Sayha had woken up early that morning which was of no surprise; she was usually up early. Normally Sayha would take the initiative and do exercises and run, but she had a different mission in mind. The previous day, Sayha had taken a quest from a Lander merchant to locate his stolen sword. The quest had led to her finding the evil witch of a woman, the Heretic Hecate as well as her pet Azrael. Sayha, by taking the sword back from them, had interrupted her most recent plan for her to become a “goddess,” but Sayha knew that there was more to her plan that just the sword. She had been researching hidden areas in Londinium for her own amusement and possible discovery, but during said research she thought she might have found a clue as to what the Heretic was up to.
The Chislehurst Tunnels, also known as the Caves or Labyrinth. With the stories Sayha had read, she had a good feeling that there was some sort of strong Miasma in the tunnels. Miasma was what Sayha considered the lifeblood of Heretics, though not all heretics she knew were loco insane. Sayha planned on investigating the tunnels, but first she needed to call Hiro.
Hiro had been there with her when she first met the evil twins, as she dubbed them. He hated the Heretic just as much as Sayha did, and she knew that it would be better to investigate the tunnels with him than alone.
Though one thing made her a tad bit concerned. Sayha had changed her appearance the night before so she wasn’t sure what Hiro would think of it. Also the previous night, she vowed to be honest with her feelings… which could potentially make todays expedition awkward.
Sayha shook her head at that thought. For the time being, she needed to find the entrance or at least get close enough to it. The location of the entrance was above ground in southeast Londinium in what used to be called Chislehurst. It was now called something else according to her map of Londinium which she was staring at.
Once Sayha plotted her way, she folded up the map and shoved it into her jacket pocket. She made her way down the streets until she reached the neighborhood at approximately where Sayha had guessed the entrance to be.
Sayha opened up her friend interface and called Hiro, hoping he wasn’t too busy. Once he answered, Sayha explained what was going on and asked if he would meet her where she was. She also warned him he may be surprised when he came to see her. Sayha knew that what she said was vague, but she figured him seeing her new appearance would be easier than explaining it over the telepathics.

[attr="class","capsol"] A strange way to start a day, for sure. Hiro, having needed to spend a night at the guild house, had awoken rather late, due to his normal sleeping schedule basically not existing. He went down to the kitchen, made some food, then hopped into a shower to clean himself up. Not that it really did much, since in the game, one's physical form was well maintained at all times, though it did feel nice to have some hot water flowing around himself. After that, he dressed himself, and started to think about what it was he wanted to do that day. However, not too long after that, he had received a message from Sayha. She had asked him to come meet her where she was at, though she was rather vague about it all. Something about a secret tunnel system or something like that, and that she wanted him to come along. To be honest, he hadn't been fully paying attention, as his mind was running through about six other things at the same time but he got the gist of what it was she wanted him there for. Exploration, sounds like fun! Hiro got off his ass and started to make his way toward the Assassin.
It was a rather dreary day in the city of London, thanks to the fact hat clouds had rolled in somewhere during the night. It wasn't raining, but it definitely wasn't sunshine and rainbows out. The whole city just seemed to feel a bit darker than usual, though that was probably just his imagination. Hiro wasn't that much of a cloudy day kind of person, even if he was about to spend a while in a tunnel system. Before he left the house, though, he made sure to grab a lantern and a blanket, in case something were to happen and he would need to spend the night somewhere. Always be prepared, and all that good stuff. He continued along his way toward the place where Sayha's marker had shown up, having gotten a good deal closer. He wondered what exactly was so special about this underground place, and silently damned himself for not paying any better attention. While he wanted to try and remember what it was Sayha had said more clearly, he found that the morning-time lulls had caused him to forget everything that he hadn't specifically committed to memory. He was sure he was going to get a justified earful from Sayha, and just thinking about it made him dread it.
He was close enough that he would have been able to see the Assassin from there, but he could only see a few other people standing around. What looked to be a purple-haired girl was hanging around, as well as a few guys who were chatting away. A few passersby seemed to go in small groups, but other than that, Hiro couldn't see where Sayha was. He started to wonder where she was, though, thinking that maybe she was hiding from him. Well, he couldn't imagine why she would hide from him, unless this was her plan to get him to come out here, and scare him. However, maybe Hiro had just shown up early, and Sayha had shown him a place for them to meet up, and she was getting close to it already. Or, maybe she had stopped in for something to eat around here. There was a few shops that sold food nearby, so that could possibly be the case. If that was how things were, then he would just wait for her to be all set with what she was doing. So, he decided that he'd go ahead and just relax for a bit. Leaning up against one of the buildings nearby, he crunched himself down to a seat, and leaned his head back. While the day was cloudy, the wind still felt nice against him. Closing his eyes, he would wait for the eventual sounds of Sayha walking up and addressing him, whenever she was all set with what she needed to do.

Sayha had been slightly distracted after calling Hiro. She had pulled out her map of Londinium again and had begun to survey the area to see if she could find any hits right off the bat. When Sayha saw Hiro arrived, he looked around, appearing to be slightly confused. He must not have realized that Sayha changed her appearance. When she had seen him not too long ago for him to make her new weapon for her, she had been her original appearance. At first Sayha thought about playing a trick on Hiro, but she decided against it. Sayha took a deep breath and walked over to Hiro, keeping the map in her hand, “Well, I’m glad you didn’t get lost.” Sayha gave Hiro a smile and tilted her head slightly, “Maybe I should have said I changed my appearance over the Telepathics. I guess my message about having a surprise was too vague.”
Sayha waited a moment for Hiro to absorb what he had told her before continuing to speak. “Anyway, this is the area of where I believe the tunnel to be. The entrance is hidden so we’re going to have to look around, but I don’t think it will be too hard to find… especially if the witch is involved.” Sayha paused, “I didn’t tell you that I saw the Heretic Hecate yesterday, did I? Well, I did. And I foiled another one of her plans, but I am concerned she has bigger plans. I overheard her talk about a Lander Priest, but that’s a different story. For now, I think that checking out these tunnels might help us figure out Hecate’s next move so we can stop her. Are you up for it?”

