After a small walk, I arrive at the market corner of Londinium. It’s St Pancras Station. A ruined station that now a central circle for crafting workspace and markets. The people, of course they are busy, this is almost noon anyway. I can read some of the banners, advertising the goods or services people can get there. There is certain area that rather clean, but my destination is somewhat more shady and hidden than usual. I take a nearest alleyway to enter the central line of the market. It’s more crowded here, I can smell all the goodies aromas mixed in the air. Make me hungry only by imagining what kind of dish I can make with those ingredients in real life. Bah, I mustn’t distracted by those kind of thought now. I don’t even meet with the person yet, my next destination will be meeting this certain person and get the information. Well, this time my source not just random person who know certain information source, but from a merchant that occupied in transporting forging materials. Yeah, I most likely hit the jackpot this time. I wonder what kind of person I will meet. I follow the alleyway all the way to the direction of an open-factory-like place. Then take quick turn after the second fork. Yep, I have followed what the merchant’s porter told me all this time, and if he is right, I will likely see a small restaurant now. Hmm… yep, that is the restaurant. Then, that is my destination. I take a quick glance on the banner at the top before entering the place. Whoa… this is… in front of me there are many forging tools in natty spread. The floor partially just a ground, make it easy to bang the heated metal. In the corner, many kind of mold piled up one after another. There are also two different furnaces facing on each other walls. Lastly on the wall behind the counter, many kind of handmade armaments hanging neatly. Oh yeah, almost forgot there is wei… err, I think I just meet the owner. “Umm, hello sir. My friend suggest me about this place, he says I will get some information about materials…” “work” “err… excuse me?” “wooork” “what work? Do you want to start working, or you want me to work?” “get up your ass and start working dammit” (bang bang bang) he hit my head with his wooden stick multiple times. “Ouch, alright alrgiht…” meh, he is the worst. Well, they also said learning by doing right. I walk toward the workplace, and still amazed how complete his collection about forging tools. Well, as far as I know in real life there all here, or at least semi upgraded version. There are also tools that I don’t recognize. I take the shovel then start pilling the furnace inside with the coals, then lit the fire. I let the coals heated up before ready for melting the metals. I take a walk to nearby wallboard and taking one of the task note. Iron Nails | Materials Required: 1 Unrefined Metal Rather shoddy nails made of dark iron, they're particularly useful for Artisans and Woodcrafters for building houses and other such things, though it's possible that Mechanics or Alchemists could also find uses for them. They're rather square in shape and look rather easily prone to rust, though they seem sturdy enough for their purposes. The weakest point in at the base, where the head connects to the nail; perhaps with better materials, it could be made stronger. |
Hmm, I just need unrefined metal. Ah, I have use that material before, where is it here. Whoa… I stunned for a while in front of materials room. Inside this storage room I find many things and even some I don’t recognize, there are labels on almost all of them. There is also a wall board with notes indicating the common usage of certain materials. Ah right, I just need unrefined metal this time, there it is. I put unrefined metal on the container then put it inside furnace, let it heated until it melts. I keep blowing some air to keep the coals on its top temperature, arranging them so the heated one won’t piled under the warm one. I keep blowing while moving the container, let the metal melted into its liquid from. Also pilling up more coals when the current not enough for heating the container. I can faintly feel the gaze of the owner behind me. Well, I don’t care. When I am in front of the furnace, I must do the job until it’s finished. Ah, I can see the metal start melting. Wow, this furnace must have a good air control to keep the heat circling inside, multiply the heating. I blowing more air to fasten the process. Wohoo, working with such grade equipment is sure exciting. Words (without panel) : 732

The metal has melted enough. I pick the container up from its handler then move it to small cylindrical mold. There are many size of cylindrical molds according the usage, I have prepared the medium one, enough to mold five nails with this amount of metal liquid. I close the mold as soon as I emptied the container, lets the metal cooling inside the mold. I take the moment to go outside to take a bucket of water from the wells to fasten the cooling process.
For the base, I need cylindrical metal as the body shape of the nails, and long one to ease the mass-producing. The rest is easy, cut the tip to make it sharp and separate it from the rest of metal, then grip the neck and bang the top to flatten it, where people normally hammering it. a smooth cylindrical metal maybe hard to be found as it usually mass produced by manufacturer in real life. Surely, this man have many tools here, it almost giving the vibe of this place as forging tolls shop rather than armaments shop or forging workshop. I wonder where he got all of these things. To be honest, I want to bring some of it home to enrich my collection. Ah right, sometimes I forget that I cannot go home.
The cooling was complete. I open the mold, take cylindrical metal with iron plier, and start cutting it while it still have some flexibility. Then put the cut and grip it in the neck, and then bang the top to flatten it. Rinse and repeat for the other five. Well, all done, smooth cylindrical nails similar to real life one. I group the nails and roll it with rough paper, and then I put the sorting name on the paper. I put the grouped nails inside the storage and put a mark on the ‘Iron Nails’ task at wallboard. Come to think about it, I am currently at the largest crafting site in Londinium, surely there is much more kind of craftwork outside. So far, I just walked across the market and not crafting places, or was I crossed one of them and not realized. Oh, maybe cooking classified as crafting, then there is a restaurant in front of this place. Whoa, I want to take a visit someday. With my current level and gain, I think I finally can taste some real tasted foods.
"Boy, why don’t you use cylindrical metal from the start” “Really? You have one? I thought they all have this kind of form like this” “khekhekhekhe… I have many kinds of metal. Boy, you are interesting one” then, you will teach me about materials “Then come again tomorrow, there is so much work to do” Smmmh, well, I think it not so bad. I am sure I can learn many thing when working with all these materials here. “Okay” I give him a big wide grin, but the owner already back asleep on his desk. Words : 501

I just ignore the ‘closed’ sign in front of the door, and continue barging in. The place still empty as expected, even the owner is nowhere to be seen. I am not surprised. After all I come this early with my own will. Yep, partly because I feel responsible about the job, even part of it was just the owner selfishness. I am happy to be able to take blacksmith job again. Hell… with these tools, I don’t know how many metalwork I can make. But, uwooo… Just watching them from this close… heh, I so want to bring some of these tools home. Although they don’t have exceptional feature like in real world, for me they are so unique, too unique that I don’t even know how to use some of them. That’s why I can’t hold my curiosity to test their usefulness in my next work. Ah what’s the job this time. lets see… Iron Screwdriver | Materials Required: 2 Unrefined Metal, 1 Old Quencher An item made entirely of pure iron which is used in the tightening of objects with the same head-slot as the tip. The screwdriver can vary between three tips: "Phillips-Head" (which has a plus-end tip), to a "Flat-Tip" (which has a wedge-type tip), or a "Star-tip" (which can have multiple different numbers of edges depending on the fabrication method). |
Hmm, from the amount of material, I can combine both unrefined metals to produce the harder one. Yep, must find where that guy keeping old quenchers, maybe in the storage. Ah, I open the storage door and find a wooden bucket lay in the corner. Beside it there is a large wooden barrel filled with liquid. Ah, that must be the old quenching liquid. I take the liquid about half of the bucket, and then bring it to the furnace room. Meh, I forgot to light the fire to warm the furnace first. After all this is early morning, sudden change of heat might be bad for the wall. I put the bucket of quenching liquid near the furnace and close the top. After that, I shovel the remaining coals inside the furnace to bring the warmer coals up to the top, and then lit it. (Yawn) right, maybe I woke up too early. Well, it’s not my fault. I mean, how can I sleep peacefully with all these metalwork plan in my head. I keep imagining and imagining any sort of metal’s combinations, forming new metalwork and bring more possibility to combine. All of them like a stair with no end, but still a stair, inviting dreamer to climb more higher. I keep closing and opening my eyes repeatedly and still cannot find any reason to give up on dreaming. Ah, such delicious promises luring my appetite. I have feeling I will waste my live if I just let it go.
I shove more coals as the temperature near furnace become warmer, and close to hot. I keep my focus at the pile to not burry the red heated coals. Carefully placing them inside the furnace, and stir them after a while so the heat divided evenly, the furnace space will do the rest of amplifying the heat. I take one metal and start banging it to become a little more flat, it can be done even the metal is still cold as long as is have lesser hardness than average. It’s rare for materials to have decent hardness. They usually are too thick and hard to shape, or too weak that when one bang them with hammer, they can easily flatten. Weak material is easy to shape, the hardness can be tweaked as long as there is decent equipment around, and the metal quality is not too poor. Like when you bang it, it will break rather than flatten. Ah, the shape is enough. I put the flattened metal and take another metal, then bang it like the previous. Well, it’s the requirement. For one who has one high quality metal, it can be done with only one metal. Combining without decent heating is same as providing crack line for the final result to break. Such thing is big fail for blacksmith, or at least such laughing stock among my villagers. As controlling the heat is one of important skill for blacksmith. I cannot allow such fault happen when I handle it. For me this past knowledge from people in my village is great gift that I treasure as part of my memory of my live in the real world. I… don’t know if this memory will still stay with me after I find a way to go back. Somehow, I am afraid that kind of things will really happen to me. Ah, now both metals have flattened. I take one of them with large iron pliers then place it into furnace. After that, I take another metal and place it beside the first one. I let them burned naturally before blowing some air into the furnace. Keep the heat risen to the point of unrefined metals inside become redden by heat. There is no reason to be hasty, as the air temperature inside furnace will play the role to emanate heat.
I take a quick look to the tools around the room, while still blowing. Hmm, maybe I can use that for alternative. Yep most likely, since I cannot find appropriate tool for shaping it. I put the blower for moment to arrange the tools, so I can quick swap the process after the heating done. There may be limited amount of resources, but if one can manage it, even such lame tools can be useful. That how I thought about this situation, and also what makes me dazzled by uniqueness of tools here. It’s like I can extending my arms into multiple function, even I don’t know how the function will help me. Even from the obvious usage like this furnace, I can feel my other hands will taking care of for the next step. Everything has been arranged carefully, forming the steps to reach the goal. Well, if I put it like that, it’s not surprise I have hard time when I try to sleep, while thinking all that. Hmm, the heat might be enough. I take one metal from furnace with pliers and put it on the anvil, let the heated sit facing the top. After that, I take other metal and put the heated side on the metal I previously put, then hammer them.

