Sort of, anyway. Cap would be making the "tea," and Adler would be doing what fortunetellers do best - telling fortunes by reading the tea leaves. That was the plan, anyway. 'When are you going to tell her that you have no idea what the neep you're doing?' For the same reason she couldn't say "no" to doing this in the first place. Her Pharmacist subclass was suffering from lack of use, and as she had no idea of how to get started on her own, it was nice to have some help from a possible ally.
As of now, she was just crouched behind Adler's stall in St. Pancras Station, staring at the collection of herbs and roots to her right, and the tools she needed to the left. It was all pretty simple, really. The only problem here was the fact that she was being adventurous by not relying on the system, since it would only dull the flavor. 'Or perhaps the biggest issue here is that I have no idea if a Pharmacist can even make tea. I suppose I could just get really technical with it and try making something with benefits. I mean, there are drugs you can drink, like healing pots. I just need to make one that's tea oriented.' The realization that she was dangerously close to screwing up was settling in, but was she really going to try and back out of it now? 'I probably should have said something before. Oh maaan what if I end up hurting someone?!' With tea? That was ridiculous, though. '...There's absolutely no way you can screw up simple medicinal tea. Besides, that guy you met in the alley a few hours ago wouldn't dare to sell people some bad herbs, right?' No no, of course not! Not after he profusely told her that he was giving her the "good shit." The potency was also apparently top notch, so it should work exactly like a drug.
"Let's see...this stuff is valerian root, that's chamomile, here we have some calamus, that over there is elecampane, and a little lavender to cover up the medicine smell." Out of all of these ingredients, Capsule was only familiar with two -valerian, which she'd heard about somewhere, and chamomile, which was good before bedtime. 'Our customers are going to be so relaxed~.' If Capsule knew any better, she would not be mixing all of these ingredients together at once, especially not in this world and with her skill set. Luckily for her, however, her skill wasn't so high that things could get dangerous.
She wasn't sure where Adler was at the moment, but hopefully the woman would be returning soon with cups or something that didn't resemble beakers or flasks. 'People might not want something they think is medicine or liquor.' Nope. There were no drugs here. Just some nice "tea".
Capsule hummed quietly to herself as she carefully picked up a small bowl of boiling water and a syringe. Half of the calamus she'd bought was tightly packed into the boil, where the oils had slowly been building up. 'I feel like I'm doing poor chemistry.' It would have been easier to buy the stuff already extracted, but that cost extra and came in pitifully small doses. Cap poked and prodded at the contents of the bowl with a small spoon before covering it again, and left it alone to boil as she began chopping up some of the valerian root. 'Let's see...I have to chop this up well enough so that people don't end up gagging on the pieces.' They may have even come out a little too fine, but she was sure it would still work.
She checked the bowl of elecampane next, and figuring it may be close to ready, she picked up her small syringe and carefully poked one of the roots with the needle. 'It worked in Ginger Snaps, so why not here?' Except that was monkshood that was being prepared to inject a werewolf. It was also a movie, so taking it for fact was not a very logical move on her part. She thumped the side of the needle with one finger before emptying the contents into one of the thin test tubes she had salvaged. In the tube were a few of the finely chopped herbs. The contents of the tube turned a dark, purplish color, but lightened up once she swirled the contents about. 'Hm. I wonder if I could use the extraction in lieu of water?' It sure gave the "tea" a pretty color, and she'd used up all of her water boiling things. 'Eh, I doubt anyone would notice anyway.' Anyone who said they could tell otherwise would be lying. 'Especially when I sweeten it up with some sugar or honey, heh.' Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down~. Words:834 Notes:May as well be making potions and calling it "tea". :x

[attr="class","adler_post c"] [attr="class","aptype"] [attr="class","stats right"] Thread Type Private Research PartyTagged CapsuleWrote 379 wordsThe day of the player-run Chinese New Year event was the third Adler had spent combing London for a willing Brewer to be her partner for the stall she had planned. She wasn’t worried; she had very few people on her friends list (none of whom were right for the job), and the chances of finding someone by randomly walking up to them and presenting her proposition were slim, but she had a backup plan in mind. Adler didn’t believe in regular fortune telling techniques of course, especially none at her hand, but there were bound to be ladies who, caught up in the celebrations, would. If she failed then she would open up a face paint stall instead, but she didn’t fancy the idea of working so hard on a day that was meant to be enjoyed. She wouldn’t have set up a stall at all, but it was something she didn’t normally do in the real world; might as well give it a go where her reputation wasn’t as precious. By midmorning, Adler had found her. “Hello! Good morning! Beautiful day isn’t it?” Speaking very quickly, she didn’t wait for an answer. ”You look like someone who can Brew.” That was how she met Capsule. It was an odd name, but better than others. Adler didn’t mind; she was sure that she was the nutter in the conversation they had anyway. When they had finished, Adler was off to see a man about some wood. After that, she showed Capsule their spot, and after that, it was to an artisan supply shop for some clay and some tools. ”Ho, Capsule!” She greeted the green-eyed ginger on her return. She plopped the Mary Poppins bag (she didn’t like calling it “magical”) that contained her souvenirs onto a table and grinned. “Guess what I’ve got! No, really.” She added, laughing at herself. Adler's giving somebody else a chance to speak? Where's the flying pig? She opened the game’s interface and selected several items one after another. ”Tea sets!” She announced, thumping the ceramics down on the wood with a loud thud as each manifested in her open palm. ”Made them myself. Good, eh?” All but one of the sets were identical, as she had made the last by hand. [attr="class","stats"] Notes There'll be lots of timey-wimey stuff.