[attr="class","capsol"] Hiro's eyes had only been closed for a little bit, when he had heard the familiar voice of the Assassin. Opening his eyes, however, revealed a much different looking person than Sayha. Hiro stared in confusion, until the girl had spoken again. The voice matched perfectly, though she looked entirely different. For sure, this was Sayha. While he had known a few people who had changed how they looked, this one came as much more of a surprise, since he knew the Assassin much better than the others whom he had known that had undergone the phase shift. Still, Hiro found himself dumbfounded. He was probably staring at her like an idiot, which he caught himself in the act of having done so, and immediately stood up and cleared his throat. "Uhh, yes, well..." He averted his eyes, looking off in a different direction. "It... Might've helped to know you changed how you looked." He caught himself again quickly, and darted his eyes to her. "N-Not that you look bad, or anything! No, you look great! I mean, wait, uhh..." He was somehow digging himself into a deeper hole, more than likely.
He had to shake his head a little, just to try and regain his consciousness. He noticed a little bit of a blush on his face, since he felt stupid for having said what he did. However, he did mean it. She looked nice. Not that there was anything wrong with how she had looked before. But, if she had changed her style to better represent something of her own, or for the sake of just having a change, then he wouldn't pry. He did have to wonder if she was shorter than she had been before, though. That, however, is not something one would willingly ask a lady. He knew just what would happen if he had asked her if she had changed to a shorter size, and just how much of a bad thing that that could be. Hiro made that mistake before, and it caused a good month and a half of strife, way back in the day. He wouldn't go into details about the circumstance, though, since it was a time he would rather not go into it. It wasn't a very fond memory, but he did learn something powerfully strong from it: Never ask a girl if she got shorter. The implications behind that were far beyond anything a normal guy would be able to understand.
Hiro began to listen, after Sayha had taken a small break from talking to let everything sink in. She began to explain that there was a tunnel that she seemed to know about, though it wasn't easily accessible. Hiro figured as much, since most ancient tunnels were either covered up, destroyed, or open to the public as some kind of a tourist attraction. His attention was especially piqued, when she mentioned something about a witch of some sort. He was about to ask, as Sayha paused, but then she continued. Anger coursed through him immediately, as the name was mentioned. Hecate. The Heretic that had been the reason for the death of a Lander. Hiro was about to scold Sayha for not telling him this sooner. If the Heretic was up to something else, then he needed to be informed. If even one more Lander had been killed by her hand, he would have lost it entirely, and beat the living crap out of her. He would make it his goal to consistently attack the Adventurer until she was no longer recognizable by others in the world. That monster of a person needed to be stopped, no matter what the cost. However, he forced himself to calm down, as Sayha continued.
It was good that her plan had been stopped, but the fact that she had a plan at all was concerning. She mentioned some Lander Priest, but there wasn't much else to go along those lines, so he dropped it in his mind. He did, however, agree with the idea of checking out these tunnels. When she asked, Hiro responded almost instantaneously. "Yeah." He began, his tone still rather serious. "If Hecate and her little pack mule are up to something bad, and you think that these tunnels are where they're consorting through, then we should definitely check it out." Hiro looked around himself, unable to tell exactly where the entrance to these tunnels would be. He turned back to Sayha, still not fully having understood that the Assassin had now looked different. He would get used to it in time, and he figured that these tunnels would be the best way to go about that. "Since we don't know where the entrance is, we should probably look around here. I have a skill that might be able to help us, but if we're going into a tunnel system, for however long, we'd best make sure we're prepared. I've got a light and a blanket, in case we're forced to stay down under for more than a day, which I'd hope isn't the case. However, if you haven't already, let's take a bit of time and get everything else we would need. There's a few shops around here, so let's make sure we're all set to go." Hiro would wait for Sayha's response from here, and would go grab a few more items at a local store, before much else happens.

Hiro seemed more surprised than Sayha had thought he would be… of course if she would have been in the same situation, she probably would have reacted very similarly. What caught her slightly off-guard was when he said that she looked great, and then slightly stuttered afterwards. Sayha felt herself blush slightly, but she had hoped Hiro didn’t notice… even though he was slightly blushing as well. She had a pretty good idea that he was wondering why she had changed appearances, and she planned on telling him once they were in the tunnels. As Sayha had begun to talk about the Heretic, it was obvious that he was instantly furious. Not at Sayha but at the name. Maybe it was actually possible Hiro hated the witch more than she did. He responded immediately that he was up to the exploration. He continued to say that since they didn’t know where the tunnel system was or how long it would take them to explore that they should quickly stock up on supplies.
“Well according to the research I did,” Sayha pulled out her notebook from her inventory, “The tunnels are about 22 miles in length, and there’s a small pond near the end of said tunnels. However it is a labyrinth-type tunnel system. I’d say that the exploration will probably take about a day, possibly two days at the most. Then again, there’s a lot of variables that I don’t know so maybe we should plan for three days… It would be better to overestimate than under.”
Sayha hadn’t initially thought of how long it would take the tunnels, and she was glad Hiro had brought it up. Step by step planning had never been her strong suit. Sayha then made her way to a shop nearby, not sure if Hiro was going to the same shop as she. She bought enough food for herself for the next three days, which wasn’t much since she didn’t eat much, as well as a small lantern and a blanket for herself. Hopefully the journey wouldn’t take horribly long… of course if Hecate was involved, who knew what kind of things were waiting for them.
Once Sayha had everything in her inventory, she went back to the initial place she had been and studied her Londinium map again.
“From my estimates of studying this map and the old map,” Sayha showed the map to Hiro, “The entrance should be somewhere in this area.” She circled a small area of the map with her finger. “This is the center of the circle so it would probably be best to look for abandoned buildings first or ones that are marked off-limits or quarantined. Those would be the best places to check first.”

