Pester me for an invite or ask to join. Hunting down the best place to find natural 'earth' or 'darkness' or 'anima' will be more fun with company. I don't mind if you want to show up for just one part of the adventure either. I'm totally fine if you just wanna go on part of the adventure or whatever else. No one contacted me. Fun's over. Elemental Baubles. Scoria had done the leg work. He had created something that would serve as means of transporting pure elemental energy that could be handled by the common individual. He had made his Alchemist's Gloves as well, cheeky little gloves that let him bypass the first little caveat, at least partially. It was the equivalent of wearing gloves while touching forensic evidence. Handling the bauble wouldn't contaminate it. It couldn't be created completely empty, so it had to obtain elements from around itself until sealed. Removing the Scoria factor would mean it would react purely and solely to the natural psyche around itself. That was to say, if you could somehow obtain a 100% pure sample of water and create this sphere inside the water itself, it would be a very pure substance. Now, Scoria thought it might be possible to cheat. Water was never perfectly pure, but he could design a filtration system and boil the water and reduce the impurities to near zero, but that wasn't natural water. Exactly as he had said, natural water was never perfectly pure. By cleansing it, he felt that it would remove part of what made water water. And in doing so, you wouldn't really get something that was of the water element. After all, when water and fire spells meet, the water never spontaneously combusts and explodes. That is what IO water does. So he needed a result from nature. Not from mechanical hijinks he could manipulate, and certainly not from spells. Spells engaged the second caveat of the elemental bauble. He needed something pure from nature, but it was never easy to find a good spot to ask for nature's help. Even as a druid. Scoria really had his work cut out for him. Zero found, ten to go. This was going to be obnoxious for sure. Earth first. Scoria clenched his fists quietly and headed straight for the Old Quarry Caverns, making the long trip to Sarum. Someone might have asked him why it was he wanted to deal with the Earth element first, but it was simply because Scoria knew about the caverns already. The Londinium underground had too much metal, too much life, too much... taint. He wanted to deal with Earth first, because he already knew the answer to the question, "Where is the Earth element most prominent and pure?" There were multiple places in the world, he guessed, but the caverns were a good place to start. He made the trip slowly, adjusting his gloves and setting the lamp on his hip before summoning the Grey Wolf. This guy never saw any action, frankly, and Scoria felt a little guilty about that. Still, the wolf never did talk to Scoria when the druid tried, so he assumed there was some good reason. The beast just made faces at him, hugged other people, and mockingly acquiesced to Scoria's requests. The Druid huffed softly and entered the caverns, making sure to tap his map periodically and get a good idea of how to retreat. The caverns were, frankly, a space for creatures that never really did exceed level 30. Scoria was at 55. With him and his companion, the trip was relatively quiet. It helped to have the presence of a courtesan to scare off sentient creatures, as even if they did see him, they recognized him as a bit dangerous. It would frankly be a little silly to explain how Scoria one-shot several arachnids with Spear Break and Terra Orbital Kick, accompanied by the bite and pounce of the grey wolf, so let's just skip it and get to the part where Scoria and wolf take on Foreman Mukade XXV. Now, Scoria had never really been a huge fan of bugs, but having known @dindeen's own Foreman Mukade, the druid wasn't nearly as surprised as he should have been. With both hands free, Scoria deftly avoided the bulldoze of the creature, sliding his spear against the centipede's side. Having experienced the burrowing of the other beasts and not wanting to deal with an elite mob doing that, Scoria threw down his spear and hefted upwards, causing the beast to roll over slightly. Using his Spellwalk accessory to lightly hop aside during his cast of Storm Shackle, Scoria lifted Mukade #25 up and dropped the beast onto his spear in a rather prompt manner. That was that then. Stepping deeper and deeper into the caverns, closer and closer to the core of the earth, Scoria breathed deeply. The air was thin down here. Very thin. There was still deeper to travel, still further to go, but he understood one thing clearly. If this was to be his 'Earth Element Gathering Spot', then it couldn't be in some place impossible to reach. Replicating an element from a pure element sphere would probably result in lower purity anyway, so he claimed this spot as where he would get the Earth. Deep, deep in the caverns. Digging his hands into the hard stone and breaking his way just a bit deeper, Scoria buried his gloved fingers into the earth and summoned his alchemic strength. Three fragments slowly shimmered into existence, merging and expanding within the earth itself, snapping outwards and interlocking as it sucked up the untainted, pure earth of this deep, core area of the world. If it was earth you wanted, you had to go to the center. Small cracking and popping noises came from the ground as the stable fragment and regular fragment melded together, sucking in more and more of the earth. Without ever tainting it himself, thanks to his gloves, Scoria sealed the orb and picked it up. The orb was heavy. Very heavy. It was murky, almost brittle, but somehow soft. Strangely like the earth it came from, was it not? Still, Scoria spied the tracest amounts of anima in the orb. After all, the earth itself was alive, very much so. Still, he could tell it was less than even a half a percent, a property of having created this incredibly pure, highly specialized Earth Orb. One down. The druid cast Call of Home soon after and huffed. Nine to go. Earth [X] Tags Here

