What had once seemed like it might had been able to become a potential dream, had turned into an outright nightmare. For the girl the Apocalypse was an event that had been quite aptly named. While she had been eagerly creating her character in order to play alongside her lover the moment she finished the design of her avatar a flash of light blinded her, and a moment later she found herself within a foreign place. Gone was the familiar warmth of the room she shared with Rebecca, gone was the comfortable feeling of the cushion beneath her rear and worst of all... There was no trace of her lover to be found. Of course the first thing she did was try to manipulate what appeared to be a window resembling the interface of what might had once been the game. There was a lot of information to take in, but the most important things she noticed for now was the fact that her identity was now that of 'Esperia', the name she had given her avatar. Esperia was the name of a character from a story she had once read, and being rather fond of it, she had obviously chosen to adopt it as her username.
Slowly stepping along the stone tiles of what had once been a proper road the girl tried to make sense of her situation. She had created a character, one that was named Esperia and belonged to the Druid class. She had chosen to play a Druid because she believed it would compliment Rebecca's character well. With a hint of concern in her eyes the girl continued walking along the streets of the city, desperately searching for that one person. However, after what appeared to be several hours of searching all over the place it became clear to her... Rebecca was nowhere to be found. A feeling of insecurity started to slowly swell up within her, and when the sky started to darken up above, it became clear to her... she was alone.
With unsteady footsteps the girl had dragged her body next to a collection of crates that rested near an unfamiliar building, trying to conceal herself from the other people who were wandering around. The reason for her decision to hide herself? It was because she was about to do something she didn't want anyone else to see. Slowly sliding her back down the wall the girl felt her eyes getting watery, tears slowly dripping down from the corner of her eyes.
"She's gone..."
And the realization behind this hurt her intensely. She had always expected that Rebecca would have remained at her side. For them to build up a future together, someone she could support but also depend on. However, right now everything had returned back the way they were before. She felt alone, as if she had been swallowed into an abyss of darkness. There was no light, no warmth or anything for that matter. It was just her, in the dark gloomy realm. Tears started to now flow like a small river, the sobbing having turned into downright bawling. This world wasn't a dream, but a cruel nightmare. It had stolen Rebecca from her, and now she had nothing left.
The sound of footsteps came from nearby, a stranger walked past the crates and briefly looked down at her. He said something, but the words didn't reach her ears. Even the feeling of a blanket being tossed onto her seemed to feel as if it happened to someone else. She knew it happened, but it didn't feel real, it didn't feel as if it was her. Was this perhaps a cruel dream? A nightmare that she was bound to wake up from sooner or later? No, it most certainly wasn't. She had stumbled over some roots earlier and the feeling was quite real, something she wouldn't have experienced in a dream.
"It hurts..."
She was hungry and tired, and for some reason the loneliness she was suffering from made her heart scream. Someone, anyone... It didn't matter who, as long as someone could erase this suffering in her heart. For a moment she was in such pain she thought it might had been easier for her to forget the reason why she was so sad, but that just made her angry. There was no way she was going to forget Rebecca. Surely she must had been in this world also, right? In the end she had been making her character also, and yet at the same time she was nowhere to be found, and the lack of Rebecca's presence made her feel like an abandoned kitten. The warmth of the blanket that was thrown over her helped keep the cold at bay, but it didn't help the chilly feeling that slowly numbed her heart.
"I guess this is how it feels, to be alone again..."
There was almost no emotion in her tone, aside from a deeply ingrained sense of sadness in her voice. Even the usual lively light in her eyes had withered away, like a candle flame being snuffed by a cold winter breeze.
"I want to forget... the reason behind my pain, and yet your smile keeps haunting me... It's unfair Becky..."
The tears had returned, her arms wrapping around her tiny frame while she tried her best to mute the sobs she was making. She always found it unsightly to let people see her cry, and whether it was in reality or this living hell, she would try to keep her tears hidden from the world. Although she heard footsteps approach her direction, the girl didn't care anymore. In the end nobody else had mattered to her, and with the one person she loved gone... One could say that this world had pretty much lost its purpose for her.
