Artemisia placed her small hand over her flat chest, breathing deeply. It seemed as if the statue of armor was not able to follow her from one area to the next, much to her relief. She had felt fairly sure it would not be able to follow her, given that she had moved to a new area, but… She glanced at the Mini Jacks which had been able to follow her. Why could they move from room to room but the armor couldn’t? She puzzled over this for a moment before dismissing it from her mind. So far, these little pumpkins had been harmless. That suit of armor was definitely not. She didn’t really care if these playful fruits followed her.
Her breathing and heart rate settled, she looked around her new challenge. It was quite similar to where she had come from except this one turned to the left a little, opening up into an area she couldn’t quite see from this angle. One of the Mini Jack dashed out in front of her, towards this room. A few seconds later and the others followed behind it, disappearing out of her view. Her right fox ear twitched, swiveling in a half circle. It was just barely audible but she thought she could hear noises coming from where the Mini Jack had disappeared to.
There was nothing to do but venture forth. She had already cleared two areas, after all. Even if she could go back, the idea of facing that angry suit of armor was most certainly not appealing. Besides, it was her curiosity which had gotten her into this mess in the first place, how could she ignore the drive to discover more at this point? With that in mind, Artemisia took a few steady steps forward, following after the Mini Jack.

She stopped just where the hall turned and placed her back to the wall. Although she was not skilled in sneaking around, perhaps a bit of precaution was wise in this case. Quietly, she peeked her head around, her staff gripped tightly between her fingers. It was an interesting sight, to say the least. Huddled together were at least a dozen or so pumpkins. They seemed to be congregating around something, but she couldn't see it.
Her green eyes moved over the rest of the room. Her entire body stiffened as her eyes locked with the piercing stare of a rather intimidating creature. Her attempt at being sneaky was of no use, it had clearly known of her presence from the moment she entered the hall. The little Mini Jacks which had followed her in were playfully dancing at the obscured feet of the creature in the corner. Swallowing hard, Artemisia brought up the menu screen to find out more about this sharp eyed monster. She quietly cast her Evaluate skill on it.
It was a monster known as a “Ripper Jack” and it was several times her level. Was she going to have to fight it…? Was her adventure in this mansion done already…? Well, if that was the case, there was no use delaying things. Artemisia closed the info screen and stepped into the room. The Ripper Jack watched her. “H-hey?” She smiled at it nervously and politely tipped her head towards it. Maybe if she simply didn’t offend the creature, it would simply watch her. Hoping that was the case, Artemisia moved over to the crowd of pumpkins.
Once she was closer, she could see there was a plaque on the wall which they were all looking at. She read it quickly, and then read it twice more carefully, absorbing the words. She looked down at the pumpkins, who seemed incredibly eager to begin confusing her with their riddles.

“One day, four rivals got into a fight. Tell me who won and what their class was.” A chilling voice cut the silence from behind her, causing her hair to stand on end. It was the Ripper Jack. So, he was here to guard the door, then? She exhaled deeply and turned her attention back to the pumpkins. So long as she could solve this riddle then there would be no need to fight the Ripper Jack. As soon as her eyes fell on the pumpkins, they perked up and immediately began rapid firing their riddle at her.
She listened intently to their words, trying to process each bit of information. Half way through, her eyes went a little crossed as she tried to follow their story. After they had finished, the Ripper Jack spoke again. "Before you start spamming answers, listen up. I ain't listening to multiple answers.” It felt like a serious threat. “Talk to the pumpkins if you want to hear them talk again. I sure don't." He stated coolly and then went back to silently eyeing her.
Frustrated, Artemisia flopped down on the floor, staring up at the ceiling. She muttered to herself, trying to repeat the riddle back and work out the clues. Half of the pumpkins were lying to her and the other half were telling half-truths. How could she even be sure the plaque was telling the truth that the pumpkins were lying? “Hideyoshi… Ieyasu… Mitsuhide…. Nobunaga…” She tilted her head back and forth, working her way towards an answer.
Artemisia played with her long blonde hair and looked at the pumpkins, “Tell it to me once more…” She said and they immediately obliged, starting their riddle back over from start and each taking their turn to spout a confusing sentence at her. “Sorry, but once more?” She felt close to an answer… The pumpkins seemed content to continue to repeat their riddle for her as many times as she needed. “That’s good, thank you…” She stood up off the ground and brushed her butt off. “I think I've got it…” She walked over to the Ripper Jack, who simply stared at her. “Is the answer…” She hoped she was right with her guess.
Without a word, the Ripper Jack moved aside, revealing a door that had been behind it this entire time. Taking this as her hint that she had guessed correctly, Artemisia reached out and pushed open the door. It opened easily, leading her into the third hall and fourth area of this adventure.
