“Oh boy.” Standing there confused, unsure, and more confused, Ryker scratched the back of his head as he tried to think of what to do next. He had just returned from walking out near the entrance to London and retrieved a few bundles of dry wood from the area. During his little, excursion, he hadn’t exactly looked at any of the pieces. He simply grabbed whatever he could find and carried it back to his small pile beside London’s walls. After about an hour of wandering around, Ryker had gathered a decent amount of usable material. Now came the hard part; what the hell was he supposed to use?

The pile was so large that Ryker had actually lost the few “diamonds in the rough” that he had found while walking around the area. He had also begun to see that his rash decisions had left him basically engulfed in the large pile before him, deterring him from doing anything more with it. He didn’t sort any of it before because he didn’t want to waste any daylight. But, why he worried about that only God knew. The idiot had woken up early in the morning to do what he thought would take half a day; it took him two hours. Now there was plenty of daylight. There was so much daylight that he didn’t know what to do with it all. Maybe he should become a night owl, but then he would have to deal with the monsters. Those troublesome things were far to annoying for him to deal with. Ryker just wanted to do what he liked doing; fish. That was it. Why was that so difficult? Why couldn’t he just have spawned with one?

“Because Fisherman is not a main class.” Ryker sighed as he lowered his shoulders, tilting forward in defeat. Welp, he had got himself into the mess of sorts, no pun intended, so he would get himself out of it. It was either start digging or light a fire which would probably burn the whole forest down. As cool as that spectacle would have been, Ryker had no flint. Digging it was.

“Time to get my stick!” The man popped up after a few moments of defeat and grinned wide. He pulled back his sleeves, cracked his neck, and started grabbing at the pieces of wood before him. The sticks he had gathered varied in size, shape, weight, height, wood, density, moistness, dryness, and color. Though as he pulled and tossed them one by one, he learned that they all shared one trait; USELESS! THEY WERE ALL USELESS!

Stick after stick! Wood after wood! USELESS! Not a single one of the pieces that he grabbed could be mended into a fishing rod! So why did he grab so many?! Was it because of their color? Or maybe because he was blind to their actual uselessness! Oh the idiot! He should have paid more attention. Next time, maybe he should just cut down a tree!

OOC Notes--- Tags@dindeen Ryker Scoria An adventure with a large amount of wood was not the most curious thing in Elder Tale, but it was not exactly inconspicuous either. Every person who passed by the white-haired adventurer and his pile could not help but look at that direction especially with his obvious frustration which seemed to be growing by the minute. What was his purpose for such a hoard anyway? He wasn’t in anyone’s way but the landers could not help but wonder what the adventurer was doing with his wood. As the gods of Elder Tale would have it, Caerbannog was out for her usual walk that day first through St. Pancras Station and eventually to the wider roads of Londenium. Even with Scoria’s forest sprite by her side, it seemed that neither her level nor her association with the bane of landers was enough to keep them off the girl’s back. Maybe it was the schoolgirl thing that she liked to wear, or maybe it was her lack of height that made them push her around; in any case, some curious landers pulled the samurai aside and pushed her towards the frustrated fisherman. “ Uhhh... “ so they wanted a selectively mute girl to talk to the guy? “ Hello... “ That was all that came out of Caerbannog as she was pushed within earshot of the white haired guy. The forest sprite was another matter altogether. She skipped around the pile of wood and looked over a few pieces which the other adventurer had already thrown to the side. What was she doing exactly? Who knows. Even Scoria probably would not have known. “ Why so much wood? “ the Alraune asked bluntly. Oh no, the baby walked up to a complete stranger. Then again, the sprite had no qualms about calling the samurai ‘Auntie’ after just a few meetings so yeah, not a surprise. Caerbannog thought it rude to butt into other people’s business, but she was not one to scold children. The wolf-hair merely picked up the sprite and gave it the usual piggyback ride. “ Sorry, “ she said and would have nodded at the wood gatherer once she caught his attention, “ Need any help? “ WC: 365 || Code by Neun of ET. The druid had shown his face back in London after some time wobbling around and going here and there, doing a little personal research on how minimaps worked and how the world interacted with the interface. It hadn't been particularly draining, but it was somewhat solitary and a little boring. When was his musical instrument order going to come through already? At this point, he'd kill for a good instrument. Stupid bards with their automatic instrument nonsense. If he were to be absolutely truthful, he had actually been helping a Lander out in reforming the landscape and cutting down some trees. Not exactly his area of expertise, being neither a gardener nor a woodcrafter, but the druid in question didn't mind a little hard work. It built some solid muscle and everyone could use a little solid muscle.

He had come back from the Greatwood after doing some work, only to spot some other individual gathering wood. Wait. Wait, were Scoria's eyes deceiving him? It was finally someone who was short. Oh thank the gods, the druid had started to fear that even at his rather tall height of 180 centimeters, he'd still be on the short side in comparison to all these other adventurers. It was like everyone needed to compensate for something. Because everyone could theoretically model their own character however they wanted to start, having a somewhat short character, even unintentionally, was worth noticing. And almost as if birds of a kind flocked together, Scoria managed to spot Caerbannog and Alraune. The main thing he noted was that Landers were once more shoving her around and telling her to do things. Even at as high a level as she was now, she was still getting pushed around, huh?

The player walked over with a rather soft set of steps and put one hand on the nearest Lander's shoulder, glaring at them like he glared at everyone. While it might not have been as effective as one would hope for an ordinary person, Scoria was no ordinary individual. His glares were patented, forged in the fires of Mount Doom, practiced over years and years, and most importantly, backed by an unreasonable Courtesan subclass level. That single glare was enough to send the Landers scattering away, leaving Scoria to his own devices. Those devices, namely, were walking up to figure out what his singular friend and his familiar were up to. One hand swung a woodaxe lightly, while the other rested to his side as he moved forward, glancing at the trio. A moment later, Scoria opened his mouth to speak, commenting on how Alraune hadn't pulled out her usual nicknames.