I'm cold. My body feels cold even with this blanket, but more importantly: Where is she? I searched for a whole day and she wasn't anywhere in the city... Could it be that she didn't enter this world alongside me?

[attr="class","shiramain"] Level 14 Summoner Tailor Dancer [attr="class","shirabar g"] [attr="class","shirabar b"] | Life without a chef on patrol has been a dreary one for Shiranui. It was still early in the morning, the dew has just settled on the fresh greenery in “Das Atrium” as Capsule named it. The sun’s radiant smile was concealed by gloomy grey clouds, giving the greenhouse a cooler atmosphere. Tucked in one arm, the fox carried a basket to put strawberries in. In his mind, he made a rundown of his guildmates’ subclasses and couldn’t seem to piece together which of them was a Gardener. If nobody stepped up to the task, he would have to do it himself; it would be such a shame to let this garden go to waste. After plucking the brightest, reddest strawberries he could find, he set off outside. Like a sixth sense that he felt in his ears, it occurred to him that there’s a high possibility of raining later. It made him wonder if umbrellas have even been invented yet. Well, I suppose if I unfold my scarf it could block out quite an amount of rain; it’s not like I’ll be standing in it for long, thought Shira.
Even though everything wasn’t as bright and cheerful, it didn’t seem like it was totally dreadful. The street lamps and adventurers’ magic lights subtly giving a soft glow that felt comforting and nostalgic. It reminded him of the winters in Japan and London, when he and a special person would take the long way home, past many buildings and shops, illuminated only by soft lights that made for a romantic walk home. It was unfortunate that that relationship had to end long ago, but it wasn’t a regretful one. The thought of romance gave the fox the urge to go watch a play. People have begun role playing great Shakespearian works, that sounded fun. He made a mental note to check one out and perhaps convince the guild to do one together.
His thoughts were interrupted by a something he hasn’t seen in a while. Amongst a few crates near the Tower’s wall was a small person, curled up under a blanket. He could tell she was crying; it sounded like she was trying to contain her sobbing but only made it sound more despairing. He would have guessed that people have gotten used to this world by now, but apparently not. He understood that it hasn’t been easy living as characters in a fantasy world. That and there were the people left behind who were probably worried sick about them. Deep down, there was that itchy thought that they were going to be here forever. He may just be another naive fool but he clung to the hope that one day they were all going to get out of this place. A way in means a way out, doesn’t it?
He made gentle steps as he approached the small figure. It seemed that she was another Fox Tail like him. What could have happened to make her so depressed?
“Excuse me, little fox, but why are you here alone? Are you waiting for someone?”

The footsteps that approached her direction seemed to stop right around her location, and when the voice spoke she felt herself a tiny bit curious. It wasn't one of those rough and grumpy voices she had heard earlier, but a soft and gentle sound. Slowly she lowered the top of the blanket, her sorrowful eyes gazing up at him. Little fox? For a moment she wondered what could have been the reason for the nickname, but a moment later she already understood the meaning behind it. The pair of fox ears that rested on top of her head twitched lightly, accompanied by a light stirring from the tail behind her. That's right, in this world she wasn't Elise Von Eisenberg, but the Fox-Tail Esperia. Despite the fact she initially considered ignoring the gentle stranger, believing it to be the best for both of them, there was something about the kindness in his voice that made her decide otherwise. Using one of her hands in an attempt to wipe away the tears that stained her cheeks the girl's sobs subdued slowly when she finally whispered in a voice with such softness it almost sounded like she was whispering.
"I'm... waiting on someone."
For a moment she hesitated, wondering if it was wise to say anything further. What use would it have to explain her situation to this person? They were strangers, and exposing the source of her suffering could easily turn into a weakness for others to exploit. And yet, sometimes a listening ear was exactly something someone needed, and a helping hand the support they desired.
"But I haven't found her since the Apocalypse happened."
The Apocalypse, the event that had caused the players who were logged in to be transferred into the world of Elder Tale. It was a foreign world to her, and it felt inhospitable to her, at least ever since she realized Rebecca wasn't there. She had searched for hours, but not a sight of her lover was to be found. A deep sigh escaped the girl's lips, her arms now wrapped around her legs, hugging her body closer in an attempt to make herself a little smaller.