"Ksssssssk~!" Capsule's eyes welled up with tears as she accidentally spilled some of the hot liquid from the tube onto her hand. She blinked them away as she struggled to right herself. One moment she was just sitting here, thinking of ways to pass off her concoction as tea, the next she was jerking up in her seat, alarmed by the sudden voice of her partner in crime. 'Boiling water, why do you hurt me so badly?' Whimpering quietly from the pain, Capsule placed a stopper in the small tube and tucked it into her pocket, much like a naughty child trying to conceal a handful of stolen candy.
Capsule slowly pulled herself into a standing position and turned around to face Adler, who was beaming with excitement. "Oh, hello -" The redhead was cut off as the older woman plopped her magic bag on the table and started up a guessing game. "Uh -" Once again she was cut off by that excitable woman, who urged her again to guess what the bag contained. "Probably -" By this point, further elaboration by the narrator of the redhead's plight was just plain redundant. Capsule stopped trying to force her voice into the conversation, and allowed the other woman to showcase her findings. These turned out to be the much needed tea cups, apparently made by Adler's own hands.
The loud thumps from the tea set made Capsule wince. 'Careful!' She wanted to take them from the woman and carefully set them down on the table, as she feared they would break. "These look adequate," she ventured. "I have the…tea leaves all set. I'll start brewing a few cups right now, I guess." In her hurry to get the words out before she could be overrun again, Capsule found herself tripping over her own words and speaking in a rather high pitched tone. 'She must think me a total fool right now.' To cover up the mounting embarrassment she felt, Capsule quickly turned around and stooped over to grab her mixture of herbs.
The "tea leaves" were added to the cups with shaking fingers, causing a bit to spill over onto the table. 'Ugh.' Her fingers thankfully stopped shaking by the time it was time to strain the bowl of calamus extract, which she moved into a dark pitcher. 'Be cool. Be cool, Meike.' She paused to flash an awkward smile at a passing adventurer, and then began filling the cups with the liquid. A rather strong, but soothing scent drifted up from the tea cups, making Capsule feel just a wee bit light headed when the vapors assaulted her nostrils.
