Words: 372 As they approached the Oasis @eleri commented on the potential danger, and likelihood of being attacked. However, despite his cautious words, he seemed to, if anything, be excited by the prospect. I guess he must be getting bored with driving the cart. He'd offer to switch places, but he had a sneaking suspicion that Hugin wouldn't do as he instructed, so it would be a pointless gesture. Of course, Landers like Kelsoy and Alasdair wouldn't appreciate the difference, as they saw their current world as the only one. "There was a town here once, but a cataclysm destroyed it, creating the desert here today." The storyteller explained. "Well, that's what I've been told, anyways." Shuwen decided to keep his mouth shut on the matter. When Fallout suggested that he scout ahead, Kelsoy quickly shook her head. "You'll have plenty of scouting to do when we reach the oasis. The area is... suspicious.""What do you mean by 'suspicious', Kelsoy?" the monk asked. "It may or may not be safe."Shuwen responded with a confused look. "Well, it's never been that safe to begin with, for the reasons Jacoben already stated." Alasdair elaborated. "But lately, I hear people have been going missing in the area. I mean, without a trace, which is rather unusual." "Please say stuff like that earlier next time!" Shuwen requested expressively. However, neither of the landers were paying him any attention, paying more attention to Fallout. The assassin was busy verbally comparing the geography of Elder Tale to that of the the Earth they had come from. Personally, the presence of a desert didn't particularly surprise Shuwen. Part of the reason was probably his lack of familiarity with the geography of real-world Britain. However, the main reason was a bit simpler; they were in Elder Tale, fantasy land. Why stick to the same droll forests and such when they could instead throw in the kitchen sink? He for one, appreciated that effort on the part of the developers. When they reached the Oasis, they stopped. Kelsoy suggested using it as their base camp for the time being, as Alasdair quickly assigned everyone tasks like before. Shuwen was of course given cooking duty again. "I'm on it. He replied dryly.

Jacoben guided their cart down towards the Oasis quietly, feeling a bit awkward and not really sure what to do about it. He felt a little lost right now for no good reason that he could think of, so he chalked it down to being in an odd mood. What could you do when you were feeling like that but try and continue onwards and hope to break out of it. He was frustrated with himself more than anything, this was his chance to break out of old habits and become a better person, and even here he was cringing in on himself and hiding.
It was unacceptable but he didn't know quite how to break out of it.
It had been scary enough when he had to act as an officer for his guild, but at least then he had something to hide behind, a persona that could help him overcome the fundamental difficulties that he had in social situations such as these. Here he had no such thing, no real support or things to hide behind, he just had to work through his issues and get to it.
Pulling up to their camp grounds for this next stage of the journey, Jacoben went about quietly prepping the cart and tents. He removed Hugin from the harness and allowed the Axebeak to go free before he went about setting up their tents and getting out the various supplies that they would need for the night, including the food and various utensils that Shuwen would need to cook for them.
"How safe is this area? Should we be setting up some sort of barrier or watch system, or should we assume it's a fairly unassuming spot?" he asked quietly, turning his attention to Kelsoy and Alasdair as he attempted to break out of his shell more, his hands hiding within the sleeves of his robe in an attempt to find some comfort in overcoming his difficulties with social interactions.
It was a pity they couldn't do anything to ensure that their camp was better protected. Some walls or perhaps a magical barrier would be comforting if there was some danger during the night.

