The days had been long and mostly eventless after Caerbannog had reached her goal of getting to Level 90 blacksmith. Once again, she had almost no reason to go out of the guild house and indeed, if she always had her way, the samurai would just remain in her quarters all morning, afternoon and evening. Every now and then, she had some adventures with Kumori but he was rather slow at time and not quite like what one would expect of an assassin. Still, Caer found no fault in that as she herself tended to be rather distracted sometimes. But there was one thing, one specific creature that would not let up. Unlike Hyzenthlay who had gotten accustomed to the slow life in the vegetable patch and Hrairoo who had always been passive, the elite centipede Foreman Mukade IX was anything but. He could, at times, be rather too pushy and bordered on obnoxious, but the centipede was a genuinely curious creature that kept the samurai on her toes. His level, being half of Caerbannog animal training level, was way too low for him to defy her and even if he was compared to the samurai’s base level that would just be an even bigger gap. But Caerbannog did not see her tamed creatures as slaves; rather, they were companions whom she could grow with. She learned from them, and they too learned from her. The creatures knew the lay of the land and the tamer knew the ways of adventuring.
It was for this reason that Caerbannog, though reluctant, went out early in the morning with her elite centipede in tow. She had been at her home with Kumori, at Savill Flower Grove; the house still needed some work done to it but the samurai was still waiting for some of her crafting research to be accepted by the system. Their home was temporarily furbished with lander-made items which were not half bad, merely of a rather low quality. Mukade IX, whom Caerbannog at times referred to as Muu-chan, had tapped on the window pane of the couple’s bedroom. The wolf-hair, who could not sleep anyway due to her husband’s snoring, rolled out of bed and jumped out of the window. She made sure to close the unconventional entry way behind her so that the draft would not wake her dear hubby up. Without as much as a word to Kumori, the samurai then hopped onto the back of her trusty steed, the centipede Foreman Mukade IX, and away they went. Notably, the wolf-hair was still wearing the pink bear pajamas that she had once used as she ran around in a bar called the Australian Kiss. She remembered little of that encountered save for the warmth and bounciness of Elkeid’s boobs. Oh! How it remind her of pillows; but more importantly and unknown to Caerbannog herself, it was the warmth of a mother- something that the samurai never knew. Perhaps that was a reason why, despite Elkeid’s rough nature, Caerbannog still looked up to the woman even outside of adventuring.
Perhaps it was early mornings that made Caerbannog and her roleplayer rather sentimental. That, or the fact that neither of them had eaten breakfast and so the draft affected their heads. Still, there were stories and appreciation worth telling, if only to let the people know that they were wanted and needed. Another fairly unlikeable person, if measured by conventional means, was the druid Scoria. He had the tendency to troll and did not play his class as he was expected. If anything, he at times made it difficult for his fellow adventurers to fight in his presence. Ice fields tend to make people fall flat on their face after all. But in Caerbannog’s perhaps too accepting nature, she cared not for his ways or his means or even his words. As far as she’s seen, Scoria had been able to accomplish his tasks, mostly through not quite normal methods, and that in itself was something worth trusting him for. He also had a very cute baby. OH! She was the most adorable little sprite ever! Caerbannog did not know the baby’s name so for a long time, she was merely called “baby” but in their last personal encounter, the Alraune had revealed its name to be “Kaguya”. Or at least, that was how she called herself. Caer thought it was an adorable and fitting name, so she called the Alraune by the name “Kaguya” too. They had even attended her wedding with Kumori and the baby was so very pretty that day. The bride, unfortunately, got drunk and did not remember a thing about the whole ordeal; she only knew that she had been married, and that was that.
Before Caerbannog noticed, she and her mighty steed were out of their yard and had gotten deep into the Greatwoods of Windsor. She knew little about the place and only remembered the areas close to the main road, for the woodlands were far too vast and complicated after all; and yet, the samurai did not mind being “lost”. That is, until her stomach grumbled and complained that it had not eaten a bite since the previous evening. The elite centipede was probably hungry as well, she thought, and so Caerbannog gently tapped the side of Muu-chan’s great maw. The creature slowed down and eventually came to a stop, at which point the tamer pointed to the base of a massive tree and there, Muu-chan lay down. Caer hopped off of her steed’s back and proceeded to check her inventory for items that she could have for breakfast. Spicy things were out of the question and so were sweets and cold things, for they would all upset her tummy. Pancakes, although sweet, were standard breakfast fare and so she took those out and shared them with Muu-chan. The massive centipede grumbled in delight; the soft fluffiness of the pancakes was delightful to him although he could not taste anything as adventurers did. After the meal, both tamer and pet contentedly lay down without a word- that is until their tummies quickly digested the pancakes, and both felt famished once again.