She grinned sheepishly out at Adler, now feeling a bit more relaxed than before. "You really think this is going to work, Addie? How many people buy tea from tea stalls?" That was kind of a stupid question. Adler, from what Capsule had seen of her so far, was not the kind of woman who could be so easily discouraged or disheartened. She didn’t notice anything odd in Capsule’s words as she was more concerned about the change in her voice. Was she always so squeaky? Adler had been so excited; she could very well have overlooked it this whole time. “Are you…?” She began softly but stopped; the other girl was busying herself with the tea, and in one of the few moments of calm she would exhibit for the day, she sat down at one of the stools to give Capsule a bit of space and hummed to herself, absently making up the changes in pitch while she reviewed a memory. The sound of clattering shells had announced Adler’s entrance into the NPC shop. Surprisingly, it was empty. “Good morning, lass. What’ll it be?” said the distinctly Irish shopkeeper. The old man was the same one she had approached to purchase her Artisan scroll, so she was familiar with some of the services he offered. The shop was the location of an easy quest, meant specifically for beginners to get a bit of experience in their new subclass. “Ceramics.” She replied out loud, smiling at him. Though she usually ignored NPC dialogue, being in front of one in the flesh made it personally difficult to be rude. The sound of liquid being poured shook Adler out of her reverie. She took a deep breath and instantly felt lighter, almost as if her soul would float out of her seat if she let herself be detached from her body. “What is this?” She asked, Capsule’s words not settling in her head fast enough. “It smells lovely, Cap! Of course this is going to work.” She added a little belatedly. “We’re in London; who isn’t going to buy tea? And this!” Adler took a large sip. Adler opened her eyes, unsure of where she was. "Ah, I'm not so sure if you should be drinking that," Capsule started to say as Adler reached for one of the cups. She didn't know if the "tea" she'd made had any odd effects, after all, since it was not traditional tea but more of a potion with a calming scent. 'Oh, why the hell not?' If the "tea" made people calm and relaxed, then what better test subject was there than Adler? The redhead refrained from stopping Adler, who was now taking a rather large sip of the potion disguised as tea. That sheepish grin remained however, and only grew bigger as Adler's eyes slipped closed.
"Addie?" Capsule glanced around before creeping closer to her companion, who appeared to be gently napping in her seat. "Adler?" The woman's slumber hadn't been immediate, but she certainly seemed to be in an almost deep sleep. She didn't stir when Capsule poked her, and didn't even flinch when the redhead jumped onto a neighboring stool and belted out one long, high pitched note. A few surrounding Adventurers and People of the Land did stop to stare at Capsule like she was out of her damn mind, but that was it. 'Huh. She really looks out of it.' Capsule was sure Adler was just setting her up for a trap, and would suddenly jerk up in her seat once the girl was lured into a false sense of security. As the minutes began to drag by, it became apparent that this was no joke.
'Oh God, I think I killed her.' If that was true, Adler's body would have disappeared by now. 'Or she just had a rough night, or has narcolepsy, or -" A waft of something sweet and delicious wafted into Capsule's nostrils. '...Or the brew I made may have had something to do with it.' Capsule frowned as she stared at the cups of tea she had just made with the pure extract of calamus. 'Chamomile makes you sleepy, right?' Chamomile also wasn't that potent on its own. "...Uh oh." The realization that the herbs she had bought from that dealer earlier were quite possibly designed to help people sleep was slowly dawning on her. 'And I just substituted water with the extract of one. Oh boy.' Had she accidentally made a sleeping draught?
The redheaded adventurer sighed in relief when Adler came to. "Thank goodness, Ad. Are you alright?" She squinted closely at the older woman, tempted to poke and prod her again to make sure she was whole and actually awake. "I hate to say it, but we may have to throw this stuff out. I think it made you fall asleep, though I don't know for sure unless I find another subject." She could trick someone else into drinking the stuff, but she was wary of using humans as test subjects. That would require a waiver to be signed so that they couldn't sue you later. 'Unless…'
She pushed that thought aside to poke Adler's shoulder. "...Are you all there? You look a little out of it." She hadn’t noticed before, but it was now impossible not to. Adler looked a bit disoriented, as if she'd lost a bit of her memory on top of being drugged. 'It looks like she just woke up from a deep sleep or really good dream.' Just how strong was this stuff, anyway? Adler didn’t have a history of blacking out though, so that must’ve been it. ‘How embarrassing.’“Sorry about that.” She mumbled, pressing on her inner canthi. “What were you saying?” She said, smiling politely while inwardly she scrambled to remember. Adler had been trying out Capsule’s tea. She remembered she was going to say something after drinking practically half the cup in one go, but the words had slipped from her memory, so instead she put down the cup, looked blearily at the other girl and… that was it. Everything had gotten blurry from there, though it didn’t feel too long before she had started awake. ‘I must be more tired than I thought.’“Ceramics.” Adler had said, smiling at the shopkeeper. “Do you still need someone to—““I’m sorry lass, bu’ we don’t give free lessons anymore.” The shopkeeper apologized. He was getting on in years, Pól O’Donovan. Much of his forehead used to have hair, which was now gray mixed with red. He was as tall as Adler even with his stoop, and he had very little meat on his bones. His fingers were long and slender, quite unlike his midriff. “The times, you understand. We don’t exactly make a killin’ ou’ o’ this.”The pit of Adler’s stomach fell right through the soles of her sandals. She nodded mutely. “That’s—of course. How… how much would it cost now?”“Don’t look so glum lass, you’ll break my heart!” He said in a consoling voice, though his relief was obvious. He gave her a price. “How much clay do I get to work with for this?” She asked, though the both of them were already moving towards the back where the workshop was. “You won’t run us out, don’t you worry!” He chuckled, guiding her to a corner with short but very wide urns. “Right. So these,” He bent down and patted one of the pots. “… hold the clay that—”“I’m sorry but, don’t you have to watch the shop?” She interrupted. He looked slightly affronted, but then another voice spoke up. “Yes he does, dear.” O’Donovan casually turned around, a guiltily pleased look on his face. “ Mo chroí! You’re back from the market?” “Yes, mo mhuirnín. I am.”[attr="class","stats"] Notes Irish terms of endearment are interesting.

