"Any treasure you obtain without ever having to work for it is no treasure at all."

He was tired already, even though it had only taken him around fifty minutes to complete all the shopping that he had wanted to do. That meant that he had another seventy minutes before they had to meet up with Alisdair at the northern gates. So really, he had about an hour to work with, considering the fact that he had to travel to the gate. It was lucky he had been able to rent out a workshop for the hour he would have to be able to craft his Crystal Ball.
Sighing slightly as he tried to calm his agitation the Artisan placed the large block of stone he had purchased for this purpose on the work bench and donned the appropriate protective gear for the project. Once that was done he checked over the tools, making sure to activate his Attention to Detail and Perfectionism Artisan skills to help him with his work.
Picking up a hammer and chisel Jacoben approached the block of stone that he was going to going to use for the Combat Crystal Ball. It was a large and rough block of stone, but he knew that with a bit of skill and magic he would be able to create a good quality crystal ball. But first he needed to carve it into a sphere. He would have to work very hard to get it done in time to meet up with the others and follow Alasdair north.

With both his class skills active it was far easier for Jacoben to envision the way he would begin his carving. He could already see the shape of the sphere within the raw stone, and his hands practically placed themselves in the right spot as he brought the chisel to stone and began to hammer away. With each tap of the hammer another shard of stone flaked away and left new bare stone where before there was weathered rock.
With every flake of stone removed the basic shape of the crystal ball beneath it. Once he'd roughed out the basic shape of the orb he would have to smooth it out with files and other abrasive materials to form an actual sphere, and then finish it off with a polish to complete the physical components of the Crystal Ball. After that he'd have to inlay it with the appropriate magic in order to have a functioning weapon and not simply a pretty paper weight.
It didn't take the Foxtail Artisan too long to begin smoothing off the stone with increasingly finer grit sanding materials, eventually resorting to a fine powdered form of abrasive that was rubbed across the stone with a finely woven cloth. It was a surprisingly labour intensive process but ultimately Jacoben was sure that it would be worth it. Not to mention regardless of how much time it took it was still nothing compared to the amount of time it would have taken to complete such a task back in their old world.

With the main physical component complete Jacoben gathered up additional supplies in order to prepare the metaphysical aspects of the crystal ball. Various magic substances were laid out on his work bench and deftly combined until they formed a sort of thick almost paint-like substance. Taking up a sturdy paintbrush Jacoben began to paint various symbols across the Crystal Ball and bench surrounding it, laying down a spiderweb of lines, symbols, and arcane scripts. He wasn't sure how he knew what to put down, all he knew was that he knew it.
With that set up the foxtail made sure to check over his work to seek out any mistakes that he might have made before he moved on to the next step.
This required him to make larger symbols and circles around the room to help him channel the magic in such a way that it worked the way he wanted it to. Without this it would be impossible for him to direct his magical energy into the Crystal Ball and thus complete the creation of his weapon. Once the symbols were properly placed Jacoben took his spot within the large diagram and raised his arms up to point towards the crystal ball.
Focusing on his inner power, the small Sorcerer began to channel his own energy into the prepared crystal, the magic flowing out of his body and through the various symbols laid out on the floor and bench, causing them to glow brightly in the dim light of the workshop. After a few moments of straining focus Jacoben could see the chains of runes and symbols began to move, sliding across the solid surface they were on to disappear into the Crystal Ball, causing it to begin to glow far more than he had expected.
And then it was done, in an instant where once there was simply polished crystal before him now hummed the magical weapon he had crafted.
Justas he had hoped.
With that done Jacoben cleaned up after himself and left to meet up with the other two and Alasdair while he still had the chance.