A loud voice of metals crashing filled the room, ringing the ears of someone who not used to this kind of sound. It’s like clashing swords in war, or more like the crashing of any kind of metallic armament, but more rhythmic and composed. For me, the repeating sounds are inducing an urge to become more spirited fighting with the metal, yet calming and more confronting the mind to handle it with care. The reverberation is travelling thorough the metal and then toward the hammer, the anvil throbbing my grip. I tighten my grip to have more control on giving momentum to the hammerhead. So, I can send more force to flatten both metal in purpose to make them more emerged with each other. Yes, I am about to combine these two metals, banging them as the red heat color still emanate from metals joint. Now the size of both metal combined was twice bigger than one metal, even in flattened state. Well, I am not done yet, there is so not much complicated things to do before it comes to shaping process. At least, that’s what I am thinking right now. I am so like tinkering with these tools at the moment, curious about what they can do and what I can do with them.
I just focus on hammering the two metals and ignore the change of my surrounding. Well, I think it’s around that time when morning start to become noon. I can guess from the sunlight that trespassing thorough the windows. Eh, who opened the window. Ah… who cares, focusing to the job is more important right now. To hammer randomly will just adding unused mess of hardness within the metal, and just add more work when entering the shaping process. Such is as metalworker, just bad habit that needs to be fixed before someone try to do more complicated forge. Although there will be one or two faults that even an experienced blacksmith can carelessly did, with focus and planning the forge beforehand, it can be reduced. I was used to my mistakes, so I can find a way to avoid some of them. However, there are still much more things that I don’t discover yet, and in this game world there much more than before. The learning process will continue as long as the person not giving up on it. Well, that was what my old man said.
Air temperature risen, balancing to the heat inside the furnace. I am moving the attached metals into furnace again to gain more flexibility. Yah, such hot place (lick lick) errrr… why I am licking my paw again? “Kid…” gasp! “turn off the light and open the windows when it’s brighter outside, you waste my candle” ceh “I don’t remember working for you grandgrand, do it yourself” “and you warming the furnace too late” meh, he doesn’t even listen to me. I want to say something, but someone entering the place, perhaps a customer. “I am coming…” the owner turn back left me alone and go to his usual place behind the counter, and start chatting with her. Oh right, I must concern more on the heated metal inside furnace. Yep, still in good condition. I flip the pliers in my hand, so the heat also affects the other side. The air circulations inside furnace prevent the heated side to be cooled, and so I get both sides redden with heat. I take it back to the anvil and continue hammering it. The more heated it is, the more combined both metals will be. I am happy knowing the method work as expected. So far, the process is still following the real world method, or so I think. I can still plan the craftwork, and the throughout process will follow the plan. There are still some readjustments here and there, still same as in real world process. Hmm, although this world is filled with magic and such, my forging so far is just similar to usual forging using heat and metal as in real world. I feel no such magical energy intervention when I am in the process, except for final result that somehow displaying status information where it includes stating the craft effect. Yeah, some of my craft so far gain addition to have effect boosting in it, I don’t know why. Maybe I just grasped so little amount of knowledge of forging in this world. There is so much things that I don’t know yet.
I am hammering the metal, continuing my plan to combine both of the parts. All of the metal side glowing red because of overheating temperature. Such a nice view, means I am doing it right. After the metal flattens enough, I hammer the sides of it to become more rounded except for the front and the back side. Occasionally return it to the furnace when the red glow begins to become too dim. Hmm, it more likes red glowed croquet now. The bizarre shaped one, of course. I continue repeating the process into making it semi cylindrical. This combining process is crucial before the metal can be used for the next step. Sometimes, the furnace heating is kind of low. I shove and pile more coals to bring the heat back, occasionally blowing some air in the process. This kind of job is giving me more hype rather than tiring. So much as I thirst for more craft, maybe I can try making something unusual later. Ah right, I need to focus more on what I have in my hand right now. Hmm, the shape already closes enough to what I have planed. I put the metal back into the furnace, heating it for the next process. It just light heating, I won’t need more overall flexibility, and rather I just need the outer layer’s flexibility. I hold the metal with my pliers and occasionally flip it so the heat will be spread evenly on four sides. The tools have been prepared beforehand, I can’t wait to see if my metalwork plan can be proceed successfully.

The red heated metal causing the temperature rises around me. The metal is not that hot like when I burn it to get overall flexibility, but still cannot be touched by bare hand. It may cause a serious burn scar, in real world, I don’t know what will happen if I touch it in this world. Sure I have my heatsink skill that grants me a slight tolerance against heat, but I never try to touch it directly before, and I know now is not the time. Meh, it’s rare for me to hold my curiosity. Maybe the hype for metalworking is too high. I hope I won’t go too overboard and forgetting to observe the process carefully. Like in the past when I first started using a weld, I almost weld my right leg’s thumb. Although, it is not causing any burn marks, I made a hole on our floor and got fairly scolded for that. Well, what you can expect from a kid with too much curiosity, when the world is still all blue. However I like those times of mine, it’s like I am drunk and can always drink more to satisfy myself without getting full. I learnt many things that times, mostly about how to work and make use of things. That’s how I got many acquaintances through mentoring, learning from the one who willing to pass some knowledge. Learning is take from other as example, not take and then kick the source so people can look at you highly. With that, the student will have faith in their learning more rather than just degraded as sly person. Or so I thought for overall socialization try out from my childhood, when I was watching certain persons growing into certain types. To be honest I don’t have very good memories regarding people intentions. In my childhood, my relatives was often walk me to the capital. I used to get confused for watching how people there behave. Nonchalantly stepping on others, tricking people as it was a normal thing to do, getting upset if they see one who has skill to be able to do more than them from the realm they don’t know then they try to step on that one, trying to make that one under their control, chaining that one future as if cannot survive if not depend to them. I have learned and I don’t care. Let them step on each other head and try to trick each other kind, I just being me in my side, choosing the path as a wall still have faith that people can be nice if they try. However, that didn’t go as smooth as I assume it will be. There are times when I felt the world is so strange for me. Like when I learn about when people talk nicely there will be more friends, but when I talk nicely people tend to be in neutral and expect me to give some gift to make them acquaintances, or when you see people giving help even it’s intentional they will have people surround them, but when I help people for the sake of helping I got distanced like they don’t approve if someone other than their lick-place people getting more attention. So, I don’t care. I just being myself, rely on my own judgment. Hmm, maybe I just got to that point when my kind tend to mistrust people other than family or someone I know for long time.
Ah, I am not supposed to bring sadness to my work, they may also cry and produce bad craft. Well, that was just a myth from my village. Maybe it was intended to make sure we blacksmith have the right mind when we do our job. The lack of concentration only makes the craft won’t form as intended, and it will looked like sad being. However, it still helps us to grow into more dependent blacksmith, keeps reminding us to concentrate on our work. The myth itself may be a lie, even for good intent. However, there won’t be any person to be blame when the young one found out the lie, and they will still get the advantage of the skill they built. Yep, it wrong, but it still common sense there.
I put the heated metal quickly into a bucket of quenching oil as soon as it was halfway into overheating. The oil around the heated metal boiling when I put it vertically into the liquid, confirming the quick cooling process. I put the metal on anvil again and hammer it on all sides except for handler and tip, according to my plan. I let the handle side to be long enough, while the process concentrating more on firming whole metal, specially the tip. The hammering process will shape the metal while the liquid firming it using quick cooling process. The metal become more firm and cylindrical as I repeat the process. Heating, cooling, hammering, rinse and repeat. The metal has come to the shape of cylindrical. I put it back to the anvil and hold it with my pliers, keep the burn focusing on the area I need to bend. After it heated enough, I put it back to the anvil and hammering it on the handler part so it become L shaped. I am still not done with it. I put the metal back to the anvil again and focus on other area where I need to bend with hammer. Rinse and repeat again until the previous L shaped handle become horizontally laying O shaped.
Now, with the handler ready. I put the metal back to furnace, this time to giving more flexibility on where the joint overlap. I bring it back to anvil and hammer it to connect. Next I put the tip inside furnace, lift it when it heated enough and sink it to the liquid. I hold the tip long enough to be cooled so it won’t break the grinder but still has the flexibility. Finally, I take the grind and start shaping the tip into ‘plus’ shaped. Hmm, It should be useful now. I lift the formed screwdriver on my face, enjoying my creation. The look at the direction of the place owner, expecting some praises for my achievement. He sit there, lays on his back, facing to my direction, with eyes closed. Sigh, he is sleeping again. Meh, I just put it back to the place and enjoying my time off.

