[attr="class","ws"] [attr="class","h"]RUETHEDAY [attr="class","fc"] [attr="class","bi"]REAL NAME: Haru Katashi [attr="class","bi2"]REAL GENDER: Male [attr="class","bi2"]GENDER: Male [attr="class","bi2"]AGE: Seventeen [attr="class","bi2"]SEXUALITY: Pansexual [attr="class","bi2"]FACE-CLAIM: shun kazami, BAKUGAN [attr="class","bi2"]PLAYED BY: Kuroya [attr="class","h2"]Appearance [attr="class","b"]Since Haru doesn't believe in lying about himself, in spite of the obvious self-hatred, he actually is more or less accurate with his in-game appearance corresponding to his out-of-game appearance. Rue's body type certainly catches the eye of most dominant personalities. He's slender, like a rapier, and his body doesn't bulge with muscles. However, he's hardly such an easy target, or the type to fall into a submissive position so easily, especially when one considers that underneath his shirt, his muscles are actually as strong as wire, not particularly large in size but firm enough to be able to support his own weight should he need to. If life had handed him a different hand, he could have been quite the adept thief or a skilled rock-climber. Despite being Japanese, he's extremely pale, in part because he's not the type to go outside but mostly because of the grandfather on his mother's side having been an American. Between the combination of luck, genetics, and expensive treatments, it's rare for him to experience the curse of acne, leaving him with beautifully clear skin. Standing at five foot eleven inches, he weighs in at one hundred and eighty-nine pounds, mostly in muscle mass. Those who know him state that among his most noticeable features is his bright amber eyes, their coloring light enough to almost be considered a fiery orange in the right light, though they're also the color of a light wood, like cherry or oak, in darker surroundings. His inky black hair is long, the back of it falling down to around his shoulder blades, while the selections around his face come down to his chin in the equivalent of bangs, though he has one particularly stubborn set of strands that will stand up higher regardless of what he does to try to flatten it, so he's just given up on it, content to let it fly above his head and give his appearance a little more personality. Rue doesn't have any piercings or tattoos, not really the type of person who would take pleasure in such a thing. His body hair is actually rather tame, even if the hair on his head is rather long, and he shaves his chest every now and then to make sure that it stays clear so he can cut. That being said, as a cutter, he has his fair share of scars, more than a few bright white lines etched onto the pale skin of his arms and his hands, but it's far more common to find those decorating his chest and his thighs. However, because he's always adding onto that collection as he continues cutting, the exact number of lines that scrawl across the expanse of his thigh and down his chest towards his stomach is uncertain and thus it becomes pointless to mention a specific number since it will rather quickly become inaccurate even if he will sometimes draw along the pre-existing lines. In total, there are at least twenty or thirty scars, maybe more depending on the type of stress he's been under in the past few months. The sigil on his tongue in-game is black, like a brand, and when examined closely, it becomes apparent that it is in the vague outline of a bird in flight. (For reference, it appears similar to this) [attr="class","h3"]Personality [attr="class","b"]>> POSITIVE: • FAIR - Despite his harshness and a slight problem with authority that he feels abuses it, Rue is actually a stickler for rules, and when he feels that someone is assigning duties unfairly, he will refuse to go along with it, instead reassigning the work so that it is distributed evenly, and if someone refuses to do their fair share of work, he will make a point to give them an ultimatum, and if they refuse to do anything, he will either straighten them out himself or he will turn them in to someone in a position of authority to remedy the injustice. >> NEGATIVE: • SELF-DESTRUCTIVE - If there is ever one trait that manages to sum up Rue's existence in a nutshell, it would have to be this one; he cuts himself along his thighs and his chest when he's stressed or when he's attempting to cope with something, he will choose to forego food if he's not hungry, he makes it extremely difficult for someone to be friends with him, and if someone dissects the matter, he really is little more than a kid who's hurting and simply wants to make everyone else hurt as well so that he'll feel better. >> LIKES: Gaming;; As someone who has the money and the intelligence to spend his time doing whatever he wishes in his free time, Rue takes a certain fondness to fantasy Massive Multi-player Online Role-Playing Games, especially of the Dungeons and Dragons variety, and with his usual screen name being RuetheDay, perhaps it's unsurprising that he's amassed quite the selection of games, along with rather strong character accounts on Runescape, Skyrim, Monster Hunter, and Log HOrizon, among other titles with the option for online play. >> DISLIKES: Physical Contact;; Rue can't exactly put his finger on when he decided he was so vehemently against having