Seeing that Adler was more or less alright (albeit sleepy), Capsule stepped back and leaned against the edge of the table, resting most of her weight on it. She lightly shook her head at the addled woman before her. "I was saying that maybe - " 'More like definitely.' "My uh…"tea" had a negative effect on you. I'm not a cook, ya know, so anything I make is bound to have some weird effects." Capsule then glanced skyward as she ran a hand through her loose, red hair. "That and I also may have made the drink more like a potion than actual tea."
Despite the hint of sincerity in her tone, Capsule had begun to swing her long legs in the air like a child. "It probably wouldn't have knocked you out so fast if you hadn't chugged it down like a frat boy at a party." To be fair, Adler probably wasn't expecting to have an impromptu meeting with the Sand Man, either. 'Or to be my unsuspecting guinea pig.' One of the cups of tea caught the corner of Capsule's eye, though she didn't bother picking it up, even if her Detox skill nullified status debuffs. Why bother reaffirming what they already knew?
The redhead lowered herself to the ground, bouncing a bit on her toes when she landed. She felt oddly at ease and especially carefree for some reason. 'You could just be hysterical. She rubbed at the back of her head again, almost as if she were trying to scrub the thought away. "Adler, maybe you should take a break and rest for a bit? We don't need you passing out again."
A small crowd of adventurers had gathered near the table, most of them gazing at Adler with some concern. Capsule frowned slightly as she shuffled behind the stall. She disliked having so many eyes on her, but it couldn't be helped. All she could do now was clean up and scuttle off before anyone could butt in and start asking questions. She didn’t care about the brewed “tea” left steeping on the table. If someone got too curious for their own good and drowned a cup, that was on them. The remains of the pitcher were collected into a flask, though, since she figured she could try selling the mixture later, or even turn it in as new “research”. She might be turned down in the end, but there was no harm in trying, right? [attr="class","adler_post c"] [attr="class","aptype"] [attr="class","stats right"] Thread Type Private Research Party Wrote 1201 words “I was saying that maybe my uh… "tea" had a negative effect on you. I'm not a cook, ya know, so anything I make is bound to have some weird effects.” Adler nodded mutely, Capsule’s words not really sinking in. Thinking it would be rude not to finish her tea, she picked up the cup and studied the solid particles skirting the bottom of it as she swirled the liquid around. Though still subdued, her mind was rapidly clearing. Adler lifted the cup to her lips, smelling it for a moment before— “That and I also may have made the drink more like a potion than actual tea.” Adler snorted, spilling potion all over herself. The dots finally connected, and Adler turned her head to stare at Capsule so fast, she heard her neck crick. She was a Pharmacist! Adler was torn between indignation and mirth—it technically was her fault, even if the reasons were different. ‘But hang on… what’re we going to be giving people later?’ Had she given Capsule the wrong impression? Yes, fortunetelling was usually a rip-off, but she wasn’t planning to actually steal from people! “I’m fine.” She insisted in reply to Capsule’s suggestion. It was true as well. Adler leapt to her feet, causing the chair she was sitting on to scrape noisily against the ground. “Shouldn’t you be trying to make some more tea? Potion then,” She added before Capsule could say anything. “Maybe something not so relaxing this time.” Noticing the people still lingering around them, Adler put on her game face and struck a pose. “Tea and fortunes, everyone! Make sure to come back later for it! Our brew is to die for!” She sincerely hoped Capsule didn’t take that as a serious suggestion. Despite his reaction to her sudden appearance, O’Donovan seemed to share a lot of qualities with his wife. They were both slim and fair, a little hunched due to old age, but energy clearly still flowed through them. Their banter and mischievous (but affectionate!) smiles made it seem like they’d only just begun dating, but Adler could read; his wife’s status window clearly named her as “Dáirine O’Donovan”. “I’ll take it from here.” She said gently, but with a gleam in her eye. Pól left them to man the shop front, and Dáirine continued the tour. She showed Adler the materials and equipment they