The pair’s first stop was the Coastline of the river Thames which led out to the open sea. Caerbannog’s stomach rumbled and her head felt light, something that Mukade noticed what with a centipede’s tendency to be more sensitive to unseen things. A few landers had just brought in an early haul from the waters and they busily picked through the catch. The samurai casually walked up to them, still in her pajamas, and then she held out a handful of gold.
“I take the smallest ones!” exclaimed the girl.
The landers looked at each other, no doubt puzzled by the exchange of gold for some of their smallest, most useless catch; but gold was gold and they did not refuse her offer. For a handful of gold from a vertically-challenged adventurer which seemed to be a child lost in the woods, the landers exchanged a basket of the smallest fishes from their catch. Caer then waved towards what seemed to be an empty space, but as soon as she gave the signal and stomped on the ground, a rumbling occurred beneath the landers’ feet and a massive centipede rose from the ground.
“Greetings, meat babies!” Mukade greeted the shocked people of the land.
“Please, the basket,” was Caerbannog’s request.
“Certainly!” the centipede nodded at his tamer and then he bowed politely towards the landers, “If you’ll excuse me…”
The men remained speechless as the creature took the basket of small fish from them, and then it daintily carried off the container with its appendages while the little adventurer walked by its side. That was indeed a strange start to their morning, and soon the landers wondered if they were just seeing things. As for Caer and Mukade, they found a great tree in the nearby Greatwoods; the clearing was calm and quiet with not even a single frenmic rabbit in sight. The samurai, still knowledgeable about the basics of cooking even without her crafting class, started a fire by using some flint in her inventory and dry wood from all over the forest floor. After three strikes, the dry wood was ignited and the centipede marveled at the sight.
“A small sun!” Mukade clicked his appendages, “Amazing! Can all meat babies create those orbs of light?”
In his time spent around adventurers and most especially his own tamer, Foreman Mukade IX had learned a thing or two about the world outside his cave. The source of warmth that he always wondered about turned out to be a massive orb in the sky called the “sun” and during the evenings, the sun would set behind the mountains and the “moon” would light their way. Light and darkness mattered little to the centipede though; it was blind after all. However, he did like the sun very much because it was a source of warmth… except when it burned too brightly which in turn would dry out the centipede’s skin. Caerbannog had learned to keep the massive creature cool and damp as all centipedes should be.
“Fire” was the next best thing. Adventurers could actually make it, and his own tamer could control how hot the fire should be. It was better than the sun because it could be modulated, but the centipede had learned the hard way that fire could burn anything that it touched, or any centipede that touched it. Mukade had long since recovered from the minor burn but he still kept in mind that fire should not be played with. As for Caerbannog, she had also learned to be more careful when introducing her pets to new concepts and things.
“I’ll cook fish!” Caer declared; she truly loved cooking and had only taken up blacksmithing due to necessity, a sacrifice necessary for progress.
It was not any more difficult to clean the fish as when she was chef, but the lack of a cooking interface on her game menu made things slightly harder for the samurai. And so Caerbannog focused on gutting the little fishies and removing their scales and cleaning them up. Mukade had so kindly offered to devour the raw fish innards- something that the centipede actually liked- and so there was little waste in Caerbannog’s attempt at cooking. The pair then gathered more branches and used them as skewers for the clean fish which Caer had also seasoned with various edible herbs that she found in the area. She might no longer be a chef, but that did not mean that her knowledge about cooking had diminished. The only difference was that she did not have the chef menu and so she was basically flying blind whenever she cooked.
“Mmm~ there is a distinct sensation in the air around it!” Mukade hovered over the bonfire as the herbed fishes were slowly cooked in the open flame.