The problem Scoria was facing now was which of the many elements to chase after. Earth was simple, he didn't need to go anywhere particularly fancy. The problem with the other elements was, for instance, if he wanted to get a pure sample of Air, he'd need to get skybound... and to get skybound, he'd need the Air element to construct something to take him there. Lightning had the problem of being bound by air itself, and unnatural attempts to construct the element through coils or such were not advised for reasons stated before. Ice... was possible. And if he needed Darkness, the naturally existing Miasma would probably suffice. Not quite darkness in a strict sense, but it created shade where none existed before. That, or he hunted down darkness at night. Between the Nature Trinity, Classic Trio, and the Yin-Yang elements, he figured he'd tackle Water next. The Druid was a druid, after all, so approaching the Nature Trinity was going to be a bit easier for him. Well, that he was a nature guy was why these inventions were so obnoxious to begin with. His destination was the Thames Coastline. He had been here when he originally invented the element orbs to begin with, and he had clearly ended up with a tainted and impure sample. His plan was not to take the coastline for his sample source (especially considering how much trash there was), but instead head out to the myriad of islands. He would have preferred a boat, to be honest, but asking someone for a boat seemed a little out of character. So he stole one. A small sigh came from his lips as he rode the wind in his skimmer, having 'procured' a surfboard with a sail with which to go between the islands. By his former scribe calculations and a bit of good druid sense, he aimed for one island in particular. It was relatively forested, but large and had a number of odd little things about it that made Scoria very, very curious to see if his suspicions were right. Stashing the skimmer away in his inventory, the Druid ventured into the island, cleanly avoiding the local fauna in an attempt to avoid running into strange mobs. One Sahuguin showed up on the coast to harass him, but he dealt with it swiftly. After chucking that mother glubber into the ocean, the druid began to map out parts of the island and venture deeper into its forested areas, hopping around the roots and tracking where the rivers might be. That was his aim. It didn't take very long. Being a former scribe of good sense and a druid, maps and nature were his fare. The stream was clear, rushing quickly and gurgling in places, but Scoria was not convinced of the purity of the stream and the sample. The dirt, the leaves, all the nonsense that was flowing through it would surely contaminate the sample. He needed the source of it all, the natural filter that created clean water that flowed through this stream. Scoria sighed and began his hike up river, careful to not disturb the area too much, steps light against the earth. Further into the dark forest he traveled, until he finally came up on the rushing of water from a waterfall, dropping into a stunningly clear lake. This was what he was looking for. Heaving himself up the side of the waterfall, the druid blinked water out of his eyes and came up to the highest point he could, hoping to avoid the mixing of 'air' into sample. After all, the water was falling through the air, so he would instead get to the closest purity while avoiding air. Sticking close to the wall, Scoria slipped his gloves on and reached one hand out, focusing as best as he could and bringing one of his elemental orbs into existence, bathed in the churning water of the waterfall. He could have picked the water from the lake, that would be very clear, but he didn't want to taint that with his own existence. So instead, he ended up with a highly pure concentration of water element in his sphere, with the lightest taint of anima and unfortunately, air. Still, its purity was unmistakable. The druid sealed the orb quickly and call-of-home'd his way back to Londinium. Two down. Eight to go. Water [X] Tags Here

It should have been a little obvious that Scoria would finish the nature trinity before the classic elements. He had added in Miasma to his list at some point, as it might come in handy, and as its definition was the antithesis of these other elements, he didn't see why it wouldn't be capturable. Anyway, he was searching for the proper zone for pure air. He had gotten busy with nonsense and business and other such things, but now he was back in the saddle. So where was he going? Snowdonia. Not for any great reason like it was the source of pure air or something, but rather because it was tall. It had a very tall arena and several very, very tall sheer cliff faces. The druid flicked the burnt stone in his inventory out into his pocket for later, then began the climb. His movements were relatively slow to start, but there wasn't anything particularly exciting about climbing up a mountain. There weren't very