[attr="class","capsol"] Hiro had taken the initiative to start looking around in one of the nearby shops, procuring enough food for himself, and possibly for Sayha as well. Since he didn't have the ability to start a fire, he did have the ability to burn some firewood, using one of the lanterns. He did have a good deal of lumber left over from when he had done a lot of wood working, so that would make ample fire material. The rest would just be from the lantern's flame, and from there it would be flame city. He also made it a note to buy another lantern, just in case something happened with the first one. Grabbing another blanket, he would likely use it as a pillow or a cushion of some kind. Given Sayha's estimate of how long they might be underground, as a whole 22 miles of tunnels to go through was definitely a lot, it was definitely better to keep comfort in mind. That being said, though, he didn't want to over-pack. That would likely just weigh them down. He brought along some of the other essentials for living, such as cooking materials and such, and headed back outside to where Sayha was.
He met up with the Assassin once again, still not quite used to seeing her new form. Granted, he didn't mind it at all, but- He needed to stop thinking about that for now. Now wasn't the time. He looked onto the map that Sayha had shared with him. She explained that the map pointed out that the entrance should be somewhere around them, though it was fairly vague as to where it was. She circled where they were on the map, and said that it should be around there at the moment. Suggesting that they look at abandoned buildings first, Hiro looked around. He saw maybe one or two that would likely fit the bill, though he wanted to try something else first. "One second." He said, walking over to where the center of where the circle would have been. Hiro knelt down and put his hand onto the ground, closing his eyes. This was a bit of a trick that he had performed a while back. Hiro activated the Mechanic skill, Quality Control to examine the workings of the road and surrounding area. The skill gave him the ability to see just how certain things were made, and the road was no different.
He didn't notice any changes in the road's construction, nor did he see any any levers that were attached to it at all. Opening his eyes back up, he sighed. Well, it was worth a shot. He walked back over to Sayha, pointing to one of the more ruined buildings nearby. "I'll go ahead and look in there, alright? Let me know if you find anything." Hiro gave her a smile, and then headed off to the building in question. The door creaked open as he pushed it, and nothing else seemed to happen as a result. He took a few steps inside, and started to look around. The building was rather dark, though he could see well enough in it, thanks to what little light had been pouring in from the windows. The place didn't look like it had been well traveled for a while, and he assumed that this meant that this place was actually as abandoned as he had thought it was. He didn't want to give up too early, so he continued to look around the house. Walking all throughout it, slowly and carefully, he tried to see if he could find any signs of activity. Any dust having been unsettled from anything outside of himself was a good enough indicator that someone had been here, recently, though he found nothing of the sort. Even still, he began to check the upstairs portion of the house, and everything else that would likely give him the hint that the abandoned building was anything but.

Hiro had taken slightly longer in the stores than she did, and it seemed that he was still not used to her appearance. She wasn’t expecting him to be, of course, but it still made her wonder what everyone else would think of her new appearance. Once Sayha finished her explanation of the opening, Hiro asked her to wait as he knelt down on the ground. She wasn’t exactly sure what he was doing, but it didn’t seem he was successful at whatever he had done as he walked back over to her soon after.
Hiro pointed to one of the nearby abandoned places, stating he would check that place out. Sayha nodded and made her way to the one that was nearby the one Hiro had gone in.
The place was locked down pretty good, and Sayha had to fence hop to even get onto the property. Of course, she went to the back as to not attract any unwanted attention. The ground around the building was pretty barren, and it didn’t seem like anyone had been there for a while. However, Sayha knew that that could easily be a cover. She made her way to the side door which had been locked. After giving it a swift kick, the door creaked open. Sayha carefully stepped through the doorway and into the house. The floor was covered with a fine layer of dust that didn’t’ seem disturbed until Sayha had made her entrance. The floors creaked under her weight as she walked around, slightly stomping on the floor as she walked. She was hoping to see if there was a secret passageway underneath the place, but after searching the entire ground level, she hadn’t found anything.
Though when Sayha went outside, she noticed that there was a storm cellar of sorts that was off to the side in the back off the yard. Sayha hadn’t noticed it initially because it had been outside of her peripheral vision.
Sayha checked the doors which opened way too easily. While staying on alert, she took the steps down into the cellar which had two huge metal doors against the far wall. Sayha felt uneasy being down in the cellar alone so she headed back up. She waited in the front yard until Hiro came out of the house he had been in and gestured for him to go around the back and come over.
Once Hiro was over the fence, Sayha nodded to the cellar. “I think the entrance is down here. There are two large doors on the opposite wall… also, I get an uneasy feeling just being down there,” Sayha explained.

[attr="class","capsol"] Hiro continued to check the place out, until he was certain that there wasn't anything else to look at. He did keep in mind that this place was very easy to get into, though that was probably a mute point at the moment. It could have just been that the place wasn't very well quarantined, or that others had come in to ransack the place beforehand, it having been a long time ago since then. As Hiro walked out of the building, though, he thought he felt something strange behind him. Turning around slowly, he saw nothing, though the floor creaked a bit as he moved. This place was old. As much as he would like to spend some time to look around more, or maybe fix it up a bit, he had a feeling that he would likely not be able to find much else different in the area. With that in mind, the Monk started to walk outside of the building for real. He turned back around, and as he looked up into the second floor window, he could've sworn he saw a figure move in it. He thought that it must have been his imagination, though he felt a chill run down his spine, regardless.
He looked over to the side, and saw Sayha motioning for Hiro to follow her. She moved back and around to the other side of the house, which he assumed was likely what she wanted him to come check out. Hiro hopped over the fence, and started to move over to where Sayha had been standing. He listened to her as she had mentioned that she had seen a few doors down in this cellar, and that she had felt uneasy being over there. Hiro felt a little bit mischievous, and smirked, looking to Sayha. "If you're scared, we can hold hands." The Monk chuckled, as he started to walk into the cellar. It took a moment for him to realize what he had said, though the darkness would likely hide the little bit of blush on his face, for just mentioning the thought. As he walked down, though, and looked at the doors, he could kind of tell what the Assassin had meant with an uneasy feeling. It just felt dark down here. Much like how he had felt in the house in Avon. A sudden flash in his mind of Morticia appeared, and a huge chill flew up his spine. He visibly winced at it, since it was so recent that it had happened. He shook the thought from his mind, as best he could.
Hiro walked over to the metal doors, and put his hand against them. They were as cold as he had expected, though maybe a bit more than he thought. The light from up above was still bright enough to allow him to see the doors, and their handles. He looked at it a bit more, before reaching for the handles. He began to pull on one of the doors, opening it slowly. The door was heavy, though he had to open it somehow. Eventually, he pulled it all the way open, and went to take a look inside. When he realized just how dark it was in there, Hiro went into his inventory, and pulled out one of the lanterns, lighting it. He held it up and into the tunnel a bit, seeing that the way was basically clear for now. Hiro turned back to Sayha. "This is our last chance. If you'd rather not go in, then we can turn back now." His voice turned more stern. "If that Heretic is really in here, and she's got something planned, then we have to stop her. If you don't want in, then I'll go." He wasn't going to allow Hecate and Azrael to do as they please, especially if it meant that the lives of Landers were at risk. He did, however, hope that Sayha would accompany him, since he didn't do well in dark, enclosed spaces on his own. Not to a destructive point, but for the sake of his thoughts and state of mind. He waited for the Assassin's answer, before doing anything else.