The centipede’s maxillipeds twitched as he took in the smoke and he seemed much like a child who was excited for the upcoming meal time. Caerbannog herself felt very hungry but she knew to wait until the fish was thoroughly cooked, otherwise she might have a tummy ache and their little adventure would be cut short. After a short while of waiting and much caution to make sure that the fire would not spread to nearby leaves or branches, the fish cooked in open fire was ready. The samurai handed one skewered fish to the centipede who in turn slowly ate it up, as opposed to Caer who gobbled up her own meal. Mukade savored the fish; even though he could not taste it per se, he could still savor the various sensations brought about by the chemicals in the cooked meal. For a while, the area smelled of delicious herbs and rang of happiness and laughter from the tamer and her pet centipede. The day was young and the sun was not too high up the sky; they could still take their time and just enjoy the sights and the company of a good adventurer and a gentleman centipede.

"Would you like to hear a story, Muu-chan?" the tamer asked her pet centipede as they sat beside the bonfire with their bellies full of delicious fish.
"Of course! Stories are nice!" Mukade IX clicked his appendages as he settled down closer to his tamer.
It was quite the sight, a vertically-challenged adventurer in pink bear pajamas beside a blind centipede which was more than twice her size. Neither seemed apprehensive of the other, and if the creature had not looked like the stuff of nightmares, one might be able to say that this was simply a little girl who had taken her pet out for a walk. But Foreman Mukade IX was anything but a dog on a leash. If he so desired, he could catch the tamer unaware and deliver critical damage. But Mukade IX desired only one thing: cake. Cake, cake, lots of cake! He had been rather discomforted by his tamer's decision to become a blacksmith instead of a chef, but as long as she had a means to provide him with delicious cake then he had no reason to turn against her or to leave her altogether. Cakes don't grow on trees, you know.
Back to the storytelling at hand, Caerbannog cleaned up the last of the makeshift skewers and she burned the things in the open flame. The smoke rose high and above the trees towards the wide sky which was slowly changing from a pale orange to a calm blue. The samurai rubbed the sleepiness from her eyes as she wondered about her father whom she left back in Germany. She wondered about her aunts and uncles and her cousins, ones in Europe and in Asia. Did any of them play Elder Tale too? Were they trapped in this new world just like her? And what if, only if, the real world were to merge with the world of Elder Tale?
"The place I came from..." Caer began as the centipede excitedly waited for the story, "The place where all adventurers came from. I will tell you about it."
She began with a gesture to the trees and to the sky and to the nearby River Thames.
"This place looks like the one where I came from but... the people are different," she said, "And the cities are different. Much bigger, louder. So many cars and buildings and other things."
The wolf-hair then looked to the centipede.
"And our centipedes did no grow as large as Muu-chan," Caer snickered.
"What are cars?" the ever-inquisitive creature asked.
"Hmm... it's like a cart. But it has a roof so I guess it is like a carriage. But it is not pulled by cows or horses, and it is made of metal. If you get hit by it, it feels very ouch!" the wolf-hair exclaimed.
"A means of transportation that is capable of inducing ouch," Mukade IX scratched his chin, "Why would anyone create something so painful?!"
Caerbannog giggled.
"It doesn't hurt the driver. It only hurts if you get hit by it, like when you use Bulldoze," the samurai pointed out.
"Ah, so it is a metal contraption that uses a skill like Bulldoze," the centipede summarized, "What a frightful beast!"

Caerbannog nodded to her companion, the elite centipede Foreman Mukade IX, as he summarized everything that she had said into just a few phrases. An appropriate simplification. She could only imagine how difficult it would be for a creature such as the centipede, who had only known the darkness of the caves in Sarum, to adjust to the sun-kissed lands of Elder Tale; it was probably even more difficult for Mukade IX to wrap his brain around the idea of a whole other world altogether. But because she was his tamer, the centipede believed her words and tried his best to understand the concept of the "Other-World" based on what he knew.
"I always thought this place, Elder Tale, was just a game," the samurai said, "A world created by someone's imagination. But then we were transported into this world and it seems just as real as our world."
The centipede rubbed his chin with one of his appendages. He then looked up to the sky, at whatever direction it was that his tamer looked at. She seemed to just be staring at blank space though. Nothing in particular, just something or somewhere up "there". At that moment, the centipede put an appendage on his tamer's shoulder.
"Do you wish to return to your world?" he asked.
The wolf-hair snapped out of her recollections and musings, and then she turned to look at the giant centipede beside her.
"Yes," was her simple answer.
