It seemed that even with the help of his healing, Eonis was still losing health far too quickly even outside of battle. With a glance at the party list Ryker was able to establish why that was; Eonis was level one. That was also probably the main reason they were having trouble fighting the poisonous creature. The snakes were all above level one and out leveled both players by a small margin, however it was enough to nearly kill them and kept Ryker on edge every second they were fighting. Now the level difference was sinking in and Ryker felt utterly useless. Still, he kept healing his partner as best as possible. Though, there was only so much he could do with one healing spell. There was no telling how much damage Eonis would actually take in the time left and Ryker’s skill was resetting far to slowly for him to be sure the man would survive. His first battle and he was about to lose his first ally, wasn’t he?
“Oi!” The wolf-haired Guardian was apologizing to Ryker when suddenly the player began to tilt, his eyes closing for a fraction of a second as he took another bat of poison damage. Quickly, Ryker cast his healing spell and pull the man out of the danger zone. With only a few seconds left, that would be the last. With the out-of-combat healing as well as the effect of Ryker’s Healing Light, the Cleric was hopeful that the other player would survive, but it was still in the air. Even so, he could do nothing but watch so he stood up and stared at Eonis as he waited.
The man was speaking as if he was going to die, and Ryker didn’t particularly like it. Though he did not blame the fellow, not one bit. Seeing as he was level one, it was probably safe to assume that this was also his own first fight. Yet he did so lightly, as assuming anything was stupid. If it was his first fight, than surviving it would be crucial. If he died, Ryker could only hope that the man would have the guts to step out onto the field again. If he survived, than it would be a fun tale to tell. Ryker didn’t care which outcome it would be, personally. He had gained experience as both a Cleric and as a player. He knew his limits as a healer so he knew what he could do and what he couldn’t. As a player, he knew that the snakes were vicious and also about party-combat. Ryker had also learned that he sucked at fighting. He needed practice.
“Hey! Don’t black out!” Ryker shouted as Eonis was speaking and jolted forward. He would have smacked the guardian, but the fear of killing him held Ryker back. Instead he grabbed the man by the shoulders and quickly started to shake him.
“OI! OI!” The body began to go limp and Ryker watched as the player’s eyes closed shut. The poison notification vanished, leaving Eonis with barely any health left but the fact that he had survived was enough for Ryker.
“DOG BOY!” Ryker shouted, hoping and insult would work. It didn’t, obviously.
“YOUR TAIL IS ON FIRE! YOUR NOSE LOOKS HORRIBLE! YOUR EARS SUCK! Uh…” Ryker’s armory of insults were pitiful, and he had run out after just those three, leaving him dumbfounded. He was happy for that though, as a moment later he began to hear hissing. Perking up, Ryker looked around to see several snakes rising out of the grass around him. The Cleric’s heart shoved into his throat and he felt it stop.
“….Nope.” Ryker gripped onto Eonis and groaned loudly as he lifted the heavy player’s left arm around his own neck. The Cleric heaved air and dropped to a knee, leaning the heavy Guardian onto his body to make them both one.
“Wait a minute…” Ryker paused as he looked at his own display; he forgot, he was in a game! Rather than attempt to carry the other man who was most likely twice the size as Ryker, he took the other player’s hand and pawed at the air, making Eonis’s menu pop up in front of him. A few taps later and he keyed the “Call to Home” spell which was available to all players. Just after hitting the button, the Guardian’s body quickly dispersed into pixels and the player vanished. Ryker flailed at the air for a moment and lurched over towards where the man had been. The heavy weight suddenly vanishing threw him off balance.
“Gogogogogogo!” The flailing didn’t stop as Ryker hit the dirt, and he quickly scrambled to his feet as two of the snakes around him engaged his position. The Cleric dove out of the way and popped up to his feet, jumping over another snake before stepping on its head.
“SORRY!” He shouted as the creature hissed loudly in anger. With a hard shove, Ryker vaulted out of the open area and began to sprint into the forest, electing the escape option rather than deal with the cluster of snakes. As he ran, Ryker opened his menu and went to select the Call to Home spell but it was grayed out. After further inspection, it was grayed out because he needed to be out of combat.
“FANTASTIC!” The outcry echoed into the forest and Ryker kept running. Oh yes, he ran like hell.
