Han was very embarrassed to admit it; but there was one particular recipe that she had yet to actually complete; and it even happened to be one of the simpler ones! Smacking a palm to her face, she then realized that she hadn’t even actually made a Medicinal Formula yet; however she had made its stronger counterpart, the Medicinal Tablet, for Bunji some time ago. “Well, how stupid of me, I don’t know how to make the basics,” she snorted to herself as she set up her work space in her ‘lair’; she was surprised to learn that this version of the Medicinal Formula did not require cooking; in fact it was just ‘toss everything together and bottle up the results for consumption’ kind of thing. Well, makes it loads easier for me… she thought as she then dropped out of her inventory the ever-ready glass bowl, its accompanying glass stirrer, and quite surprisingly, the chopping board along with accompanying knife. At the last second she then dropped out her copy of the entire known recipe list available to Pharmacists, and then kept it nearby as she began selecting the ingredients that she would be using for this deceptively simple brew that she was going to make. “Alright, two Herbs and one Solvent…” she muttered to herself; before noticing that there was some sort of similarity to another one of the recipes, which was the Potion of Nighteye that she’d already finished making; mostly because it was just due to the steps. For one thing, the ingredients were different; while this one called for the ingredients that she had selected earlier, the other potion called for just one Herb and two Solvents. Wondering if this one would leave a distinct taste in her mouth like the Nighteye one did, she then placed one of the anise-scented herbs into the mortar and then popped the bottle of Solvent open. However there was a slight difference, she poured just enough into the mortar to submerge the Herb, and then immediately dumped the rest into the clear glass bowl that was in front of her; as the remaining Solvent needed to be left exposed to the air in order to let the other nasty components evaporate in order to make the liquid safe for use. Now that the preliminary steps had been done, she then took out the glass stirrer from the ‘kit’ that she always lugged along with her, and then swilled the Solvent that shed poured into the bowl; before letting it stand exposed to the air. Maybe it does have the same principles as tap water… she thought as she then proceeded to grab the pestle and begin crushing the anise seed into the little puddle she’d added to the bowl; hoping that the rich flavor and aroma would combine together. The scent that came from this tincture that she was now combining smelled slightly different as compared to the spearmint-like odor of the earlier Nighteye solution; this one had a more obvious undertone to it; her nose was starting to itch slightly at the more powerful odor wafted from the bowl. Don’t sneeze, don’t freaking sneeze… she willed herself as she continued to pound the anise into the solvent mixture; watching as the liquid changed color from its normally colorless state to one similar to cinnamon; or was it even caramel-like brown? Her nose crinkled up at the spicy mix; but she pressed on. On and on the pestle pound the seed; and after a while she stopped; because the liquid within the bowl was more brownish than clear. Would it taste like honey, or something else? She thought as she placed the pestle to one side and then slowly plucked the mashed remains of the anise-like herb; before discarding it.