"Ah. Sometimes I feel a longing for my quiet place in the cave, there in the darkness where I knew nothing but the damp floor and ceiling and walls," Mukade IX said, "Some would say that I'd be a fool for wanting to return there. But there are just some things that others cannot understand. As long as you are here, I will fight beside you. When the time comes that you have to return to your world, I will bid you farewell and I shall return to my home in the caverns."
Caer nodded at Muu-chan, and then she took out an ice cream cake from her inventory. She offered it to the centipede, as usual.
"Oh! But I surely will miss this wondrous treat when that time comes!" Muu-chan gobbled up the cake in one bite, though careful not to harm his tamer.
As for the samurai, she thought about "when". When that time comes, the centipede had said. She thought of her current situation which was rather too good to be true. Despite the violence that she had to put up with, she and other adventurers were all immortals in Elder Tale. But was there ever true immortality? Someday she will leave this world, and when that time comes, she would have to say goodbye to everything and everyone that she had come to know in the world of Elder Tale. She could only hope that the departure would not be abrupt and that she would have enough time to say her proper farewells.

Whatever remained of the early morning, including the mist and the fog, slowly dissipated as sunlight shone brighter upon the Windsor Greatwoods. The fishermen were almost done with their morning haul and their catch was distributed amongst the awaiting merchants soon enough. As the hour ticked by, a different group of people appeared at the Thames Coastline. Treasure hunters, not unlike Caerbannog herself who had pulled up some chests and valuable vases from the deep, began to scour the riverside. Some of them had diving gear, undoubtedly some essential tools if one wanted to go further from the side of the Thames. Mukade IX and his tamer looked on but did not bother the incoming people, both landers and adventurers, who had arrived to seek their fortune.
"What do you do in your world?" the centipede asked, "How do you get food and... what's that odd thing that you use for exchanging... money?"
A curious question but a valid one. In that aspect, Kyuu Schwarz's world was also different from Elder Tale. The real world had many assortment of jobs, some manual and hard labor, others more intellectual and did not require dirtying one's hands. Elder Tale was a more hands-on world; even scribes, who used their intellect to read and write ancient scripts, still had to use their own hands to create grimoires or at least to mend them.
"Some people cook, or keep house, but there are other more specific jobs like..." the samurai scratched her cheek, "Well, here there's an awfully small list of illnesses. In the real world, there are so many diseases and there are people who work hard to discover what causes them. And then there are people who make medicine for that. And people who improve whatever is already made."
"Oh? Are your people always sick then?" Mukade inquired.
"Hmmm... not really," Caer watched the busy treasure hunters as she spoke with the centipede, "It's just that there are so many people in our world. Seven billion."
"WHOA! Seven billion!" the elite beast almost jumped, "That's... is that more than seven hundred?"
The blue-eyed samurai snickered.
"Yes, it is way more than seven hundred," she answered.
"You have so many people in your world!" Mukade waved his appendages around in disbelief, "How do they fit in cities and houses and caves?!"
Truly, the world where Caerbannog came from was different from Elder Tale while still remaining rather similar to it. The MMORPG was, after all, the "Half-Gaia" project which meant that it was roughly half the size of the real Earth with regards to land coverage. Areas were overgrown as if they had long since been forgotten, and only recently were the Undergrounds and Londinium's tracks discovered. While Caer continued to wonder about the differences and similarities of Earth and Elder Tale, Foreman Mukade IX watched the enthusiastic treasure hunters along the coastline. It seemed that someone from a group had discovered a rather large haul, but it was still to be brought up from the deep.

The tamer's musings were interrupted by the thought of her husband still sleeping soundly in their bed. Oh, how he would be surprised to see that empty space beside him! Kumori had worked hard to create cute things such as pajamas and plushies just to convince Caerbannog to sleep in the same bed with him. It wasn't that she thought it weird; they'd fallen asleep beside each other in the real world after all. It was just that Caer preferred her Cave, a mountainous construct made of various plushies that she collected. At long last, when they moved into their private estate, Kumori finally convinced his wife to sleep beside him... amidst a pile of plushies of course. Her outfits and demeanor did not make her out to be "wife material", but he seemed to love her nonetheless. Maybe there's something wrong with his head.As for the samurai, she liked sleeping in a big, fluffy bed beside many fluffy things. Ryuu-nii's presence was not too bad either... except for his snoring. It only happened when he was very tired and most days, she thought it cute. The wolf-hair would watched her husband's calm, resting face and she would listen to his loud sounds; then she would drift off to sleep. Not too surprising for Caerbannog was used to sleeping in loud environments. She had to deal with her cousins' screamo albums during family reunions and on the rare occasion that they visited her, they would play war games on her game system all night.
