A list of basic weapons that you are allowed to give to your character from the start. For all intents and purposes, starter gear is considered on par with Level 1 crafted equips. The guidelines for picking your gear goes as follows:
Weapons: Pick either two one-handed weapons, a one-handed weapon and a shield, or a two-handed weapon that falls under one of your class' proficiency. If you are a bard you also get your choice of a musical instrument that can be carried on hand (ex: flute, violin, clarinet, etc.), nothing big like a piano. Bow users get a quiver of wooden arrows or wooden bolts (you'll have inifnite ammo for now btw since it is too annoying for us to keep track of ammo usage, icly it is a limited amount though; and toss them in your inventory).
Armor: Pick the highest available type for your class (Ex: Plate for Guardians, Leather for Assassins, Cloth for Enchanters, Wardenscale for Wardens)
Note that all classes are able to dual wield weapons for more flexible combat, but at the sacrifice of defense, attack stability, and accuracy. Most notably, the Swashbuckler class is most compatible with the style, as it possesses skills that build on dual wielding and are able to cancel out these combat penalties. The use of a two-handed weapon follows a similar line, possessing greater attack range and momentum but a slower attack speed.
This applies in a similar way to characters wielding weapons where the required level is higher than their own. The weapon in question will be unequippable in the character's equipment slot. Needless to say, while they can technically wield the weapon without officially equipping it such as calling it from the inventory, weapons too strong for the player are very unreliable and work as though they were incompatible with the character's class (therefore receiving the half proficiency penalty).
Bare hands are the default 'weapon' when no weapons are equipped. For regular characters, they are considered a melee weapon with a base attack of Lv1. While a player who specs in strength will be able to deal slightly higher damage with their fists, it's not usually a viable method compared to armed combat. Monks are the exception, with their bare hands scaling equally to their main class's level. They may optionally decide to use throwing weapons or specialized close-combat weapons like knuckles or claws, but bare-handed combat is the go-to style for most Monk fighting styles.