After Fallout offered a forward scout Kelsoy was quick to decline the offer, stating there will be plenty to do later on. He responded with a simple nod. However, she did not previously mention that the area is “suspicious”. Leaving Fall a little annoyed. However Fallout had anticipated this, after all something was bound to happen at a place like this. He jumped down from the cart and was greeted to the feeling of sand beneath his boots, a very unfamiliar feeling. He reached down a picked up a handful of the ground, letting the breeze carry the fine grains away. “It's been awhile since I have felt sand, I normally stick to city areas. Occasionally a forest if I have to, I've only ever been to the beach once before” Jacoben questioned the safety of the area and about possible defences, it was a good call as the group were now in unfamiliar territory. “Setting up barriers will take resources and time, we will just have a repeat of the previous night shift to make things easier.” The assassin looked over to Alasdair for approval, the medicine man simply gave him a thumbs up of approval. Kelsoy gave a look of disagreement, but that quickly vanished. “For now why don't you eat and rest? You haven't been looking well since we arrived here, do you not like the the desert area?” Fall questioned the fox tail, slightly concerned. Once Fall had eaten his meal he informed the group of where he would be, he had selected a sand hill on the east side of the camp. This gave him a good view of everything around him, it would be very hard for an enemy to sneak into the group's territory. It was already unlikely for an attack, most creatures slept during the cold desert nights. But it was better to be safe than sorry, one quick attack and it could be the end of his journey. The moon was out, the sand now covered in a large shadow. Dimly lit by the moonlight which was barely breaking the clouds, it was difficult to see the surrounding area. He tried to listen for danger, but the only sound was a light breeze moving sand around. ‘I wish a had a night vision ability or something, so dark. Anything could be camouflaged in this sand, just gonna have to do my best.’ Sigh, he looked to his left to see a small scorpion scuttling along the ground. ‘Though my best won't be any good if there is an attack, should have done more research into the enemies of this area’ It was now the middle of the night, the moon was directly above the camp. Engulfing the are in the light of the full moon, visibility was now reasonable as the clouds had passed. Fallout was looking around, still nothing. Until the sound of shifting sand could be heard from behind, twisting around he was presented with nothing but more sand. ‘Was that….the wind?’. Another shift of sand was heard to the left, out of the corner of his eye he noticed something long and thin. ‘Did I just see a freaking shark or am I dreaming?’. The was a slight shake in the ground, five metres ahead of him a thin poked out the ground before diving back in. “Jaws?” He said, fear under his breath. He felt the vibration beneath his feat. “ENEMY!” He yelled at the top of his lungs, before the beast emerged from below narrowly missing the assassin. The blow from the surrounding impact zone was enough knock Fallout down, causing him to tumble down the hill. Fall just barely regained his footing before wiping the sand from his eyes. He looked to the top of the hill to see some sort of wyvern stood staring at him, the interface showed its name as a Cephadrome. Fallout launched a throwing needle at the creature “Death Stinger”, doing little to no damage other than the poison. It stared for a couple of seconds, the wyvern leaped into the air and crashed into the ground. Disappearing from sight. The others had arrived from their tents ready for combat, he wasn't sure if they had heard him or the crashes from the beast but he was none the less glad they had arrived. “We are dealing with something called a Cephadrome, a wyvern from the looks. It appears to enjoy stealth attacks and striking from below, it emerged from the ground but didn't run so I can only assume it's not afraid of upclose confrontations. Be at the ready and keep moving.” He informed the group.