Now that Han had discarded the poor, mashed-up anise seed that she had ground so roughly its essence and juices were now diluted and mixed with the sufficient amount of water; she then turned her attention to the standing bowl of Solvent; and then picked up the other herb, which had a distinct, crisp odor that she could not remember what it was called. Agh, stupid name of the herb eludes me… she thought as she then headed over to the chopping board; and then picked up the knife. “Here goes,” she said to nobody in particular; and she then began chopping roughly at the other herb that was on the chopping board. Making sure that her own fingers weren’t going to get lopped off due to her insanity, she then continued to whack the knife against the other herb, whose odor was now intermingling with the anise and then, she recognized the odor wafting from the herb she was chopping up; it was cinnamon! “How could I have missed it?!” she said to herself, resisting the urge to slap a palm to her forehead out of stupidity. Once she had sufficiently chopped up the cinnamon bits, she then picked up the chopping board and ran the knife across the now-pulverized herb, letting it all fall into the standing bowl of Solvent. Once the ingredients had been dumped, she then picked up the glass stirrer and continued to swill the second half of the solution around; making sure that the two would meld together. She then saw that she would have to let the two solutions stand for a while longer; in order to allow the effects of the herbs that she’d mixed in order to fully permeate the Solvent, which she now guessed was just ordinary tap water bottled and repackaged into something called ‘Impure Solvent’. Well, it is Impure, in a way… but otherwise I think it’s a wise idea making these ingredients as vast and as diverse as they are… she thought as she then picked up her copy of the recipe and then consulted it once more, making sure that she’d been doing everything right so far. So, let everything stand for just five to ten minute, and then mix everything together… sounds simple enough for me. Wait a second, does that mean I’ll have to taste it myself? But… she mused to herself, her thought train suddenly coming to a halt; before she checked her Health bar; and saw that it was not completely full. Well, there’s my reason to test if it will restore my Health… she continued to herself, tapping the table as she waited for the minutes to pass; who knew that such a short time of approximately seven minutes would feel like forever?! She then decided to shuffle over to one of the ‘shelves’ in her ‘hideout’ and plucked a book at random from the nearest shelf, and began skimming it, trying to pick up some ideas that she could use for future research plans. She had already somewhat asked a certain individual to be her guinea pig if in case things went awry; and she was secretly thankful he’d agreed to the set-up! Now what to bribe him with though… she thought as she continued reading through the book, keeping an eye on the bowl with the infused cinnamon, and watched as it slowly turned a shade of murky brown that was almost like honey. Ah, it’s ready, she thought to herself, bookmarking the page she was reading at and then shuffling back to the work space so that she could proceed with the final steps of the process; she needed to mix the solutions together and then eventually re-bottle it for future use.

Now that the two liquids were similar in color (though different of scent, and quite possibly taste) Han knew that she had to mix the two together in the bigger bowl. She then hefted up the mortar in both hands, and gently shook it; and saw that the liquid in the smaller bowl had become of a thicker consistency; and that the scent of anise was now more pronounced. Heh, looks like I’m on the road to success… she thought to herself as she then turned towards the bigger bowl, and slowly shook out the contents of the smaller bowl so that it fell into the bigger bowl. The texture and consistency of the melding of two liquids looked pretty funny to her from her current viewpoint (as she was apparently pouring some sort of syrup into a watery solution) but she realized that if a thicker liquid met a thinner one… then the resulting mixture would be a perfect balance! She then made sure that the pestle was sufficiently emptied out, before picking up the glass stirrer and then beginning to mix the two liquids together, being very careful not to slop some over the bowl’s edge. Be careful, be careful, be careful… she thought as she continued to mix the solution very carefully, noting that with each additional stir, the liquid was becoming closer to the texture of just-melted caramel in the microwave. Hey, weird analogy but it works for me… she thought as the two brown, murky-colored liquids melded together—and quite surprisingly the scent of anise and cinnamon complemented each other. But how does it taste? She mused to herself, continuing the mixture, and seeing that once she’d lifted the glass stirrer from the bowl, the solution that was running from it was similar to that of liquid honey in a bottle. “Only one way to find out…” she said to herself, quickly dipping in the stirrer one more time and getting a sufficient sample size; before letting the somewhat thick liquid dribble on her tongue. “Hmm…” she said, licking her lips together and then catching the excess run-off. “Tastes good…” she continued, watching as her Health bar slowly went up; but how much would be recovered? She then kept an eye on said Health bar as she quickly wiped down the stirrer with a spare piece of cloth from her Inventory; and then continued to swill the mixture together. Once the color was honey-like, she stopped altogether, and then dropped a bottle out of her Inventory and then very carefully added a ‘funnel’ as well, before picking up the bowl in both hands. She then watched as the thick liquid dribbled down the funnel; slowly but surely filling up the bottle. Once the entire glass bowl was empty, she checked the bowl and saw that there was just enough for one bottle of the Formula. “Ah well,” she said, tapping the sides of the bowl to make sure no more liquid was lost; and that everything wasn’t wasted. Once the bottle was sufficiently full, she then placed a cork in it, and then proceeded to clean up the work space; in order to be able to prepare for the final mixture that she had yet to practice for herself; which was the Sleeping Potion.