Hiro listened to Sayha as she explained what she had found. He smirked, saying that if she was scared they could hold hands. Immediately though, he headed down the stairs to the cellar. Sayha felt her cheeks flush a bit, but she pushed them down. It wasn’t as if she was scared, just uneasy. After a brief moment, Sayha followed Hiro down the stairs back down to the cellar. At that point, Hiro was standing in front of the metal doors. He pulled on one of the doorknobs, and it screeched open. Hiro turned back to her, saying that it was her last chance to pull out and that if the Heretic Hecate really was down there that they needed to stop whatever plan she had going.
“Okay so two things off the bat,” Sayha said, walking over to the doors, “First, I’m the one with all the notes and details about this place because I’ve been researching it for weeks… not just since I found out Hecate might be involved. Second, if Hecate wasn’t involved, I would have more than likely explored this system on my own.”
Sayha quickly opened her inventory and pulled out the lantern she had bought as well as the matchbox. She knelt down, setting the lantern on the ground. Once the string was up to be lit, Sayha lit one of the matches and then lit the string. She blew out the match when she was done and threw it off to the side of the cellar. Once the lantern was set, Sayha opened her inventory again to pull out her notebook. She rolled it up and put it in one of her jacket pockets for easy access. Then, she picked up the lantern from the ground and stepped forward through the metal doors. She assumed Hiro was following her as she looked around the tunnels. She chose to go at a slow pace since she didn’t want to miss anything.
The tunnels were dark, very dark. If the lantern wasn’t lit, there would have been no way for her to see down there. And with the lantern, Sayha could see that the walls were white.
“These tunnels used to be a mine for natural chalk,” Sayha said, turning to Hiro, “We’ll need to be careful and not hit the walls too hard or we may end up caving in the system or parts of it.”

[attr="class","capsol"] Sayha's initial response came across as perhaps a bit more intense than Hiro had first thought. Then again, she did do all the research on the place, and Hiro would likely have not known about the tunnels to begin with. What she said was true, though, in that she did have all the notes on it. So Hiro would basically be walking in blind if Sayha wasn't there. Perhaps he had overstated the obvious just a little bit before. However, the second thing Sayha had mentioned caused Hiro to smirk a little bit, but keep his mouth shut. If she had felt uneasy just being in the cellar on her own, whether that was because of Hecate or not, then Hiro mildly doubted that she would have come down here of her own accord. However, he kept his mouth shut, and didn't say anything. Perhaps if Hecate wasn't involved at all, then the unease she felt wouldn't really have been there. After all, if anything truly did happen, all one would need to do was either die or use Call of Home to get back to the surface. Either way, he passively let the comments slide over him, though he kept them in mind.
While Sayha was preparing her lantern, Hiro wondered if he should take a step inside or not. It wouldn't be a good idea to leave Sayha behind, especially due to him not knowing almost anything about the place, as well as it would likely piss her off, and she might just decide to come back another time without him. That wouldn't be good. As much as he wanted to stop Hecate, walking in blind surely meant he'd be walking into at least 8 different traps along the way. So, he stood by, while Sayha finished with her lantern. As she had brought it up, Hiro could also see the walls a bit better. The type of lantern Hiro had out was a fish-eye lantern, in that it extended the light down a long ways, and not so much around himself. Having the two different types would likely make things a bit better and easier for them. However, another thought entered his mind, just after Sayha had explained the tunnel's previous use. That was one thing he needed to keep in mind: Don't hit the walls, because they would likely break a few things along the way. This was especially apparent for him, since a Level 90 Monk could possibly break down the entire tunnel system, causing a massive cave in.
Hiro looked at the door, and then at the cellar entrance. He walked back up, and closed the doors at the entrance. As he walked back downstairs, he spoke. "I'll close the doors behind us, so if anybody else were to show up, they would, hopefully be left unaware of our entering the tunnels." He shrugged. "Just in case anybody is down there, and they'd receive intel from above, saying that someone else was in the mines now." Hiro suggested this, specifically for the purpose of making sure that hey didn't get caught in the act. It wouldn't do well to have people show up that they would need to fight, which would cause a ruckus, and then cause more problems for them. He walked in a few steps, and put the lantern on the ground. Turning to wait until Sayha had walked in as well, Hiro moved back to the door, and began to slowly close it behind them. The light from the clouds up above were already pretty much gone, thanks to having closed the doors above, though as the door creaked closed, the light would become dimmer and dimmer. Eventually, the door came to a halt, and it closed shut. He let go of the door, slowly, and walked over to where his lantern was. "Might as well get started." He said, taking a few steps into the darkness.
Now, Hiro wasn't one for being in dark, creepy places, though this one he didn't seem to mind quite as much. Specifically because of him being level 90. The only thing he was really afraid of was the fact that his imagination had the tendency to run wild at some points, so long as it remained unprovoked. Hiro would be just fine, so long as he kept a level head, and just focused on what was going on ahead of them. Speaking of ahead, it looked like a long portion of this tunnel was just a straight, narrow shot. At least, as far as he could tell. The lantern that he held wasn't strong enough to go all the way down the tunnel, though it was able to show them a long ways down. Kind of interesting how a simple lantern like this can produce such a powerful light, actually. He wondered how exactly it worked, but Hiro wasn't a blacksmith. He would leave it be, for now, and just start looking around himself a little bit. Outside of Sayha, there wasn't a whole lot interesting to look at. The walls were dyed white, as is obvious with chalk, so- He just realized what he had thought, and started to question it in his mind. After all, the two of them were here, supposedly alone for the time being. He wondered why the thought had popped up in his mind, but he didn't think a whole lot on it for now. This wasn't the time to be thinking about someone romantically.