Words: 627 When the made it to the oasis, @eleri wondered if they could somehow fortify it; set up defenses and such that would make them safer from attack. However, Fallout disagreed, pointing out that a night watch like the one they had used the previous day would likely be sufficient. Shuwen nodded. "I don't think any of us have those kind of skills. A night watch should probably be enough." He wasn't really looking forward to having to lose sleep over it, but it couldn't be helped. And lose sleep he did. While the lifestyle he had maintained back on earth required him to get up early at times, he had never needed to break his sleep into two pieces like this, so he wasn't really prepared for it. His own watch aside, he ended up getting rudely awoken during Fallout's shift by the Assassin's warning of a monster in the area. Groaning, Shuwen rolled out of his tent and stood up, swaying slightly. As he moved towards Fallout's location, he tried to work the kinks out of his body and slap himself awake, with mixed results. While he was able to fight, it was unlikely he could fight as well as he could when he was better prepared. "Blaaaaaaaah." Shuwen growled to express his frustration. He could hear the sound of something hitting the ground, but by the time he got there, he didn't see anything hostile. According to Fallout, it was a type of wyvern that liked to attack from below. "Dahuh? Shuwen asked, his sleeping brain cells struggling to function. Though it's exact nature varied from game to game, wyverns were, in his experience, usually dragon-ish monsters, usually weaker then actual dragons that may or may not be flight-capable. The idea of a possible flyer somehow getting below them was new to him, though expressing this clearly was, at the moment, beyond him. Regardless of where it was, it didn't seem to be in any hurry of continuing it's attack, which would give Shuwen a little time to make preparations. Shrugging, he opened his knapsack and pulled out two items. The first was a Potion of Nighteye. When consumed, it would grant temporary night vision. Unfortunately, he only had one, and it's duration was to short to last the duration of a watch, so it would be useless for keeping a lookout, but it would probably do for just this battle. The second item was a Coconia Cookie. Using his Picnic ability, he was able to generate a duplicate in the hands of each of his other party members. Kelsoy, trade cookies with me and eat it! Jacoben, Fallout, you two trade cookies and eat them! He didn't have enough functioning brain cells to explain properly, but he trusted the cookie's description would sufficiently explain why. As the exchanges took place, Shu quickly downed the nighteye potion, before stuffing his mouth full of fruity, sugary cookie. He urgent hoped it wouldn't take very long. Even if the wyvern didn't seem to be in a hurry to attack again, it was likely only a matter of time, so every second could be considered precious. As the wyvern once again surfaced, he growled out "I LOVE a good nights sleep!" in the monster's general direction, clearly unhappy with the interruption. He was tempted to rush in and attack it first-thing, but he wanted to get used to the weird way he moved. So it "swims" through the ground? Geez. Drawing one of his throwing knifes, he used Rafting Taunt, and tried to circle around, in hopes of drawing it away from the rest of the party. Kelsoy, seeing what he was doing, began to circle in the opposite direction, possibly in an attempt to flank the Wyvern. Potion of Nighteye - Researched by Pharmacist Icyferno. A potion made from a certain species of herbs that are said to have granted the People of the Land temporary night vision in the past. Due to the low quality of the solvents used to make this potion, it should be drank rather than used as eyedrops according to old Lander testimony. Upon being used, it tints the user's vision green and slightly increases their ability to see in the dark for a short period of time. Its duration and potency depends on the average level of ingredients used to make it. [-1 Toxicity, +25% Potency]
Coconia Cookie (Level 10): A special cookie made during the Coconia Event. A large sweet-tasting cookie. Upon consuming it, it gives one the urgent sense to confess their feelings about something they love. It seemed that the evening came and went without anything of any importance. They ate, they got ready for bed, and they slept. At least, that was the plan. The foxtail sat bolt upright as Fallout’s cry woke him from sleep, scrambling to his feet and equipping his gear with the sort of unconscious action that would have startled him had he been more awake. Instead he was up and out of his tent very quickly, just in time to see whatever it was that was attacking them disappear into the sands around them.
Fun.
Jacoben quickly joined the others and couldn’t help but smirk to himself as he realised that Shuwen was definitely not a fast waker. It was an odd feeling to have, but really, the monk looked so out of it that he couldn’t resist the feeling of amusement, even in the face of an enemy attack. Really though, he had expected them to be attacked, that was why he had tried to see if there was any way to enhance their defences while they were here, as it would certainly have been useful.
As it was they’d just have to make do with what they had.
Jacoben sighed slightly as his tails spread out behind him, the fluffy appendages swaying with anticipation as his crystal ball floated up from its satchel at his waist to hover above his shoulder in preparation for the fight to come. The Sorcerer took the Coconia Cookie from Shuwen and looked at it blankly for a moment before he examined its’ flavour text. Well, that would be useful he supposed as he swapped the cookie that he had with Fallout so that they could both gain the benefits from eating the buff food.
With that done he found the place with the best vantage point nearby that would allow the others to protect him while he cast his spells, and waited for the beast to show up again, glancing around in search of it so that he wouldn’t be caught by surprise. It was strange how calm he felt in this situation, ready and waiting to fight rather than worrying and fussing about little things. If only he could be like this in more regular situations as well…

