So while we don't have a system for a combat yet, and to help prevent dungeon topics taking months ive been thinking idea's on how to condense combats to one post per player. also increasing the numbers of players you can have per thread for events like an area boss kill etc.
This would involve players or a GM becoming a dungeon master and communicating via group mail or skype with the participants
It also requires knowing bosses stats etc.
It would require every player to firstly roll an initiative to see how quickly they react (in till we have casts times i leave it up to players) then of course they can take there actions say the boss got a 1 and a sorcerer got a 6 but the guardian a 2, the sorcerer may go and attack first but of course than generates threat before the guardian can go. or they could wait
A combat dialogue for posts would be for example
Elemental Boss: Suprises party appearing beneath them. Fire Plume AoE damage to front ranks
Guardian rolls high reacts fast engages building aggro
Sorcerer sees fire so uses water/ice
Shaman and Druid go at same time using there spells to support the guardian, with damage removal and healing
The Assassin moves behind enemy and attacks
......
Boss Killed
This event chain of actions by everything can then be used to make 1 larger post per person to involve the whole combat rather than lots of smaller posts that take a longer time to deal with a battle
Of course this requires that you have to share boss info with players and hope they don't meta game it in there dungeon runs etc
Summary Of Pro's And Con's
Pros:
Allows Dungeon threads to have more trash mob combat but reduce time length required for the thread to be completed
Possibly more immersive for rpers
If DMed by players reduces work for GM's except for loot drops
Cons:
In Player Hands
Risk of Meta Gaming
