[attr="class","capsol"] St. Pancras Station -- or Pancreas, as Capsule liked to refer to it. Not so long ago, she had been here in search of a tailor who could make her a simple plushie. A low leveled tailor worked well enough, despite many people preferring the needlecraft of someone much higher and better experienced. A plushie was a plushie to Capsule, and she was a fan of helping out lower leveled crafters when she could. Despite being the highest level Pharmacist with her thumb in many a pie research, she held a great disdain for monopolies, for obvious reasons.
Competition was good, in that it gave customers a variety to choose from, and kept the higher tiered crafters from setting outrageous prices or demands they knew some would be desperate to follow. There was also the issue that befell banking a few months ago, in which the economy was so far gone in the crapper that money held little meaning. People freely gave away gold, and others spent it frivolously on things they otherwise would not have bought, all the while making everyone complacent.
Now that there was no way to gain interest and rake in the mad cash, gold was once more a treasured commodity. And how did most people make that gold? Either through questing or trade, which boiled down to crafting. With monopolies running rampant, it was easy to see why the disadvantaged and lesser known crafters would be in need of assistance. Capsule herself tried to redirect tier one crafting requests to other Pharmacists, if they were available to do so. Otherwise, why bother? She was not greedy, and while she needed her funds to acquire better quality gear, what she would receive from lower leveled Adventures would be peanuts, at best. It was better to drain the wallets of the wealthy than the poor.
Her eyes shifted from crafter to crafter as she strode through the station. She was supposed to be mentoring someone today, though considering how things sort of fizzled out with her last (and first) student, she was not exactly hopeful… nor was she particularly interested in looming over their shoulder while they tried to brew a potion. That was honestly something they could figure out on their own. Capsule was far more interested in discussing the gathering of herbs (and the avoidance of unintentionally poisoning your clients), research considered appropriate for Pharmacists, how to reach out to potential customers, and whatever else might come up.
Capsule sat down on an unoccupied bench. It was rather unnerving to be out in public like this, when she would rather be somewhere quieter. Had her student not been a complete stranger, she would have invited them out to her mountain home for mentoring. Having a stranger in her living space was far too risky, however. She could not afford to have someone poking around her research and claiming the ideas as their own or selling them to a competitor. A little nervous and restless, the woman occupied her hands with an autographed golf ball while she waited. She was no expert on American sports (or sports in general, really), but the NBA athlete played basketball, right? Chosen Path
HP 100% | MP 100% Slowly stirring from his introspection, Valandil looked up to where slices of sunlight probed through a substantial crack in the wall. By the angle, he judged it around the time appointed to meet his prospective mentor. He stood up and headed out the derelict building within the borders of St. Pancras Station.
A few days before, deciding that learning the finer arts of his subclass is vital, he chose to seek out the best. This was easier said than done “Finding the best”. Deeming that the highest level Pharmacist would also constitute the best, Valandil quested in search of information. Asking around the general crafter populous raised the same name over and over. No one could quite tell him any details, except for stories of unique potions and pharmaceutical products introduced to the game mechanics after the said person started crafting. That was a good enough start and a bit of further investigation...and coin gave him a contact. It took another day to track down the contact who would eventually arrange for a meeting. This was more difficult than he expected, but if nothing else, Valan was determined. He set himself upon this path and he was resolute to follow it through. The goal was simple and it was to learn as much as he can from his mentor; to elevate himself to the point where he can bury himself in the research and carve...or rather craft a position in this world of Elder Tale. This was not borne from ambition; no Valan was not what you would call an ambitious man. He was more a survivor. Drawing the most out of his subclass would enable him to fully support his main class and would, hopefully, enable him to solo the challenges presented to him by this new life until he reaches a comfortable level. Further, being a skillful Pharmacist would enable him to aid any party member that he might find himself to be allied with. As Valan walked to the designated meeting spot he reminisced over his motives once again and he found them to be rational and sound. He pushed them from his active thoughts and moved into a mental musing of a possible course of specialization. Healing would be the most beneficial and definitely the most time he would spend in enhancing this...but further down the road; A long way ahead, the allure of stacking his debuffs skills - an already primary part of his Swashbuckler class – stood out rather attractively. Poisons and Toxins and venoms... That is worth considering.