“Nope.” Ryker spat as he threw one of the sticks he had previously grabbed behind him, negligently throwing the thing away from himself and out of sight. He didn’t care where it went, just as long as it wasn’t in the pile in front of him. Though, just as he threw it, he stopped digging and then stood up straight. His left eye twitched; concern. Was that…. Was that stick one of the… No… No it wasn’t. Was it? Ryker looked over his shoulder and paused when he looked at what he had subconsciously done. All around the area behind him, the Fisherman had thrown sticks everywhere. No spot was spared from his frustration, however there were way too many sticks behind him now to care about fixing it. Unless someone else wanted to do it, those sticks were going to stay. Such an invasive species, those sticks.

“Double nope.” As quickly as he had looked behind him, Ryker removed the second mess he had created from his mind and returned to the first one. He grumbled at the sight but he continued anyways. The man crouched down and dug a little faster into the middle of the lower side of the pile, quickly checking over every stick before just as quickly dispelling it into the space behind him. Ryker wondered if he had killed any bugs in the process of throwing stuff… Maybe. Poor bastards.

“What the…” The man pulled out a stick which was long, slender, and very light. However that wasn’t what concerned him. What made him stop was the fact that the stick split near the top into an awkward V-Shape. Who in their right mind would grab such a thing when looking for a fishing pole? Was he going nuts? He needed to see a one of those sycionalogists, or whatever they were called. He knew them as the people who fixed brain things and listened to people’s stories, though he had never seen one. That was probably for the best.

“Nope.” The V-Stick was disposed of and Ryker was on the verge of returning to his digging when he heard movement to his left. His ears wiggled in response and his eyes shifted a little as he noticed something to his left; color. Color that wasn’t green. When he looked over, he saw a girl standing there, a school girl, a cute school girl at that. Wait; there was school in this game? What? No. Ryker hadn’t even seen enough children for that thing! Maybe it was a fetish. He wouldn’t judge. He had his own problems. At least she said hello, even if it was very quiet. Having keen hearing really did help when talking to quiet people.

Ryker stood up and smiled in response to the new arrival, but he didn’t have a chance to speak. Her tiny companion was invaded his space. Strange thing, he could have punted it but that probably would have made the girl upset. That wouldn’t have been good. Yet, maybe he should have. The little thing was a little more straight forward. It hadn’t said hello and it was questioning his antics! What is this? Twenty questions? Ryker hadn’t agreed to play that game! Even so, he would win it if there was such thing as winning at that strange game. What were the rules anyways?

“Good morning milady and her little sprite companion! Or afternoon! I can’t tell.” Ryker spoke happily and bowed slightly for a few moments before he grabbed one of the sticks and wiggled it in the direction of the sprite creature. He chuckled a little as he did so and smirked.

“This wood is for something special! Something cool! And something that I have been unable to find whether it has been because of me being too stupid to do so, or because it doesn’t exist in this world.” Ryker rambled a little and his voice picked up speed as he reached the end of his statement. It was frustrating being unable to find a fishing pole, to the point that he had spent nearly three hours of his life trying to just get the materials to make one!

“It’s for a fishing pole.” With that, Ryker checked the stick he held before chucking it. Useless. Again. The usual. As expected. Next. The man turned to the pile and grabbed another stick when the female apologized to him. His eyebrows rose and he stood up. His ears wiggled a little.

“Do not apologize, miss.” Ryker extended the stick outwards and up, wiggling the leafy end of the wooden object near her nose.

“You did nothing wrong but coming here, but if you wish to make it up to me, I will take your offer of assistance!” Ryker grinned, but his smile vanished when another person appeared. This one was male, and he looked to be on the more aggressive side. Though, again, Ryker was not one to judge. This man held an axe, stood nearly two feet above Ryker, and seemed to have known the school girl. Cool!

“’Ello sar! Welcome to the party. Would you like to assist me too?” Ryker redirected the end of his leafy stick and turned it to point at the new face. There, he began to wiggle the leafs again.

“My name is Ryker. Cleric main class, Fisherman and Woodcrafter are my subclasses. Wish Fisherman was my main class, but not everything is perfect! Not even these sticks. Damned things. Nothing is ever a one-and-done now is it?” After wiggling his stick a little more at the newcomers, Ryker tossed it and returned to scrounging through the pile.

StatusDense. OOC Notes--- Tags@dindeen Ryker Scoria What was it about wolf-hair, foxtails and werecats? Whenever Caerbannog saw one of their kind, she instantly thought “aaaaaaaw cute!”; maybe it was the ears, the fluffy tail, or just the idea that those races were part-fluffiness. That was one of the reasons why she chose her own race, though unlike other wolf-hair adventurers, her own racial features were mostly hidden until battle lust took over. The cleric was fluffy, polite and comfortably chatty; he’d probably make it big in this world, thought Kyuu. “ CHUU~! “ the samurai sneezed when leaves were wiggled close to her nose; so rude of her, but at least she was able to cover half her face as she let out that reaction, “ ‘scuse me. “ Then suddenly, Scoria. Oh, Scoria AND his axe. If the samurai was anyone else who had known the druid before, they’d probably ask him something along the lines of “killed any landers lately?” or anything similar that might have actually gotten them killed. But Caerbannog was different. She merely put her hand down and cleaned it on her skirt (gross), and then she nodded at the glaring druid. “ WOOD TURTLE! “ the forest sprite exclaimed so suddenly as she pointed at the cleric Ryker. Caerbannog looked at the frustrated fisherman. He seemed rather enthusiastic for someone who’d just met Hourai-san; almost everyone else stayed away from him or at least avoided his glare. The cleric seemed to be one of those genuinely chipper people. Either Scoria would be able to tolerate him and find his antics mildly amusing; or the druid would hate him and send landers to gnaw out his neck. Maybe it was not a good idea to bring the two to- “ Needs help, find materials for fishing pole. “ Goddammit Caerbannog. I was still typing you know? Whatever. Seeing as Scoria had that woodaxe, the samurai assumed that he knew something about wood types and related materials. She went ahead and sent a party request to both men, against the RPer’s better judgment, and really expected them to accept it. “ Speedy Turtle help Wood Turtle with his wood? “ the forest sprite inappropriately asked. Scoria's glaring expression did not falter in the least when Ryker wobbled a branch inches from his nose. He might have briefly debated snapping the branch in half, but he was trying to be helpful and change. Wait, no he wasn't. Scoria's hand shifted, only to note that the wiggling stick had moved away and had been tossed to the side. A little too late for blatant hostility. At any rate, the entire thing seemed relatively simple. This guy wanted a fishing pole and needed to find the appropriate wood type for it. Pretty straightforward. Scoria's axe spun lazily in one hand as he let the conversation ride itself out. It seemed like spending time with @dindeen hadn't made his familiar any less of a cheeky brat than before, but he figured that was to be expected. Caer didn't really seem to be the serious reprimanding type anyway. And hey, Ryker had a nickname now, which meant that Alraune wasn't going to try to trip or throttle him.

