[attr="class","post2"]Things were going a bit slowly in Moon Dance Village on this particular day. Ever since Esperia had visited the village and was now aiding in the care of Lemmyl, a young Adventurer who had recently been poisoned using some unknown means by a band of Heretics, Ridley felt more relaxed. She went about her daily patrols just as she usually did, but did so with a bit more readiness, her mind no longer burdened by thoughts of the poor girl and what might happen to her. She still thought about her, of course, and visited each day before returning to the Warden barracks at the edge of town. The healers who were working on a cure for the poison felt that they were nearing a breakthrough and, hopefully, a cure. Only time would tell now, however. And Ridley was steadily counting the minutes.
During one of her routine patrols, Ridley found herself standing just outside of the village's eastern exit, a route used primarily by suppliers rather than residents or Adventurers. She stood for a moment, looking out at the wilderness beyond the perimeter of the village. Cherry blossoms fluttered in the breeze, which would pick up to a light gusty wind every now and again. The sounds of the leaves in the trees and on the forest floor filled her ears with an almost deafening rustling sound. She was about to turn back toward the village when the wind suddenly died down, silencing the sound of rustling leaves with it. It was then that something caught her attention. Just at the edge of her hearing, Ridley thought she heard movement in the trees. She snapped her gaze back out to the forest, just in time to see a shadowy figure dart behind a tree. She immediately went into alert mode, gripping her long sword as she scanned the trees for anymore movement. She stepped backward behind a tree next to the small red torii that marked this particular entrance to the village. She peered around the trunk, watching for anything suspicious.
Just then, she saw another figure dart between two trees. She couldn't be sure if it was the same figure, since this one was a ways closer to the village, but she was sure the first figure could have moved that far without her noticing. The possibility of multiple figures was too much to ignore, and their movements were way to suspicious to pass off for simple travelers.
A second later, she heard the snap of a twig off to the side and very near to her location. She turned and drew her sword, not wanting to take any changes. Just then, she saw the silhouette of a robed figure caring a staff. They seemed to be staring right at her, her assumptions confirmed as the end of his staff began to glow a bright orange. Her eyes widened as the conjured fire spell sailed toward her. She reacted quickly, however, leaping backward as the spell crashed into the tree, splintering and smoldering the bark and causing residual sparks to rain around her, lighting the dry, dead leaves in an instant.
"Oh no," was the only thing she was able to get out before turning tail and running toward the village. As she passed under the torii, she caught sight of two more mages advancing toward Moon Dance. "I have to get help here, now." Unsure of where to find anymore of her comrades right off the top of her head, an idea hit. She darted between a row of small houses, breathless, and brought her hand out in front of her, palm facing outward. "Come on, you stupid thing, work," she cursed. After what seemed like a lifetime, she was greeted by a small interface menu. Her basic access only granted her a few options, but what she was looking for was easily found. In the bottom left of her vision, a small semitransparent box could be found. She tapped her finger, and a flashing cursor appeared in the left of the textfield. Since she couldn't use the telepathic communication of Adventurers and other more-well-versed Landers, this was her only hope. She flicked her fingers across the holographic keys as fast as she could, grinding out the message with reckless abandon.
She tapped the return key one last time and closed the interface. "Please. Anyone. Respond."
