very disgusting quest. ’This is going to be like punching sentient fruit.’ At the very least, she had some idea of what to expect when she fought these creatures.

The grimace of disgust on Elkeid's face grew more and more. The slimes were still slamming their moist bodies into the rock, pulling themselves back with a sick smucking sound, before repeating the process all over again. She carefully lowered one foot, then the other onto the ground. The slimes immediately came towards her, in their odd, hopping way.
One tried slamming its viscous body into her boots. She kicked at it, on pure instinct. It was a mistake, as this creature was not flesh and blood like a pig or wolf. It was like kicking firm jello. "Eugh…" Now it was latched onto the toe of her boot, where the queerest feeling of sucking was tingling its way up to her thigh. "Euuugh…" This just felt so…gross. She was glad to be covered so that the creature couldn't make direct contact with her skin. The very thought was just…'Euuuuuugh.'
She raised and cocked back one fist, holding her arm up in a warding off gesture. The slime just ignored this. It was far too busy attacking her foot. A little damage was being taken, but it was too pitiful to make much note of. The other slime had joined it, busying itself with her other foot.
Elkeid's mouth set in a thin line as she bent over to punch at one of the balls of goo. A shiver ran up and down her spine as her fist made contact with one of the things. Her hand sliced into the body of the slime like a butter knife through canned cranberry sauce. 'Euugh…' This did not feel right at all, damn it. It was too unnatural.
It seemed to cause the slime some pain, at least. She could tell this by looking at the little health bar over its head. Its health had gone down by twenty percent from just one swipe. 'These things are pretty weak, huh?' She swung her fist down on it again, harder and faster this time. The force of her strike almost came to an immediate halt as it got caught in the thick substance that was the slime's body. Thirty percent this time.
Her lips were now pulled back in a silent snarl. 'Die monster, die!' She slashed at the slime again and again. It reminded her of an old horror movie, or children's book, she couldn't remember - something about a large, pink blob that absorbs every living thing in its path. Well, it was much too small to do any of that.
She swung her fist in the opposite direction this time, striking the second slime. This one actually bounced back - for a second, anyway. It came back harder than before, this time attacking her shins. "Tch!" Her shoddy armor protected her from the puny assault of the slime. It wasn't going to be deterred, however. The slime bounced again, this time aiming a little higher for her thigh. The first slime was still attacking her leg. The second she knocked away with the back of her hand, and the first she finished off with one final jab. "It's just you and me now, Mr. Slime." The green slime showed no signs of comprehending what she'd said to it. It made to attack again, but she intercepted by sweeping its body away from her with the flat side of her swinging leg. It almost stuck to it, but fell free with a low plop. "I...don't want to be doing this again anytime soon." The only reason she was bothering to begin with was to acclimate herself to fighting in this world. 'Yeah, let's get this over with quickly…'
The green slime was bouncing back, aiming its gelatinous little body at her legs. She resisted the very strong urge to punt it, instead bowing forward and dropping a heavy chop onto the top of it. The slime's top half flattened somewhat on impact, and then stretched up when she brought her hand up. Pop! Her hand came free altogether, with a little added momentum that threw her arm back.
She danced to the side to avoid the slime's next attempt, adding in a little twirl for flair so that she could counter yet another attack. The slime was getting excited, more so than it had when she initially met it. It was hopping to and fro now, making rapid smack smack smack sounds as it did so. One of these smacks was longer than the others.
The slime had flattened itself to the ground so that it resembled a large, lumpy pancake. It reminded Elkeid of those small popper toys she'd played with as a child - push onto a flat surface until it stuck, then release and let it fly. You were supposed to do this on surfaces like tables, but one of her favorite spots was the flesh of her friends or her godfather’s nieces and nephews. The forehead was a good spot, but very hard to conceal, unless you brushed the hair the right way…
'I shouldn't think about that now!' She really shouldn't. A loud pop filled the air as the slime shot into the air. It had angled itself so that it would come down in an arc, and was moving just as fast as a popper popping off little Henrik’s forehead. Elkeid didn't think, but allowed her body to move of its own accord. With the vague recollection of some gymnastics training as a child, she performed what should have been a fluid backflip, but sudden panic caused her fall on her side.
The slime, thankfully, landed a few feet away from her. "Ha-haa~!" The celebration was very short lived, for something soft and squishy was wriggling under her side. 'What the…' Something wet and cold brush against her neck, and she gave a high pitched shriek. "Euuugh…" Elkeid groaned and shivered uncontrollably as the slime rubbed against the back of her neck. 'I'm going to be sick…' She rolled over and onto the palms of her hands. Behind her she could see it - a flattened, green slime. It pulled itself back to its roundish form, noticeably dented in the side, but still at full health. 'Fall damage is weird…' It looked like a rather lazy slime, taking its time as it hopped towards her. The other slime, in contrast, was hopping forward at a fast speed.