I am looking at the room where I did metal craft before. Looking from outside like this, I realize how small it was comparing to how much useful weapons and equipment produced from there. I am amazed on how such a place can contribute so much, makes me want to have my own workshop. Well, there may be the time when I can buy a building and create my own workplace, but not now, I cannot afford that yet. Also, it won’t be wrong choice to start business by following other who have succeed, taking example from one who has real experience in this profession. As people say ‘start small, enjoy the fruits when it grown big’, ‘don’t be too hasty or there will be only regret waiting on destination’ and ‘take times to learn’. I am grateful enough to find a place where I can start, thank for certain lander. With this, I can level my blacksmith skill little by little. The owner is not that strict about how I make the crafts, but also somewhat ignore my existence, at least that was what I think about him. Well, that suit me perfectly. I can plan my daily schedule for working in workshop and hunting monsters for gold, with that I will have enough gold for living yet still have some for saving. So far, the plan works perfectly, aside from socialization that I can’t conclude, I am doing fine. I still have time off like this to relax. I take a bottle of water and hand some gold to the shop owner, then quickly take a drink to relieve my body. The day is so bright, sunlight blazing directly on my head, burning the brain. There are a couple of landers walking in and out of the workshop. I can guess what they do, either putting the request or claiming the weapon or equipment. There may be some who just checking the prices, or examining the quality of craft. Couples of girls just talking endlessly between the shelves, claiming the place as their hangout spot. With such busy place, I don’t think I can enter the place for some times. I wonder how the grandgrand doing there, handling so much customers around by himself. Well, I don’t think I can help either, I am not confident with my look and afraid it will only drops the sale. So here I am, sitting on a bench at the nearest shop, enjoying my bottle of water.
I flush some water on my palms, then stick them on the nearest stone structure. Ah… so cool… I like it. I look at workshop building from the corner of my eyes, imagining how hot inside there if the furnace still on. Surely, with man and woman inside bathed with sweat, not the right place to conclude the transaction. Still, the place seems in a good mood. Meh, once again, I wonder what’s that grandgrand doing inside. Hmm, now when I think about it. The merchant before was referring grandgrand as someone who will likely helps me. Well, so far I get enough help from the amount of tools and materials there. But still, I doubt that’s what he meant by helping me. I do enjoy myself working here, and I have confidence that I will learn many things by spending my times working. Hmm, right, I need such optimism to continue working. I stand from the bench and return the empty bottle the shopkeeper, and then buy two more bottles of water. The shopkeeper was nodding gleefully when I stated my request. I put my left arm on the counter, turning my body to look back at the workplace. Hmm, the place somehow calmed down, maybe I can find an opening to slip in. I don’t think I will have enough time to wait until all customers gone. Still, my next task waiting for me. If I am not mistaken, the task will be. Iron Chain | Materials Required: 2 Unrefined Metal, 1 Old Quencher A small shackle of about 2 feet in length, made from metal and designed by Blacksmith Capone. It is considered an accessory and can be fastened to a weapon or shield to allow it to be quickly retrieved if knocked to the ground. Some also use it for the sake of extending the range of their melee attacks to midrange. It's said that there is a fighting technique where the fighter wears a chain on each of their limbs, allowing for the chains to act as auxiliary yet minor damage dealers whenever their attacks don't reach far enough. Its sturdiness depends on the level of the materials used to make it. |
Hmm, I can imagine what kind of plan I have to make it, but I need to prepare all of tools and material first. I put the bottles in my inventory, and take my leave. It was hot day and nobody around the street as far I can see. There may be inside some pubs or restaurant right now, or just find a calm place to chat like customers inside our workshop. I take a quick look from the window, still so many customers inside. Some of Lander girls are looking at me, then whisper with each other. From the end of room, I can see the furnace room still opened to the backyard. I am walking through the side of building. I can faintly hear the sound of girly giggles from inside, and just ignore it. Yep, whatever they say won’t have anything to do with me. I have my job to do, and won’t leave until I finish it, such is my determination to improve my skill. Customers need my skill, not my appearance. I take a quick look on nearby buildings where I am at the side. This area is so cramped. Wall against wall, fence again fence, I am not used to see so many fence except when I was in a farm. To limit wild animal for destroying our plantation, because we cannot always prevent them to follow their instincts. So, what people trying to prevent by putting tall fence around them, to protect what. Hmm, maybe they are just like me in a sense of mistrust. Although, in my village, we know each other traits and background so deeply, allowing anyone who want to visit and socialize. I scratch the back of my right ear when I remember that, reminding me to not doodling any nostalgic feeling inside my head when I am about to focus on my job. Sure, it’s good but you know, I need something in my control to bring me back to reality. Like today, when the job is about to make a craft with such detail. Well, not that detail, but a chain with different form for each of its part will looks weird, and giving the image on how lazy the crafter was.
I slip through back door only to find the place rather empty. Most of customers crowded around the counter, or near entrance. The heat has pushed them to move away, avoiding the furnace. Hmm, wait a minute, the furnace is still on. I remember to lit it off before leaving, to save the coals. If it was not me then… I turn my head toward the owner. He is still busy talking with customers. Then, he notice me, and throw a quick blink. Wut the fu…!! I hold myself to not instinctively throw something nearby. I am glad he ignore me afterward and continue talking. Meh, don’t give me such weird shiver grandgrand. I check the heat inside furnace. Yep, won’t have to wait for long before the heat enough. I shove some coals inside and lit the fire, let it heated until I can use it. Working with furnace in this weather is meh. That’s why I bought some extra water from the shop. Even I found myself more durable in this world, I still don’t know what will happen if I overexert myself. It’s best to prepare the precaution. At least, when I will really feel thirsty, there is something to grab. Although I still prefer juices or soda, my eyes were already fixated to the bottle of water at that shop. I don’t know why, I myself prefer something cold and sweet. Hmm, milk with ice, milkshake! Oh yesh… shaky shaky… and cold, dayummm… ah, I need to take a stroll when I off again. So I can find suitable place to take a break and enjoy fresh drink. Ah, just thinking about it make me thirsty. Nonononono… break time is over, now is the time to go back to work. I go to material storage to find a suitable material for this task. There is so much selection, and I am still amazed whenever I take a look inside this room. Let see, there is long cylindrical metals similar to real world, when we make iron fence. It’s easy to use, since we only need to cut it bit by bit depends on the need, then heating it to make deform into the shape we need. However for some reason, I take the usual two unrefined metals I recognize and bring it back to furnace room. This time the material is quite big and heavy, I am glad I have leveled quite a bit for these days so I can lift it quite easily. I realize several days ago that our stats give major influence in our daily live, although when facing characters or monsters everything will still somewhat gauged by HP and MP bar. It will handy in time like this, I won’t need to bring a chart or something only to lift a material this heavy. I can still move and have full control of my movement. I am back to furnace room, only to forget to bring along the quenching liquid. Meh, again, I need to be careful next time. I put both metals inside the container and let it burned inside furnace, before rushing back to the storage room. The air somewhat warm since back wall opened. Yep wall, it was a collection of wooden planks arranged side by side on each other. It will give an impression of a wall when it’s not opened, makes a flexible arrangement for the wall to be open or closed depend on the need. Moreover if the day is so hot like this, someone will need a breeze and closed room won’t help. Come to think about it, that maybe the reason there are many customers here, crowding inside a calm place protected from the sun blaze. Waiting for the weather become more friendly, then continue moving to their destination. Meh, grandgrand, who know a blacksmith workplace will be such customer trap. If it was me, I may also open a bar inside. Then again, I can’t cook or brew delicious things in this world. What I can contribute maybe this blacksmith skill, while I still in learning process to try to cope with this world crafting mechanic. I am waiting for the metals to melt, before continue to the next step.