Valan neared the meeting spot, weaving his way through other crafters and adventurers. He stopped for a moment to survey the area and spotted a woman sitting on a bench. He knew instinctively this to be his possible mentor. How he knew he could not explain. Somehow he expected the mentor to look more like a Pharmacist, but this idea gave him pause. What is a Pharmacist supposed to look like? Deeming the though inconsequential he suppressed it.
The woman sitting on the bench had white hair and crimson eyes even distinguishable from the number of paces he was from her. Most notable feature was the scar on her cheek though. She was definitely interesting to say the least. Deciding that wasting time and being late would not be the best first impression he hastened his stepped towards her. Greeting as he neared “Good day and well met. I am Valandil and I have been looking for you” He flashed a smile as he completed his sentence.

[attr="class","capsol"] Capsule was still rolling the golf ball around in her hands when a shadow was casted over her. Many had come and gone over the course of time she was sitting here, but none had lingered for so long. Even in a video game, people did not know how to relax and take things slow. This was especially true for the crafters of St. Pancras Station, always bustling to and fro during the day. She lifted her head, fully prepared to ask this person what they wanted and if they could move away; she did not want them scaring off or blocking her pupil.
"Oh," she blinked for a moment in surprise as the Swashbuckler began to introduce himself. Capsule self-consciously sat up straighter and tucked the golf ball out of sight. 'Professionalism, Capsule.' He seemed so formal, too. …Valandil? Capsule did a double take, scrutinizing the man. Why did that name sound familiar?
She neatly brought herself up to her feet, the back of her mind softly buzzing as she put one and one together. "Hello, Valandil. I'm Capsule." Her head bobbed ever so lightly, as if highlighting a name above her head. Names, main class and such were viewable by other players, so there was not much point in keeping up with these formalities, other than tradition and a sense of normality. She used to be polite and try not to read someone's info while getting to know them, but months of isolation had made her rusty and more prone to settling into her indifferent nature. Even now, she was not reaching out to engage in the time old tradition of the dreaded handshake.
With her chin, pointed at the Swash. "Your name. Forgive me if I am wrong, but are you a Tolkien fan?" Capsule was familiar with The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, the former of which she found to be unbearably dry. Valandil was some dead king, and related to Aragorn, if her memory was correct. As usual, her interest was focused more on that of the non-human beings. She was among the campers that were of the opinion that Arwen would be better off without the Ranger. The concept of love had also been lost on her at that age.
"Please, have a seat." She gestured to the bench behind her. It was polite to remain standing until the guest sat down, right? Or did that rule only apply in your own home, and not in a public area? A better question to ask herself was if she would be able to adequately mentor someone, after being a recluse for so long? "Feel free to ask me anything… about our crafting class, anyway." However dulled her social skills may be, she knew better than to set herself up for instances that could be misconstrued as something else. Course of Action
HP 100% | MP 100% Valandil took note of the small change in demeanor that was displayed. He mentally chided himself, thinking that he startled her by his sudden appearance without announcing himself before he approached. “Dangit, First impressions!” the thought mulled over and over. Can’t do anything but apologize and hope she would consider continue the conversation even after what he perceived as act of rudeness on his part. He had no framework to judge her personality so far and he really wanted to be taken on as a student. All he could do is play it by ear and hope for the best.
The apology he formed stuck in his throat before he could voice it. She introduced herself as Capsule and proceeded to probe if he was a Tolkien fan - judging by his username. “Common ground” he mused before replying. “The name is indeed from Tolkien origin and I would indeed consider myself a fan. Valandil was the third king of Andor and was the only one of Isildur's sons to survive the Disaster of the Gladden Fields...Forgive my rambling” he paused, realizing that he was issuing useless lore that contributed nothing to the situation. “Mostly the name just stuck for MMOs since I used it in my first one” he flashed a smile and hoped that his perception of earlier offence was forgotten.