Sayha knew she had come off a bit… odd when she said her two off the bat items. Though she was surprised that she wasn’t called out on them… Hiro though would probably bring them up later which she would probably deserve. As the two of them walked in, Hiro said he was going to close the door behind him so anyone passing by wouldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Then Hiro grabbed his own lantern and the two of them started walking forward.
Sayha recalled reading about how sounds worked in the tunnel system, about them echoing and causing the acoustics or sounds to bounce around for miles… and sometimes the entire tunnels. She didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary for the time being… though there might not have been anything to hear as Sayha recalled one of the stories she read before.
“Oh yeah,” Sayha said aloud, “I should mention a story I read about this place… one of the books believes this place is haunted with a ghost. Back when this was a working mine or at least a more public mine, some explorers found a body of a dead woman in a small pond that’s located deep within the tunnel system. When the explorers tried to move the body, strange things happened like lanterns breaking and people getting injured.”
Sayha realized that she probably should have told Hiro beforehand about the possibly haunted part. She recalled Hiro not being particularly happy when they were in the haunted castle up in Avon Valley… and just like then it had been the two of them.
A thought that had been nagging her for a while came up, and Sayha didn’t bother pushing it down. She and Hiro had been on a lot of adventures since they first met. They had initially met playing hide and seek so Sayha could work on her Tracker subclass. Then Hiro had invited her out to his place in Moon Dance Forest where things didn’t go quite as expected… but it did end up with Sayha joining his guild, Apocrypha. More things happened… and Sayha had started feeling something more than friendship. Sayha remembered about her dying and realized that she hadn’t really told anyone… and Hiro could probably use an explanation for her appearance change.
“Hiro,” Sayha started, speaking softer than she had before, “I haven’t told anyone else this, but not too long ago… well, I died. I thought I had been safe, but I hadn’t been… though that’s a different story. Either way… when I died I had another vision of sorts… but it was my own memory instead of another person’s. I saw myself… and I saw what I used to be. And I realized some things… for a really long time, I have been searching for something that no one can give me. My… anger for not being able to find what I was looking for started being emotionally transferred to those around me which I believe is the real reason people didn’t, or in some cases still don’t, want to be around me.”
Sayha didn’t continue speaking even though there was more she wanted to say… though she was also trying to figure out the words of what she truly wanted to say.

[attr="class","capsol"] As fortune, or misfortune, would have it, Sayha had begun to talk about something. Hiro was looking for an excuse to stop thinking about what he had been thinking about, which he had actually started thinking critically on. As Hiro started to pay attention to what it was Sayha was saying, he found himself very quickly regretting it. As was made rather apparent during their trip to that Castle in Avon, Hiro didn't do well in rather spooky environments. He was just fine, so long as he didn't think about the places, and just focused on the mission at hand. However, the girl happened to mention a woman, dead in a small pond. A vision flashed in Hiro's mind, of the castle back in Avon. His mind went straight to Morticia, causing him to breathe in a little heavier for a second. He regained his composure a few moments later, as the Assassin finished up her story. Hiro didn't respond to it, as his mind was already working at something like ten thousand miles and hour. What if there was something down here, like the dead body of that woman in the story?
He knew that it was improbable for the same dead woman to be in the tunnels, however he didn't know the extent by which the game's developers would have done. Such a thing being added to the game would likely be seen as insensitive and insulting toward the woman whom the story was about, if it was true at all. Since game developers were usually mindful of what they put into games, outside of the Grand Theft Auto game designers, such a thing likely wouldn't be the case. However, the Monk knew quite well how his imagination worked. At some point, he would likely think something up that would just cause him to be terrified. This was just how things worked for him, and it slightly scared him. His mind was capable of delving into very strange and precarious places, as well as making up some very strange things. Granted, most people were like that, so he couldn't really consider himself all that much of a minority in that regard. He still shook his head a bit, trying to focus. If Hecate was down here, Hiro knew exactly what he would have to do, in order to keep People of the Land safer.
Hiro's inner thoughts had been cut off once again, by the softer sounding of Sayha's voice. She didn't usually address him in such a manner, just using his name with that kind of inflection. Hiro turned to look at the girl, as she had begun to explain. His heart sank a bit when she told him that she had died. While everybody had to have died at some point now, Hiro being no exception, it was still a difficult thing to undergo. Hiro would likely ask the girl what exactly had happened, but that wasn't for now. She continued to explain that she had realized something, or some things. Something that nobody could give her, huh? As for the next part, Hiro counted his lucky stars for not really having been witnessed to Sayha's overtly aggressive side, since he didn't often cause her distress or angered her. Save for that one time in Moon Dance Forest, but he'd like to think that he didn't cause her to get as mad as that ever again. As she finished up her thoughts, Hiro looked back ahead, thinking about what she had said. He didn't know how to respond right away, though his curiosity was definitely there, and he just felt that he needed to ask her.
Of course, he wouldn't just come right out and ask what it was that nobody had given her, so he would build up to it. "The first time I died," Hiro began, after a moment's pause, his voice softer than usual. "I saw my family back home, in the other world. Usually, one would think, that would be a wonderful thing. But, I didn't really have too much of a connection with my foster parents." He chuckled a bit. "I'm pretty sure I told you already, but I was abandoned when I was 2, and my foster parents had found me by accident, as far as they could tell." He looked up a little bit, continuing. "I think that that was the first time I realized that, here in this world, is the first place I ever actually felt... Welcomed, I guess." Hiro fell silent for a few more moments, but added onto what he had said. "Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say is that dying, at least once here, isn't as bad as most people think. Helps everybody realize something, y'know?" Hiro turned to look at the girl, the question in his mind. They were still walking forward, into the tunnel, though Hiro's attention was solely on Sayha right now. He had forgotten about the ghost story for the time being, as the question bubbled up in his mind. "So, if you don't mind my asking. What is it that you feel nobody has given you?"

Sayha had felt bad about not telling Hiro about the haunted part of the tunnels before as he didn’t seem to take that part very well. Though he quickly shook it off as Sayha had started talking about when she died. He listened to her patiently which made Sayha relax just a bit. Once she finished speaking, Hiro explained, in a much softer voice, that the first time he died he saw his childhood home, or rather his foster home. He realized that in the world that they were in now was the first time he felt welcomed. After a brief moment, he asked what she felt nobody had given her.
Sayha had been expecting the question, but it didn’t make it any easier to answer. “I don’t think I’ve ever told you my full story,” Sayha replied, still in a soft voice, “or at least the part that would make it make sense… When I was three, I was in a car accident with my father and mother. My father and I only had scratches, but my mother was killed on impact. After she died, he buried himself in work, leaving me alone a lot. I think I was four or five when I first met my stepmother. When my father wasn’t looking, she gave me a look that made me know that she hated me. I was six when he married my stepmother.”
Sayha took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to force some of her pain away, “I guess you could call what I’ve been looking for a parent’s love… or maybe rather that feeling in general. I’ve always just been liked or tolerated. Though joining Apocrypha had helped so don’t get me wrong. I feel like I belong somewhere again… like when I was working with martial arts…”
Sayha was going to continue but then she cut herself off. She stopped because she didn’t know how to word things properly afterwards, but also in front of them, she could see that the tunnel split off into two directions. Hopefully Hiro would assume she just cut off because of the tunnel… though she didn’t realize that her cheeks had flushed up a bit.
Sayha stopped and pulled out the notebook from her pocket. She flipped through the pages until she found the tunnel diagram that she had kind of sketched out.
“Okay, we should head right since that will take us deeper,” Sayha rolled the notebook back up, and started heading down the right tunnel.