I take a sit on a nearby chair. It was an old comfortable wooden chair like in old movies. Not outdated like the real one, but still gives the vibe of being one. After all it was built in this era, assuming Elder Tale was a game with middle age setting. The handler was smoothly polished, and the back curved smartly to hold a tiring body. I wonder who made this, he must have enough level in woodcrafter subclass, or it was artisan subclass? I don’t know. It’s like my blacksmith skill, and all other crafting subclass skills. If you want to make decent craft in this world, you need sufficient level to do so. Like my recent accessory craft for example, the effect is depend on my blacksmith class, and I can’t make higher or complex craft and its complex effect if the craft subclass level requirement is not sufficient. I have learned so much information these days, either by working or watching around. Now, I am pretty much understood if someone talking about crafting mechanic, for example this wooden chair. With this much details, good selection of materials, and sturdiness, the one who made it sure have dependable level of crafting skills. Hmm… maybe grandgrand know something. Well, I am a little curious about it. I lean my back and relax, enjoy my time while waiting for the metal to melt inside the furnace.
(Yawn) hmm…? somehow, I feel so much space around me, so I take a look. The crowd has moved out one by one, leaving the workshop. I caught the owner still busy talking with one of Lander girl, and the topic is… wuuuut!?! Meh, anyone has its own way to lure the customer. Well, as long as it won’t cause any harm to anybody. I just being myself in this corner, learning to craft. I capture the moment when a Lander girl from before peeking behind the shelves, her eyes dazzling with curiosity, then she just continue walking out of the place. Meh, what now, am I have to handle that one too, although it’s not my habit to take a move. Well, recent occurrence not counts, ahem. I just hope I won’t cause unnecessary uproar while I am still busy leveling my character, where I need all the help I can find. Making an enemy is not an option. It’s true however, I can’t avoid if someone decides to hate me, everyone have their own freedom to decides. I have experienced it before in real life, when people spoken ill behind my back. I just say, hmm...? so that’s how they describe me. Neither of us opens to each other, so it was normal if speculation and assumption grown wildly among us. I just being honest with myself and standing on my two feet as usual. No heavy feelings, or rejections, I just look at them from the same level. Like when I watch these Landers in my new daily live here. Not all of them are buyers, some of them just looking around, and some of them just using the place to hide from sun blaze. Whatever they do now, I don’t detect any ill meaning behind it. The light is so strong and hot, I doubt if there will be someone lurking outside. Hmm, this place still confuses me with a town. Even with all the green colors around, I still not used with all limitation by the walls and other built structures. I still found myself more relaxed when surrounded by trees, huge and old trees, it’s like calming protection. The way it is now, it more like a cluster of caves with hive-like holes all around it, to makes one connection from one point to another. Sometimes, it gives me strange feeling like being trapped under giant piles of stone. Of course, I felt much comfortable around wooden furniture like this.
I am looking at the container from a small window on the furnace’s cover, trying to gauge the heat and find the sign if it’s ready, hmm… nope, not yet. I lean my head again, looking at ceiling, trying to relax myself from the heat even for moment, before I can start working with metal again. It’s kind of luxury to be able to relax in a chair, while others busy with their job. It’s not like I am slaking of, it just the way this job is. Also, I am not loafing. I just need to take a quick time cooling my head before working in front of the furnace again. The wind feels good, and the design of the wooden chair giving so much comfort on my back. Now I know why elders like to sit on this kind of chair. It feels somewhat natural and comfortable on the same time, so much harmonious with late noon breeze. (Yawn) why it’s so distracting when I am about to start a work, then again I need to cool my head so I can concentrate more on the job. But I still alert for simple task like this, keeping track if the metal melted or not. Hmm, seems like the heating is enough. I open the furnace to look how the progress inside it. Meh, still not completely melting, it’s not the right time to lift it. I close the furnace again and back to my chair. The amount of heating is different for each materials, I still cannot remember all of them in real world. Moreover in the world where everything seems like gauged by game mechanic’s physic like this, I doubt I can master it in short amount of time. I can find one or two players outside who struggle like me, but there are also players where they can handle everything with ease, concerning they have their knowledge about this game beforehand. I also found some players rather confused with this world, something about there is real world’s phenomenon that not happening as the way it usually was. Like when you expect a game where people behave like the game would be, but turned out behaving like something else. There are players that embrace the change, there are also players that stubborn with the old way of how they get something done. Hmm, I don’t know, I don’t think my ability to understand is my strong point. I just follow the flow and learn whatever this world decides for me. I will adapt and find a way to improve. I am burned with determination, but I hope I won’t melt like the metal inside furnace. Ah, seems the metal ready.
I take the container from the furnace and pour its content into the mold. It was medium sized cylindrical mold, a bit larger from the thickness of chain I want to make. It intended however, so when I work on to harden it, the metal still has enough thickness. Considering the metal is now in cooling process, I close the mold and waiting again on my chair. I open a bottle of water from my bag, and take a drink. Ah, the day is so hot, like I am in the middle of summer. Hmm, I wonder if there is snowy weather, must be good to have snow once a while. The coldness of breeze when I opening the door, the height of snows pilling on the street, the frozen lake, ah… all of that makes me want to go to snowy mountain again. Wait, I am not in real world, hrmppph (pouting). I still hope there is snowy weather here, might be the time to stock the beverages as much as I can, aw yeah… and find someone who can tailor a winter outfit. Meh, there are so much things to buy. I doubt my money is enough. I need to check my saving in bank after this done, and may not available for the job for two or more days, hunting the monsters. Hehehe, how you handle that grandgrand, will you lonely without me. (Wink!) Wut a damn, I don’t approve I have that memory inside me, I need something to make me forget. Woaaargh, that’s right, this world is based on weapon and magic, there may be someone who can makes that kind of potion. Hmm… maybe, I don’t know. Ah, that’s right, I need to check the mold. It’s cold enough, okay, I think it’s ready to go to the next phase. I take the cylindrical metal from the mold. Now, this step is time consuming, yet a process that I need to concentrate more on it. I hold the metal with pliers and burn the tip of it inside the furnace. After it heated enough, I sink it into the liquid, and let it cooled for moment before start shaping it. I take another pliers, measure the metal length as needed, then bend it. I return the metal frequently back into the furnace whenever I thought the metal lost its flexibility, and continue the shaping. The hammer in my hand slamming rhythmically as long as the process goes on, giving me the humming I need to hear. Yeah, there is no music everywhere whenever I want it. So, music becomes some kind of special entertainment here. Maybe if I can find a bard, it will be more relaxed place to rest. Ah, (scratch scratch) what I am doing again, this is not my place. Also, I don’t have any obligation to him other than by working here. No need for me to concern about this place’s fame, although I still make the goods as best as I can. I don’t know, maybe I just don’t feel attached yet, then again I handle and confrontation differently. Still, we are both concern about the same thing. Either the sale good or poor, when he saw how good the weapons on sale are, I can somehow capture the light of excitement inside his eyes. I also feel like that, that’s why somehow I can understand him. I hammer the metal with strength and hope. The metal has deformed into C shape, where one of its tail bended symmetrically, makes it like a half of O, while another tail is still connected to overall metal. I put the part of metal where I want to cut back to the furnace, sink it into the liquid again, and then put it on anvil. I take a chisel, positioning it, and then hammer it to the metal to the area where I heated it before. The metal has truncated, separated it from the rest. Now it was shaped like C with one of its tail bended out a little, it’s needed to connect it to the rest.

I continue the process for the rest of metal, bend and shape it with pliers and hammer, and then cut it so I can work for the rest. The metal has enough flexibility since I frequently heat it back inside the furnace. I am not concerned with my fatigue when I am at it. I don’t know, maybe this is one of advantage for being an adventurer, or I just forgot to take a rest with so much hype in my hand. The hammer itself felt so ease, I don’t feel too much strain in my arm when using it. A bottle of water still sit nicely inside my inventory, I didn't drink anything yet since the last one. Still, I don’t think I need to. Even the heat itself somewhat bearable, without touching directly to the redden part. Although I can still feel heat, confuses me with the real temperature outside without looking directly to the window. From the amount of light and pattern of sky, I guess is around afternoon already. Then this job may be the last one for today. I can start another task tomorrow, no need to rush. Come to think about it, I have done all the simple tasks. I wonder what can I do with my blacksmith level next. Like, something that helps me in battle against monster. Hmm, maybe I can ask around for information. There may be something I have missed, something related to my blacksmith subclass. Tch, I refuse to ask grandgrand, not as long as he still creeping me out. Learn your circumstance grandgrand! Ah, I think I have done with all of chain’s parts, now is the time to connect them all. I arrange all the part so I can choose any of them which I think well enough to connect on another. Looking all the parts together will ease the selection process. I take one part, hook it to another part, then burn the opened tail and bend it so it closed. I let the connected tails overlapped, then I make it connected with the same method. I let the other part’s tail still opened so I can hook it again with another. I repeat the process until all the part connected, and all the tails closed. Done, now this is a chain. Fiuhhh, now the task has done, I just need to put it on the goodies placement. I put a mark on the wallboard when I am at it.
Now my assignment for today is over, I want to report for my leave, but the owner is nowhere to be found, again? meh, isn’t this a shop. What if there is customer coming, doesn't he felt it rude abandoning the counter? Ugh, why I need to think about all this again, I am a blacksmith not a sales person. My job is done, so I will just leave. But, maybe… I need to wait for that grandgrand first. There is something bugging me while I am working these days, something I need to improve to catch up with what I need as adventurer. I take my time watching the collection of armors and weaponry on the wall. I never made a mail, or swords before, in real world. So, I don’t know the right method to make it. From what I see at these mails here, I can feel a sense of sturdiness with them, agile joints to ease the wearer to move around. There is also some equipment that only focuses to protect on certain area, and let the other areas vulnerable for incoming attack. Hmm, maybe it created like that to give the emphasis more on swiftness. Some of equipment even designed like a pile of lump irons. Really, that heavy, who can wear that kind of armor. Ah, that’s right, we adventurers get great boost from our stats. Moving around with that level of heaviness might be easier than I think. Hmm, from overall design, I might be able to create something similar, but I am not sure. I can imagine the method to shape the materials so they will be formed like armor, but is that enough. Considering the hardness of some plates and unique design that different than normal clothes where normal clothes only have been used to defend from weather, these armors designed to be able to protect the wearer against harsh condition in this world. These armors created for one who wants to fight monsters, not mere animals in real world. Ah, maybe just my mind exaggerating things again, but that’s how I think when I am looking at these armors.
There are also many selections of weapons, and most of them are swords and axes. There is also a large scythe, but I don’t know how to use that in battle. I am more interested in their sharpness and the difference in their useful design. There are also samurai, nodachi, kunai, even that Chinese ancient sword that so thin so the metal can be bended sideway. I am not sure how all of this variation came up in the first place. Maybe they try to cope up with adventurers? So, when adventurers grow, Landers also grow even with their horribly level cap. Yep, I also know about their level cap. Means, their growth is so much harsher than adventurers in case of level, and cannot past certain point where adventurers can easily grow more past them. So, I guess these weapon just low level replicas from the real one. However, a weapon is a weapon in sense of blacksmith from real world. The real matter is the knowledge how to make them. “So, now you interested in making weapon?” Wut the fu! Since when he gotten so close. I jump instinctively to the corner and prepare my stance, RawrRawr. “I think, now is the right time for me to teach you something” I lower my stance “you will?” he sit on the chair where I was before “now, how much you know about making armor?” “I… never made one before, nor some of weapons here” he squinted when listening to my confession, then just smirk “hrmph, then welcome to the world of blacksmith among the wars. You will be thankful because your first experience will be through me”