The slime startled her into doing something she did not intend to do; activate a skill. She slammed one fist forward, then another, until she was rapidly punching at the slime’s gelatinous body. Once she started, she found herself unable to break the movement until two seconds had passed. Based on the action, she could only guess that this was her newly acquired Bullet Punch skill, one she had not been given an opportunity to test until now. Despite the skill locking her arms up for that short span of time, it proved to be exceptionally helpful, as it did a nice chunk of damage to the slime.
THWACK went the slime as its body collided with the ground. Its health was now in the deep red - or was it short? - signaling the slime's last few seconds of life. Elkeid gave the creature a savage kick while it was incapacitated, sending the resulting pixels sharply to the left when its body fell apart on impact. Items and gold littered the ground in its stead. "Phew." The woman heaved a deep sigh as she rolled her neck and shoulders. She was fully warmed up now.
The surviving slime was still casually hopping about, even after witnessing the death of its cousin. "You're next." A finger was pointed at the slime, which was either oblivious or ignoring the threat. Oh well - what could one expect from slimes, anyway? They couldn't be much smarter than pigs, that was for sure.
This one looked like it was going to take its time, but she had matters of her own to handle. She cut the distance between them with a single bound, bringing one fist above her head. The ground shook when she slammed both fists into the ground, courtesy of her Tiger Echo Fist skill. The slime’s body was sent flying back, even as it took some nasty damage from the skill.
It plopped onto the ground a few feet away, but was not given time to recover. The woman charged in after it, and drew back an elbow that she slammed into its body when she was near enough. Sandwiched between her elbow and the ground, the slime's health bar slowly dropped into the red zone. Elkeid yanked her arm free, nearly falling back with the strength she used to do so. The slime was able to right itself for a moment, but did not have the pleasure of even one last bounce. Her fist cut into it again, this time for good. Having killed three slimes thus far, Elkeid was starting to experience a bit of a rush. The adrenaline in her body was at max as she traversed the canyon, looking for her last three victims. She needed to kill three more Green Slimes. As long as she used her skills and wits, all would be fine – right? Elkeid cracked her knuckles like before she started the quest. There was something she wanted to test, since there did not seem to be any likelihood of her using them on stronger enemies.
The knife she pulled out now was one of the mass generated weapons from the People of the Land. It was only a level five weapon, but should work fine against the low leveled slimes in this area. The woman considered climbing onto higher ground to place her advantage even higher on the slimes, but this was technically her first time using throwing knives. 'Let's take it slow, like a virgin on her wedding night.' That was the suggestion people always threw out, anyway. Her experience was far from that.
Elkeid waited until a pair of slimes hopped and slid in her direction. She raised the knife close to her ear, and sent her arm forward, releasing the knife before her hand dropped to the side. The knife landed short just of the slime's body. The woman did not let her bad aim deter her, though. She fetched another knife and threw it with better precision at the slime. This time her aim was true, and the knife cleaved through the slime with an almost relative ease. "Heh." It did some decent damage, but not as much as she would have liked.
While the slimes were distracted by the random plunging of the knife, Elkeid streaked forward, arms thrown out behind her. She was going to employ a tactic similar to her earlier one, even at the risk of hurting herself. What was the point in living if she didn't break a few nails?'Not that I'll be able to do so with slimes.'
That was the last thought to run through her head before she activated her Tiger Echo Fist skill and slammed her fists into the ground before the slimes. They went flying back due to the impact, sustaining some nasty damage in the process. She didn't let up once they were down, and began swinging her legs out at the monsters. Her kicks made them lean back far enough until they were touching the ground, and as they were coming back up, Elk's foot swept through their bodies.
Fighting slimes was by far the grossest thing she had ever done, and would likely regret this later, but she was in too deep. As they say "Go big or go home." She didn't have that Call of Home skill yet, so she was going to go big. The slime nearest to her winced as she slammed her fist into the center of its body with all the force she could muster. She jerked her hand back, through what felt like congealed jelly, and slammed her other fist into where a head should have been.
The slime was downgraded to gold and some goop she ignored while looting. The remaining slime lunged towards her, directly into its doom. With a punch, a knee to its under body, and an elbow jab, the monster joined its buddy in the afterlife. It wasn't much of a fair fight in hindsight, but it was just what she needed to get back into the groove. 'Question is, do I look for the last slime, or do I look for deadlier game?' She could always knock one around on her way back to London, but now she wanted to take her Exorcist skill for a short ride. There was sure to be something she could effectively test it on. The only question was what. though she had a pretty good guess as to what she would need to look for.
