The chill in the house was starting to get to her, to the point where she yearned for warmer clothing. Elkeid absentmindedly rubbed at her arms. The flesh there was riddled with goosebumps. You would think that she would be used to this by now, having spent years in Sweden. She also had a cozy fireplace and good drink to keep her warm, however. Sometimes she even had a partner. Those were very rare times, when she actually sought the comfort of another. It was hard when you were borderline asexual.
The bricks of clay scattered around on her desk were colder than usual. She rubbed her hands together to alleviate the chill, but to no avail. Her crafting room could no longer past as even tempered. Instead, Elkeid focused on constructing the fireplace. A section of the house was being stripped away at this moment, to make way for the fireplace. The Adventurers she had recruited were all too eager to help, and would benefit from the task, being woodcrafters and what not. It saved her a heck of a lot of trouble.
Elkeid began by dumping the blocks of clay into a large bucket. She added some sand and water, and used a broom handle to mix the batter. She really had no idea what she was doing, but assumed bricks could be made from mud, clay, etc. And the sand was just there to help with the consistency. It was hard going at first. Clay was, as expected, thick and hard to turn into mush without some persistence. It took her a good thirty minutes to beat the lot into a workable putty, and another twenty to smooth it out.
The result was favorable, she supposed, but she would need much more than what the bucket provided. That was not so bad, really. Her kiln could only hold so much, and she would have to let the bricks dry before firing, anyway. So she would essentially be working in shifts. Her only regret was not getting someone else to help. It would certainly save her a lot of trouble.