"I can't even go out of the city and search for her... I'm a Druid, but I molded my skills to compliment her character..."
It had seemed like such a fun idea at the time. For her to play a healer character to support Rebecca, it would have been quite a symbolic version of their relationship in real life. In the end in the real world she had always been protected and saved by Rebecca, and in return she wanted to support and help the young woman in any way possible.
"Just the thought that she might not be within this world terrifies me a lot..."
Of course that was simply being pessimistic, right? Both of them had made their characters at the same time, so they should have both been send into this world. However, why didn't they appear in the same spot? She was practically close to sitting on Rebecca's lap when they were both fooling around in the character creation screen. In the end she had gone silent again, not sure what to say, so instead she waited for the stranger to speak. A brief glance at them showed they were an adventurer like herself, and their level told her that while they weren't among the strongest in the world, he certainly had a lot more experience than herself. Then again, that by itself wasn't really difficult. She had not set foot outside the city before, let stand even fight a monster.
I wonder why you even bothered talking to me... That previous adventurer said I was nothing but a broken pitiful child, are you thinking the same and merely being sympathetic?
To think people still acted as if she was a child. It was quite frustrating actually, to think that people kept acting as if she was a middle-school girl, while she was actually already attending to college. However, one thing that she was rather glad for was the fact she and Rebecca had decided to make characters that looked nearly identical to their real world selves, what should have made it easy for her to recognize the girl. In the end there would have been no way for her to mistake Rebecca for someone else.
Once more she felt the fox ears on top of her head twitch lightly, causing her to feel a bit funny. It appeared her ears and tail responded to the emotions she felt, and right now she couldn't help but feel a tiny bit happy at the fact someone cared enough to try to talk to her. Certainly it might had been because she was looking so pitiful, but there was something about this stranger that allowed her to briefly forget the feelings that haunted her mind. Was she using the conversation as a means to escape from her suffering? Perhaps she truly was becoming a pitiful girl...
"What about you... Are you waiting on someone also? Or are you one of them... Adventurers who have already settled into this world."
It took quite a lot of courage, but a lot of players had seemingly overcome the initial wave of despair, accepting their situation and adjusted to the new life they had been given. Some of them explored their new world in search for adventure, others to make a home for themselves and a few were even saying about researching stuff in an attempt to return home.
"No... I think you're one of them. Despite the gentle tone in your voice your expression seems to be one that radiates confidence, as if you're prepared to overcome any challenge thrown your way... Just like her. I can't help but wonder where people like you two gain such confidence."
She briefly closed her eyes, the final sobs having faded entirely while she whispered once more.
"Esperia... It's my name, at least in this world..."

[attr="class","shiramain"] Level 11 Summoner Tailor Dancer [attr="class","shirabar g"] [attr="class","shirabar b"] | As Shira listened to the littler fox’s story, he wondered how many people felt the same and how they’ve dealt with it. Honestly, he had no real clue as to what he was supposed to do or say to make her feel better. All he knew was that this little girl shouldn’t be alone right now. He could tell that this special person she was waiting for meant the world to her. He felt the urge to just take her in his arms and tell her everything was going to be alright but he held himself back. As the little girl finished her story, Shira could help but get the feeling that she had opened up a little bit more than she should to a total stranger like him.
“Well, I wouldn’t say I’ve completely settled into this world but I suppose I have, in a way. Although, I wouldn’t say it was that easy. When I first woke up, I was confused, lost and frustrated. Everything around me was nothing but a spectacle of despair. If it weren’t for certain people, I would never be where I am, just as you see me. My confidence comes from knowing that there are people I have to live for and knowing we have each others' backs. If me and your friend are that much alike, then she’s probably the same way about you.”
There was a kind and caring smile on Shira’s face as he talked about his day during the Catastrophe. It truly has come a long way since then and it all worked out for the better. Capsule, Adler, the guild, they were family to him now, here in this world they were thrust into.
“Why don’t you tell me your real name, little fox? Mine’s Shirayuki Akabara, but you can call me Shira.”