Valandil was invited to sit and taking that as a good sign he formally took a seat. Paying attention not to seat himself too close and to keep his posture turned slightly to Capsule. “I want to know everything” he blurted out when she invited him to ask a question. Realizing how stupid that must sound and for the first time comprehending how nervous he was from the uncharacteristic, less than calculated, outburst, he quickly added. “I mean, I would like to learn as much as you can teach me. I understand the basics of crafting...but the research and finer details is still somewhat vague to me. For instance, how to craft anything that was not in the original game mechanics. With all that said I am still first level which limits what we have to work with.” He paused another moment and finally said slightly dropping the formal speech “What I’m saying is I really want to expand my craft and I’m willing to take whatever course of action is needed. Tell me what to do and I’ll do it” Not breaking eye contact with Capsule, hoping he did not overplay his hand, he waited for her reply.

[attr="class","capsol"] Once Valandil was seated, Capsule felt safe to reclaim her previous spot. She and the man both seemed to be of the opinion that an appropriate amount of space needed to be left between the two of them. Whereas Valandil may have wanted to remain at a respectable distance, Capsule was more worried about her personal space being invaded. It always bothered her when people got too close or all touchy feely. She neatly folded her hands in her lap, and shifted slightly in her seat to face Val in a similar manner --
“I want to know everything.”
That was not quite the response she was expecting. For one, it was way too broad. Where would she even start? And how? The gears started up and began spinning, but slowed down again when Valandil decided to approach from another angle. And thank goodness for that. It saved her the trouble of freezing up and blanking out entirely. Capsule possessed extensive knowledge of her crafting class, yes. The skill and training of a teacher was something she was without, however. This included a lack of proper planning in lessons. She knew how to figure out something on her own, but showing someone else how to do something was beyond her.
She inwardly sighed when he mentioned already knowing the basics of crafting. That was very good. It meant she could jump right into the meat of the stuff, where it got interesting. Otherwise, having to go through the baby steps would put a real damper on things. "Hm..." She temporarily broke eye contact to close her eyes, silently musing over her thoughts before speaking. Conciseness was important.
"All right." Her eyes opened into thin slits. Where to start? "First of all, research." Some people liked to keep the best for last, a preference that struck Capsule as backwards. "Well, research is the process of discovering new recipes. The best -- and really, the only way to go about doing that, is to do everything by hand." From her inventory, the woman retrieved two items: a tube of burn cream, and a thick bottle of corrosive poison. She carefully set down the bottle of volatile liquid, and held out the burn cream for the man's inspection.
"These are two of my researched products. The tube is merely burn cream, but the bottle contains a toxic liquid. But I will explain that one later." It would be easier that way. "The burn cream was simply made from turmeric. The process involved cutting up, grinding, and them moisturizing the resulting powder." She paused for a moment to let that sink in, and then continued. "I got the recipe from… either my grandmother or an elderly neighbor, back when I was a child. They had some books on herbal remedies, which is what inspired some of my earlier research."
Honestly, the burn cream was mostly researched as a joke. In those instances where someone stated that a disgraced person needed some "burn cream," Capsule could easily supply a tube if she were nearby. It also made for good practice for her crafting class. "That is essentially how this world works. Yes, it is a video game, but it also functions like real world now. As Pharmacists, studying herbs is a good start. It gives you an idea of what to research." With her finger, she tapped the bottle sitting between them. "Once you figure that out and move on, you can begin tinkering with more fantastical concoctions. From pots that change your bodily structure and appearance, to revival items." The last one was something she really needed to get started on. The lack of mid and high tier healers was worrisome.
