How to Dress Your Shrine Maiden [Crafting] [Masami SOLO]

Masami took a deep breath as she considered her next task ahead of her. A while back a little girl had approached the tailor asking for a shrine maiden outfit be made for her, at the time Masami was too low level and not confident in the ways of sewing fabric but now after some other crafts the tailor feels like she’s ready to do this one now. Calling in the little girl who made the request Masami began rummaging around her belongings for something to be used as a measuring tape. Finally coming across some string that would serve her purposes the tailor began wrapping it around the small child and holding it up to parts of the girl’s body before quickly writing down the notes on a sheet of paper close by.



After finishing with the measurements Masami set the string down and pulled out another piece of paper as she sat down. “Mind if I ask your name please, miss? As well giving me as many details to work with as possible for your new clothes." Masami said softly and kindly, dipping her pen in an inkwell. “Yeah my name’s Kazuko, well I guess that’s my name now anyway after the Cataclysm." The girl named Kazuko said, her voice just as soft and meek sounding as when she first made the request. “Like I said before I would like a white haori and a red hakama, hopefully it should look something like this." Kazuko continued before pulling a drawing out of her clothes, it looked like a pretty good picture which meant the girl was likely an artisan of some low level. “This will work just fine Kazuko if you don’t mind I’d like to keep the picture and I’ll have your clothes ready shortly." Masami spoke again taking the picture from the Kazuko after the girl had nodded her agreement and began walking away.



With a picture visual to work from and measurements to tailor fit the finished product Masami went to work gathering her materials to get started. Since this craft was different than the usual armor that the tailor worked with before she would need to focus more on how appealing it’ll look visually rather than trying to reinforce it for more defense. This worked just fine for Masami as the girl took great pleasure in having things look nice, cute, beautiful, appealing, and any combinations of those just mentioned.

Studying the picture intently for a few minutes Masami planned out exactly how she was going to go about making this order. With a nod she decided to start with the haori and work from there. The problem with this order was that it wasn’t just her first time making vanity wear for a customer but also the first time making shrine maiden clothes. She remembered seeing them as a little girl living in Japan but there weren’t any here, why would there be, this is London after all or was London rather. Anyway if Kazuko planned to wear this as a shrine maiden of London than it was Masami’s job as a tailor to provide her with the best outfit she could currently make.



Setting to work stitching together the haori Masami noticed small details in the picture like the traces of red fabric underneath the design. Closer inspection revealed it was just the hakama and the tailor breathed a sigh of relief that she didn’t miss something this early. Continuing her work Masami began softly humming a quiet song to herself as she moved around her small stall gathering odds and ends and making stitches into the fabric as the out slowly began to take its shape. However this was still only half of the finished product there was still more to be done but for the haori it was now about finished.



With that finished all that was left was the hakama, standing back Masami took in her work so far before quickly going back to her stitching. According to the drawing this was going to require the most work, or at the very least the most fabric. Overall the outfit seemed to be of a fairly simple design, although this might be due to her growing knowledge and experience making different pieces of cloth items. The sash and upper part would be a very simple task to accomplish but what the girl was doing now was getting all the bottom sewn together and getting it pleated to look nicer. However this was all one article which meant that it all had to be done together with part of it being pleated and the other part being kept clean. When this task would be done though all that would be left would be to have the sash go around the waist and tie it together with a bow string.



Taking a look at the finished product Masami couldn’t help but admire how well the red and white color scheme went together so nicely. It would surely look good over whatever armor Kazuko decides to go with, or not even wear armor with it after all one wears vanity armor because they want to look nice somewhere not because they’re looking for battle in it. Maybe the young girl met a special someone or already opened a shrine somewhere perhaps?

After hanging up the finished outfit out of the way to not get damaged Masami beamed fondly at seeing how well the shrine maiden outfit turned out. Turning away from it though she went into her friends list and called up Kazuko. Well it’s called a “Friends List Ebut to Masami and to several crafters she would guess it was more of a “Client List EAs she would add people to it when they asked her to make something that way it was easier for her to get a hold of the person letting them know their request was completed. Something that she was doing right now with Kazuko.



After a short delay the young girl returned to the booth with a large smile on her face as her eyes went to the finished product. “It’s so wonderful, thank you Masami." Kazuko spoke finally with a bow. “Don’t mention it, it was actually quite fun to make I’m glad you like it." Masami said taking the shrine maiden outfit down. “Mind if I help you put it on to make sure everything’s fitted properly and looks the way you want?" She asked already helping the girl into her new clothes even before Kazuko could finish nodding. After getting everything on the girl Masami began pulling at a few loose pieces of fabric. “Everything seems to look alright just going to do a bit of fine tuning here while you have it on." She spoke somewhat softly as her mind and fingers were already busy pinching fabric, cutting stray threads, and getting the stitchwork to look nicer.



Standing up straight again Masami dusted her knees off and returned to her table. There we go all perfect for you as requested. ”If you want to step over here we can discuss the price and get your paperwork taken care of. I’m not a scribe but I still like to keep records of my clients, you know how it is." Masami said with a small laugh and was met with a simple nod from the young girl already sitting in the chair across from the tailor, small hands clasped in her lap. Passing some papers to the girl Masami spoke again, “Materials were 105 gold pieces since I used the best I had access to for you, labor I had fun with so we’ll just say 45 to make an even number for rounding purposes." While she was talking Kazuko silently listened and looked over the paper before signing. “Mind if I give you a bigger tip for making it look so good? You’re welcome to use whatever you need for your references too." The girl said with a bright smile as she payed for the craft and left.
