Basic Attack Timer Critique

Okay so let's talk about 'basic attacks'.

Luna says it's 2 seconds (1 second if dual wielding for 2 seconds total). This is excluding the optional battle system. I'm excluding this now because I don't want it brought up as justification. Because this isn't D&D. It's a semi-freeform RP.

So why is it 2 seconds? That doesn't make any sense to me. Let's talk about Auto Attack

Auto Attack

A basic toggle command that controls the user's body and allows them to automatically target a monster and attempt to attack once per two seconds. Any skills or movements that the user may activate will take priority over this status, but the system will generally try to aim for an accurate hit. It was a staple among players in the original Elder Tale game, but since the Apocalypse, its use has taken a drastic drop. Due to this world allowing for manual combat much like in the real world, queued auto attacks are often seen as too slow for practical use. Still, for those who do not have the adequate combat training, is there any other option?

So uh apparently our basic attacks that aren't system controlled are as slow as Auto Attack, which are said to be slower than regular attacks.

So uh basic attacks. Can we make them not 2 seconds? Because it doesn't take me 2 seconds to slap someone. And considering some animation or cast times, I don't think it makes sense that it takes the same amount of time for Leaf Shield to cast as it does for me to throw a punch. Isn't part of basic attacks and the idea of freeform that you don't have to be sitting there waiting on numbers and cooldowns?

Also I want a mod response from someone who isn't Luna. Luna can participate, of course, but I personally want someone's input who isn't it. Anyone who knows me from old places know I can duke it out with someone in large walls of text, but that's not going to accomplish anything.

It was partially calculated from D&D and Pathfinder as their systems have every combatant act near simultaneously based on their combat round each lasting 6 seconds and you only being allowed to make one standard action per round. This may not be D&D, but D&D is basically just organizing real time events, making it and Pathfinder a sort of basis on some of these things as they are simulating real time in a turn based manner. You do the same on a forum, even in freeform. You are simulating real time in a turn based manner as each person is taking a turn posting.

The combat system's 5 second rounds came from this to prevent too many actions from being performed in a single round (and because 5 is a nice number). If it was 1 second then a round would probably last only 3 seconds.

Auto Attack is actually:
- The system launches an attack every 2 seconds
- The time it takes to make the attack is still 2 seconds (the current standard).

So it actually takes (attack animation) + (2 second delay) seconds in total. I'll clarify the skill description.

If you'd like my input into how weapon attack speeds really should go, generally speaking:

Punching / Small Weapons (under 1 foot): 1 second
Medium Weapons (1-3 feet): 1.5 seconds
Large Weapons (4+ feet): 2 seconds

This would make it so that skills, while they take a little longer to initiate, are used because of their special effects. Meanwhile normal attacks wouldn't be invalidated.
