Artemisia couldn't help but feel proud of herself. She had completed the lobby and now three subsequent areas. In front of her lay the fourth, which she was confident she would conquer quickly. Certainly there couldn't be much more left to this riddle laden mansion. She had given up the idea of running to town in time for dinner and was now setting her sights on being home before day break. It was certainly possible. Although the last riddle had sucked up a great deal of her time, what with bouncing from room to room to read the clues, she would simply make up for it here.
The blonde Adventurer looked directly in front of her and noticed a strange object at the end of the hall. Her fox ears twitched as she examined it from a distance. It appeared to be some sort of scale…? There was writing above it, which seemed to be the pattern. She moved closer and confirmed it was indeed a scale. The writing above it read simply: ‘24 Gold Ingots have been scattered throughout this hall. 23 of these weigh the same - one weighs just slightly heavier, beyond sensory recognition. Using the scale in the hall only up to 3 times, find the one gold ingot that is heavier than the rest. If the scale is weighed more than 3 times, or if the wrong ingot is selected, the puzzle will reset and the weight of all ingots will change.’
“Okay… well, I guess the only way to start is to gather up all 24 of these gold ingots then…” She was not exactly excited about this idea but it was the only way to advance. Artemisia immediately began scanning the hall. The Mini Jack around her danced, floating here and there around the room. After a few seconds, she noticed an ingot, and then another, and another… As quickly as possible, Artemisia made her way around the room gathering them up. Within a few moments, her hands were so full she had to return to the scale and drop off what she had collected on the ground in front of the scale. It took two or three of these trips before she successfully located all of the gold ingots. “Twenty-two, twenty-three, and… twenty-four!” She recounted her pile to assure she truly had them all. “Now… let’s try this…”
Artemisia picked up a handful of the gold ingots and placed them on the scale. She then did the same for the other side. She watched carefully while the bar slowly went back and forth, balancing out the weight. Hopefully she could get this solved in the allowable three attempts. She didn't want to be stuck here weighing gold for hours.