used; different types of soft clay, a shelf of unfinished works, their chest of tools and garments—though seeing an apron and a rolling pin made Adler pine for crusty bread—and in another corner was the kiln they used to harden the dried clay further. Before Dáirine would show her how to use the potter’s wheel however, she tasked Adler with making something by hand. “It helps you get a feel for the clay.” She explained. Naturally, Adler had chosen to make a tea set. Before she made anything however, Adler had to prepare the medium. Taking a handful of clay from one of the ceramic jars, she was told to knead the air bubbles out of it by folding it in on itself while keeping it compact. “It’s a bit like doing laundry or giving a massage honestly.” Dáirine quipped, taking some of her own to demonstrate her technique, as well as how to check if it was done properly. When she was satisfied, she left Adler to it. Adler made the first cup using the most basic technique where one molds the clay by hand with no tools to help, resulting in a piece that looked like it was made by a preschooler with uneven walls marked with her fingerprints and everything. Her second cup was done through a technique called "coiling"; as one might expect, it involved rolling strips of clay to resemble rope and coiling it around a flat clay base then pressing the walls of each ring together. By the third cup, Dáirine felt she had practiced enough. “This is called throwing.” She began, gently placing her ball of clay at the center of a large stone disc (not unlike a serving tray), which was the topmost piece of an interesting contraption that looked like an unnecessarily complicated coffee table, or a coffee table and treadmill hybrid. Dáirine sat on a low stool facing it and did something with her foot to make the top start spinning. “This is a kick wheel.” She showed Adler how to center the clay, make a hole in the middle of it ( “Not too deep now. You want a bowl, not a donut!”), and how to change the clay's shape lengthwise and cross. Then it was Adler's turn. “Slowly now.” Dáirine said over Adler's shoulder as she was making the cup rounder and wider. This was going to be her teapot, so it needed to be a bit bigger. “Dont forget to add—that's it.” Adler lifted a piece of cloth that had been partly soaking in water over the clay and squeezed. Replacing the cloth, Adler gently cupped the clay in both hands again. She tried to be slow and gentle like she was being told, but her piece of clay still wobbled slightly every time she touched or released it—Dáirine kept muttering “too fast” or “too rough” under her breath. “Not bad for your first time.” Dáirine said when Adler finished the body. The walls weren’t perfectly symmetrical, but it was still a significant improvement over the cups she’d shaped by hand. She made the spout next, also on the wheel, and after that was the handle. When the parts were done, Dáirine produced a blade for Adler to gouge a hole into the body where the spout was to be attached, and finally, the set was ready to be dried. “Now, normally it takes a day or so to let the pieces dry before we put them in the kiln, but…” Dáirine gave Adler a conspiratorial wink. In the same way that Chefs could create a complete meal from ingredients by using the game’s interface, Artisans could instantly dry and fire pieces of pottery. The chances of exploding in the kiln due to improperly prepared clay decreased the more proficient one was in the craft. Thankfully, all of Adler’s pieces survived, and Adler was rewarded with the recipe for thrown cups and teapots. “I’ll leave you to it then. You know where everything is.” Dáirine went back to her own work. She seemed to be using a second potter’s wheel to make plates with the aid of a mold to keep their shapes consistent, but Adler hadn’t been curious enough to go over there and bother her—nosiness was a poor way to thank her for her help. Seeing Adler was alright, the people who had gathered around the stall dispersed. While Capsule cleaned up after herself, Adler threw away the tea that was still in the cups and brought them to the makeshift sink to rinse. While she washed, Adler picked up one of the homogenous cups and examined its plain surface. When she thought about it, Adler wasn’t sure she’d ever seen painted pieces of ceramic in the Elder Tale world. Her mind wandered with possibilities. [attr="class","stats"] Notes I rewatched bits of the anime, and so far I've only seen plain cups and saucers even in the castle. I find it odd that painted pottery isn't a thing though.