"Did any of that make sense?" She was wary of continuing without gauging his understanding first. Maybe she would even get a few pointers on instructing. Unforeseen Possibilities
HP 100% | MP 100% Valandil waited eagerly, but humbly as the woman took a seat. Heart pounding he awaited her response while trying to display respectful dignity. Capsule seemed content to make him wait a while longer as she closed her eyes in what appeared to be contemplation. Fortunately this did not last long as she addressed him once more. Her response was directed to his request on the secrets of research. "Yes! This is it!" Valan thought. She pulled two objects from her inventory and then continued.
The toxic liquid that she produced caught Valan’s attention in particular. That was exactly what his long term plan rested on – the ability to augment his class debuff skills. In a sense to become a debuff master, however foolish and arrogant that might sound. Quickly he pushed the though aside lest he lose track of the rest of the explanation. He noted what Capsule said. Firstly that the burn cream was made from turmeric and further the process in which the item was produced “Cutting, grinding and moisturizing the powder.” Fascinated by the development process and the explanation at large he grinned. The fact that real world knowledge of herbalism and pharmacology carried over to this new world gave Valan renewed hope and vigour – bolstering the already stirring enthusiasm he harboured for this specific subject. His job when he was still part of the monotonous grind of society allowed him to come in contact with the pharmaceutical sciences on a regular basis. Although his contribution to this particular field was mathematical in nature, some knowledge on the subject did seep in.
Valandil listened keenly until Capsule finished - taking great heed of her instruction to learn herbs as a starting point. “Excellent” he breathed the thought with a smile of pure determination still flickering on his countenance before he replied more audible “Everything made perfect sense” He took a moment to formulate his next sentence before proceeding “If you decide to formally mentor me on herbs and to a further extent on the Craft I would appreciate it and owe you great debt. The possibilities you mentioned are absolutely amazing. I did not realize this can be extending so far...Body altering and resurrection items...truly amazing.”

[attr="class","capsol"] Based on the man's reaction, Capsule could tell that he had taken favorably to her ramblings. Her lack of proper socialization often left her blunt and tactless, and a little too odd for her own good. Forcing a mage to play the role of a dps by sending several higher level monsters after them was one; riding into a wedding ceremony on the back of a Golem Sentinel was another. This was probably one of her better encounters. "That is good. I am glad."
She carefully picked up the bottle of Corrosive Potion, and relocated it to her lap. There was something dangerous about holding it out in public like this. She might as well have been carrying a loaded gun… not that she intended to do anything untoward with it. The Royal Guard would descend on her within seconds if the potion struck someone. "I could do that for you. I am no Gardener, but I know more than enough to get by." Skimming through those old herbal remedy books as a child had turned out to be beneficial, but there was a lot she needed help with during her early Pharmacist career.
Now, how did she put this into words? She was quicker when it came to responding to combat, not thinking up replies on the fly. All she could think of was to stall. "Mmhm. Normally this kind of stuff would not be possible in real life, but fantasy worlds work on different logic..." An invisible light bulb lit up above her head. Sometimes, rambling could be a good thing.
The contents of the bottle in her lap shifted around as she sought for something in her inventory. The poison was a bad example for what she had in mind. The only true magical component in it was the mana that served as fuel. Capsule neatly laid out three things on the bench: an Anima Berry, a Mana Flower and a Mutavi Sprout. "You will find that many medicinal herbs are those you have in your kitchen pantry. With others, including those with magical properties, you will have to explore to find and test."
She poked the Anima Berry and Flower with a finger. "These two here, are vital for Appearance Change potions. Anima represents life, whereas mana is the magical catalyst needed to force a change." Next, she placed a finger on the Mutavi Sprout. "And this is capable of absorbing an elemental affinity." She had not actually experimented with the Mutavi in general yet, but it was on her to do list. "In short, common herbs are easier to start with. The magically charged ones require some creativity to use to their greatest potential."