He really wasn't surprised that Caer enlisted herself in helping someone else at this point. From all the things he knew of her, she was absolutely the type to get herself involved. Sometimes by accident, sometimes not, but she was very easily pushed around and coerced into 'participating'. His glare deepened as he leveled it at Ryker, not even the shallowest hint of a smile gracing his features. There was just fire and brimstone and death in that stare. Chatty, wasn't he? Although if he loved fishing so much, why wasn't chef his main class? Make bait and such? Maybe tailor for nets? Well, it was each person's choice anyway. Swinging the axe lazily around and then resting it on his shoulder, Scoria glared in the direction of the forest. It was London so and this guy just wanted to fish and probably be relaxed about it, so there was no need to consider specialized fishing. He probably just wanted something simple and normal. In that case...

"Ash wood then?" Ash trees, the whole group of them, tended to have quite a number of uses. From firewood to bows and arrows, even that oh-so-special fishing pole that Ryker clearly wanted. And the best part about ash wood was that it was more like a family of trees and Scoria knew for certain that he had seen at least one or two in his travels around London. If Ryker had collected that much wood, then maybe he had something to work with? Otherwise, it would be a simple matter to find some ash wood in the forest. Assuming Ryker knew what it looked like. Taking a trip to the library to show the man would be far too painful. The glaring druid raised an eyebrow at Ryker with his suggestion, standing sideways and staring off into the forest. The towering druid kept Caer and Ryker to one side and everyone else on the other, glaring at any Lander who approached with stupid complaints and quiet mutterings. No guts, the lot of them.

Wood Turtle. Wood… Turtle… Wood Turtle? Wood Turtle. The name slash exclamation of a name ran through Ryker’s mind for several seconds as he continued to dig at the wood pile in front of him. After tossing a handful of wooden pieces out of the pile and elsewhere onto the ground, Ryker stood back up and wiggled his nose. He looked over to his left briefly, checking to see if the other players were still standing there, and then looked back at his pile. Though, his neck snapped and he looked back over to his left at the sprite creature. It was pointing at… him? Wait, that meant… He was… the Wood Turtle? HE HAD A SHELL?! No, it was probably just a nickname. Right? Sure, let’s go with that. Ryker hadn’t been with these new faces for very long and he already had a nickname. How interesting.

“Yes, I am a Wood Turtle. Fear my solid shell of nature.” Ryker threw three more sticks as he spoke and rumbled a little to himself out of irritation. He swore he had a lot more usable pieces of wood in the pile. That was why he had gathered so many! The question he had was where they all went. It was as if everything he gathered had been replaced with a pile of useless garbage, placed there just to buy time for the true thief to get away with the goods. That would have taken time though, making it nearly impossible. Yup, Ryker was going a little insane. Focus! Why was finding a stick so difficult anyways? There was wood everywhere.

To his left, the school girl spoke in some sort of silent, broken English. Her quiet tone made Ryker a little curious about her, but it was her inability to put together a full sentence that made him stare more. Her words were almost robotic in form, even if she spoke a little more emotionally than monotone, and it made him wonder; did she have some kind of mental condition? Did she have difficulties speaking in general? Maybe she didn’t do well talking to strangers? Who knows, Ryker didn’t. It was weird to hear that kind of speech, but Ryker just shrugged it off and filled in the gaps himself. And then the Sprite began to speak again. It seemed that there were multiple turtles. So far, he knew of two; Speedy and Wood. Ryker was the Wood Turtle and he couldn’t really pinpoint which of the other two Adventurers were Speedy. Weird thing, Ryker wanted one. For now, he needed a fishing pole. Other stuff would have to come later.

“Oh boy, I’m getting help with my wood!” Ryker chuckled at the statement and turned around his heels as he pulled a longer stick out of the pile. He could have used that one, but it was cracked in the middle that rendered the stick useless. The fisherman grumbled at the sight, blaming it on his inability to handle the merchandise without damaging it, and then tossed the piece of wood off to the side. Just as he threw it, he noticed the angry-looking male was looking towards the forest. Maybe he had seen something? Oh please say that you had, angry person.

The words which came out of the man’s mouth though made Ryker pause. The fisherman straightened up and looked towards the forest. Ash wood. That was the other man’s suggestion. For a moment, Ryker wanted to call himself an idiot for not thinking of that initially, but he held his own tongue on himself. He had thought of the world he was in as a game, not as a new reality. Initially Ryker was just going to turn a decent looking piece of wood into a pole, but at the potential expense of its durability. If the world around him was a realistic as it looked, than maybe real world knowledge would work in it. With that being the case, Ryker grinned wide.

“Genius.” Ryker grabbed one more stick out from the pile he had created and used it as a toy to play with as he headed towards the forest. He wiggled it and twirled it around between his fingers just to entertain himself. Yes, it was indeed a genius thought. Rather than pick up scraps, he probably should actually look at the trees as he had yelled himself at for not searching before!