The hammer in my hand don’t stop from creating loud noise, echoing throughout building. I am alone right now, inside furnace room. I spent my times these days to create metal plates for armors. Grandgrand was the one who planned overall arrangement, and lately I know the one who plan the craft’s form and composition on wallboard was also him. No wonder he wasn’t surprised when he looked at my creation. Maybe he was thinking ‘oh, what a simple creation. You got long way to go before you can be in my level, hohohohoho’. Sigh, well whatever, in the end it was him who has decided to teach me creating weapons and armors. So, it’s not a bad thing. Since my original plan was to improve my crafting subclass. Wait, was I planned to learn one or two thing about the materials. Come to think about it, how many materials I have used so far. One, two, three, hmm not much. Was I came to the wrong place after all. Whatever, work is work, I can’t just abandon it.
I put the hammer down and try to cope the plate in my hand. Hmm good, now the wearer can bend his body without stabbing himself. Yep, it’s good. I put all the plates on the table in arrangement. I still need to tie them, but that can be done latter. Now, time off (Yawn).

When I was a child, it was my father who brought me to this world of heated metals. When I was grown up, it was his colleague who taught me different way of handling metals. When I was capable man, my fiends join along and like to experimenting things with me. If I have decided to only heard one person that time and just ignore others, I don’t think I will have this much knowledge as I am now. Maybe, I will become very strict person who only measure anything from that one source, and hurt others in the process. But, if I have this knowledge, I can explain to them why it will bring advantages. After all, it is an improvement. Like these days when I follow the advice from Grandgrand regarding metal plate for armor. If I kept complaining or reject completely to the process, there won’t be any armor I have successfully made.
Tying the plates together won’t be hard process. Grandgrand has reserved many leather clothing as placeholder from some tailors. It already had holes for placement. We can bind the plates with wires or rope or even using metal part as hook, depend on the need. I place the plate one by one on the leather to see if there is still plate that misfit. Then, I bring it back to the furnace and shape it. This was just normal method like when I made chain or screwdriver. Next process will be the detail. Some request also stating detail like carved banner, emblem, logo, or even just simple beautification like making large armor looks slim. I can do it with drawing line guide based on description, then followed by heating it and make other area sink more with chisel. Other way to do it is to prepare the detail piece beforehand, then connect it with the plate with heat. The fastest method I can think to mass produce detailed armor is by pouring melted materials on the mold, but I cannot find such mold that suitable for the request anywhere here. So, I just do it manually and hope it can be done faster than I expect.

I have done working on detail, now is the time to polish it. I take a rugged leather from nearby box, then start shoving it on the armor. Little by little the surface starts to smooth. Although not as fast as usual since I am not using modern lubricant. Sometimes, I try to use different oils I found in basement, testing their effect on metals. I am not an alchemist, so I don’t have the desire to research them. So far, I found one that give better result, which is what I use now. Not easy, but also not too hard, just another recurring process that usually makes adventurous people easily giving up. Me? I don’t need to think too much about it, so I will do fine. The plate itself have been bent carefully, no overusing of hammer in certain area. The edge has smoothed so it won’t cut the wearer skin by accident. Even in the back, where the tying applied. The smoothing needs to be applied thoroughly. Sometimes, I flip the plate so I can work on certain area. There is no rush, just an attempt to enjoy it. The metal however, won’t go anywhere even I left it, since it’s not a living being. I can just take a rest then continue later. Ah, that was just a maxim from my village, means take time to see in detail rather is better than try to swiftly rushing, although both are conditional. I still lean on those words since I grow with them.
The polishing is about to finish. I change the leather with dry rag to clean up all the leftover, shoving it all over the surfaces. Hmmmh… whenever I come to this stage, it’s like all my tire and whine just poof along to the air. What left is only joy and pride, where I finally able to leave the furnace room with ease, and I don’t have to be concerned when I try to sleep. Meh, all is done, I put the armor on the counter where the owner usually waiting, check out the furnace if it still on and light out the lamp. Then, I go thorough back door back to my sleeping tree in the forest.

Back to work again. Nothing significantly changes from yesterday, except the variance of armors I have to work with. There are still some requests piled up on wallboard, crying for deadline. In my hand is an armor with shoulder protection, and I am currently shaping on the detail. The design this time is so flashy, like paladin suit I saw from movies. White and shine like giving a saint aura, also the beauty hides its sturdiness easily. Grangrand was the one who done the most of work. I am in charge of giving a form on it and keeping the furnace heat as requested. Other than that, I am just watching the grandgrand and listen to his rambling, trying to learn a thing or two. Yeah, more like being criticized rather than lectured, since I cannot cope it with my study if I am not arrange the information by myself. Still, I am glad because I can hear about many new things that I may not able to get it from the information I gather on the streets. Such many knowledge they have. Maybe the pressure from fighting for so long with the monsters giving them so many idea about weaponry. Also, I always heard about this ancient technology that kept being mentioned whenever I try to search about the origin of technology and history. For now I just ignore it since it sounds more like a lore rather than research that help me to improve myself or finding the way out. So, information from grandgrand is my best source for now, that’s why I press my concentration up and try to solve these puzzles he throws to me as best as I can.
Oh, the owner is out by the way. I am with myself, finishing the work. I go back and forth from the anvil and the model, keeping the detail to connect on each other pieces. The only loud sound in this building is from my hammer, since I am alone here. Well as they say ‘when you love your work, you will forget about your surrounding’, this is exactly what I feel right now, also that was what I felt since the start of this armor making. Then, the world suddenly brought back to me when I finish my work. Hmm, looks like I have finished the shaping. Next, polishing lalalala. I stand and walk to where I put the rugged leather before, but I cannot find it. Sigh, must be that grandgrand doing, considering he sometimes intentionally puts a prank on me. I mumbled and let out a little sigh again, before start looking the rugged leather around. I check inside the box, nothing. I check under the shelves, nothing. I searched around his counter, also nothing. Meh, where is it. I keep looking.

I found myself idling on one spot for some moments, trying to figure out where that damn grandgrand hides the rugged leather. What’s the deal this time? It’s not that he has any purpose other than self-satisfaction. I don’t see any reason for him to do so other than just to irk me. Meh, what a strange fellow in a strange world. I slide it off as usual and just do my work, and since his purpose not to meddle with my work, then I am fine. However, there is time like this when he just do as he as he wishes and not bother with other’s feel. I can count it as one of hundreds occurrences when he about to struck with his antic, and when that happens I just try to focus on work so I can being productive as usual and not bother with it. I keep searching on any possible location where a rugged leather can be, whether it on the shelves, around the equipment, or corners of room, but I still cannot find it. I scratch my back head and let out long sigh, pondering how such a small tool that’s very important to continue the work now lost. I decide to take a sit and whine by myself, and then I feel something stuck beside me. The rugged leather was inside my pocket all along? Meh, and I thought it was one of that grandgrand’s prank.
I reach my pocket and pull out the rag, and start working on the armor again. Sigh, and here I am with my negative thinking, being leery about all the bad things happened because of that grandgrand. It’s not my fault, that grandgrand is too suspicious with all of his plans and schemes. I don’t think I can trust him easily. However, he is quite skillful and know about a lot of things that I don’t know yet. I am sure I can learn many things only by looking at him. Of course, I still need to do the election about information by myself, since almost all things that come out from his mouth are just rambling, like an old man who left alone by himself for long times. Really, when I think about it, sometimes I thought maybe he is just feeling lonely and want to connect with someone to feel comfort.
“Kid” now what, I just start to feel comfort around him and he just popped out from nowhere again. “Meh, what is it grangrand. I am almost finish” there is some parts that not yet polished, “ouchie, don’t be like that” (poke) wuttha! I jump instinctively to the corner and ready to throw the armor on my hands. “Khekhekhe, don’t be like that” I still stand firm “you are creeping me old man, don’t come near me!” but he ignores me and instead pull the chair and sits on it “kid, I think this is the time?” “the time? hold on…” I shove the rest of armor to finish the polishing and hand it to him. “Yeah, you should start making weapon by tomorrow”