It was strange introducing himself as… well, himself. Though his name in Elder Tale wasn’t that different from his real one, he just felt like doing so. Perhaps meeting Esperia made him realise how much he missed the people he left behind. There was only one other person who still refers to him as Shirayuki and it was always comforting to hear that, for some reason. It felt like he brought a small part of the real world with him.

So it wasn't that this person was simply strong, but they had a reason that allowed them to become strong enough to endure the suffering others succumbed to. The knowledge he had to remain strong because there were people depending on him, but also because there was someone who watched his back and supported him was likely what allowed this 'Shira' to keep a bright outlook on life. Was it the same for Rebecca? Was she able to remain so strong and cheerful because they had each other? For a moment she had gone silent, seemingly pondering about the thought when her eyes were cast back onto Shira. She wasn't sure if they were a boy or a girl, they did look rather girlish and had a surprisingly feminine voice, that it made her difficult to picture this person as a boy. The question Shira had asked her caused Esperia to freeze for a moment, her gaze cast downwards again, clearly avoiding eye-contact, as if she was nervous. She had hoped to avoid using her real name. There was actually quite an important reason behind it.
The Von Eisenberg were famous in the pharmaceutical industry, and as a result most people had likely heard the name at least once, if not for their research then most certainly for the fact they were millionaires. It was that bit that had always troubled her a little. Because she was the heiress of the Von Eisenberg people always held high expectations of her, forcing her to act all proper and refined in the hope of upholding the family image. Wouldn't it be better for her to lie and say a different name? Perhaps she could just drop the conversation? Then again, Shira did introduce herself so it was only proper for her to return the courtesy.
"Elise... Elise Von Eisenberg."
The moment the words left her lips the girl shifted her body lightly, seemingly getting back onto her feet. To think she had been so foolish to give up hope so easily. If Rebecca was inside this world, it would be certain that she'd be looking for her, so what right did she have to sit here wallowing in despair? She had to resume her search.
"Thank you Shira, I think I'm going to resume my search for her."
Gently folding up the blanket, the girl placed it onto the crates and started walking away, seemingly considering the conversation over when the girl suddenly stopped, her back facing Shira. A sudden growl came from the girl's stomach, causing her to turn around to face them once more. She was hungry, and tired but above all she wasn't build for adventures on her own. In the end she was a druid, and one that focused primarily on healing abilities.
"..."
Something seemed to be whispered under her breath, words that were illegible but caused the little fox her cheeks to turn a light red color, a blush of embarrassment surfacing upon her face. Secretly she had hoped that Shira would suggest for her to accept their help, in the end she was a little bit too proud to beg for someone to help her out. Not to mention she was a little bit surprised about the fact she was already growing used to Shira's presence, and all in all it was a bit of a pleasant feeling.
What a bother... I'm hungry, want to take a nap and find Becky, but I can't do any of them...
What a misfortune, then again... There might had been a solution right in front of her. Certainly a little bit of convincing would help convince Shira to lend her a hand, right? But how in the world would she be able to ask him? She was way too tired to put on her usual proper lady act, and she doubted it would work well after Shira had just seen her bawling like a baby. No, she had to think of an alternative. Of course to make it more troublesome a sudden growl, louder than the previous one escaped her stomach again. Gods, she could likely eat a whole cow now, all that walking did leave her tired and hungry, but she didn't even have money to buy food, or a place at the inn to sleep in.
"I'm... unable to survive on my own. My character was designed as a supportive role, so I'd doubt I'll even be able to handle the weakest things on my own. Not to mention I never played a video game before, so I'm afraid I lack the necessary knowledge to function like most adventurers... C-Could you please help me out Shira?"
Now that she thought about it, she had noticed one rather peculiar thing. Shira's real name sounded Japanese, while she herself was trying to speak English. Did this mean that Shira was able to speak and understand English, or was she speaking Japanese, and did for some reason the language turn into English? It was quite a fascinating thing, because a lot of different nationalities had gathered, but everyone seemed to be speaking the same language.
"I-I don't mind compensating you once I'm a bit stronger. I don't care much about wealth anyway, I just wish to be reunited with Becky..."