[attr="class","capsol"] Hiro listened as Sayha had begun to explain a bit of her past. He felt his heart sink further down, as she began to explain how she had lost her mother at a young age. Hiro couldn't really understand how that must have felt for her, for two reasons. First of which being that he was abandoned just before he actually made any lasting memories. He was just too young to remember much of his parents. Their faces, their voices, all just a blur to him. He did know Japanese fairly well, though, due to him having heard it for the longest time. It just came naturally to him, as was his nationality. The second being that he never forged a close connection with his foster mother, so he couldn't really empathize further, since he had explained that his strongest connections were made here in this world. However, what he could do, was understand that she might have had a really strong connection with her mom, and the feelings she had toward her stepmother, was understandable. Someone who seemed to be in contempt with her and her interests, it's hard to get along with someone like that.
Hiro felt as though a shock had jolted through his mind, as Sayha had mentioned a parent's love, or just the emotion in general. This immediately brought back his thoughts from earlier, though he wasn't exactly sure if she had meant that sentiment for him specifically. After she had explained that she felt like she had belonged in Apocrypha, the thoughts died down slowly. One couldn't see it, but a look of relief was on his face. The thoughts having gone away so quickly afterwards really helped him focus. However, amidst the relief, was a small bit of remorse. He wouldn't explain why, as that would likely cause him to flush up just a bit more once again, and he didn't want that to happen. Though he did know how much Sayha had felt about her Martial Arts, and how they had helped turn her into who she is today. The conversation stopped as they had come up to a fork in the tunnel road. One path going left, and one going right. It was basically a true fork in the road. Hiro took a moment to look behind him, flashing the lantern over in that direction. He was wondering if he could see any kind of light from the doors way back there, but he saw only darkness.
They must have traveled a long way by now, and it hadn't really felt like it. After a moment, though, Sayha suggested that they take the right-facing path. Hiro stayed behind for just a moment, after she started to move forward, looking down the tunnel some more. He hadn't fully forgotten about the ghost story from before, and it was still somewhere in his mind. After a few seconds, he turned back around, and started to follow Sayha once again. He had to walk a little bit faster to catch back up well enough to her, since she had taken a few steps before he did, but as soon as he was about the same distance from her as he had been, he resumed his normal pace. Hiro waited a little bit, but then became a bit more curious about Sayha. He felt like he wanted to know more about her. Turning to her just a little, Hiro began. "Well, you can say no, if you would like, but I'm a bit curious now. You've spoken about your Martial Arts before, and what it is you practiced, but I don't think you've told me all about it yet." He chuckled a little bit, and looked to the other side. He felt his cheeks brighten up a bit. "I guess you could say, I just wanna know more about you, since it looks like we'll have the time to just... Talk." He felt a little pang of embarrassment creep up along his face, but he continued walking along with her, waiting for her response.

Hiro followed behind Sayha after she went down the other tunnel. Sayha guessed that the two of them had been walking for at least half an hour though when she checked her interface clock, it was longer. It reminded her of when all her days used to blur together, and she never really knew what day or time it was. Hiro’s voice interrupted her gloomy thoughts. He had become curious more about her martial arts… and that he wanted to know more about her. Sayha’s cheeks flushed up lightly, she couldn’t push the feeling down. She guessed she hadn’t caught on that she purposefully stopped talking which she wasn’t sure if she was glad about it or not.
“Martial arts,” Sayha said, getting the topic back on track to what she had been asked, “I think I said this part, but I don’t remember. I was homeschooled which was me teaching myself. I was in public school for like a semester, but I got in trouble… a lot. I’m pretty sure you could guess why. My father eventually pulled me not really because he was concerned about me but because he was tired of going to my school three times every day. The only class I didn’t get any complaints in was PE and computer classes.”
Sayha chucked under her breath, “Kind of like opposites, but that’s just how I am… anyway after not having much to do after I was done with my daily lessons, I was restless. I looked up some ideas online, and I came across martial arts lessons. After a lot of pushing and shoving, I got my father to sign me up for some, and well, I guess you could say it was history in a way. In the dojo I was studying, it was a Chinese style of martial arts so I had a sifu and a shimu. The sifu, also known as the father, of the dojo focused on the actual martial arts styles while the shimu, or the mother, focused on teaching us healing arts such as herbalism. The dojo gave me a structure to follow which I desperately needed… other students there sometimes considered me an acquaintance, but I was never able to get close to anyone really.”
Sayha paused thinking back to her old lessons, “I think the hardest lesson I had to learn was that you can avoid combat by understanding it. I still struggle with that even now. Most people though would have said that the hardest lesson is to remove emotions from your actions. You can’t fight clearly if you’re being overwhelmed by them. During that lesson, people really started to stay away from me even more because I didn’t struggle with it at all… they didn’t know that I had overheard that they called me emotionless on quite a regular occasion.” Though they weren’t exactly lying…
“We also used to have demonstrations for parents and those who were interested in joining the dojo,” Sayha spoke again, sighing when she was done, “Though my father rarely came to them… even if he did come, he never really said anything. I actually preferred it when he didn’t come… anyway, that’s pretty much it about martial arts…” Though it really wasn’t…
Sayha thought to herself, thinking about what she wanted to say. Just ahead, there was yet another choice in passageways, and Sayha had pulled out her notebook and stopped.
“The middle of the three passageways is the one we should go through,” Sayha said. Though the voice in her head pushed her to say what she had been thinking about for a while now. She didn’t say anything at that point nor did she move towards the tunnel.