“Ash trees and Yew trees! Those are what I must find! Gods, what was I thinking. With those, I can make a strong enough rod to catch even the biggest of fish in this area! With the right bait of course… but that will be for later. The rod comes first!” Yes, the rod always comes first…

And off they went. It seemed that Ryker was, at least, relatively receptive to ideas from other people. Not only that, the player seemed to be able to throw his own ideas into the mix, all of which was a pretty good thing. Still, Scoria couldn't help but wonder if he was intentionally making innuendos or not. The druid glared sharply and Ryker and 'humph'ed, glancing again into the forest. Yew wood, huh? Different family, but it wasn't a terribly bad idea. If it was a yew, then it had to be the European Yew, perhaps one of the most common types. That was the one that would most likely be endemic to London and therefore Londenium. Nodding to himself, he turned to Ryker and handed over the woodaxe in his hands. "If you're making yourself a bow, then choose a piece of wood you like with your own hands. Personal satisfaction seems to be your goal."

That much was easy to ascertain from the way Ryker spoke. He wanted a fishing rod that he could use to fish with for his own purposes and, as such, he'd need to be picking out the wood himself. After all, it was going to be his item and probably serve him well for quite a great while. Nodding to himself, Scoria turned to Caerbannog and Alraune and raised an eyebrow. Hopefully, they were coming along. "Off we go then. Adventure is out there." The monotone way he said it almost seemed to be mocking in its quality, but who would have guessed that it was an Up reference? It wasn't like Scoria was the type. At any rate, if Ryker was a sociopath, then the best thing to do would be to have Caer along. That way, when Scoria's internal organs spilled across the floor, there'd be witnesses. Glaring sharply and walking towards the forest, the druid glanced over his shoulder once, then walked with purpose.

The next moment, his Unfounded Kingdom Map was in his hands, pulled up a fair bit with various notes scribbled on it. He had the habit of marking things every so often and, especially when he was in the forest, he tended to mark down landmarks. He had halfway jokingly written 'World Tree' somewhere in the forest for a rather massive tree he had stumbled across once, and as the legends said, Yggdrasil was an ash tree. So that was the direction they were taking, though he suspected they'd find other ash trees before they got even a quarter the distance there. Confirming his 'destination', the druid stowed the map and walked naturally, stepping over and platforming his way past the higher and higher roots, almost as if he was used to it. That was, in some sense, what it meant to be a druid. Turning his head around, he glared at Ryker, @dindeen, and the forest sprite, checking to make sure they were keeping up. If they didn't, he'd slow his pace, but the glaring was nonstop. There was plenty of interesting flora all around the area if you knew where to look. "We'll see a decent ash tree soon, most likely." In about 5 minutes of moving, the trees that Ryker was looking for made their appearance. Scoria had a warning, though.

"Be deliberate. I know the difference between scraps and fresh wood. Choose what you like, but choose with care. The forest gives up its life for you." Man, he sounded more and more like a druid every passing second. Had he been watching too much Nausicaa or something? Geez.

StatusTrippy. OOC Notes--- Tags@dindeen Ryker Scoria Wow, Ryker really liked talking about his wood. The samurai, unfortunately, could not relate to what he and Scoria were discussing because she had never handled wood all her life (wink). The forest sprite put her arms around Caerbannog’s neck as soon as the cleric took the initiative to start their search for that elusive material. The wolf-hair looked up at Scoria when he glared at her; it was rather odd for him to help a stranger but then she remembered that he had that woodaxe, and so maybe he was going out to look for materials for his own items. Yea, that was it. There was no way that Hourai-san would actually help anyone out of the kindness of his heart, right? With that rationalization in mind, which for some reason made more sense to the samurai, she ran after the other two adventurers. The cleric was Level 1, a bit enthusiastic to die so it seemed for he already gathered a lot of wood by himself and then was willingly going back into that dangerous area; Caerbannog was a tank though and so she would not let anyone die on her watch, no matter his level, especially not the party healer. What was that ‘rule’ which she learned while playing MMOs? If the tank dies, it’s the healer’s fault; if the healer dies, it’s the tank’s fault; if the DPS die, it’s their fault. It was not applicable in all situations, but mostly it emphasized the responsibility of the tank for the healer’s well-being. And would you look at that, the samurai was in a party with not one but two healers! By and by, she struggled a bit to keep up due to the numerous roots and things in the way. For Scoria, all it took was a step to get over the protrusions but for Caerbannog, she had to hop up and jump over the things. At one point she tripped but a tree to the face caught her fall. The wolf-hair backed away from her savior and rubbed her nose vigorously. She then looked up at the Alraune to check if she was okay, and was relieved that the baby was just fine. “ Speedy Turtle can’t be speedy here huh? “ the forest sprite noted in an almost pitying tone. To lessen the burden on the adventurer, the Alraune so kindly hopped off the girl’s back and took her Auntie’s hand instead. So sweet; who would ever hate or hurt such a cutie? Caerbannog rubbed her nose a bit more as they walked towards Hourai-san who seemed to have found the tree that Ryker needed. He was gracious enough to have lent the woodaxe already, and then he actually found a tree for the cleric. “Hm…” Ryker crossed his arms over his chest, pulling the robe he wore a little tighter around his body as he thought to himself what he should exactly look for. The man needed a fishing rod, but how long should it be? The one he had in reality was around five foot, taller than he was, and it was about a medium-weight. He didn’t use a spindle, even though he should have, and the string he had was made of nylon but getting that material in this world would be difficult. Right? Maybe? Ryker wiggled his nose a little at the thought and he could feel his tail swish beneath the robe, but the man quickly got that under control and kept it still. Damned thing. One mistake and now he was one of the foxes he had to sometimes bicker with to keep away from his catch. Technology was annoying.

As he began to think to himself, Ryker’s ears perked up to the sound of the other man turning to face him. As Ryker looked up and over, the Adventurer also extended his woodcutting axe towards him. Although there was no real smile or joyous will to really exchange the tool, so it made Ryker feel a little strange to take the thing. Yet he chose to not say anything about that. Everyone had their own personalities and if being harsh all the time was this fellow’s way of living with it, so be it. Ryker on the other hand smiled and bowed his head a little to the other man, happy to receive the tool as he did not have one of his own. Maybe that was why he didn’t go after trees and just grabbed scraps. Weird, Ryker should have got an axe first. It would have made things easier.