Shuwen gave Jacoben a cookie which was then passed down to Fallout, giving the group a useful buff. The assassin began to put distance between him and the group, glancing behind he had spotted that Jacoben gave himself a good vantage point. The monk used a technique ( Rafting Taunt) which would attract the attention of the enemy, allowing Fallout to safely build distance and Jacoben to cast spells. Fallout was sure that the Monk had some sort of plan, well….he hoped. "Gotta love having a tank on the team" Fallout said to himself confused. 'What did I just say?' Fallout was keeping an eye on the beasts fin, it was the only way to keep track of it whilst it was swimming through the sand. As the fin turned around it preceded to build up speed, there was a burst of sand. From the cloud emerged the wyvern, the beast glided just above the ground in Shuwen’s direction. Kelsoy’s quick reaction time showed as she raised her sword to make contact with the beast, however in the process she herself was struck by the fin. As her weapon sliced the left side of the beast, she was cut by its fin through the stomach. Kelsoy dropped to the ground, leaving leaving a trail of blood in the air as the beast made its way to Shuwen. Turning his sights to the bodyguard, he realised she was motionless on the ground. “God dammit” Fallout whispered to himself. “KELSOY IS PARALYZED, KEEP IS DISTRACTED” The assassin yelled as he made his now stuck warrior, trapped in the middle of a battlefield. Grabbing her armor Fall proceeded to drag her to the side of the camp, until her status effect wore off.

Words: 267 Fallout followed the wyvern's fin, doing his best to keep track of where it was. Unfortunately, Shu wasn't awake enough to keep up with it, and had to rely on the reactions of his party mates to know when it was coming. Had he been more awake, he probably wouldn't have bothered, and simly used his Hearing Aptitude to keep track of it's movements. Alas, he wasn't, so he didn't. Fortunately, the wyvern gave him plenty of warning before attacking; bursting forth, and creating a cloud of sand, it gave Shuwen more then enough warning. Using Rafting Taunt again to maintain aggro, he resumed running in something akin to a circle around the wyvern, forcing it to constantly turn on order to stay oriented towards him, slowing it down a tad. With that speed, getting close enough to hit him with melee attacks is going to be a pain. It looked like they'd be relying on @eleri again to be their main source of damage. Unfortunately, Kelsoy either didn't or couldn't stay out of melee range and traded blows with it; swiping at the creature's wings in exchange for taking a hit to her midsection. Unfortunately, the attack inflicted a paralysis effect, and Fallout had to quickly drag her out of the line of fire to keep things from getting worse for her. Better keep it off them. He thought, drawing one of his knives and throwing it at the wyvern. After all, Rafting Taunt wouldn't allow him to maintain agro indefinitely, and it wouldn't do any damage. He needed to supplement it's usage with actual attacks.

”It’s weird how much I love fighting,” Jacoben found himself blurting out even as he took position to deal with the approaching monster, eyebrows furrowing as he realised that he had said that out loud. Shaking his head to clear it from the intrusive thought and focused once more on the fight that was playing out before him.
With the way that the creature was constantly moving it was fairly obvious that his party members would have difficulty actually hurting it, so that meant he’d have to deal the sort of damage that they needed to either kill it or defeat it.
With a casual gesture Jacoben set up his Robust Battery, his hair and fur tingling as his magical power increased. As it seemed that the wyvern hadn’t yet begun to attack in earnest the Sorcerer decided to start off with one of his longer casting spells, muttering to himself as he moved his arms around in the necessary motions. The air around the wyvern would become colder with increased speed before hail and snow began pelting down around it. Frigid Wind’s area of effect meant that he was likely to catch his target regardless of whether it dived beneath the sand again.
The moment that the spell was cast Jacoben began another, flames growing around his hand as he prepared Orb of Lava for the moment that he had a clear shot. Between the slowing effect of Frigid wind and the increased weakness to fire he felt it was the best chance to do some serious damage to the enemy. It would also give him a good idea of the creature’s resistances and weaknesses, not to mention hopefully not exceed Shuwen’s ability to keep it distracted.
He'd be ready to move if the worst happened.