So, tomorrow he said, and tomorrow means today! Yay. The air seems so light when I jump around on my way to the workshop. I don’t even realize any people I have passed on my way there. I can only guess one or two person, but other than that, I just let it loose, since there is something more important right now. Yeah, I feel so determined. Today I may finally become a full fledge blacksmith, yay. I cannot think about anything else with this much hype in my chest. I mean, not a blacksmith with medal or certificate or whatever. By finally able to create a real weapon is like one of greatest achievement. Moreover in the world where weapons are absolute need for fighting monster like this, I can count this as my contribution for all players who also trapped in this world. I have exercised a little with my arms this morning. It just my usual habit in real life to relaxing my muscles before doing heavy things, and it still can gives more confidence for me to face an oncoming event. Hmm, what should I make anyway since this will be my first time creating a weapon by myself, in other words, my own creation. I want to make it as something big that giving awesome advantage for awesome player. Hmm, awesome player… a ninja… shuriken? A big shuriken hell ya! A shuriken that big so most of player’s shadows will covered by it when he hang the weapon on his shoulder, mwahahahaha. Yeah, I will make it.
Bam! “Good morning grandgrand! I have decided, I will make…” “you will make a sword and that is final” “what!” “sit down” “ok…” I take a sit on the floor when he pull a large parchment and shows it to me “you will make this” the parchment has opened and part of it is still rolling on the floor. “whooaaa…” I take the part of parchment and pull it for closer look. It’s not that much of description, just a picture and the materials needed for it. I wonder why it needed to be drawn whit its actual size. So, a long sword eh. I shove my back head in awe and try to figure out the best methods from what I know to create it, taking a look past these days when I watched grandgrand in his work like finding answer for an exam. Yeah, seems like I can make it if I apply my knowledge on it. I look at grandgrand and just nod in agreement, while he just smirks and gives me one wave with his hand. “This time I won’t help you kid. You must able to do it by yourself” he said that while walking to his usual spot behind counter. As expected I will make it alone, so instead giving out a whine I just walk to the wall board in enthusiasm. “Alright!” I fold the parchment messily so I can take a look at it whenever I want, and put it on nearest surface. I relax my fingers before fold them in a punch then hit my other palm with it. I am ready. So, today recipe will be. Beginner Equipment | Materials Required: 1 Unrefined Metal, 1 Basic Coal, 1 Old Quencher A simple metal weapon or armor forged by fledgling blacksmiths. It is crafted from basic materials and isn't that much better than an equivalent beginner item, but it's a start. The Blacksmith that crafts this item may rewrite its name and description. Additionally, a Beginner Equipment can be upgraded to a higher level by performing a Equipment craft with the item in question replacing the Unrefined Metal. |
I am heading toward the storage room, but a voice stopped me. “You may want to use that” he points toward piles of scrap. There is something different there. Something big, and hidden under a piece of large cloth. I pull the cloth to reveal what behind it and found an over largely piece of metal. I just stunned for moment and amazed by my finding. How the hell I can melt this, it’s even larger than the furnace. I look at the owner but he ignores me. Sigh, I lift the material and move it near the furnace. This kind of work will take days to complete, since I can only work piece per piece of the material and I cannot guarantee the distribution of hardness will be smooth, since the cooling process will be hard. So, except I can find of something that have extreme heating with good air cycle system similar to furnace, but also big enough to contain the material in this size, I think I may stuck with slow forging process for a while. Yeah, it’s not the time to give up since I have prepared so much for this event. What ever hardships will be, I should try to pass through it. If I just whine over this much of problems, I don’t think I can improve in this trial. I lift the material while still thinking about possible way to make it into weapon as requested. Hmm, come to think about it, there are two furnaces in this room, and I never look into the other furnace. Now I wonder what this furnace capable of. So I open the furnace “Whoaa” I can’t help but amazed to what I see. Compared to its outer appearance, the furnace has built large enough and has long small tunnel inside, enough to contain the material in my hand. “Oh so here is where you usually create long swords eh?” I put my hand inside to feel the interior and temperature. I don’t know if grandgrand answers my previous question or not, since I am too amazed and have drowned into my own mind, thinking the steps I can take with this new convenience tool. Then, I start shoving in some coals and light them and waiting for the large furnace to heated. Now, the rest is how to handle the material. I tap my fingers on some area, trying to figure out the hardness. This material is big enough and the length is about right. Now, I just need to shape and firm it. The hook should be about this big and it will be enough to be warped by the handler, also ease for the future user to hold it. the spread will be in semi triangular curve so it won’t be broken by the heaviness of main part of sword. That’s enough for the hardness inside, what left will be the outer design to handle the fractions in battle. Hmmph, how do I know I have this much enthusiasm to think such design. After all, this will be my first sword to make. I can’t help but enjoy the hype of my first experience. The rest will be procedural. When the heating is done, then it will be about time to start working.

The heat is about ready when I finished arranging the anvils in front of furnace. It’s work time. I use all three anvils for the holder so the hammering process can be handled with ease. Also, I have prepared a rather large pliers recommended by grandgrand, so I can pull the material out when it heated enough. It’s not easy to grip the material this big and heavy, moreover when it reaches the designated temperature later, will be hard for me to endure the direct heat. With this kind of pliers, I need to use both hand to utilize each handlers, but I can switch to one hand when the pliers already griping the material. Yes, I think I can do that. However in this phase, I don’t need to use it yet. Since the phase I am working on now is just needing a small part from overall material. I start with the handler, or just as hook in current phase, by putting about 1/7 part of the material into furnace. Now, waiting time again. I use the time to think and prepare for the following process. Next, I need to find a large basin to contain the liquid and enough for the material to sink in. There must be at least one, since grandgrand has ever made long swords before. Yeah, there must be. Hmm, where is it. While shoving my shoulder, I try to guess where he likely puts it. I have go back and forth to the storage room before, but I never spot anything like that. Strange, although I never see grandgrand using it before, there should be something like that somewhere in this workshop. I turn my head toward the owner and found him currently chatting with a customer. Oh, there is a customer? I don’t remember if there is someone entered the place. I caught myself staring a bit long and causing both of them turning their face on me. Wait, is she that girl from before? I thought she is, since I bit remember when she took a peek on me before she left. She is quite beautiful, along with her dressing and somewhat cheerful expression. Her eyes faintly hidden behind her curly hair. The girl forcing a smile toward me before she continues talking with grandgrand again. Ah, am I imagining things, I don’t know. My mind telling me that was just her way to express politeness. There is no deep meaning or anything as expected for the continuation about her shady behavior on the other day, which somewhat sadden me. A moment of pause brings me back to my sense and remind me to continue searching around the place.
Sigh, how hard it is to find something as large as basin. I thought I will immediately spotted something when I see around the tools and the backyard, but nothing come in the shape or function as basin I found there. I almost give up and just about in my way to ask it directly to grandgrand. Then I spot a rather strange stoned surface near the furnace, it has a wooden plate for it cover. Sneaky… as I expected before opening it, there is a rather large hole inside that giving me the idea of a basin along with the quenching oil filling it. Although some of the liquid has evaporated a little, so I pour more liquid from the bucket I have used these days, and then stir it until a little bit more viscous. I wonder, how long the last time grandgrand using it. I never see him using these equipment since I work here, which makes me surprised when discovering the function of the second furnace. There should be times in the past when grandgrand actively using it. I can see some long swords hanging nicely behind the counter even now, and still admiring their design. I wonder if I can make something as good as them, since this is my first time creating an actual weapon. Hmm, I think I should be more positive and believe with all experiences I have in making metalwork until now. I can realize my plan. With this determination pushing me, I grip my palm. I find the temperature kind of hotter, so I take a look inside furnace. Yeah, I think it’s enough. I pull out the metal with my hand while it covered with a rugged leather, since the material already large enough and I have somewhat slight tolerance against heat. So, for this moments, I can bear it. I start hammering when the heated part already positioned on the anvil, and little by little shaping it to the form of a handler. I keep hammering until it will becomes more cylindrical and easy enough to grip, without sacrificing its firmness in design. I return the part I am working on back to furnace occasionally to retain its flexibility. This work is way longer than my previous works. To shape a material this big, I need more times and endurance than usual. The thought of making my first weapon keep pushing me up, so I can still force my arms to work. Even when I thought I don’t want to continue working on it, I still somewhat retain my determination. Time passed as I continue the recurring process, heating and hammering it again and again until I get the shape close to what have planned. After it shaped enough, I start adding more hardness on the joint between the handler and main part of the sword using the scraps and applying the liquid on it as quick cooling. Then, repeating the recurring process with the addition of cooling. I keep hammering until I get the form as planned. This time, the process won’t take as much time as before. Although I should double the concentration since I am working on detail. More or less, I am in the same difficultness.
Then, after the creation for the handler done, it’s the time for the main part. Without too much pause, I flip the material and put the other side inside furnace, excluding the handler part.