“Thank you kindly, Sir! I shall return it to you after this.” Wiggling the axe between his hands, Ryker felt the weight of the tool and then gripped onto the handle a few times as to get comfortable holding it. Another light chuckle escaped his lips as Ryker turned away from the other player. Swinging his arms a little, the little man chopped at the air. His ears wiggled a little because of how fun it was.

Making his way steadily into the forest, now armed with a feared weapon of all the trees around him, Ryker hummed softly to himself and let his mind relax. He lowered his eye lids as he did so and stood up straight so he could see a little further than if he slouched. He breathed deep, taking in the gentle breeze which carried a mix of beautiful scents from all around, and listened to the sounds of the virtual, natural, world nearby. While he walked, he did not look at any of the trees he passed and let his feet lead him forward passed dozens of the living towers of greenery. The best part about nature was that she provided for those who asked, and even if the world around him was not real he did not doubt that there was a being somewhere looking over the world. At least, that was what he believed.

“Yes Mother I know you’re there…” Ryker whispered to himself as he walked carefully over an exposed root, nearly being forced to climb over the thing from its size. His smile faded a little and he breathed a little lighter. He pulled his ears back slightly as he mumbled.

“Watching over me from far out there…” The Fisherman lifted the wood axe he held over his shoulders and hooked his arms around the handle as if he was being detained or was carrying two heavy water buckets. It was a little more comfortable to carry the thing that way than let it dangle.

“From beyond the horizon where I cannot see, taking care of little ol’ me.” Lowering his voice a little more, Ryker grinned softly and took a moment to breathe. The air was so crisp here in this world. It was refreshing and made him feel even more alive than ever before.

“Guiding me back to my place at sea…” Inside, Ryker couldn’t help but want to go to the water’s edge where he felt that he belonged, but he would have to be patient. Nature was in no rush nor should he be; so he kept walking. The man pushed his lips together, held his tongue, and stopped reciting. He quieted down as he navigated the forest floor and focused on keeping the pace of the other two Adventurers. Then, Ryker heard the pecking of a tree. At the noise, the fox ears he tried to control perked straight up and his eyes opened a little. That was when he saw them, and it was thanks to other male Adventurer.

There, just a little bit more ahead of where the three Adventurers were was a small collection of trees, Ash trees, spread out in a small area. There were some other trees mixed in but Ryker’s eyes were set on the slightly greyed barked towers. They were strong, flexible, and if he searched well enough he could get a medium-weighted pole. If not, than he would settle for whatever nature provided for him. Actually finding one of the things was already more than he could ask for.

“Thank you, friend.” Ryker said aloud as he walked towards the area with the ash trees. He laughed a little in his throat and placed a hand on the bark of the first tree he reached. Being careful now was an understatement… He would have to be more than careful. Nature was strong, powerful, and frightening to some, but she was the most delicate and gentle woman Ryker had ever fallen in love with. Well, she was the only woman he had fallen in love with but that was beside the point.


“Let's see here…” Running his hand over the tree, Ryker felt its warmth and closed his eyes a little as he patted the bark. Then, his eyes went up and he began to scan the leaf-filled air above him. The branches were a little bit further out of reach than Ryker would have liked, but he didn’t feel like walking for too much longer.

The Fisherman tucked the woodcutting axe into his cloth belt and tightened it against him. With it secure, he hopped up onto a root and used it like a step as he lifted himself a little higher off the ground. Gripping onto the tree, Ryker got a firm hold and then lifted himself a little higher so he could grip onto the lowest branch. He grunted a little and wiggled his feet in the air as he lost his footing on the tree’s trunk. Though, with a deep breath and a hard pull, the man lifted himself onto the branch. From there, he went up one more and then maneuvered as safely as he could through the branches in search of his diamond.

“Now then, my dear… let us see what gifts you have for me today…” Ryker chuckled a little and made sure to watch his step. He hadn’t made his own fishing pole in a long time.

Oi. Ryker wasn't assuming that Scoria was just going to lend the man his gear for freeeeeeeee, right? The cleric would have to pay the rental fee once he got back down. It was entrapment? It was deceit? Yeah Scoria didn't give a damn. The player simply sat there on the nearest root and leaned back, keeping his eyes up into the tree above so as to make sure that the axe wouldn't accidentally come tumbling down to slice his head in two. That... that would probably have been pretty bad. Ryker's quiet humming and singing didn't really bother the player much, but he didn't particularly enjoy it either. He just took it as part of the clearly waaaaaaay too happy cleric's personality and decided that perhaps sitting underneath that particular tree was not the smartest move.

Shifting over to another tree and finding himself a proper seat, Scoria patted next to him if Alraune wanted to sit down. If she didn't, that was no big deal either. The glaring druid just continued to glare and stare and wait for Ryker to figure out what in the hells kind of branch he wanted for his fishing pole. Scoria had done his job as a druid. All that was left now was to relax and let @dindeen take watch, keeping an eye on the trees. If Ryker fell, Scoria didn't really want to bother catching him, but the druid might have to. Ugh. Adopting a posture that was half-relaxed and half ready to spring into action, Scoria did the only thing he could do while he waited. While Caerbannog acted as the lookout and Alraune did whatever it was crazy, precocious forest sprites did, Scoria was Caerbannog's lookout. It wasn't because he understood the mentality of healer-tank interactions, but instead because he wasn't about to let that particular player die. And Ryker's continued existence was safeguarded for the same reason.

