Deximus went through the city until; he kept walking to a part of the town that wasn’t traversed much. His goal was to find a building that had a flat roof with a small supply closet, after all a small hidden base for his operations much take place. Looking at all the old buildings he remembered some of them from TV shows and others from pictures his friends sent to him. However, the perfect building with stairs was indeed worth the find. Seeing at the building was run down, with all sorts of plants growing on and around it was almost the ideal hiding spot. Not too far away, were a small pond and some trees it must have been where the park in the real world was. Deximus needed to level, and he knew going about the old way of producing the materials he needed was best. This action would require time and for him, that was apparently one thing he had. His first lesson towards being a scribe would be making paper. He remembered from his old life the simple method that was used to make paper in his science class. He would need wood pulp or plant fibers for simple paper, and once that was collected he needed to boil the fibers enough to soften them up; anything more would make them too soft and possibly fall apart after the process is finished. However during the boiling process lye was needed, a mesh wire material or cloth material was used to carefully pull the softened fibers out, and lay them down over a strainer so they could dry. If used correctly with a heated roller he could nicely roll out the fibers so they could dry a little faster and stick together in a nicely woven pattern.
He had to remember this for it was rather cool to learn how the people of the past made paper, if he was more experienced he could use cotton, hemp, even spider silk to make more official papers and documents. However, in this world he could probably even use more magical beast to make even greater items.
Deximus had brought a little fire from a torch with him; he didn’t know how long this would take. Placing some broken limbs and simple pieces of wood he could gather into a small pile, grabbing some small rubble he managed to make a simple ring, he didn’t want the fire to accidently spread or blow around to easily. Lighting the wood with the torch made his job much easier, finding a small hole to place the torch he let the torch stand to offer him a small beacon of hope. Fire was going to help him achieve much of what had to be done. Seeing from the roof top, he wasn’t the tallest building, in truth this building was only five stories up, and most trees stood higher than that. Deximus was really trying to go to town on his first true invention as a scribe. Now was the time to plan on what to make, paper was a given, if he could find a means to produce paper it would go a far way. Ink and quills would come shortly after, if there wasn’t anything effective to write on the quill and ink would go to waste.
First thing he needed was some of the materials he had already purchased at the market, and his first goal was to make some old paper at least three sheets of paper. Oh crap, Deximus needed lye, and that was something he was accustomed to in the real world for easy purchase. He had to try and remember how to make lye; lye was used for making soap, paper, and other materials. It was something he had almost forgotten, he needed a wooden barrel, a small cork size hole in the bottom of the barrel, a cork, something like bricks or wood that could leave the barrel leveled. What were the other ingredients, he had to think carefully lye could be made by ash sitting in water, it also needed…oh he had to think carefully, what was it that his instructor said, he could barely remember his teachers face when the thought struck him, river rocks with hay, and it had to be water from the lake or river something as close to pure water as possible, oh yes thankfully it was something he could remember.
