Curiosity was such a powerful force. It was also a dangerous, compelling and convincing one, too. Curiosity had such a sweet, gentle way of lulling her into things which she just simply shouldn’t be doing. Most times, giving into the temptation of curiosity ended up being ultimately harmless but sometimes, this drive would steer her straight into a massive mess. For the petite Adventurer, it was simply an inevitability that she would eventually bite off more than she could chew. Only time would tell if this was to be just such a case…
A rumor had reached her furry little ears the day prior that a mansion had been found. Apparently the mansion was locked up tight but someone was quietly spreading the word that it would open its doors for one night only… on Halloween. Unable to resist the sugar-coated voice of curiosity, Artemisia had trudged her way up to the top of the mountain. Fortunately for her, it seemed as if other Adventurers had recently been through clearing the same area, making her travel to the mansion quite peaceful.
When she arrived, she was met with the sight of a towering mansion. It was an odd mansion. Each window was warmly lit and welcoming but somehow there was an ominous air hanging around. Artemisia slowly approached the large doors, her fox ears twitching in all directions to catch any noises approaching her. Fully giving into the temptation, Artemisia pulled the door open. It creaked open, revealing a brightly lit entranceway and lobby. Artemisia stepped inside, taking only a few steps into the large room. Once inside, the door behind her slammed shut, closing firmly with the chilling sound of a click echoing over the room.

Artemisia spun around, her pig tails whipping around her, and stared wide eyed at the door. Her stomach tightened and a feeling of how alone she was instantly washed over her. “Ah, I guess I should have known it was like this…” Of course it would close behind her. This was obviously some sort of event, a dungeon to be conquered. Curiosity was so cruel…
“Welcome, Adventurer,” A voice echoed throughout the lobby. Artemisia peeked her head over her shoulder but saw nothing. “The moment you stepped into this land, you have entered a temporary dream.” The introduction continued. Anxious, the young fox tail girl gripped her staff tightly, holding it close to her chest in case she suddenly needed to defend herself. Slowly, she turned around and took in the full view of her new confines.
“The rule of this mansion is to find the master.” The voice continued to explain the rules and requirements. “To advance, you must cross the Five Twilights into the final area.” As she listened, she pieced together the information. So this was probably the first of five or six areas, then. Would she really be able to do it…? “The Mastermind awaits at the end. Welcome to the Mansion of the Purple Mirror.” The voice echoed once more and then fell silent.
“Well, it looks like I have only one choice… but I see two possible outcomes here, with one more likely than the first…” This was, of course, the possibility that she would either complete this quest or die trying. The latter was definitely more in the realm of reality. As Artemisia worked it through her mind to fully accept her predicament, a small orange object caught her attention. It was then that she finally realized she was not truly alone in the lobby. She was here with a dozen or so floating pumpkins… or, really, they were Jack-o-Lanterns.

Artemisia locked her view on one of the closest of the Jack-o-Lanterns and activated her skill Evaluate by touching the air in front of her. Almost immediately, a little info menu appeared before her eyes, telling her all about the small creatures. It was called a Mini Jack. This particular one had a level of 2. She glanced over the rest of the information and then closed the information window. These guys had noticed her long before she noticed them and they hadn’t attacked her yet, so that was a good sign.
Several of the tiny pumpkins were bobbing up and down around her, circling her as she walked around the lobby. She looked at the one near her and couldn't help but laugh at it. The face carved into the orange body was twisted in a silly toothy grin. Inside, a light flickered steadily. “Haha, hi there…” She couldn't communicate with them but they seemed to be trying to interact with her.
Distracted by the Mini Jack, Artemisia almost missed noticing the door at the far end of the lobby. It was the only apparent exit. Her green eyes barely caught sight of it. Excited by her discovery, Artemisia dashed over to the door. The Mini Jacks followed her. Hurriedly, she reached for the door handle to yank it open and continue on her way but the door would not budge. The floating pumpkins danced around her and she was certain they were laughing at her.
“What’s so funny? How do I get to the next room…?” She yanked on the door handle again and this time a display burst into her field of vision. “What’s this…?” She read it over and instantly her shoulders drooped. It was a riddle that needed solved in order to move on. Frustrated, Artemisia shouted out the first answer that came to mind. The pumpkins danced again. She was sure this time, they were definitely laughing at her. The door did not budge, so clearly her answer had been wrong. She took a deep breath, read the riddle once more, and closed her eyes. She could solve this. She stayed silent for a long minute, running the riddle round and round in her mind. “Oh!” Her eyes snapped open and she declared what she was certain was the answer. There was a quiet click as the door unlocked and the pumpkins spun around in circles, apparently congratulating her on her successful riddle solving.
Artemisia pulled the door open and entered the next area…