Status... OOC Notes--- Tags@dindeen Ryker Scoria Caerbannog stood a safe distance away from flying branches, barks and axes while the two guys did whatever with their wood. She understood the concept of woodcrafting at least and much like culinarian, its materials could be obtained from the wild. However, aside from tree materials which could be cooked or used as garnish, the samurai knew next to nothing about the taller-than-her flora. It was a good thing that Scoria appeared, the druid that he was. Because druids were close to nature, right? Or something similar. The coast was clear for the most part though an adventurer did pass by; he screamed as he ran and apparently he was being chased by a group of angry frenmic rabbits. Was that Fallash? The samurai tried to make out his appearance but the adventurer passed by so quickly that she was unable to ascertain his identity. With that out of the way, she turned to Ryker who seemed to be talking to his wood. A bit odd, but hey everyone had their own thing. The cleric talked a lot while the samurai talked a little, and Scoria glared at everyone. With three adventurers and a forest sprite near those trees, the wild creatures of Elder Tale knew to stay away. And the Alraune, of course, did what little forest sprites do. She flipped Caerbannog’s skirt, giggled and then ran away. The wolf-hair merely turned around and looked at the little one with a surprised expression; not angry or upset though. Ryker chuckled to himself as he started to inch out very slowly towards the edge of a once-thick branch. It was a bit higher up in the tree than he had wanted to go but he had been quite attracted to what the branch had attached to it. Near the extended tip, there were three long pieces of wood sticking out of the main limb and each of them were covered with leaves and mini-knots. Yet with a sharp knife and a careful flick, Ryker knew he would be able to get those out. All he needed… was to reach… the sticks… Nice and easy, one foot in front of the other… The man’s tail began to wiggle again, but he let it do so as it kept him a little more balanced than he would have been. He would need that balance.

“There we go…” Ryker whispered to himself as he lowered himself to the wood platform beneath his feet. Planting one knee on its center, Ryker turned himself sideways a little and put his target right in front of him. He needed to be careful now, and he was. At the base of the woody extension which protruded from the main limb, Ryker tapped the sharp end of the borrowed axe. At first, he didn’t do much damage but as he became more courageous and trusted in his own balance, a steady cut began to grow. Ryker hit the base of the stick with one whack after another until the stick popped off and into his free hand. The Fisherman grinned and deposited the material into his inventory, leaves and all.

“One down...” Moving slowly to his right, and further out onto the branch, Ryker shuffled to the next stick. Once again, he chipped away at the base and did so with a tender motion. There was even less of a base beneath him where he was and the branch was beginning to shake a little. Yet just like the first stick, the second was amputated after a few seconds of being struck. The third stick however, was a bit more of a pain.

Kneeling out on the near-edge of a high branch was not something Ryker liked the idea of, and neither did his body. Even though he was practically hugging the branch, he could not help but think about what may happen if he fell. Would he die? Or would he just break a limb? Could he even break a limp here? It was frightening to think about being put in pain over a simple material, but it wasn’t like he could get a better material elsewhere. There was always a price to getting something and there was always an amount someone was willing to pay. For Ryker, Fishing was more than a skill or a hobby. It was his life, and he would give it if it meant feeding himself or someone else.

“Almost done.” The reassuring statement did little to calm the scared fox, but it gave him enough to get him to focus on the stick and not the fall. With the axe in hand, Ryker quickly began to chip away at the base of the stick until it finally popped free. He didn’t spend any time depositing it into his inventory like the others but instead he bolted back across the branch to the trunk. The massive limb shook and flailed under his feet until he reached more solid ground. At one point, Ryker thought the thing would snap because of a loud groan, but it held. Once he was safe against the trunk, that was when Ryker deposited the material. A happy smile crossed the man’s face as he started his descent; he hopped carefully from one branch to the next and slid down the trunk of the tree.

Upon reaching the base, Ryker huffed and hopped a little as to keep his knees from locking up. They were a little shaken up from the height-scare, as was his whole body, but now he was on the ground. There was no need to be afraid.

“Thanks for letting me use the axe, Fellow Adventurer.” Ryker said as he flipped the axe into the air, catching the back of the metallic end while extending the handle out towards the male Adventurer whom had allowed him to use it. As he held it there, Ryker turned his attention to the woman.

“And thank you, milady, for ensuring I was not turned into lunch for some random angered woodland beast. I’m not exactly prone to violence but my luck has never proved to be great.” A very uneasy laugh escaped unexpectedly from Ryker’s chest as he stood there, but he was genuinely thankful for the assistance of the two adventurers. If it wasn’t for them, he probably would have been digging through that pile of wood still. What would have probably taken him two hours only took him twenty minutes, so now he had plenty of time to actually turn the wooden sticks into rods. After that, maybe he would have enough time to actually use them! Oh the joys of potential and the mystery of the unknown!.

Oh no. Ooooooooh no. Scoria bonked the forest sprite on the head and scowled down at her. There would be none of that hijinks and shenaniganizing while terrorizing other players. Well, to be more accurate, Scoria expected the brat to take responsibility for her shenaniganizing of other people. If she was going to start flipping skirts and grow up to be a perv, then Scoria would be taking zero percent of the blame. Jerking his thumb towards Kyuu and glaring, Scoria drew a line across his neck with his thumb and jerked his head once. The little forest brat harumphed and crossed her arms as if she had done nothing wrong, but Scoria was having none of that. He gave her a solid thump on the back and shoved her off the branch until she stumbled forward to @dindeen. Sheepishly and a little uncharacteristically, the forest sprite dipped her head down in a strangely Scoria-like maneuver and muttered an apology. Good for her.

In almost no time at all (actually it had taken quite a bit of time and Scoria had gotten a little bored), Ryker was back down on the ground. The druid's eyes kept glancing up at the cleric as if to make sure he didn't suddenly fall down from the sky, so when the snow-haired player returned to the earth, it was appreciated. Right up until the man flipped the axe in his hands, causing Scoria to glare warily. That wasn't exactly... safe. With that on his mind, Scoria firmly grasped the handle and muttered a "thanks" quietly, practicing proper blade handling procedure. It was a habit he had picked up that he had never quite let go, and in doing so, he had forgotten the most important thing. To extort Ryker for money for using Scoria's axe. And now the opportunity had been missed. Shoot. Well, he could at least get something out of Ryker. "What do you intend to do with the wood you've already gathered?" It was as valid a question as any, even if their little mini-adventure was going to come to a close very soon. It was something.