many enemies that were willing to try and tackle him. He supposed there were Reindeer or Snowmen or something, but he simply avoided them on the basis of being stronger than they were and a huge asshole to anything that so much as took a few steps towards him. No one liked being thrown off a cliff. Scoria was not opposed to using his wind skills to achieve just that. So what if they were immune to ice damage or whatever. Scoria was a druid of the northern wind, he had told Mab. That meant Darkness, Wind, Ice, and Water. He was Winter, he was nighttime, he was the endless dark of the oceans. Snowmen could just get tossed off a cliff. With that in mind, the druid finally made his way up to the top of the tallest cliff he could find (and scale in a reasonable amount of time). Nodding to himself, the Druid pulled the burnt stone into his hand, took a deep breath, and jumped off the cliff. God, it was hard to breathe. The Druid placed his hands together and focused hard, trying to avoid staring straight down or focusing on anything other than making the elemental bauble he needed. The biting winds and chill cut at his cheeks as he focused on his task, the small orb filling up quickly and attaining a rapid concentration of the rushing wind that fell through it. At such a height, it would definitely be difficult to have any other elements appear. It was only pure air up here, nothing of the earth. And as he fell, the only thing that even came close to tainting his subject was just a little bit of that ice. The resulting orb was a high purity of air with a hint of ice. Good enough for him. On the other hand, he now had to deal with falling to his death. Gritting his teeth and praying his calculations were correct, the Druid cast a quickened version of Call of Home, thanks to his burnt stone, and popped back into Londinium a moment before crashing to the ground. Unfortunately, he popped back upside-down and promptly fell onto his back. Woops. Sample acquired, however. Three down. Wait, why hadn't he just found a very windy valley...? Lightning next. Or Fire. Scoria knew quite well he'd have to go back to Snowdonia for some of that ice, but he wasn't particularly inclined to do so after having jumped off a cliff there recently. So where was he going? The Londinium Underground. The Druid was starting to understand quickly that Anima, Mana, and Miasma were not going to be like the rest of the elements. After all, Mana was the fundamental expression of Psyche, and he wasn't going to be able to get that any easier than a natural source of Anima. Miasma...? Well, he didn't want to touch that section. Not yet anyway. So he was going down into the Londinium Underground in his attempts to figure out what was what with what. Which basically meant that he figured he'd find something interesting out down there. Sure, it'd be easy to assume that he'd find only earth down here, but the entire Londinium area was generally surrounded by mountain ranges, so he could probably find some sort of magnetics. And with the existing rail lines... Maybe some lightning. The Druid just continued deeper into the underground, one-shotting whatever got in his way. At his level, stuff like that really wasn't anything to be worried about. Maybe for people with lower levels who didn't have a familiar to do their dirty work, but Scoria was not those people and would not bother any readers with nonsense like that. No, instead, he just had to go down as far as he could go. It helped that he used to be a Scribe, so his advanced maps helped him keep track of what was what and where they were going. They meaning he and his familiar, of course. The Druid continued deeper on into the underground, hopping past kobolds and goblins, pushing aside foremen or whatever. He didn't really care much one way or another for these monsters, he just wanted to get deeper and deeper into the underground, as deep as he could. It was foolhardy, really, going that far without any preparation. Scoria ended up wandering for well over three hours, moving in circles sometimes despite having a map. The Druid wasn't about to give up, however, no matter how thin the air got. As long as he could still breathe, he was fine. After all, even though he was now taking very minor damage from the poor conditions and was in complete darkness, Scoria had a lamp and a healing-over-time spell to keep his health and status topped up. So when he came upon a light source in quite literally the middle of nowhere, he was surprised. Interested, but surprised. It was a strange open area with tracks running up the side of the wall and sparks dancing about the lines sometimes. Scoria blinked softly and penned a note in his map before turning his lamp off, stepping slowly forward into the room. He was expecting some sort of strange phenomenon, but even that didn't prepare him for the lens in his lamp shattering and the sudden and intense ringing in his ears. What he had found wasn't an electric zone, it was a strong magnetic core. The metal in the earth and rail lines kept the charges flowing and the depth of this zone meant that it was powered by the earth's movement, which kept this place running despite having no man-made power source. So Scoria stupidly stepped further forward, despite the ringing in his ears and all the red flags. The lightning shot out of the rails and slammed into him immediately. The moment he got too close, the entire zone began to discharge into him, arcs of lightning bouncing around the zone and against parts of the core, here and there and everywhere. Scoria gritted his