Somewhere away from the center of the city was a small gathering of tents and huts. This was where the Messier Order seemed to reside, while they had their stay in the city. Hiro and Sayha had just returned from Lune, once again, after having explained everything to the Trickster. They made their way to the city once again, in an attempt to understand what exactly they had in mind. It had been long overdue that the Sages actually answer their questions, and after having been sent back and forth between time periods now, Hiro especially felt like they deserved dome actual answers. No more of the beating around the bush that had been happening before. It was time for some direct answers. Hiro neared the first of the tents, but stopped where he was for a moment. As the two of them had returned to the city, Hiro had found himself becoming more irrationally angry at the Sages than he needed to be. He needed to calm himself down, if he was going to actually ask the right questions. If he had seen the Sage that he had to deal with beforehand, before he calmed down, it might have gotten ugly.
As the two of them would eventually reach the biggest tent in the group, Hiro would open the flap up, to reveal some of the Sages that had been working at desks, and observing artifacts from long before. He would hold it to allow Sayha to walk in first, and then he would follow suit, not too long afterwards. His eyes had caught sight of the Sage that he had been forced to deal with before, and, since the Sages hadn't seen Sayha's new look yet, they didn't think much of her at the moment. Hiro squinted just a bit, but only until another Sage had walked over to them. They didn't say much of anything at first, but only looked at the two. Hiro was about to take a step forward and glare at the cloaked being, until they had pulled off their hood, and revealed a strangely familiar face. Hiro's eyes widened, and his mouth fell open just a tiny bit. "Zaffre...?" He asked. Indeed, the man before them would look exactly like Zaffre, but he raised his hand to dispel the thought immediately afterwards.
"No, I am not Zaffre. I do, however, hold a good deal of his bloodline within me." He opened his arms out wide, and took a step back. "I am Sage Bode, one of the descendants of Magistrate Zaffre. You have, no doubt, come to us to ask some questions, based on who we are and what we know." He turned to face the creepy Sage that Hiro had spoken with, and motioned for them to step forward. They did, but not too much further from where they had been standing. Bode turned to the two once again. "I am a descendant of Zaffre, because he was one of the few who had escaped from Lonsdale before it was ultimately destroyed. The destruction of the city is still a mystery to us, but we know that the Pebble of Philosophy has some power that can alter the events in the past, and ultimately save the city. We ask of you, please help us. The city is far too important to let go into the annuls of time."
Hiro squinted at the man once again, folding his arms across his chest. "I think before either of us even try to help you, you'd better be doing some explaining." As Hiro had said this, the Sage that Sayha had dealt with appeared, and also stood just a little behind Bode. He bowed to the two, before he continued to listen in. "You've all done nothing but just send us on various missions and quests, instead of actually trying to correct the problem yourself. So, it's only fair that we actually get a chance to ask: Who are you, the Messier Sages? What do you do?"
The creepy Sage stepped forward, and began to speak. "We, the Messier Sages, are a guiding light that may help restore the balance to the past, as it once was. We have been researching the ancient land of Lonsdale, and other various places where the history is muddied by the sands of time, and their true occurrences were not made clear. We, however, do not possess the ability to control the Pebbles of Philosophy, which has mitigated us to a rather upsetting role as guides for those who are able to control it." They pointed to the two. "You two, however, seem to be able to control it rather well, having managed to recover it quite easily." They lowered their finger, and shuffled over to a book on one of the tables. They brought it back over, and flipped through some of the pages. "All you need to know is that I am the head of this branch's research division, and while you were gone, I unearthed something quite interesting... Pertaining to the Philosopher's Stone."
Hiro raised an eyebrow. "The Philosopher's Stone? You mean like the first Harry Potter movie?" His questions were laden with sarcasm. The Sages looked at him confusedly, but he just shook his head. "Nevermind. Adventurer joke. So, about this Philosopher's Stone."
The Sage continued. "Yes, right. The Stone is fabled to have been a much more powerful version of the Pebble of Philosophy, and that much of the Pebble's strength had been lost into time, long ago. The powers that worked within it had faded as time went by, though the power can be restored, through a sacred ritual that only few knew of, at the time." Their expression turned into a more exasperated one, as they continued. "The ritual itself was rather intricate, though we can have all that we need to prepare it soon. We will be sure to let you know, when the preparations are complete." They fell silent from there, allowing Hiro a few seconds to think about things. After having finally gotten a straight answer about who they are, and what they did, he felt that he could understand a bit more in how they weren't able to give them both straight answers beforehand. It was because they didn't know, themselves. Hiro couldn't fault them for that, though he wished that they had explained that long, long before. He would remain silent for a bit, and allow Sayha to ask anything that she might have questions about. It was only fair that the two would be given answers for the questions that they had in mind. However, Hiro had probably asked two of the more prominent questions at the moment. Maybe after listening to Sayha's questions, he'd form another of his own.
