It had been a couple of days since Elkeid had shown him colors, and the day before he had accidently learned how to open his inventory. He had wondered what these were, and began clicking buttons. One caused his armor to vanish, which he promptly clicked again to keep it on. Another button made a this strange elongated and curved piece of wood appear in his hand. It had a string attaching the two ends, and Vai searched his past book readings in an attempt to figure out what it might have been. A bow, so this is what a bow looked like. Judging by it’s length, it would be a Longbow; do I even have arrows? Another check into his list managed to come across another item that appeared as an arrow. If only I knew how to fire this, I could perhaps be of some help in this world. “Guess it’s time for me to find another mentor.” He wandered around, looking for a good place to ask and came across several great candidates. Vai knew that in the fantasy stories, taverns were often where the adventurers went to gather information.
He came across one of the many taverns in London, and walked right through the door. His eyes were mostly closed as he did this, since it was often easier to find his way around by just peeking to see where certain objects were, then navigating to them without sight. He did this, until he saw how many people were in the tavern. Screw that, I’m not wading through people with my eyes closed; he learned that was a bad idea earlier when he slammed into several people and had to apologize. Finding his way to what seemed like a counter, it had several stools in front of it with a man standing behind a really long wooden table. Some people sat on the stools, and kept drinking this strange looking brownish substance from large... cups? Mugs? It didn’t matter. Wandering up to the counter, he got the barkeeps attention. “Hey, I’m here for knowledge and a favor. I can pay you later.”
The barkeep smiled as the boy said this. “Haha sure what is it son?” He rested one hand on his side as the other arm balanced his odd stance; this man had turned and is now leaning over the table to get a closer so he can properly hear the man. Perhaps he was hard of hearing, or that was just something he did.
“Turns out I have this bow, didn’t know I had it before but I need to find someone who could perhaps show me a thing or two about firing arrows from it.” Vai leaned closer and spoke close to the mans ear, this caused the man to pull back slightly and think.
“Did I hear that right? Ye need an archery instructor? Hell if I wasn’t workin I might have been a good candidate for ya. Here’s a thought, I’ll check around, spread some rumors for ya and I’ll get you an instructor.” The man placed both hands on the table, leaned forward and began talking in a very quiet tone. “Leave the rumors to me, all you need to do is wait outside town just before greatwood. I’ll get you someone by the end of the day.” With that, the barkeep waved Vai out and went back to his other patrons at the bar. “So, spre-” was the last bit of chatter from the bar that Vai had heared before heading out.
Now to find this greatwood. Having wandered enough the past days, he knew exactly where the gate would be located and began walking towards there. He passed by several other adventurers utilizing the same weapon he would be using, but theirs looked different; they had the same structure but some appeared of metal, and others appeared of intricate wood. It made his weapon look shoddy, but that was probably expected; this world was the world of an RPG, and he was still level 1. Vai had the urge to ask several of these men to be his teacher, but he thought against it; after all he did just ask that bartender to find someone for him. For all he knew, these people were cruel and would ask to much of him, and he thought it better to trust the kind bartender to help him out instead. Continuing his path, he finally left the city for the first time since he had arrived.
Off in the distance, he could see what looked like a mass of trees. Well, that fits the bill for a forest, perhaps that is where I must go to wait? Vai began walking towards the trees, closing his eyes as he goes; it would be easier to remember his path if he could not see it. It felt so long before he finally reached the forest, and he knew he reached his destination as he felt a sharp pain on the front of his body and heard a loud cracking sound before falling to the ground with a thud. Vai opened his eyes and saw that he had just walked into a tree. Heh, I totally forgot check what was in front of myself. His small chuckle eventually turned into straight on laughter as he picked himself up, and sat against the tree waiting for another to show.
