| | Oxford's quill pen dangled in his fingertips, lazily twirling the plumed writing instrument around as he sat one of the guild's crafting areas. It was a nicely furnished area, save for the desk in which Oxford had piled tons of books to read as he thought about things to research.
The guild hall was surprisingly slow today, not really hearing a lot of signs of activity except for maybe someone snoring in one of the rooms. He could've sworn he heard the sounds of smithing ringing out from the blacksmiths' craft section, but it didn't really bother him. What bothered him was the fact that he was bored and didn't have anything to do. Sighing to himself, he leaned back in his chair as he stretched his arms and let out a yawn.
"Guess I could get some materials ready for whenever I actually think of something to craft..."
He cleaned off an area of the desk to allow room for his materials, swiping his arm across the desk's surface to knock the books into the floor. Under normal circumstances he'd put them up, but with the lethargic mood he was feeling today, he'd go ahead and mentally put that item on his 'To-Do' list whenever he was done with his crafting.
He pulled out a couple dozen sheets of Old Paper, pulling up his menu to use the in-game crafting commands to go ahead and do all the hard work for him. Moments later, he had a nice fat stack of highest quality Parchment Paper he could muster. The Basic Scribe Seal he'd gotten from Hanelli when they had done a Sarum expedition would allow him to do higher level crafts, but for now, the highest he could do was level 10.
It'd be good if I go ahead and work on my crafting level while I'm at it.
He pulled out the rest of his materials and set them on the desk as well, shutting himself off from the rest of the world as he performed his crafts. People could've walked by him or said hi and Oxford wouldn't even notice.
A tap on the shoulder would be enough to break his concentration if someone was needing the Guardian/Scribe for something. |

Between the Shard and the Paper. The guild house, it’s been a long time since Shepard passed by to say hello or just to see how everything was going, the main reason was because he didn’t had any notice from the others in some time, Kumori, Caer, even Ox, they all kind of disappeared, a pretty weird thing… Shepard tried to avoid any negative thought about why that could have happened, maybe they all were just too busy, Aeryn was indeed a well-known guild and the landers tended to ask for a lot of things, from quests to favors, all sort of matters were solved by us.
By the time I got inside the guild house it was supposed to be 3pm, our “free hour” when we could go and do anything we want inside without being bothered by any lander request (unless it was something urgent, of course). The door squeaked like the usual, but no one was inside the living room, perhaps in the landers receiver? No, neither, but the smell of ink and perhaps some smoke coming out of the crafting room gave him the main clue to where everyone was, so step by step, he made it in there.
For Shepard’s surprise, not many members where there neither, a blacksmith that usually worked there and someone else, the shaman got closer but only could see the brown hair, Oxford perhaps? He got even closer and placed his hand over the guy’s shoulder, appearing to be looking at what the guy had over the desk, but just to see his face, then the wolf talked, confirming that he was indeed Oxford, not many people trapped in there had that brown on their hair, but the shaman knew a few. Looking at the shred papers and the ink tar with a feather in it, he knew what his fellow friend had as crafting subclass.
-Shepard- Hey Oxford, how are you? –He said- I didn’t know you were a scribe; maybe you could give me a hand with something.
But asking for help without offering something in change were impolite, so Shepard ended up with something that might be benefic for both of them, he just gave a look at Oxford’s equipment and noticed he had nothing close to look like an accessory, even if it would help a lot improving his guardian’s skills, even if he already was as good as he is.
-Shepard- And I should give you a hand, I didn’t saw any accessory on you, I’d be glad to do some for you, I need to train alchemy anyway, wouldn’t you mind don’t you?
He took a sit in a bank near him, looking through his inventory and disposing every piece over the desk and trying to making it carefully ordered so everything is on hand, everything, except the shards, he then look at the guardian, rose from the chair and said something to him.
-Shepard- If you want, I could make the accessories from your own mana, so their effect is better on you, but being a guardian, a non-caster class, would make it a bit… unpleasant.
Doing the shards directly from Oxford’s mana would imply perfect sync from the accessories response, but I’d be quite painful for the guardian, as his spells didn’t showed mana manifestation, the process was quite a bit different, but it was something that worth the try.