There were days or nights, however, when Caerbannog could scarce get a wink of sleep due to her husband's snoring. Those times were few and far in between, and she did not love him any less for it. In truth, she found it rather hilarious that such a strong adventurer like him would have such moments of vulnerability. She had thought of letting Mukade sleep in the bed between her and Kumori so that the latter would wake up to a centipede's maw instead of his wife's little face, but Caer was worried about the centipede's well-being. He could be stabbed to death by a confused assassin after all. As the minutes ticked by and as Mukade IX enjoyed watching the coastline and all its busy people, Caerbannog thought of pranks that she could play on her unsuspecting husband. Her habit of sitting on his lap was getting old and it barely received any more interesting reactions from the young man. Perhaps a slice of pepper in his food would do the trick? Or she could take a stroll around Londinium with him one day, and then suddenly cry out that she was kidnapped! Brilliant! Why Caerbannog liked playing these pranks, it isn't quite the mystery. She was still a child in more ways that one, but she could be serious when necessary. More importantly, she saw Kumori as someone that would understand her weird ways. Also, he's a masochist and she's kind of a sadist.

It was well past early morning and so more people poured in from the cities and from the main roads. The surrounding small settlements, full of the usual farmers and opportunistic merchants, sent in some of their people too so that they could try their hand at treasure hunting. For Caerbannog, that activity had long since been done and she would rather not do it alone. Foreman Mukade IX could swim and would be useful in the water, but unlike Hyzenthlay he could not summon extra creeps that would be able to assist them. And she was sure that Hyzen did not like their watery escapade back then; the enemic buster had only obliged because at that time, Caerbannog was her tamer. Moreover, if some danger fell upon Hyzenthlay, the samurai would not be able to unsummon her out of harm's way. If anything, she could go out treasure hunting with Reynard again, or maybe Kumori. Either way, the wolf-hair was not going to hop into the water with just her pet centipede in tow no matter how enthusiastic the creature seemed to be.
"I got one! A really big one!" shouted a lander who was in the waters of the river Thames.
The treasure hunters who were with the man gathered at the coastline and some of them swam out to meet him. Other groups looked on to confirm if indeed there was a big haul, and to their surprise (and envy), the lander pulled up a big old wooden chest onto land. At that point, Foreman Mukade IX clicked his appendages and turned to Caerbannog.
"They seem excited! What is in that box?" he asked his tamer.
The blue-eyed wolf-hair, uninterested in gold and riches, put her knees up close to her face as she remained seated on the warm ground. She then put her arms around her legs and rested her chin on her knees.
"Hmm... maybe some things that can be sold for moneys," Caer finally replied to Mukade.
"Moneys is very important huh? Squishy meat bipeds use it in exchange for what they need," the centipede sounded less enthusiastic about the treasure hunt and more curious about how the world of bipedal meat babies work, "Why don't they just catch crag cows for food?"
Because man is greedy; is what Caerbannog would have said, but she refrained from doing so. She knew of people who had more than what they needed, but still they wanted more. They only cared about the people who were directly under them, and if someone was not an underling then he was as good as dead. Even if he was just a new adventurer who was just starting out in the world, some people don't care. Unless they are in the same group, they'd toss that newbie to the wolves. Or just ignore them altogether. That was not how Caerbannog lived and the reason why she tried so hard to earn gold was not to be the best or the richest. It was so that she could help others who were just at the starting point, a starting point that she was standing on before. But of course, if there were people who thought like her, there was the complete opposite who thought that if he could do it by himself then newbies should screw themselves trying as hard as he did or they weren't worth his time or effort.
"Meat babies are weak," she replied to the centipede, "Even if they think they are strong."

Gosh! Caerbannog was getting really serious! Bad Caer Bear, bad! Soon the samurai snapped out of her negative mindset. It happened a few times only during her new life in Elder Tale, usually it was due to some misunderstanding with another person or a fight with Kumori. But the worst had passed and the sun shone brightly again! The samurai stood up straight, put her hands on her hips and let out a very long and loud "HAAAAAAAAH!" It was audible only to herself and to Mukade though, for the coastline was by itself loud and bustling. Even the loudest shout of a little girl would be drowned out by the noise that such excited people made.