[attr="class","capsol"] As Hiro listened to the Assassin talk about her Martial Arts history, and how it had effected her, he found himself becoming quite a bit intrigued. The Monk never really had anything like that in real life, outside of structured family things, so he didn't really find himself getting attached to a certain thing or concept. However, it was very nice to be reassured that her sifu and shimu had taught her as much as they did. Far be it from Hiro to explain how dangerous some parts of the world could be, but having that kind of knowledge could be the deciding factor between life and death. However, he felt a little bit of a twinge when she had mentioned that her father wasn't always present for her demonstrations, and when he was there, her father wouldn't say all that much about it. Along with the other people in the class calling her emotionless, and then her just kind of dealing with it, all of these things forced Hiro to want to reach over to her and just hug her. To him, it felt like she could use a hug. However, the more he thought about it, Sayha might not appreciate a sudden embrace, especially given the current situation.
They had come to a larger fork in the tunnel road, this time having three paths altogether. Hiro didn't really feel tired, though his mind was swelling up a little bit. As Sayha went to check her notes, Hiro thought a little bit more about what she had told him about the Martial Arts, and a little bit into her childhood as a result. The two of them had drastically different upbringings, but at the same time, they were kind of the same. No real connections to their parents, in Hiro's case, the same with his sister. The main differences lied in how Hiro hadn't done much of anything with his life up until this point, whereas Sayha had done some Martial Arts. The life Hiro had lived wasn't unfavorable, since he had been brought into a rather wealthy family, though he didn't really have as much of an emotional connection with them. This was another difference, as Sayha must have had a relationship with her dad, which seemed to have changed after her mother died. Part of Hiro thought that her dad hadn't exactly gotten over it quite yet, and he was still dealing with it in his own way. But, hell if Hiro was going to tell someone else something about their own father.
Sayha had mentioned that the path they needed to take was the middle one, which Hiro nodded to her for, and then started to walk ahead. Hiro assumed that Sayha had was just busy putting her notes away, as he walked a few more steps ahead. What caught him, though, was the fact that the light from her lantern hadn't moved at all. Turning back around, he saw the Assassin standing there, as though she had something more on her mind. Confused, and a little concerned, Hiro walked back over toward the girl. He put the lantern in his hand down onto the ground, and placed a hand on her shoulder. Hiro leaned down a little bit, since he was obviously taller than her, and asked, in a soft tone. "Are you alright, Sayha?" She could probably see the slight of worry on his face, as he motioned over to the side of the tunnel. "If you want, we can take a little bit of a break. We've been walking for a while now, but I'll leave it up to you, okay?" Hiro let go of her shoulder, and straightened up his back, but stayed close enough for the moment. After having known Sayha for this long, it was kind of easy to tell when something was on her mind. He figured that it would be a good idea to take a break, if she needed it. At the moment, her health and safety was his priority, not just as a guild leader, but also as her friend. With that thought in mind, he waited for her response.

Hiro had begun to walk forward when he noticed Sayha hadn’t moved yet. He walked back and set his lantern on the ground. He put his hand on her shoulder and leaned over, asking if she was alright. Sayha’s cheeks lit up red when he did, and she looked down to stare at the lantern in her hand. Hiro then stood back up, but he stayed close to her which just made her more embarrassed. Hiro said that if they wanted to take a bit of a break, then it would be fine, but she shook her head no. Sayha’s grip tightened on the lantern. A ton of thoughts suddenly crashed in her head about whether or not she should say what she was thinking. She could have easily played her pause off as something else, but she realized that the thoughts of what she was trying to say would keep coming back until she did. There was no point in going back.
“It’s… it’s not that. I’m not tired,” Sayha said, her voice soft, “Listen, Hiro, there’s been something I’ve been meaning to tell you… I just… I just haven’t been able to.” Sayha could feel herself getting more and more red, and she couldn’t even look up at him. “Hiro, I… I like you a lot… and… and not just as a friend… I mean… I’ve had a crush on you for a while… and I just…”
Sayha officially felt like an idiot, and she was completely embarrassed… She thought back, and realized that there was a fairly high chance that he didn’t feel the same way. After all, he had a guild and had friends for quite some time… Though there wasn’t anything Sayha could do to take her words back. She would just have to wait to hear Hiro’s response.

[attr="class","capsol"] It took a little bit for Sayha to respond to Hiro, but he waited patiently for her to say something. However, the words that had left her mouth... Came as a bit of a surprise, as one would imagine. Hiro's eyes widened, and immediately following that, his face blushed up quite red. "O-Oh..." He stuttered, looking in a different direction. While he hadn't thought about it that much, he had a feeling that he had thought more of Sayha than he originally felt beforehand. The idea had crossed his mind a few times before, but he hadn't really addressed it at the time, culminating to a feeling of not being too sure. To be honest, he had felt happier and perhaps more excited to be part of this little escapade into the underground than he probably should have, though he couldn't really explain why. Maybe it was the idea of being near her again? He wasn't all that sure of it himself, but he could feel his heart beating a good deal underneath his chest. Hiro thought that he probably should have taken a few steps back, to give her some breathing room, and pick up the lantern. At least, that was his initial thought.
As the Monk looked back at the girl, who was very embarrassed, and looking down at her hands which gripped the lantern, Hiro could see her face was as bright red as his was. The whole situation made just made her seem... Cute, really. However, the second that thought had crossed his mind, Hiro did need to take a step back, just for the sake of the warmth coming from his cherry-like face didn't cause her to get heatstroke. He turned around, too, and thought about things a little bit for himself. Here they were, two people, a guy and a girl, all alone. The girl confesses to the guy. The guy's response? Yet to be heard. He took a step back, and turned around, leaving the girl standing there for a moment. From an outside angle, it would have seemed like they were both embarrassed about it, and were just trying to handle it as best they could. From an inside point of view, specifically from Sayha's perspective, it looked like he was probably trying to distance himself from her, and was uncomfortable with the whole prospect. That wasn't the case at all, and he needed to fix it. Turning around slowly, Hiro looked at Sayha, with a soft smile on his face.
"Sayha, look..." He paused for a moment, just trying to get the words into his mind. "I... I like you, too..." Hiro fell silent again, his heart fluttering a bit. The embarrassment was still very much present on his face, though he was trying to be calm about it. He didn't know what exactly to say from there, but he felt the urgent need to walk over to her and hug her. He wouldn't do that, of course, since she might just become even more embarrassed, or he would become too embarrassed halfway through, and shy away. However, his desire to go over to her and embrace her was just a bit too strong for him right now. Hiro was about to take a step closer to her, when he had heard something from the tunnel behind them. The gravity of where they were, and the story that Sayha had mentioned beforehand, had caused Hiro to worry unnecessarily. Or, was it a necessary worry? Hiro reached back over to the fish-eye lantern he had, and shined it behind them, all the while summoning Yin to his right hand, using Quick Draw. He aimed both the gun, and the lantern down the way, ready to fire if he needed to. As he had done so, he saw nothing down the way.
His eyes had widened a little, but the embarrassment on his face was gone. As he lowered both the lantern and the gun, he let out a deep breath. He looked over to the Assassin nearby him, feeling the embarrassment take place once more. However, it was accompanied by a sense of duty that they had for being down in this place. After a second, Hiro began. "I do like you, Sayha. Please understand that I do. But... Right now, we have something else to deal with. We're here in the tunnels for a potential reason, other than just walking around in it. If we were just exploring around, then we could talk about it, but if Hecate is down here somewhere, then we have to be able to focus on any fight that might arise. That is, I mean..." He caught himself in a loop really quick, thinking about this. "Of course our minds are both going to be preoccupied with some of this stuff, but we need to focus on the objective at hand." Still feeling more and more ashamed of himself, he thought of a way that they could at least continue talking about it for a little while longer. "We can talk about this a little on the way, but we really... Can't do much else until things have calmed down, for both of us. We need to focus on this situation, should anything arise that we have to deal with immediately." Having finished this statement, Hiro kept Yin in his hand, and turned the lantern ahead of them, down the middle path. Still looking back to the girl, Hiro spoke once more. "Shall we get moving?" Hiro would begin to take a few steps down the middle tunnel, as soon as Sayha was ready.