This part is much larger in proportion rather than what I previously worked on, which is somewhat mental killing if I didn’t enjoy the progress so far. I have put so much thought on the creation of this weapon, so my hope is what giving me passion to continue so far. Although it doesn’t really a matter actually. If I just think about it, I come here to level my blacksmith subclass and boosting my knowledge about any support I can use to improve the subclass. I was only planned to know more about materials and how to use it in actual forging by working here, but it turned out I learn more about the forging itself. Hmm, maybe I can ask grandgrand for specific information later. For now, I just continue forging, since it also can be counted as practical learning for me, and it does help me improving. From someone who used to make basic production tools to be able to create a sword, even in essence of pure experience I feel I have improved, and I still want to improve more. I believe I can do that if I keep pushing myself in this place. Ah, seems like the heating is enough. I take big pliers that I have previously prepared to pull out the material by pinning it on the joint of handler and main part. I pull the material out of the furnace, positioning it so all the heated part is out and now laid on the anvils. I switch to one-handed grip mode for the pliers, because both handlers of the pliers are now within my fingers reach. I start hammering the center of material, forming it all the way to the end to be more flatten, while still focus on positioning it with pliers so there will be always be an anvil under the material in the direction I hit with hammer. I flip the material occasionally by putting down the hammer, hold the pliers with both hand, positioning the tip of material so half of the weight focused there, and then put a circle movement on pliers to flip the material. I shift the material to be positioned properly before start hammering again. This may be the longest recurring process I have done so far. Surely, this material is so big. Now that I can actually imagine the size when it flattened, it sure big. I thought my bros and me would get addicted in making something like this, if we can find the material this big in real world. Yeah, here something like that needed. Since there is many kind and form of weapon, I thought it won’t be hard to encounter something this size of material. Hmm, I don’t think I need to split my concentration about the origin like that now. I just need to hammer this thing to be flatten and continue for the next process.
After a lot of time passed, the center has flattened and it becomes more like a piece of thick board. It’s now the time to work on edges. I put the material back to the furnace, excluding the handler part as usual. Now the center of sword is ready. I can start to apply the liquid for quick cooling process and for hardening. This phase is more consuming time than the previous, since there is several sub procedures that I need to go through in it. Moreover with the size that I need to work on, by only looking on it I may guess it take forever to complete. Well, it may take several days actually with proper equipment, and I guess it can be done in several hours with adventurer’s advantage. I sip the bottle of water I have took previously from my inventory, and eating the usual untasteful bread. Nyeh, I need energy to go on. That make me wonder, how long have been passed since I start the work. It must be long, since I start to starve. I enjoy the quick rest for a while. Then, after enough times passed, I pull out the material with pliers as usual. Then switch back to one-handed grip for the pliers, taking a hold on the handler part of material using leather cloth as protection against heat, and lift the material then sink it to the liquid. A faint sound and steam bring me back to my sense, out of my working mode. I put a smile, thinking how long I have kept working while unaware with my surrounding. I put the material back to anvils so I can shape the basic sharp form for the edge with hammering. Ah, I thought I need my working mode again since this phase will also take so much time. I need to work on both sides. From the tip near the handler to the far tip of the material, then back to the other tip on the opposite side near handler, which is double the size in sense. I hammering the far tip of material so it formed like triangular shape, hammering the obsolete cripples on the blunt sides to be more flat like the rest of the surface, and then sharpening the edge using the same methods like others edge.
Time passed as I concentrate to work on the edge. And now it finished. Although still not finished overall. I still need to sharpen the edge manually, since I don’t think using the usual method to sharpen this sword is less effective. So, I lift the grinder, hold the sword with my foot, and start grinding the edge to sharpen it. Hmm, this phase doesn’t require heat. So, I turn the furnace off by arranging the coals inside until there is no more redden coal around. Then, continue grinding. Grinding like no tomorrow. Grinding from one part to next part. Flipping the sword so I can work on the other side too. “Oooh!” finally… this is… my first hand-made weapon… I can’t believe it! I take my time admiring the sword in my hand. “Since you are still here, you may as well put it in the corner” what! “but… I made this” the grandgrand squints at me and talking casually “you can have it if you pay” wut! “I will give you discount” meh, my mind too tired thinking all of this. I just gone thorough hell and then… and then… arrrgh, I just wave my arm and go back to the forest.

Smh, now I hate that grandgrand. That thing is so damn my creation, and I can’t lay my had on it. “Heeeh” I let out long breath and continue hammering the material. I am still at my assignment for today, and this time is just a simple knife. Well, actually it is an army knife like what shown in old movies, which made me smile. Sometimes there are people who left unique request like that, maybe adventurers. I don’t mind. Since, the more variations I need to create, the more experiences I will get from it. It will be helpful when I try to make new invention. Hmm, invention. Ah, that’s right, so far I don’t ever think about making some kind of invention. There should be many things I can do considering the fact from what I see around the street, the evolution gap between this world and reality is somewhat far, and I think there are still many adventurers in this world that can’t live without their usual supporting tool for daily lives. Hmm, now that I think about that, what should I make.
I return the material back to the furnace using normal pliers, take my time to arrange the coals inside. A leak of smoke attacking my nose in surprise, make it a little tingled. Meh, there should be blocking somewhere inside the furnace tunnel. It should be that time for it to go through maintenance. I shove my fury nose and continue the work. The job today is not as hard as the previous day. Yeah, how can I compare the process of making a small knife to that damn huge sword. That thing is sure damn time consuming. I even surprise I can still stand today. Heh, seems like I can do my job today with a little more relaxed, since I have used to work in more difficult condition. I take my time looking around the counter. There is grandgrand sitting as usual behind his lovely counter, and my damn sword in the corner. Around them are the usual customers. There are two of them, and one of them is the girl I saw yesterday. She notices me as usual, and smile. I smile back to her and continue the hammering process. At least I don’t ignore her like yesterday, that’s what I think. The hardening part distracting me. I focus on getting symmetrical sharpness and didn’t realize when the owner already beside me. “Dozing off again?” tch, now he ‘teleported’ again? “the knife is almost done” I said it to him nonchalantly. Surprisingly, he is just being silent, looking at my work. I take the grinder and start grinding the knife, and take my time looking at him from the corner of my eyes. Hmm? in this distance, he looks so old. I can even guess his actual age, which is surprise me. “Hmph? What about it kid?” he ask me in sudden and caught me off guard. I quickly looking back at the knife in my hand. “Just so you know that furnace tunnel is in need for cleaning” I tried to said that in normal tone. He just smirk and pat my back “you, help me cleaning it this afternoon” meh “and prepare to create a mold tomorrow”

So, a mold. I never made one in real life, although I have seen someone made it before. To think I will get my first experience making it in this world, I can’t help but think this is an opportunity I cannot miss. Yeah sure, and this is all happened because I volunteer to work here, so I have access for these tools as long as I make something as requested and so make the shop run. I cross my arms and stand quietly in front of the furnace, thinking about how I should create such mold. Nyeh, I don’t think I can understand anything if I keep being passive in this spot. It’s better to start making things to see how it works. Of course grandgrand left me doing it in my way as usual. I bet he is observing me from his usual spot, although it’s not shown on his expression.
Using metal, means what I make will be similar to a permanent mold in real life. Although I think it’s better to use special sand, dirt, or stone to create a mold for metal, so the designated craft won’t be merged with the mold. Using metal as mold is usually for crafting lesser metal such as aluminum. So, maybe the secret will be in the uniqueness material in this world. Grandgrand introduces me to a different kind of unrefined metal. From his rough explanation, I cannot help but think it is similar to grey cast iron in real world, which is known for its durability against sudden heat. It will ease the molding process, so the mold won’t merge with the heated metal liquid during the process. Of course, the user must keep the process’s timing in check, so the mold will be opened at the right time. In real world, I have seen a worker using special sand to create smooth cooking utensil, with stone or bricks for the base. He needs to retain the sand firmness to keep its form, so it won’t destroy the inner structure. Then, cope it with another firmed sand and close the mold. The inner chamber created by two surfaces will retain its hollowness as long as the sand particles still stick on each other. After that, the heated liquid metal can be poured from the only hole connected to inner chamber to create the designated utensil. With our traditional technology, he needs to reshape the sand after using it several time. Although there is already more handy sand based mold created somewhere in real world.
I prepare the weapon needed for copy and start planning the shape of inner chamber. There should be enough room to contain the heated liquid metal inside it. I check the craft requirement again. Beginner Equipment Mold | Materials Required: 2 Unrefined Metal, 1 Basic Coal A recipe by Blacksmith Tenkai. The Blacksmith creates a mold of an equipment design in order to streamline the process taken to perform a craft. This allows the Blacksmith to create multiple types of the same equipment in a shorter period of time. When this item is crafted, the Blacksmith must choose either Weapon or Armor to be made into a mold. |
I start by melting the metal with usual process, by putting it inside the container and let it melt inside blazing furnace. I take my time arranging the base model, so the heated liquid metal can be poured in it. Yes, in rough look, it would be reverse molding, creating a mold using another mold with higher heat durability, which is dirt. This special dirt has been separated from rocks, trashes or any small organism inside, so it won’t create any unused scratch on the material, when it cooled. It will gives more work for me to smoothen it later, with no other use rather than being hassle. Also, shaping this dirt shouldn’t be hard, since I only need to press the weapon on it as detail. With that, I start shaping the dirt, so it can contain any square shaped thing a bit larger than the material. This will serve as overall base for the mold. The shaped dirt separated inside two wooden container, so I can work on both sides of mold effectively. I make several holes on it for the tunnel to pour the heated liquid metal later before leave both square-shaped dirt inside two containers for now, and then start working on making model. I prepare another block of dirt larger than weapon inside the new two stacked square wooden containers, creating a small half tunnel on the dirt, then press the side of weapon on it so it holed in the shape of half weapon, then I apply the powder on it. After that, I pile more dirt on it so it reach the full volume of the container. I shove the surface for more flatten shape, then flip overall container. I remove half of the container along with the dirt with it. With the powder applied, the dirt won’t be easily stick with another dirt placed on it. So, it leave half of the dirt with the shape of weapon. Yep, with this, I just need to make another similar block, and the dirt mold for the metal will almost ready. Well, I think it won’t be as hard as it seems, since the man I saw making similar thing doesn’t use too much time. So, I just push myself working on it while thinking that, just repeat the shaping, pressing, flattening, and applying powder. After both block ready, I arrange them side by side before start closing them. I take two shaped dirt I have prepared before, applying powder on them, and then flip it so it cope with both dirt shaped model. Now, both look like two square-shaped dirt inside wooden container, with several holes on them. Although there are two hollow chambers inside both of them with the shape of modeled weapon. Huft, how long I used the time for making them. Eh, the metal should have been in liquid form now. I take the material container from the furnace after all materials inside it have become liquid, then I pour both liquid from the holes evenly. Then, taking a rest while waiting the mold solidified. This should time.
I lay my back on nearest wall and materialize a bottle of water and untasteful bread from my inventory, taking rest while looking at the counter area. Seems like not much people this time. I don’t see the usual couple, their friends, or that lady. There is only grangrand chatting with a rather old person. Well, she is younger compared to him. Are they talking about the weather, kids, foods, or weapons? Are they relative? Which I don’t care. I take a look at the mold, and found it have solidified. Hmm, I think this is enough. I start crippling the dirt to remove it, leaving two part of metallic mold in it. Then, I start breaking the extra metal created by the tunnel with hammer and grind in smooth. Well, I think it should be left alone to be more cooled, even though it already has solidified. Maybe sometime later before it ready for use. I put the mold on the table, then start working on another request.