Fallout watched over the paralysed samurai, her status effect was coming to an end. As he looked around the battlefield one thing was clear, they couldn't fight it whilst it was underground. After his previous experience it seemed it only came to the surface after an attack, but taking a hit would be a risky move.
“That was embarrassing, I shall take my revenge now.” Kelsoy stood from her slouched position and unsheathed her blade. “Now stand back assassin, watch how a true warrior faces their enemies.”
“WAIT!” Fallout urged the displeased fighter “Charging head on won't achieve anything, we need to be smart about this”
Kelsoy ceased her attack, but did turn not to face her team mate. “What is the plan, Fall?”
“Simple, I will act as bait. I will do my best get it to rise out the ground, it seems to come out off the ground only when opponents are ahead of it. I will run in its direction and hope he attacks me, but I need you to strike it before it strikes me. Im not sure if I can survive a direct hit.
“Thats an idiotic plan relying on ‘hope’, but it might work. SO GET GOING!” The change between calm and ecstatic was sudden, but it got the assassin running.
Watching the fin as it glided through the sand, Fallout attempted to intercept. Throwing himself in the direction of the fin, he watched it approach. The thin slowed down, then disappeared from site. Seconds past before Fallout realised where it was, the sand wyvern broke open the ground revealing half its body. The beast cast its gaze onto Fallout, a slight inhale occurred before a beam of sand skimmed his arm. The blast zone around the sand was enough the knock the assassin back, causing him to roll onto his side.
Once footing was gained he looked over to the enemy, only to see Kelsoy slashing the beasts left wing. It let out a frantic scream before jumping out the sand and landing with a crash, Kelsoy shielded her face in an attempt to not get struck by the sand.

Words: 411 As Shuwen suspected, @eleri was once again going to be their primary source of damage dealing. The foxtail quickly got to work, making preparations to attack. His first assault was a wide-area ice spell that seemed to be able to effect the wyvern even while it was underground. Unfortunately, the excessive amount of snow and ice made it neigh-impossible for Shuwen to keep track of the wyvern's fin, causing it to vanish from his sight. Not good. Not good. Where is it? Whereisit? The monk kept his head on a swivel, eyes moving back and forth trying to regain visual contact, but alas, even with the night-vision effect of the potion he'd drunk, he was having trouble. Suddenly, Fallout moved forward into the fray. What's he doing? Has he spotted it? Under the circumstances, Fallout should have been the one the wyvern was least inclined to attack; after all, he hadn't really dealt any damage to it yet, and hadn't used any agro drawing skills. However, in spite of that, the wyvern surfaced in front of him and began to attack. Dafaq? Is it going after the lowest-leveled party member, or whoever has the lowest agro instead? He'd heard of boss monsters that did things like that, but they tended to be few and far between. Most bosses had other means of dealing with them, such as AOE attacks, periodic aggro resets, or skills that pulled in all faraway enemies. Scowling, the monk raised his shield arm and activated the Covering skill Whoosh! With a flicker of motion, the Assassin and the Monk switched places. Bam! The strange beam struck Shuwen's shield squarely. Since the beam was wider then the shield itself, it also struck parts of his arm and chest. The Monk was knocked off his feet by the onslaught, and landed on his bum. "Yow! Shuwen shouted, wincing as he landed. The landing wasn't too bad; the sand cushioned his fall, but that beam had packed quite a punch, and knocked maybe twenty or thirty percent of his HP. Growling, he leaped back onto his feet, intending to counter attack, but Kelsoy and Jacoben beat him to the punch. Kelsoy slashed it with her sword, while Jacoben lobbed a fireball at it. Incidentally, Jacoben would probably notice that the ice attack he'd dealt earlier was notably more effective. The wyvern dived back into the sand, but not before Kelsoy used Samurai's Challange on it, shifting it's attention to her.