The Enchanter paused, a hand coming up to rub at her chin. "Might be best explained working out in a field." Was giving out homework a feasible idea, or was it best to follow along and make sure he did not get swallowed up by a Nepent Snatcher? "Either way, I would be more than happy to give you a crash course on both subjects." Field Work Ventures
HP 100% | MP 100% Valandil nodded as he listened to Capsule stating that many medicinal herbs can be found in the average kitchen pantry. He heard this before and remember thinking how little they knew as so called technological advanced humans. Before medical science progressed to its current state, herbs were the medicinal norm. How comfortable people have become by just going to a store and buying what they need.
He shifted his gaze to the new objects Capsule pulled from her inventory as her explanation continued. The characteristics of the objects were fascinating and the intricate way that these objects combined to produce a desired effect was completely reminiscent of the real world production of pharmaceutical products. This realization was further support for Capsule’s statement that the procedure reflects the real world just as the use of herbs do, and Valandil found himself nodding in understanding.
The suggestion of field work perked Valandil’s interest and he stood up before he could stop himself – chiding himself at the involuntary show of eagerness. “I would appreciate the crash course and some practical demonstration. I have always mastered skills faster by figuring it out that way” Valandil paused a moment in thought before he continued on a slightly different topic “If I may venture, does that mean that poisons or physical debuff items would require some carry component or does mana serve as such?”

[attr="class","solcap"] Valandil seemed eager to learn, a trait that Capsule admired. Having hung around this area as an up and comer herself, she had seen a few mentees that were bored by the life of a crafter, whether it be alchemists, tailors, or blacksmiths. Many of them were unsuited for the hard work their crafting classes and masters pressed them to perform. Others just failed to see the appeal in the craft work, and would gladly pay for someone else to do it, if the opportunity presented itself. It was refreshing to see the diligent crafters going about their work, and even better to see the low leveled ones trying to catch up to their superiors.
Capsule joined the man in standing, desiring a change in scenery. Hands on experience was important in this field. "Poison is as straightforward as you can get. It works as you would think -- as long as you have the necessary components. Nightshade is a good start." As she spoke, she collected the materials left on the bench, and stored them in her inventory. Still holding the Corrosive potion, she held it up near her head. "This is both a poison and a debuff, but since it also burns on contact, it does need a catalyst. So there is some mana that reacts when the potion is active." She reminded herself to make Greek Fire at some point.
"Come on. We can walk and talk at the same time," she said, tucking the potion under one arm. A few nervous eyes followed her as she began to stride off. The few other Pharmacists in the area were well aware of what that potion was capable of, and it was a high leveled one, at that. One wrong step, and some poor fool could get a face full of poisonous and mildly acidic liquid. "The Windsor Greatwood is an excellent place to start, if you are looking for herbs. The Savill Flower Garden in particular should have most of what you need at this level. Just uh… be careful." She pointed to the small flower bud nestled in her hair. It was a living accessory, and a daily reminder of the field boss she had defeated with others. "It may not look like much, but this was dropped from a field boss in that area." As if in response, the Mayahuel Flower Bud dug its tendrils into her scalp.
She gave Valandil an uneasy smile. "This little bud can make a smaller version of the field boss, and spread poison, too. But trust me when I say that you want to be careful if you are in the flower fields around noon. The real deal is over twenty feet tall." Capsule found out about the field boss the hard way -- while in the midst of gathering herbs. "There are a few other dangerous plants to look out for, but those are nocturnal." Unlike the Maledict Mayahuel, the Nepent Snatchers were actually mobile. The life of a Pharmacist could be very dangerous. Field Work Forward
HP 100% | MP 100% Valandil turned to fall into step next to Capsule while mulling over her clarification on poisons. The mention of nightshade sparked some residual knowledge and as he could recall the plant had a rather colorful history as a poison in the real world. It was a nasty little piece of flora indeed. Capsule’s explanation continued and this forced his attention back to the topic at hand. Intently eyeing the bottle of corrosive potion that she so casually handled and then straying his gaze to their surroundings, he could not help but miss the furtive glances some of the other crafters gave them. Neither could he omit the wide berth the same pedestrians took around them. “Well that stuff seems to be dangerous” he mused while keeping the natural urge to take a step away in check. The urge quickly passed as he mentally shrugged it off.
