A loud clocked chimed in the distance as she entered this new area. Once… twice… seven times it rang out. It had been six in the evening when she had started this adventure, so an hour had passed already. It simply didn’t feel like she had spent that long in the lobby. Those Mini Jacks must have eaten up more time of hers than she thought. Artemisia blinked twice, her eyes adjusted to the new area. It was clearly a continuation of the mansion. It had the same mix of welcoming and dreary.
The area laid out before her was, for the most part, a wide, long hallway. However, it may be more accurate to call it a room, given its unnecessarily large scale. Several doors lined the hall and just barely in the distance, she could see a door at the far end. That was probably the one she needed to reach. Artemisia took a hesitant step forward, waiting for some sort of trap or monster to spring out at her. Behind her, a few of the Mini Jacks had apparently followed her through the door and were continuing their playful dance around her.
Her little fox tail swished as she took a few more steps forward. She wanted to feel more confident about this but somehow this was giving her flashbacks to the various haunted houses she, as April, had visited before her she had come to live in Elder Tale. If there was anything to know about haunted houses, it was that something, somewhere was waiting to spring on you. As if not to let her down, the door to her left was suddenly thrown open. Artemisia immediately raised her staff and pointed it towards the door, ready to cast one of the few spells she knew…

Much to Artemisia’s surprise, a human shaped creature emerged from behind the door. It was carrying a rather large armful of towels. Looking past the towels, she could see it was not a human… but some sort of goblin-like creature. It appeared to be of the female variety given the fact that it was wearing a black maids outfit. It took the maid only a moment to notice her. It seemed to be just as surprised by her presence as Artemisia was by hers. The goblin woman jumped back, startled, and quickly disappeared back the way she had come. Before Artemisia could grab the door to follow her, it slammed shut in her face.
“Well, that was rude…” Artemisia wrinkled her nose, glaring at the door. The Mini Jacks around her bobbed up and down again, twisting and spinning in the air with their ridiculous grins. Just in case, she wiggled the door handle, but it remained stubbornly shut. Artemisia sighed heavily and continued to make her way down the hall, leaving the door behind her. Lining the walls were several paintings which she was certain were watching her every move.
Assuming this was the same as the first area, she was certain to have to solve some sort of puzzle or riddle once she reached the door at the end. Chances were also high that the puzzles would continue to scale in difficulty as she made her way deeper into the mansion. Each step the blonde took echoed off the quiet hall. The Mini Jacks tailing her were casting shadows on the walls but otherwise, she was alone.
In hopes that a clue would be laid out for her, she scanned the room. There was nothing obviously clue-like. All she could see was the various stars, moons and suns adorning the doors. That didn't seem entirely useful but it also seemed somehow deliberate…

It was as if the door wasn't getting any closer. It still felt like she had barely made any progress, despite having been walking towards it for some time now. “Must just be an optical illusion or something…” She muttered to herself, determined to continue until she made her way out of here. She glanced to her side at one of the Mini Jacks following her. So far, all of the creatures she had run into had been friendly but she simply couldn't shake this feeling that not everything was as adorable as these amusing pumpkins.
The little jack-o-lanterns keeping her company continued to snicker silently to themselves every so often, as if she was missing something obvious. “You know, you guys could just help me out instead of laughing at me…” She flipped one of her long pig tails over her shoulder, huffing as she spoke to the orange creatures. In response, they simply spun around and grinned at her. Really, they're cute but kind of creepy… She thought to herself, watching their playful dance.
Finally, after what felt like a way more time than was necessary, Artemisia finally reached the end of the long room. Before her was a beautiful wooden door. Engraved in the middle-top half of it was an intricate design incorporating the suns, stars, and moons that adorned all of the previous doors. Without a doubt, this was the right door. To confirm, she reached her hand out and twisted the knob. Locked. She applied a little more force and, same as the first time, a display appeared. It presented her with a riddle once more.
Given the design of the room and the theme of the riddle, the answer was definitely going to be something cosmic in nature. She started guessing various things which came to mind, hoping to randomly hit on the answer. Her list of wrong answers was getting longer and longer. Apparently there was some sort of punishment for continuing to fail because a suit of armor she had passed started twitching, as if waking up. “Uh, um.. oh, damnit.. anything, anything…” She glanced frantically behind her as the armor creaked and shifted. “C’mon, c’mon…!” The suit stood and glanced around, looking for its target. It quickly locked on her and immediately began clunking its way towards her. “Please let this be right…!” She shouted out her last guess and miraculously heard a click. Sparing not even a moment, she flung the door open and threw herself into the next area.