OOC: I am very sorry, I seem to have a terrible case of writer’s block atm >.<
IC:
Jacoben stayed in place, his mismatched eyes scanning their surroundings as the creature disappeared once more into the sand, the attacks that they each had made doing some serious damage but not being enough to actually put the creature down once and for all. It seemed that they weren’t particularly coordinated at this stage, probably from a lack of sleep, and this new enemy behaved in ways that weren’t expected from such an opponent. That meant they had to wake up and try and be smart about it.
With the creature completely submerged at this point there was nothing that Jacoben could do but plan. He eyed his current cooldowns and contemplated his options. If the enemy’s health was low enough he could probably blast it with his highest damage spells and hope it went down before he could pick up aggro, but he wasn’t sure how good his chances were there.
So he’d have to play it smart, work out how this enemy fought, and then defeat it, but until then there really wasn’t much he could do but wait and prepare. It would give him a chance to recover mana he supposed. It would also allow him to get his other abilities off of cooldown in preparation for a potential burst of damage that might (hopefully) defeat the enemy before it could kill off the admittedly squishy sorcerer.

Stood there confused, the Assassin didn't know where he was. One moment he was staring a wyvern in the mouth, next moment he was watching Shuwen being thrown back. ‘What just happened, did he switch places with me’It sunk back into the sand once again to repeat the process, but not before Kelsoy and Jacoben could deal some swift damage. The blows were being dealt slowly on both sides, though Fallout had just realised the best way of getting it onto the land. Unfortunately he wasn't happy about this, but it had to be done. After regaining composer he ran to Shuwen, sand plashing as his footsteps hit the ground. At a time like this cover would be nice, but how do you hide from something that seems to be able to strike from any direction. That something was currently circling around heading towards Kelsoy, allowing the assassin to be able to make it to the monk before another attack could occur. “How you holding up?” Keeping calm amongst the danger. “We need to get it out from underground, I think I know how.” Fallout stopped to check the wyverns location. Its focus was still on the Samurai, circling round. ‘It definitely prefers sneak attacks’. He turned to face Shuwen “Remember when it glided just above the surface, if you guys can hit it with enough force whilst its in midair then you might be able to bring it to the ground. I know its a shot in the dark but its better than sitting around, letting it slowly chip away at us.” Fallout tried to explain, hoping the monk would agree “Im more than happy to act as the bait”.

Words: 432 Once again, the wyvern disappeared beneath the sand. Shuwen was already irriated, so this was really beginning to get on his nerves. However, he didn't really have time to dwell on it. Fallout ran over to him, apparently wanting to discuss something. "You're exaggerating how bad this is, but whatever." They seemed to be doing about as much damage to the wyvern as it had been doing to them, or so Shuwen believed. Sure, that sand-beam had certainly hurt him, but @eleri 's offensive magic had dealt it quite a bit of damage. The bigger issue, in his opinion, was the mental one. The wyvern's behavior was odd to say the least; it had gone after the person Shuwen had figured it would be least likely to target. And the fact it couldn't be hit most of the time was an annoyance. It's dragging the fight out longer then it ought to be. Of course, the fact Shuwen had been woken in the middle of the night hadn't exactly helped either. "So you want me to knock it out of the air the next time it does that gliding move? Okay." It probably wasn't quite the way Shuwen would have preferred to go about it, but to be honest, he didn't care enough to argue. "If you want to be bait... I can think of a way to make it work." However, he made sure to remain vague how just how he intended to "make it work." He didn't have time to deal with the assassin's complaints after all. Fallout was still next to him when the wyvern surfaced at the assassin's flank. Whether he would be able to dodge the attack in time was... debatable, so Shuwen took matters into his own hands. Grabbing Fallout by the shoulder, he suddenly lifted the assassin into the air and threw him towards Kelsoy via an overhand throw. "Kelsoy! Catch!" As expected, the wyvern turned his gaze to follow the unfortunate adventurer, crawling forward to presumably bring the assassin back within his attack range. Oh no you don't. Leaping upwards, Shuwen activated the skill Wyvern Kick, striking the wyvern's side with a flying kick. But he didn't stop after that either, he readjusted his stance slightly then followed up with an Aura Axe Kick on roughly the same spot. Between his attacks and presumably Jacoben's (Kelsoy and Fallout were primarily melee fighters, and probably wouldn't close the distance in time), too much of the wyvern's time would be consumed by it taking attacks, and it would quickly attempt to once again sink below the surface.