other people touch him, but it's a thing that he strongly dislikes, and he prides himself on the fact that he hasn't been hugged since he was twelve, and as far as kissing goes, he's never had one, another thing that he takes a certain amount of pleasure in, valuing his personal space and not wanting anyone inside it who he doesn't trust. >> SEXUALITY: Rue isn't actually attracted to a specific sex. While he will admit that he prefers males to females, if only because males tend to provide a little more distance and space, and to be honest, it's not a body or any specific physical thing that attracts him to someone. He would find his soulmate in someone else because of their personality, and as such, the idea of sex actually makes him shudder. Really, he just wants someone who will respect his space and his feelings and emotions, and should he find that person, it's just as likely that he will submit himself to them as he is to fight to dominate their entire being; it all just depends on his mood. >> HABITS: - Cutting himself;; Sure, it's not a particularly healthy thing, but Rue can't help it; it's a coping mechanism to handle stress and disappointment, and as such, whenever something goes wrong, he'll often pull out a razor and add to the collection along his thighs and on his chest. >> FEAR: - Death;; Perhaps the only reason that Rue hasn't actually tried to kill himself despite the fact that he has been cutting for years and that it's an option now with Log Horizon, he has a terrible fear not specifically of death but more of what comes after. Will he fade away into nothingness? Will he burn in hell for taking his own life? He doesn't know, and because he secretly fears the answer, he simply refuses to find out. [attr="class","h3"]History [attr="class","b"]The Katashi family has always had a rich history. They were originally peasant farmers underneath a shogun back in feudal Japan, no prospects available to them, or at least, not until the island was forcibly opened with the arrival of an American ship demanding that their ports be opened to trade. As the Industrial Revolution took over Japan and the former system fell apart, the Katashis seized their chance and ran to the growing cities, becoming educated in the new technology and making a living for themselves. They had a better life, and the family slowly began to improve their circumstances, climbing the social ladder through the generations until they reached an event so cataclysmic that it threw a wrench in their clockwork. World War II decimated Japan between the Allied bombing and the loss of so many brave young men, and the Katashis were no different. Their savings disappeared and they lost the two eldest and the youngest sons to the war, one killed in the line of duty, one taken as a prisoner of war who died due to the poor conditions in the camp, and one who was a kamikaze pilot. With only one son and two daughter left, the grieving family, like many others, relocated from their destroyed homes. They eventually made their way to a small town in Japan, where they ended up settling down and attempting to continue with their lives. They were poorer than they had been in generations, but they were hard workers, and as the Americans began to rebuild the country after the war, that came in handy. And then the youngest son, Daichi, had an idea. He decided that rather than waiting for fortune to shine on him, he was going to rise above it and ride the wave of prosperity that was coming. He entered the computer age and made a name for himself through software, eventually creating his own company, and he married a beautiful young woman who was the daughter of an entertainment company, which only boosted his profits and catapulted his way into the upper class, and he soon bought an elegant mansion estate on the outskirts of the city, where he settled down with his pregnant wife. Hibiki, the eldest child, was born first, and the family rejoiced. However, their delight did not last long since within three years of his birth, a secretary that worked for Daichi became pregnant and gave birth to a young boy named Nicholas. What no one realized even as Ryou came along another two years later was that Nicholas would be an important figure in their family. It was only around the time of Haru's conception that Yuuki realized the truth. She caught her husband having sex with his secretary, and she was furious. She forced him to swear he would never see the woman again, and when she gave birth to a young boy named Alexander within a few months - just in time for her to bear Haru six months later - she was absolutely speechless with her anger. She forbid him to have anything to do with either the secretary or the two children, and to ensure that he could have no contact with them, she demanded that they relocate to England, where she had family and could ensure there was no more infidelity, and that he focus more on expanding the business overseas. Seeing no other choice if he wanted to keep his wife and his honor, Daichi agreed, but what he didn't realize is the effect that this would have on young Haru. Haru grew up raised by nannies and his older siblings, rarely seeing his parents, the only sign he received of their existence being the occasional letter and the arrival of his younger sister