It doesn’t suppose to take so much time to work for the next request, or so I thought. This time, I should take care to do maintenance for someone’s axe. A rather large axe, with bruises all over the place, which somewhat contrast with its build. The hilt is rather simple, just a smooth cylindrical thick metal with blunt ornaments on its both ends, thrusting thorough a large thick metallic head with one sharpened edge, curved on the upper side and bottom side. A rather common built I have seen on some cartoon in real life, which is why I got confused on how to repair it, since I don’t know common material used for each part. The furnace is still on, and the day is still hot. The mold I have made before sits nicely on the table. I take a look at grandgrand direction and expect some attention, but I know it’s not the right time to do that, which I have expected it would turn me down even before doing it. He is still busy talking with possible customers. Well, I know, not all people here usually buy anything, maybe one or two per several days, but it always nice to talk with someone and express the honesty, so people may acknowledge that. Yeah, I can guess what is grandgrand currently doing, and that will be another reason for me to not bother him. Meh, it will be easy if I just blend with people there, casually talking and make my way to question him directly, but I think I can’t do that now. My mind circling around the thought of them being strangers, and so grandgrand looks like stranger among strangers, I don’t think meddling with other’s business will be appropriate.
I take my time trying to retrace the creation of the weapon. The hilt is smooth and long. Hmm, I can make it with molding. But, the hilt is also rather firm and strong, so maybe it won’t enough with just that. The head also, is big and firm. Hmm, I can make that, but these details on it, seems like some kind of strange pattern. Maybe, just maybe, is there some meaning behind it? I scratch my head in confusion, while holding the axe in one hand, changing its position left and right. I look at the other weapons on the nearest shelf, trying to see if there is similarity. Like some kind of pattern or firmness or sound when I tap on it, which will give a sign of something like the variation or rather uniqueness from metals classification in this world. I don’t know. The more I think about it, the more I stuck at the dead end. There are similarities at some points, but just that is. Something I can’t explain surrounding it. Like, what is this ‘effect’ thing displayed at some point when I check the weapon with menu. So far, I thought it is some kind of advantage granted for the axe user, which make me confused on how to ‘add’ it into the weapon. As someone who has been being blacksmith for some times, I cannot decrypt the requirement or process to ‘add’ such thing into the metal. Is there some kind of trick to obtain it? Like is there some secret behind the sparks? Now that I think about it, the accessory I have made before does have such thing called ‘effect’ on its status. There should be something I have done back then to trigger the creation of effect, but, I don’t know what it was.
“Hey kid!” grandgrand’s voice shocking me. He throws some kind of metal toward me, which I can catch with relative ease. “Use that” he said it while continue his conversation with the customer. There was a sudden shock among the crowd there when the grandgrand shouting at me, which immediately drew their attention toward me, but it calmed down when the owner start talking with them again. I shift my gaze to the material, smiling, thanking the grandgrand without voicing it. Then, back into working mode again. Now that I have same material, the fix will be easier since I just need to apply part per part of the material for each scratch. I still need to apply the heating on weapon but only so the material will blend with main body. Or else, I will just accidentally reshape into something thinner, or bigger, or even become different thing than it was before. I start by heating the material, which is already shaped like a thick wire, then heating the part of weapon I need to apply it, then hammering the material to blend. After enough blended, I use the heating and hammering to cut it from the rest of material, so I can apply it for other scratches. Rinse and repeat for other scratches until all the scratches filled. Then, I start semi procedure similar to when I create the weapon, but only focus on smoothing the hilt part, shaping the head and apply quick cooling for more firmness, and grind the head to be sharpened like the rest. After several times, I think I have finished repairing it. Hmm, not that much of work since it already has its base and design, so I just need to follow them. (Yawn) The cold breeze from outside is telling me that the day has changed. So, my assignment for today has finished. It took me some times to relaxing my mind and my body, thinking about everything I have passed until this point. My furs swaying as the wind goes. The fire inside furnace slowly vanished, as I have arranged the coals before. I enjoy the void inside my head, after stuffing it so much before, and now I just lay on the wall, resting, but there is a strange weight thing burdening my palm, so I take a look. There is some part left from the material grandgrand gave me. I rather curious about the material and checking it with my menu, and then I find the name of material. Its name is ‘unrefined metal’. I facepalmed.

I thought I have slacked so much for the other day, since I don’t feel like I have gone all out like I was when I created my first sword. Is it because the difficulties, or rather the size? There never be any mind-burdening task like when I was struggled creating that sword on that day. So, these days requests are more like exercises to me, and makes me able to do my jobs in future with more easier, which mostly may just repeating same processes. Except, if I start trying to create something new. That should be done sometime in near future. I have put the mark on it on my to do list so I can start making it when I am free from job and have the tools around me. Well, I don’t think that will happens soon. The request keeps coming almost every day, and I don’t have time to get distracted from so unrelated thing outside my job. Like today job. I need to create a dozen amount of shields in same design. I have prepared the mold from the other day. So, the process will be faster than if I take care creating each shield one by one. The difficulties will be just me, need to walk back and forth melting the material, pour it on mold, melt another material, open the solidified shield from the mold before pouring another melted material on it, just rinse and repeat. I also need to take care about the mold’s temperature so it won’t break easily by applying water for every occasion I felt the mold is already too hot. With this, it shouldn’t be hard to finish the request. I can just enjoy the process since the steps have been determined and will bring success. Then, after a while, the molding process is done. The rest will be hammering and polishing the shields. It will take sometimes. The day is still early anyway, and I don’t think I should rushing the work to finish today. I take my time enjoying the scenery on the backyard. This is just another day for me huh. How long since I first trapped here. I can’t recall the last time I am doing around this place. Well, I have work and objective to think of. I should think more about tomorrow rather than past. I continue hammering the shield, which is now shaped as oval with a little curved out on its center. Basically, a shield. A rather round shield in semi rectangle shape. I start heating another metal, so it can be attached to the shield’s back to serve as handler base, and shape it to the planned form before attaching it. Anything else I should do will be work on detail and after that will be leather coating on the shield’s back. Yeah, not that kind of hard job. I should say this is the same like when I create double edged axe. I just have to concentrate the hardness on the very center of pointed shape and that should work. The user should be able to protect himself with this design. Nyeh, I can imagine the wearer swings this shield right and left during battle. Hmm, what a pride of having my creation being used by someone. I am proud being a blacksmith.
Yep, with that, one creation is done, but there are still several shields that need same treatment before I can stop my work for the day. Meh, how should I thought I can finish this fast. It should be because my adventurer’s advantage. Yeah, become adventurer is really advantageous. For so dozens of times I thought I was lucky thrown here as adventurer. I can’t imagine thinking about survival from monster’s attack for every moment when traveling outside city. I don’t think I can stand that. I would rather punch the hell out of monster’s face as I am now. Wait, am I biased that I have tasted what it felt being adventurer? Meh, I may find happiness in either role. I just need to find a way to gain it, which is different way for each of them. I smile, thinking about the amount of efforts I have put to achieve my place now. Isn’t it similar to real world? When one works hard, he will harvest the result. People that cannot plant, will stuck to being attached to people who can. Or so in my village’s aphorism. Ah, are all shields finished? How long I has been dozing off by the way. I must be lucky that my body remember the process, even my consciousness has been shifted on something else, heh. I start collecting all shields and grouping them on one place, then mark the request as done on the wallboard. Then, when I attempt to turn off the furnace, I caught something rather urgent near the anvils. I found one of shovels already broken, and decide to fix it, but there shouldn’t be anymore materials right now, which is why I need to get up and walk to the storage room. I walk past the main area and encounter the grandgrand. The ‘effect’ thing from the other day still intrigued me. So, I decide to talk to grandgrand about it. Now, should be the right timing. I put the broken shovel aside and explain to him what I discover the other day. He just smirk, and says “Heh, so you don’t know about it?” wut, don’t tell me “well, you know?” “khekhekhe, neither do I” I squint “have you seen any other weapon we made has such ‘power’ granted from god?” his old eyes drawn toward the weapons on shelves ”You are the adventurer, you should know better than me” meh, I know I shouldn’t ask him in the first place. “Then, can I try making it here?” he put a wide grin listening to my suggestion, and just say “you kids really like wrecking stuffs. I don’t see why not”
