Activity Checks
even the best make mistakes
In order to keep the Staff team updated on the character personnel we have active on the forum, Activity Checks are a very necessary thing for us. By keeping track of the available characters, active classes, and overall number of players we have on the forum, the Staff can generate events and adjust the plot to suit the forum better. We are able to adjust the difficulty of Raids, Expeditions, focus our efforts on specific quests for certain classes, and also adjust the Forum META for Bosses. If we don't keep up to date on this information, we won't know when to create Advertisement events and we also won't be able to tailor activity to the needs of the community. Thus, the activity check is tuned to pull in the most accurate information possible.
Most activity checks follow an Umbrella-like effect; anyone on the forum is allowed to post on it and keep their profile active. This form of Check pretty much ensures that everyone is kept in the census regardless of their actual activity. However, the downside to this is you have lurkers and "hobos" who actually just hang around the Forum with a character and call themselves apart of the site. This also skews the statistics, as you have a number which actually doesn't exist. A lot of forums use this activity check both because they want to include everyone, because they don't want to ruffle feathers, because it's easier, and because the teams may not have a set up like we do so it won't effect them as much.
However, Log Horizon will not be using this. Instead, we will be using a more direct Activity Check to judge who is actually active. What this means is that our Activity Checks will be cutting out any loitering persons, lurkers with dormant characters, and person who came and roleplayed for a day or so and then just hung around. Now, the Activity Check does not mean you have to leave the forum if you are ruled inactive. Going inactive instead simply means that your character gets archived and you are no longer allowed on the Discord server until you decide to make it active again.
By cutting out a lot of these dormant characters, we can have an accurate reading on the actual activity levels of the forum. It also should call for players to be proactive and remain active in the Forum's activities. Those who are unable to remain active due to life events and have to stop posting should post in the Absences Subboard. By doing so, the Staff will be able to switch you to a designated group so when the activity check rolls around, we can skip you.
Following the information above, here's the requirements to pass an Activity Check:
[li]The Thread must be posted in a visible location and in the Character Registration board. You are not allowed to say "I'm working on a character" and not provide a link.[/li]
[li]There must be an edit on the profile within two weeks of your posting in the Activity Check.[/li]
[li]Your time limit for a WIP is two months. At the end of the second month, you will be assumed to be inactive.[/li]
[li]Your time limit for pending is one month. The Staff will be actively working with you to get your profile accepted. If you are pending, then it tells us you are serious about joining. If you have complications, we will move your profile to the WIP section until you can get back to it.[/li]
If you have an Approved Character:
[li]If your character is approved during the same month as the activity check, or if you are in the Absent Forum Group, you are excluded from the rules below for that month. Simply post in the Activity Check Thread so we can tally your character.[/li]
[li]You must have posted at least once within Three Weeks of your activity check post.[/li]
[li]If you do not have a post up on the Forum and post in the Activity Check, you have until the end of the check to post in a Quest thread or your Check Post will be ignored.[/li]
[li]Each individual character that you own must post in the Activity Check separately. People have used universal posts before but that will not work anymore, as it is easy for the Staff to do a census. Thus, we will only count the actual account that posted the Check Post.[/li]
If you are returning from Hiatus:
[li]You must post the link to the thread of you stating that you were going on an Absence so we can confirm the activity. Though, you should already be apart of the Absence group at this point if you did post.[/li]
[li]Prior to posting in the Activity Check, you must follow the "Returning Member" guidelines and get yourself back into the flow. Check the thread for more information. By not following those guidelines, you run the risk of getting skipped.[/li]
[li]You are excluded from the "Approved Character" activity until the end of the month. Instead, spend your time getting settled back in![/li]