| | Oxford almost jumped when he felt someone place their hand on his shoulder, thinking that everyone else was off doing other things. Despite Aeryn being one of the more reknown guilds in London/Londenium, it was surprisingly quiet. Looking behind him, he saw the figure of a Wolf-Hair Shaman, clad all in black.
"Oh, hey Shepard."
He let out a small laugh as he heard the second part.
"Yeah, I've been slacking off. Haven't been doing as much crafting as I should've, but yeah, I'm sure I can help you out."
He leaned back in his chair as the Shaman mentioned that the Guardian didn't have any accessories to adorn himself with. He looked up to the ceiling of the room as he thought about what kind of neat stuff to deck out his battle armor with.
Having a cape that perpetually billows in the wind would be pretty nifty...
"Yeah, sure. Just as long as they aren't super gawdy or anything like that."
He watched Shepard take a seat at one of the nearby desks, interested to see what kind of things an Alchemist uses to perform their crafts. The only thing ingredient he was familiar with were Mana Fragments, which he purchased from a vendor to help him research Magic Ink properties. All he'd gotten out of the experiment were ink-covered crystals.
He sat up straight when he heard Shepard mention something about how if he wanted finely-tuned accessories, then the Mana Fragments would have to be shaped from his own mana pool. The Guardian may not have had a lot of MP, but being true to his class's function, he decided he could deal with the pain.
"Eh, it's fine. After tanking hits from field bosses and other monsters, you kinda get used to the pain."
He turned back to his own studies, quickly scribbling out an outline for a Last Will and Testament should things go south. |

Bloody Mana, So Hard to Get. Shepard could not help himself but to chuckle when he saw what his friend was writing down there… It wasn’t that bad… probably… well… perhaps it was that bad, but not so bad to get him killed, he was a tank, wasn’t it? He is supposed to take the pain, at least as much as it takes to get enough mana from him. The wolf leaved everything ready over the table and got closer to his friend, asking him to stand up and equip his gear, so he would be as he normally is in the battle, then spoke.
-Shepard- I’ll need the skills you need to improve, and then you’ll have to make them and sustain them as long as you can so I can take enough mana… It won’t hurt… a lot… maybe… you’ll be fine, perhaps it will burn a little bit, you should be able to take it… I think…
With this told, Shepard got ready and so did Oxford, the first spell was called “Cool Defense”, the shaman has seen this skill before in the battle field, some sort of shield barrier, with the downside of getting the guardian’s mana slowly drained, Shepard should be able to improve the skill and make it more mana effective, so it nullifies more damage for the mana cost, or at least that was the idea itself, the guardian stood up his shield and toggled the skill, with his shield emitting some kind of bright light over, Shepard began the extraction.
-Shepard- Ok Oxford, now, no matter what, do not toggle the skill of, neither move, hold it for a few seconds, ok?
A sphere appeared in the shaman’s hands, which started to shine with the same color of the shield, creating a link to the energy, then blue bright balls became to being extracted from the guardian body, they were little mana concentrations that were ripped of his veins, surely it should cause some pain, and Oxford appeared to confirm that theory with some “HNNNNNG” from time to time, but after a little while, some twenty minutes approximately, the sphere in the shaman’s hands became fully fulfilled and the link broke.
Oxford fell in the ground, it was a big effort for him, and Shepard showed him the sphere, a big mana container, before it became the three shards needed for the crafting, the three shining with some strength, one red, one blue and one white, the colors of blood, determination and the will a guardian need to focus in order to cast that skill, great exemplary indeed, it would work fine for him, what could I craft with them? His glasses looked like something good to begin with, Shepard took the fragments to the desk and began to order everything, even the tool Kumori gave him for a better alchemy craft, modeling mana fragments was something new for Shepard, but he thought of it as an artistic way of doing his job a bit… enjoyable.

| | Oh, all I've gotta do is perform a skill and stand in place? Alright, that doesn't sound so ba--HNNNNNNNNNNNNG
It felt like the Shaman was ripping the life force directly out of the Guardian's body. And it sure didn't feel like he was being gentle about it either.
Sweat dripped down the Guardian's face as he clenched his teeth, wishing he had a stick or a rag to bite down on to help him endure the pain. If he bit any harder, he was sure his teeth were going to crack. And there wasn't a 'Dentist' subclass in Elder Tales either, so he'd either have to walk around with nasty chipped teeth or find a healer that specializes in teeth.
"GRRGH, HOW...MUCH LONGER...DO I HAVE TO...DO THIS?!"
All of a sudden the pain stopped, Oxford falling to the ground in exhaustion and relief, grateful that that painful ordeal was out of the way. Maybe for revenge, he could stab him with a quill and say that his blood is needed to craft a super rare kind of ink.
Ehh, don't know why I'm thinking of stuff like that. I'm getting some rad accessories out of all of this, so can't really complain.
Unless, of course, this was all some sort of sick guild initiation tradition of inflicting mortal pain on the new members. If that were the case, then Oxford would never forgive the Alchemist.
Picking himself up off the floor and setting himself back in his chair, he looked at the container of blue shards, almost appearing as if they were liquid.
Weird. It's like a lava lamp made from my magical blood.
If the operation wasn't so painful, he probably would've asked Shepard to pull another bit of mana out of him so he could use it as a nightlight in his guild room.
He remembered that this exchange was a two way street. He picked up his quill, ready to write down the Alcehmist's answer to his next question.
"So, you said you needed help with something. Anything specific you need crafted or researched?" |