“A catalyst.” Valandil repeated to make a mental note of it. He’ll be sure to look into the imbuing of catalysts in future studies. He reminded himself that research was still far off and he should get the basics down first and nodded in acknowledgement.
They started walking and again the casual, almost indifferent way his mentor handled the dangerous substance held his attention. A grin threatened to break his composure and he quickly stifled it, pretending to be deep in thought as he raised his finger to his mouth. For no apparent reason he found the other pharmacists, or whom he assumed to be pharmacists, reactions very amusing. Naturally in his right mind, he should keep clear of this person just by her absent-minded lack of precaution to dangerous substances. He trusted her however by the mere fact that she was obviously more than component and a wellspring of knowledge in her craft subclass. The accessory she wore and the origin just emphasized that fact.
The stifled grin of earlier flared into existence unimpeded this time. “The Savill Flower Garden sounds like a wonderful place” he ventured in wry humour and rising excitement. “Are we going there now?” Valandil continued. Unconscious of the action, he materialized his kunai and then flicked them out of sight to his inventory again. The anticipation of adventuring fuelling his habit of unsheathing and sheathing his weapons, carried over from the days of tapping a button behind a computer screen. “Maybe we’ll find that boss” he drolled as he glanced at Capsule, still grinning. His more stoic demeanour giving way as eagerness slipped in.

[attr="class","solcap"] "The flower garden is actually one of my favorite places now." It was a nightmare when she was low leveled, but then so was everything to a support. She slipped Valandil a small grin of her own. "We could, actually. It is the best place to go herb hunting." The Windsor Greatwood required a bit of know how to navigate, but you could easily find common herbs out in the flower garden. A lot of the low leveled herbs needed for crafting potions were out there. Capsule liked to speculate that either Landers or Adventurers had planted some of these patches. They were too conveniently placed, much like a normal game, to be naturally grown.
"Oh, I am sure we will see it. People are always having a go at field bosses, even when they should not be." As a frequent visitor of the garden, she had seen more than her fair share of Adventurers get slaughtered by the monstrous plant. In her ear, the Mayahuel Flower Bud began to hiss and spit. Capsule kind of liked her better when she was chatty. It was somewhat taxing on her sanity in the beginning, but at least she could exchange conversation with the bud. Now she just grumbled, and her only full sentence as of late involved death threats at Capsule’s significant other. "I suppose I could guide you in making a potion or two, as well." Might as well see how he fared with the fundamentals, as well.
A deer thundered past as they ventured further and further out into the Greatwood. The mass of trees were slowly giving way to clumps of flowers. Normally, your typical Adventurer would be ambushed by a random monster or two. Capsule and Valandil had nothing to fear, thanks to the high level of the Enchanter. The creatures in this area were much too weak to defy her, and many of the non-predatory monsters respected her. The predators would not hesitate to leap on her if the opportunity presented itself. Or they would just target Valandil… he was easier prey.
Capsule went still as the landscape drastically changed from thick forest, to an explosion of blooming flora. Despite the slowly changing seasons, the garden would remain the same, almost as if preserved through time. They could expect some light snowfall in the winter, but nothing that would turn this field of flowers into a barren wasteland. She inclined her head towards Val, a silent gesture that would imply what he should already know. They were here.
She pointed into the deepest part of the flower field, where hints of decay could be spotted. "The Mayahuel spawns there, in a nest of withered plants." It was the poison the plant emanated, just from being there. Her little flower bud did something similar to the air, though the stagnation could be easily remedied. "She will pop up soon enough, and then you can see for yourself how hellish that fight can be." She nodded over at a small group of Adventurers, who were loitering a good distance away from the spawn location. "Doing work out on the fields might seem dangerous, too, but you will not always have the luxury of a proper crafting facility. You need to be able to perform on the fly."