Miyako. For the longest time, he thought they were thinking about him and collecting treasures for him, but when he was six, they came home for two weeks and barely acknowledged him. Confused and hurt, he ran to Hibiki crying, and Hibiki tried to comfort him as best he could, saying it wasn't his fault. In an effort to try to make him feel better, the elder brought him to the company with him, where he would do his homework under the supervision of their father's old secretary; the woman had been too good at her job to justify firing her, but Yuuki kept a close eye on her relationship with Daichi. Through this, he met Nicholas and Alexander, and even if he and Nicholas butted heads quickly with their attitudes, Alexander and Haru hit it off surprisingly well. Alexander and Haru kept in contact, and when Yuuki stumbled across the two of them sleeping with their heads pillowed up on an unprotesting Nicholas' lap, she found it in herself to insist that Daichi at least provide for the two boys. She couldn't, however, get rid of the resentment she felt for their mother, and as a result, she and Daichi continued to be absentee parents. Alexander did the best that he could to keep Haru's head above water, the younger always doubting himself and wondering if his parents hated him because he wasn't good enough. He convinced the ten year old to start a small blog known as RuetheDay, where they would talk back and forth, and while they didn't gain many followers since most of what they talked about was gaming related since the elder had gotten the other into Log Horizon and other massive multiplayer online games, one of the bullies at the private school Haru attended decided to strike against them. He revealed that the boy's parents hated him because of Alexander, saying that when Alexander was born, their mother realized that her husband was a cheater, and that because he was born only months afterwards, he was a constant reminder of what a slut her husband was. Hurt and angry, Haru broke off the friendship with Alexander, and that was the first time he started cutting. He was just so angry that he wanted to make something hurt, and when he accidentally nicked his arm with broken glass from a vase he'd thrown, the distraction of the pain was such a relief that he couldn't stop. He bandaged himself up afterwards, but the feeling of control reassured him more than anything else ever had. He didn't trust the world, not after the betrayal of his best friend. RuetheDay as a blog fell off the face of the earth, but it was then that the boy found a hope. He renamed himself Rue, after the English word meaning "to regret", and he began to game more. People could only hurt you if you let them close, and it was easier to simply disconnect. The feeling of a razor along his skin calmed him down when he needed it most, and to keep Hibiki or Ryou from making a comment about it, he began to only do it on his thighs and chest, where they couldn't see. He became an avid gamer, enjoying the feeling of accomplishment, and not even the chance he could run into Alexander could deter him from what he had claimed as his own turf. His parents enrolled him in a private school to try to further his education, wanting only the best for him, but he had changed. He hated them for neglecting him, all the uncertainty having fermented and warping his feelings, and his friends began to distance themselves from him, not liking his new harsh attitude. This didn't deter him, however, and in fact, he found it preferable. There were no questions whether or not he was all right, he didn't have to pretend that he liked it when they hugged him, and no one could notice the collection of scars on his body slowly growing. When he was fifteen, however, he finally made his first friend in years. Even if it wasn't anything more than a gaming friend on Log Horizon, the other seemed to be the only one able to weather Haru's moods, and their characters grew with each other. It was gradual, by all means, but soon he found himself waiting for his friend to catch up so their characters would stay around the same level so that they could dungeon together. Their chats began to evolve from something that was simply game-related to a slightly more personal dialogue. He found that his new friend isn't as much of a burden to put up with as he first thought... but he has been extremely resistant to voice chatting or exchanging information that could possibly connect them to each other. And then, when they were excited about the new server, the Catastrophe happened. Haru still hasn't found his friend, in part because he's afraid to. What if the other doesn't like him? He's not quite sure he could take the disappointment. So he's turned his attention towards surviving. He's always longed for a way to escape his shackles, and if anything could provide that way, this was it. [attr="class","h3"]Extra [attr="class","b"]Rue's siblings are actually quite numerous. There's his oldest brother, Hibiki (age 24); the next eldest, Ryou (age 19); and his little sister, Miyako (age 15). His parents are Daichi and Yuuki Katashi - however, Daichi has not been exactly faithful to his wife, and has sired two children out of wedlock with his secretary. These half-siblings are Nicholas Kain (age 21) and Alexander Kain (age 17). |