Hiro didn’t say anything at first, and from how he was acting, Sayha guessed he was embarrassed as well. Hiro had turned around which made Sayha’s heart drop a bit, but she used that time to roll up her notebook and put it away in her pocket again. She braced herself for the worse response when Hiro said her name… though he said that he liked her as well. Sayha looked up slowly to see that Hiro was just as red as she was. However a noise down the deep tunnel interrupted her thoughts and appeared to interrupt Hiro’s as well as he turned to look down the tunnel, grabbing his lantern and pulling out one of his pistols. Sayha herself pulled her giant scythe out of her inventory. However due to its size, it wasn’t exactly useable so after she set her lantern down, she pushed one of the triggers on the sheath which converted the weapon into two kamas with a chain connecting the two. The heads were still incredibly large, but they were now a bit more manageable. Sayha attached the kamas to her belt and picked up her lantern.
Hiro turned back to her, the embarrassment now gone. Then again, Sayha’s embarrassment had also disappeared as well. He emphasized that he did like her, but they needed to deal with the situation at hand. Sayha nodded in agreement, and the two of them headed down the middle tunnel Sayha had mentioned.
As they walked, Sayha activating <Hearing Aptitude> so she could hear what was going on. Not far in front of them, Sayha could hear… something. She wasn’t really sure what it was, but it didn’t sound right.
“Hiro, let’s switch to just my lantern,” Sayha said quietly, “I hear something up ahead but I can’t figure out what it is. Let’s not alert whatever’s in front of us of our arrival… well let’s do our best not to alert them as quickly.” She held out her lantern to Hiro for him to either accept or not.
For the time being, Sayha kept her ears open, trying to discern anything. Eventually she was able to single out a single sound: water dropping.

[attr="class","capsol"] As the two would begin to walk down the tunnel some more, Hiro's mind was filled with all sorts of thoughts and questions, referring back to the instance that had just occurred between the two of them. Hiro was somehow very happy and excited, knowing that Sayha had felt that way about him. While he was happy, he was also somehow distraught with all sorts of other questions, as well as a bit of anger towards whatever sound they had heard behind them. He would've liked to talk more about it, though the urgency of what they were here for was a bit too important to put on the back burner for now. He still silently cursed the interruption that had happened, since he would've liked to know a bit more about Sayha still. He had a feeling that the end of her Martial Arts story was a bit forced, and maybe there was something else she hadn't said quite yet. But, that would come in due time. Hiro shook his head a little bit, trying to focus more clearly on the mission at hand. He gripped Yin a little stronger in his right hand, as he held the lantern in his other.
A few moments later, Sayha had told Hiro that they should shift over to just her lantern, because she could hear something up ahead. Without arguing at all, the Monk put the lantern away in his inventory. Hiro trusted Sayha's ears a lot more than most other people, and if she said that she had heard something, then Hiro would do whatever she says from there. He took a moment to raise up the pistol in his hand, while also summoning Yang to his other hand. While it wasn't really that good of an idea to focus on having some other kinds of weapons out, as Hiro was a Monk, Sayha had told him to refrain from hitting the walls. If a bullet hit the wall, then it would do much less damage than Hiro's fist, especially because of how strong an impact from a Level 90 Monk's attack was. Also, this way, he could still run quickly if he needed to, while having both pistols out. When he didn't see anything immediately in front of them, he lowered both the weapons, and continued to walk normally. He kept his grip tight on the weapons, but was still a bit hesitant to use them at the moment, since the silence was so powerful.
After a few moments, Hiro spoke quietly over to Sayha. "Let me know whatever it is, whenever you can hear it more clearly." Whatever was ahead of them, Hiro wasn't keen on the idea at all. Being unaware of the things ahead of them, or behind them, gave his mind room to wander and wonder. What if it wasn't anything behind or before then, but actually just their imagination? That would be silly, since the two of them having a collective imagining would be strange, and would likely cause them to react in the same manner as now. Maybe someone had actually come in behind them? That would also be rather strange, since the metal door had creaked open quite loudly. If someone did come in behind them, they either would've heard it, or they would've heard someone else running or walking behind them. The sound in this place reverberated quite well, for an old mine. Probably had something to do with the fact that it was mostly chalk. Either way, Hiro stayed silent, and would try to move a bit more quietly, so Sayha didn't have Hiro's movement to listen over. They weren't moving as fast now, though Hiro was okay with this fact. Whatever was ahead of them, he likely still couldn't hear whatever it was, but he kept moving alongside Sayha.