"Well, that's none of our business!" Caer exclaimed, "So let's go somewhere else!"
The wolf-hair motioned for her pet centipede to follow, and that he did. Foreman Mukade IX, despite its frightening appearance, was mild-mannered and more of a gentleman than most of the men that Caerbannog had ever met. The creature nodded at his tamer and, though he was curious of the treasure hunt, he followed the samurai over towards the Isle of Grain. The walk was short and pleasant; the sun was not too bright yet, and the warmth of the air was just enough for both the girl and her centipede. After a short while, they reached the land bridge which had just emerged above the waves. Mukade had never seen such an occurrence before so naturally, he was excited! The centipede clicked his appendages as Caerbannog led the way to the narrow path of the bridge. Only a few people met them from the other side, and they were all wary of the massive insect that followed the little girl.
"Is that..." a man stopped to ask, "- a centipede?"
He stared up at Foreman Mukade IX. Rather rude, but the elite beast actually appreciated the attention. He was quite strange like that.
"Yes, Sir!" Caerbannog replied with a salute, "Would you like to pet him?"
The person of the land flinched.
"Er... no, haha," he laughed nervously.
The man took another look at Mukade and then at Caerbannog, and then at Mukade again. He then waved at the two and soon the man was on his way; down the Thames Coastline as well, apparently, perhaps to fish or to try his hand at the treasure hunt. As for the wolf-hair, she walked over to the side of the bridge and looked into the water. It was a deep blue which signified the dangerous depth of the water level, though still not as dark or deep as the deadliest depths. A warm, smelly splotch then landed on the samurai's head: seagulls. The girl looked up and there were a few of the dumb birds circling about, perhaps ready to snatch away the good of some late fishermen. Caerbannog sighed at the sight. Those creatures were every bit just as obnoxious in Elder Tale as they were in the real world.

An animal lover, Caerbannog was not about to kill some seagull just because they were obnoxious. As one of the creatures swooped low to release a stink bomb on one of the incoming landers, Caer shot a Wind Bullet close to the diving bird. It rolled over to one side to avoid the shot of wind, but since the bird was unsure as to what caused the sudden gust to blow towards it, it just flew away instead of engaging Caerbannog in a fight (one that it would surely lose).
"What are those meat babies that live in the clouds?" Foreman Mukade IX curiously asked as his antennae twitched towards the sky.
While the centipede could not see the coastal seagulls, he could feel that there was something 'alive' up there. Truly, the venture to the Outside was a memorable one and worth the effort that he put into it. Unlike most of his kin which were just interested with eating and sleeping and growing to massive sizes, Mukade IX was interested in the world that he lived in. Most importantly, he was interested on cake. Ah, the delicious concoction of, if he remembered Caerbannog's explanations correctly, some white powdered made from plants, the unborn children of hens, rocks from mountains or seas, tears from the heavens, and some other things that he had never encountered before. Cake was the best thing ever, accordingly to Foreman Mukade IX; pie was a close second-best, and crag cows came in third. Oh, how he could laze all day and just eat cake, pie and cows! But even as Mukade had those thoughts, he was still wary of his tamer's well-being and current state. If the seagull had turned around to engage the wolf-hair, Mukade IX would have swiped it from the sky and he also would have minced it to a thousand unrecognizable pieces.
"They are called seagulls," the wolf-hair explained, unsure as to how she should explain the concept of flying creatures to her earthbound pet.
But Foreman Mukade IX did not ask any other questions after that. He contentedly looked out to the open sea as he daydreamed about cakes and pies and crag cows. If only people could read the centipede's thoughts, how they would snicker and laugh and they would probably no longer be afraid of him just because of his imposing appearance. Unfortunately, in the real world and in Elder Tale, most people and creatures were judged based on their appearance. And for good reason, usually; would you just run up to a massive centipede and hug it? Of course not! The first reaction would be: DANGER DANGER RUN AWAY! It was perhaps a subconscious self-preservation mechanism that humans had.