It was rather embarrassing for her to plead for help, to the point there was a light stuttering in the girl's words for a moment. Now where was the confidence that she usually had when dealing with other people? Was it something she had lost when Rebecca had disappeared?
However, for now she would await Shira's response, and secretly she was still trying to figure out the fox-tail's gender. Was it a boy, or a girl? Not that she minded either way, she could get along just as well with boys as with girls, and on terms of romantic interest her heart had room for only one person, something that had been rather obvious to anyone that knew her.

[attr="class","shiramain"] Level 14 Summoner Tailor Dancer [attr="class","shirabar g"] [attr="class","shirabar b"] | The name Eisenberg did ring a bell. Something that told him he was dealing with someone from an extremely well-off family clanged in his noggin. Honestly, if he were a bit more attentive, he would have recognize someone from the same family in some corporate dinner parties in the real world. His mother didn’t want to spoil him too much so they didn’t indulge in those as much as any normal rich family would. But, in Elder Tale, your status back then had no bearing here. Everyone had to start from scratch, just as they would have to in any MMO.
In that instance, a giggle managed to escape his lips. Compensation? No no no no no, this simply won’t do.
“London’s a big place, dear. Best not search on an empty stomach,” he said as he held out a fresh basket of strawberries. It was unfortunate that the guild chef was away for a while, she made the best pasta he could ever have in this game. Fortunately, he did have enough pocket change for a player-cooked meal that had actual flavors. He just hoped that Mira would never discover the fact that there was nobody cooking for Avarice, at the moment. No person would ever wish that sort of punishment on anyone’s stomach.
“If you fancy something a little bit more filling, I know a lovely restaurant just around the corner. It’ll be my treat, so don’t you worry a thing about compensation.” He was back to his casual but caring smile. It was from knowing that he had helped a complete stranger in need and making an adorable new friend at the same time.

Despite the kind words spoken by Shira, the girl couldn't help but feel that this was almost akin to a person trying to bribe a kitten to lower her guard by offering it some candy. When the basket of strawberries was offered to her, the initial reaction the Foxtail had prepared was to decline the offer, but in the end when another growl escaped her stomach the girl knew that it wouldn't work like that. Her cheeks flushed up into a light crimson color the girl's hands dug into the basket with an amazing speed, her cheeks slowly puffing up like a hamster storing its food when finally after several moments the basket was emptied of its contents and with a long gulp the girl felt the flavor and substance of the strawberries fill her belly. But unfortunately it wasn't enough. Of course it wouldn't... She had not eaten since the Apocalypse began, so obviously a basket of strawberries was only enough to fill her like an afternoon snack.
"That sounds like a delightful idea. Please lead the way Shira."
That sounded oddly polite, but judging from the smile on the girl's lips she was slowly getting into a better mood. While Shira had guided her to the restaurant the girl had decided to properly explain her situation. While they were walking the girl's lips parted once more, a soft sigh escaping her lips when she arrived at the part of her explanation about how they got into Elder Tale.
"My fiancé and I intended to play Elder Tale together. It was a rather silly idea, mostly one to distract us from the constant stress of our studies. Of course she was rather eager to join me, and when we both were finished making our characters I felt a darkness consume my mind, and then I woke up here. I'm rather confident that she's in this world. And we both decided on our names beforehand."
She paused for a moment, gesturing a fingertip at her own face and smiled bashfully.
"I'm Esperia, and she's Lemmyl. They are two characters from a story both of us love. However, despite searching around nobody has seen or heard about her whereabouts. She should have been somewhere nearby since we were in the same room."
Of course she wasn't going to mention the fact that the two of them shared a bedroom, and simply had two computers there. One of the benefits of being rich, it allowed for their residence to be quite fancy for two students living together. However, it wasn't like Shira needed to know what sort of relationship she and Rebecca had. She tended to leave the teasing about that subject to Rebecca.
"I can only assume she's somewhere in the surrounding area then. But since I'm a druid and only possess healing spells, it would make traveling a bit dangerous for me."
In the end she was a healer, while Lemmyl was supposed to had been the damage dealer among the two of them.