Status Wary of weasels. OOC Notes--- Tags@dindeen Ryker Scoria It seemed that the sprite’s antics did not go unnoticed for the druid soon glared at his own summon, and without as much as a word, he was able to make the Alraune apologize. Had it been a different adventurer, they probably would have demanded a spoken apology, but the other person was Caerbannog. The samurai herself rarely spoke and mostly communicated through gestures and broken sentences, so she was not keen on asking improbably things such as whole statements from other people. Moreover, the one who was apologizing was the cute little baby forest sprite; if anyone else had scolded her that way, Caerbannog would have punched the lights out of said person. However, the person who demanded the sprite’s apology was her own summoner and so he had every right to disciple her. “Ah! Donmai!” came her weird slang, and Caerbannog also dipped her head towards the forest sprite for whatever reason. When she looked back up to check on the druid and the cleric, Ryker’s antics almost gave her a heart attack. Never mind that he was Level 1, why was he so high up there with a sharp object in his hands? A rhetorical question but still... when if he fell and broke his neck? Or what if he slipped and chopped off his own arm? Or what if lightning struck the tree and burned him to a crisp? The samurai was rather worried and so she forgot about the skirt flipping incident. At that moment she could only watch in both awe and horror as the cleric made his way down after he procured what he needed from the tree. The men then exchanged words as Ryker returned the druid’s tool. Caerbannog’s eyes were on the cleric for a while; he talked a lot and was very cheerful- again, was that normal? Perhaps she was just not used to it having been surrounded mostly by introverts. As for Scoria, he seemed to be, what’s the word for it... not as ‘glare-y’ as usual. He asked a question that was relevant to the situation too. With that in her mind, the samurai almost missed Ryker’s words of gratitude. To that, the wolf-hair simply replied with a nod and an almost whispered “You’re welcome”. While daylight was still brilliant overhead, Caerbannog thought it best to head back to the safely of the walls of Londinium. With that in mind, she walked over to the little sprite and took her hand, and then she motioned for the men to follow her out of the woods. They could talk on the way back to town; she wouldn’t let them out in the wilds when even a weasel could murder them on sight, though she would not exactly stand around and do nothing either if one such creature did appear. Ah yes, a mission completed and materials gathered! Yes, Ryker was a happy man now that he could create a fishing rod to use, and he beamed with joy as he considered what kind of rod he could make. Of course the rods would still be fishing rods, most likely fly rods, but what kind of personality could he give them? Maybe he could paint one red and carve a certain design into it just to make it look fancy. Maybe with another he could make it a glossy white with black colored hooks for a yin-yang style of fishing. Or maybe… Maybe he should focus. The man derailed for a moment and found that his tail wiggled in its hidden place beneath his clothes and his ears were twitching as he essentially drooled at the thought of going to the water with a mini-arsenal he would be using to combat the fish living in the zone. He needed to focus. He was with people, for a change, in the game. There was no time for internal conflicts!

“The wood pile?” The other male Adventurer having a query about the wood Ryker had previously gathered was not too much of a surprise. Ryker himself didn’t know what he was going to do with it, but as he started to follow the female player he started to consider what use it all could have. With such a bundle he could make a lot of tools for fishing and could mend the wood into dozens of little treasures. With a careful hand, Ryker could turn the slimmer pieces into arrows for other players to use, and with the thicker ones he could make wooden sculptures or toys for the children of the game who may have been trapped. However, he would have to take his time and find time to really dig into the pile to figure out what he could do with all of it.

“For now I’ll probably stow it away. As a Woodcrafter, having a large amount of wood around could prove useful later on. My adventure has just begun for the most part so much of what is there I will most likely form into tools for my trade. The rest I will use as materials in future projects.” A long sigh escaped Ryker’s mouth as he lifted his arms above his head. He locked his fingers together and then rested his head into the small basket, shutting his eyes for a moment as he walked.

“Do you have an interest in my wood, Mr. Adventurer?” As he asked, a grin crossed Ryker’s face. He chuckled softly to himself and then opened one eye, staring up at the other player as he walked. The other man had a strange air about him but Ryker was not one to assume anyone’s intentions. The fact that the school girl was comfortable around Ryker told him one thing; if this guy was dumb enough to do something, he probably would have done it already. However, if he was smart enough to plan something else, than it would be something much more sinister and hard to see… How very, very interesting… Ryker’s cousin was right; playing this game really did make him happy.

Donmai, huh? Scoria scoffed under his breath, although he supposed that did mean everything was alright. Probably. He was never quite sure with Caerbannog because sometimes he felt like she just got pushed around so easily, and maybe she just didn't say what she thought too? But then he remembered how they had gotten drunk together and that removed any trace of doubt. Anyway, back to Ryker. Ryker, Ryker, Ryker. It sounded like he was actually going to go be a woodcrafter and do woodcrafting things, so good for him, Scoria supposed. Very nice. A+. The only reason that Scoria had asked was because if the woodcrafter was just going to throw it all away... After all, he had been hunting for a fishing rod. With the wood for a fishing rod, Scoria had not been exactly sure if this Ryker fellow wanted to actually do anything else. Still, if he was going to actually use it, then good for him. Best to avoid any accidental monopolies or something and... was that an innuendo. In front of Alraune, really? Scoria squinted in his usual glaring fashion at Ryker before scoffing under his breath again.

Fine, he could play ball. "Only if you're not putting it to use and it's available. Wouldn't want to... cut in, especially if you already intend to stick that wood somewhere." Look at that. Scoria had gone and combined both wood puns and... other puns. Yeah. Right. His voice had taken a bit of a deadpan while he spoke, as if he had no interest in actually playing ball or humoring Ryker, but what Scoria did and what he meant weren't always the same thing. The glaring druid stepped behind Caerbannog, woodaxe in his hand, right until they reached the walls of Londinium once more. It seemed like their little adventure had come to an end, but Scoria had one thing to do first. Carefully stepping his way over to some of the Landers that were congregating again with cries of "oh my she's back let's go harass Caerbannog and find out what's the deal" and other such junk, Scoria placed his hand on the shoulder of the nearest Lander and squeezed just a little too strongly. Allure. "It's fine. Get lost. And stop bothering @dindeen already, she's not your gofer." With a 'mattaku' muttered under his breath as he turned around, Scoria went back to glaring at Ryker and Caerbannog instead. It seemed Alraune was pretty happy though, she was cheerfully humming and swinging hands with Caer, and now that they were back in Londinium (or at its walls, at any rate), the forest sprite was hugging Caer's leg for a bit. Sheesh, that sprite was really fond of the samurai.