The centipede and his tamer continued to look out into the open sea as the sun made its way up the sky. By the time that the orb of fire was halfway to its zenith, the elite beast seemed to have had enough of twitching his antennae at the wind. Foreman Mukade IX turned to his tamer and then he clicked his appendages towards the Isle of Grain. Caerbannog nodded and then she turned to lead the way into the village. Far from the usual main road and the city of Londinium, the samurai was content in just seeing the sights and breathing in the cool air. There were some landers that walked from the direction of the village, most if not all were merchants who were headed to either Londinium or Avon. Some had carts for their wares, others traveled lightly and walked on foot; many of them turned to look at the massive centipede, and then down at the girl who was still in her pajamas. They made up an odd pairing, to say the least, but because the landers of Grain Village did not know Caerbannog that well, they did not pester her. Those from the village who did know Caer knew to stay out of her way, for the last time that she threw a tantrum, the samurai had destroy a local pub. She had the gold to have it rebuilt, but those who heard about the incident knew to steer clear of her and her companions.
As soon as they arrived at the entrance to Grain Village, a pair of coastal seagulls dropped their "bombs" in front of Caerbannog. The wolf-hair looked up at the sky and toggled on her Wind Bullet skill, and then she shot one at the seagulls. They squawked and scattered. She remembered that time when flocks of the vile beasts pestered the village, and she had been there to drive them away along with some summoners. Speaking of which, she wondered if she could ever summon two beasts at once. There was some idiot before who suggested that she tame one of those cheap ugly things from the swamp and abuse its ability to summon more of its kind, but Caerbannog was not interested in those kinds of tactics. Most especially because the idiot was some Level 1 Forever-Scrub who would rather talk endlessly all day instead of actually going out to face the wide world. Sometimes people think that strategies will play out perfectly, but that's all a simulation in their head. Aside from the player versus environment factor, there were also other independent thinkers in Elder Tale aside from the adventurers; namely the very people that lived in Grain Village, the People of the Land. To say that they were dispensable would be similar to murder, because in Caerbannog's experience, they were just as "human" as her.
By the time that Caer snapped out of her musings though, Foreman Mukade IX had slithered off to a nearby shop. It had cake. Of course. The samurai looked at the displays on the window; pies, breads and cakes of many kinds! She liked cream cakes the most, but cheesecakes were good too. And pie, oh that reminded her of Scoria who seemed to have some kind of pie on his person all the time. The tamer glanced over to the breads on display but found nothing that intrigued her. When she was in Japan, Kyuu liked a certain kind of rice dough bread with cream cheese inside but she figured that it would be a stretch to expect it from a European-inspired bakery. The cakes and pies on display were good enough though, and so she hopped into the shop while Foreman Mukade IX stayed outside. The centipede was quite the gentleman and he knew that the little shop would be cramped if he slithered in, and so Mukade IX stayed by the display window so that he could just point at the things that he wanted.
"Good morning! What would be your-" the baker suddenly went pale when the little samurai in pajamas walked in, "H-hello!"
Caerbannog merely blinked at the lander. She had been drunk at that time and so the tamer remembered next to nothing, but the baker had been a passer-by when she destroyed The Midnight Bell's wall. In his mind, it enforced the hearsay about immortal and powerful adventurers who came from a land beyond what he knew. If compared to real world myths, adventurers were similar to the gods and goddesses of ancient mythology. And understandably too, for they leveled up much faster than landers and even if killed, an adventurer would merely respawn. The samurai herself was one of the most frightening examples: a child prone to tantrums who could destroy buildings with one sweep of her blade. Caer remained oblivious to this stereotyping. She just wanted some cake and pie.
"Crag cow pie, please," the girl asked of the lander as she put some pieces of gold on his counter, "And a slice of banoffee pie."
The cakes on the display did look nice but she wanted to be able to eat things as they walked along. So, one whole pie for the centipede and a slice of delicious bananas, cream and toffee for her. The baker hurriedly packed the order, took the payment and then he bade the samurai farewell. He was shaking in his shoes though, and the lander almost screamed in terror when he saw that Caerbannog was acquainted with the nightmarish creature that lurked in front of his display window. Glad to be rid of the frightening visitors, the baker sank to a chair and had one of his own sweet pies as a treat. The samurai Caerbannog remained oblivious still as she bit into the heavenly cream and bananas. Her centipede inspected his own pie for few moments as they walked along before he pushed the entire thing through his gaping maw. Mukade IX clicked his maxillipeds happily once the deed was done, and the duo was off to the next unfortunate establishment.
