Hiro took a seat at his workbench, and looked over the materials he had around him. He had asked Midori, his good friend and co-leader of Apocrypha, to materialize up some Stabilized Mana Fragments for Hiro to use in an experiment that he felt would revolutionize the way things were run around here. Literally. His ultimate goal was to make a generator, of whatever strength, that would use Mana Fragments, or other sources of mana, to automate whatever he could make it. His first goal was obviously going to be the generator, working on its own. For this, he needed the Mana Fragments from Midori, parts from around his workshop, and his own ingenuity. His hopes were high, and he was ready to start whenever. But, he needed to take a little while to just make sure that he had all he needed for the prototype. Because, as soon as he could make the prototype work, and have it transfer mana energy from one fragment to the other, and keep the cycle going repeatedly, it would be ready to be used in a majority of whatever else he wanted to create.
Hiro started by standing back up, and looking around at all the parts he had. He had everything he would need for at least the prototype, including the mana fragments. Hiro got the idea to use the mana fragments as a source of replenishing energy, mostly from the research claim by the Embargo Guild Alchemist Tesla, and the idea that one could use a mana fragment to create a self-recharging power source. Since this was true already for normal mana fragments, Stabilized ones would probably have a higher capacity. And, perhaps the transferring of Mana to another fragment by means of Mechanisms. He would need some sort of a tube to connect the mana fragments, so that the power would be shared. This would be the reason for the prototype. The ideal outcome was that there would be the chance of making the mana flow from one crystal to another, and then back and forth, forming a constant stream of mana flowing, which produced energy that one could use to power objects, like engines or generators. Hiro's goal was set, his items were ready, and his body was ready to begin experimenting with Elder Tale's first Mana-Powered Engine!

Hiro started by attempting to make the generator components first, in that he would make use of the Mana Fragments. He made a small base for the crystals to sit in, and then enclosed it using some glass covering in the shape of an egg. He would probably patent that sometime soon, as it might prove to be useful later on in life. But, for now, it didn't really matter all that much. What mattered was that energy could be transferred from one egg to the other. So, Hiro put together some small tubes, attached them to the eggs which had small openings on the sides where the mana could transfer. Before he would try and activate it, though, he needed to make some kind of a machine that would make a noise or something, so he'd know if it worked or not. So he made a music box, that would play a specific song when it worked, when the mana transferred between the eggs and the box.
So, Hiro set up the machine so that it was all on a metal block, so it stayed together and on the same field, so none of the tubes would get crossed together. Hiro made the small music sheet to go with it, put it inside the music box, and set it all up, ready for it to go. He smiled at his creation, and said to himself that it was good. He paused, as he realized just how sacrilegious he was for a moment, shook his head, and continued working. He went to turn the machine on, but he realized that there wasn't a switch or anything to get the mana flowing. So, instead of installing a switch like he should have, he panicked and looked around his workshop for a minute. Maybe he'd need some kind of a magic catalyst to get it working? Maybe he needed someone's magic to turn it on or something? He didn't know for sure, but he thought he'd just go ahead and try something. So, he added a third egg, with a lesser Mana Fragment in it, and put in a place for the switch to go, with an open loop-like construct attached to the switch. Maybe this would work?

Nope. Not quite there yet. The machine was ready to be tested, it was ready to go. But, probably something more was needed. Then, it suddenly hit him. His time in Earth Science class wasn't totally in vain! Mana is like the air pressure, it goes from high to low pressure systems. Since a lesser mana fragment was less dense in mana than a Stabilized Mana Fragment, it would make sense that the energy would probably flow to the lower mana pressure system! This was probably some very basic science, but it would still make sense that it happen like that. This is, of course, considering that mana worked just like air pressure. So, in taking the theory to the test, Hiro detatched the third egg, and disassembled the music box, so that it wouldn't be powered by a wind-up mechanism, but powered by a Mana Fragment. He put the lesser mana fragment next to the central gear in the music box, to get the entire thing moving as one unit, using the mana generated from the lesser fragment. He reassembled it all together, flipped the switch to open the gates on both sides, and...
The music box began to play. Hiro was overjoyed, and listened to the music play as it powered itself. He let it go through the entire 4 minute song, before turning it back off, using the switch on the side. He opened the mechanism back up, and checked the status of the mana fragments, and saw that they were both down to a little below a total of 3/4ths of their energy remaining. This was to be expected, as a music box required only a little work to be done on it in order for it to perform as one decided it to be performed. Hiro held the machine up in the air, and celebrated a bit on his own. Sure, the fragments lost a bit of energy, but energy is converted when work is performed. Another basic rule of science. Hiro shouted in his victory, and was ready to make this happen on a much larger scale, but knew that he probably couldn't for a little while more. For now, though, he had his own little victory, and that was more than enough for the Monk. He put the machine down, and started to ponder what else he could do with it. Eventually, this would lead to much greater machines, like cars and such. But, that would probably be a long time in the future. His immediate goal for the Hot Air Balloon just became all the more possible with this in the hands of the player, and the future looked upwards, to the skies above.