Status Likes Scoria's baby. OOC Notes--- Tags@dindeen Ryker Scoria The samurai was not a child who walked without a care in the world in such a dangerous place. Sure, Caerbannog had a smile on her face for the presence of the forest sprite truly made her happy, and the weather was very nice that day. But she was still wary of any dangers that could be just around the corner. If the wolf-hair was out on a walk by herself, she wouldn’t be as cautious but at that moment, she was with other people and as the only tank amongst the three adventurers, she felt responsible for their safety. They were taller than her and were probably physically stronger in the real world, but in Elder Tale she had a role to fulfill and she would never shirk from that duty. To her relief, they reached the walls of Londinium without incident and the forest sprite was as happy as always. No one was upset or dead, so all was well. Caerbannog heard some parts of the other adventurers’ conversation on their way to the city but she thought it was definitely not her business to butt in. She knew nothing about wood, woodcrafting or fishing, so she would not be able to contribute to whatever they were talking about. If they were talking about food and cooking, she would have chimed in but the men were talking about their rods and sticking it in places so the girl remained quiet. Once they were in the safety of the city walls, Caerbannog turned to Ryker and sent him a friend request. “Party sometime,” was what she said to the cleric in case he needed her reason for the request. The samurai glanced at Scoria and remembered the confusion that they had some time ago, so she looked at Ryker again and clarified, “Party for hunting. No booze.” The Alraune giggled and hugged her Auntie’s leg; such a cute and pretty little fluffy! As Caerbannog waited for the cleric’s response, she stooped over and gave the sprite a big hug, and then she picked up the baby and gave her a piggyback ride. Whether Ryker accepted or rejected the request, the samurai would not mind. To each his or her own; Scoria walked over to some landers and said something-something to them... again, to each his own thought the wolf-hair. She did hear her named mentioned so it was a little curious, but as soon as Ryker responded and if their quest for wood was over, she would bid farewell to the druid and to the cleric. The initial response to Ryker’s wording from the male player was almost expected by now; an angry-looking glare of sorts probably meant to frighten or deter any further communication with the man. At first, Ryker had thought of it as the male player simply being angry or upset for some odd reason, but maybe it was just his face being stuck that way, or maybe he had actually adjusted the game to make his eyes look like they did, or maybe he was genuinely mad about something. Ryker had been toying with his words the entire time, enjoying the company he had for once in a long time, so that could have been the reason. It was all in good fun though, there was no reason to be upset. However, every person’s humor varied; Ryker blamed it on the first encounter.

Yet at least the angry person was willing to shoot back a play of his own, even if he did so in a very sarcastic slash bored slash grumpy manner, kind of, sort of. Okay maybe those words didn’t fit but the fact remained; there were puns. And Ryker began to laugh. As they approached the walls of Londinium, the Cleric chuckled and laughed as he took in both the seriousness behind the words mixed with the subtle humor behind them. Whether his humor was liked or disliked, Ryker did not know. However, the man whom had helped him tolerated him enough to at least say something punny, which was good. At least there was something underneath that glare, somewhere. Ryker wouldn’t pry for it or push his luck, but instead took what he could get which was enough for him.

Upon nearing Londinium’s gates, Ryker tucked his hands into his pockets and slowed his pace until he finally came to a stop, letting the other two players walk ahead of where he was. Their time together had come to an end and Ryker had gathered the materials which he needed. The pile of wood was also nearby so there was no need for him to waste energy going further. He had work to do and there was no doubt in his mind that the other two players also had their own daily tasks. As a lower level, Ryker knew his place and his limits. He also knew when he was being a burden. In such a situation, he probably could have succeeded on his own but was grateful for the help. The glaring man and the kind, quiet school girl had taken time out of their day to help a foolish fox fisherman. He would ask no more from them.

Again, just as she had taken the initiative to talk to him and nudge him along, the female player of few words sent him another screen thingy. Unlike the first one, which he had subconsciously tapped on, this message was a friend request. Ryker tilted his head a little from the site, curious as to why she had sent him a thing, but then remembered the little word, networking, that his father had reminded him of a few times. Knowing people who were willing to help in a bad situation tended to be useful, so Ryker did not decline the invitation. But just after he did, Ryker questioned it… Party for hunting. No booze.

“What?” Ryker stared at the pretty lady for a moment, concerned for her and what she must’ve gone through to make that kind of thing clear. But, as he looked over at the male who was ensuring that the People of the Land nearby kept their distance, Ryker didn’t exactly feel surprised anymore. That could have been a thing. It was not his business so he casually just… pushed that away and let it go.

“I must thank you both for today…” Taking the moment to speak his gratitude before his mind spoke his thoughts.

“…as I probably would still be digging through that pile of wood if either of you had not shown up, but I think it is time for me to run along and let you two be on your way.” Ryker spoke aloud to the other two players as he opened up his menu, fumbling a little through the buttons as he still attempted to understand what he was looking at. After a few moments though, he discovered the party category, opened it, and blinked as another screen appeared, and that screen showed the names of the players he was with. Ryker perked up to look at the two, matching name to face, and then looked back at the screen.

“Scouria? Maybe? I'm sorry, I have a hard time with new names, but feel free to take some of the wood from the pile. Things get rough at times, and I’m not exactly good at fighting yet… Take care of yourselves and hopefully I can be of actual use later should we bump into each other again!” With that, Ryker waved his hand, snapping his wrist once before turning and stuffing it back into his pocket. It was a fun time, being with other Adventurers for a bit, but now he made his way back to the wood pile. With three sticks already picked out and gathered, Ryker would simply inventory a bunch of it before moving along. He had a long day ahead, and he would not waste a second of it.