teeth and fell to his knees, which only made the lightning strike harder, sending his health rapidly downward. Scoria quickly cast as many healing spells as he could, then reached out into the lightning and did his best to conjure up one of his elemental spheres. This was a pure place of lightning and magnetism, one that he could return to. He just needed a sample. So the druid sat there and focused, drowning out the pain in favor of making his lightning sphere. The moment it was finished, the alchemist booked it out of there and rushed back into the tunnel system, only stopping to check that the sample was relatively pure. A dab of earth and anima, but almost pure lightning. That... would do. The druid slumped against the wall and let out a sigh. Four left. Damn, he was getting close. The anima, mana, and miasma could definitely come later. They technically weren't even 'elements' anyway, but rather some form of primal fabric. Whatever. Philosophy and existentialism was beyond him. Scoria walked slowly away from the lightning zone and healed himself back up, staggering away and searching for some other zone. He hadn't quite left the underground yet, he was searching for one of two things. Either a natural source of fire, some sort of volcano or superheated zone, or a place that he could call an area of pure darkness, some place so dark it could be considered not the absence of light, but the presence of darkness. He was entirely unlikely to find a 'natural source of pure light' down here so deep that wasn't tainted with some other elements, like earth for glowing rocks or anima for any fauna. So he ventured further down into the dark with his lamp, deeper into the caves. A quick inspection of his interface informed him that it was now, in fact, nighttime. Darkness it was then. Scoria just continued deeper and deeper into the darkness. The lamp gave him light enough that he thought perhaps he would never find a place of pure darkness, but again, he was looking for darkness, not the absence of light. People could tell you 'cold is the absence of heat' and while scientifically, that was true, it was not so relevant when dealing with magic. Magic worked by its own rules, and those rules needed to be respected. Scoria grumbled under his breath and continued deeper into the caves. Deep enough so that he eventually found rather strange plants, the oddest of things. He cast his healing spells to keep from dying down here and noticed they perked up too, but at the same time, shriveled and sunk away from the light. Plants that lived in the darkness. Interesting. Scoria tapped his lantern closed and let his eyes slowly adjust to the darkness, closing and opening them slowly so as to try and catch any light that existed down here. After all, low-light was not no light. The Druid walked forward further for a while, sensing the presence of these flowers and fauna as he moved past, rusting in response to his magic. Eventually, by slowly walking and following the curve of the earth itself, Scoria landed in a somewhat open area. At this point, he moved slowly, through the sound of rustling plants alone, and only guessed at the locations around him. Still, this... seemed like darkness. It was an area filled with these plants that liked the dark, he could tell, but in front of his eyes... It was something darker than the pitch blackness around him. As if that was even possible. It was as though he was seeing some sort of mana construct, something darker than 0, 0, 0. Perhaps only because he was a druid and alchemist could he see it, this zone so dark that it perhaps fed the plants around it. He wanted to investigate it, but not at the cost of destroying what he was seeing. If it meant that he'd have to destroy this... 'dark sun' and all the plants that lived here, there was simply no way. So he reached forward and took a deep breath, hoping not to corrupt what he was drawing darkness out of. The sphere shimmered for the briefest of moments before becoming as pitch as the area around it. An easy process, but a difficult area to get to. Huffing quietly, Scoria turned around the way he came and walked as far as he could before he was certain he was no longer in that place. Only then did he check his pure darkness sphere. A sample of naturally occurring darkness, with the natural taint of anima that seemed to sneak into so many of his orbs. Three left. Back to Snowdonia! This was starting to get a little bit tiring. Scoria had left the Londinium Underground far, far behind in his quest to find some pure element whatevers. This one was literally as easy as it could get. Now that this zone had opened, there was snowfall year round and Scoria had no issues whatsoever finding a good time or place to get the snow he needed. Perfect. Great. This post was going to be incredibly boring, but because finding each element really ought to take one post of serious searching, reviewer-senpai was just going to have to deal with reading the drivel that followed. It would have been nice to make this more interesting, but there really wasn't much to say. Unless Scoria made it harder on himself. That was a good idea. The druid decided that snow was packed with air and fluff and was not pure ice, and he needed pure ice, so he bundled himself up and went hunting for some ice caves. It wasn't a terribly difficult find, considering the man had jumped off a cliff here recently, so he entered the ice cave with some level of conviction and began wandering through the underground ice cave network. Good thing there weren't any frozen lakes or he'd have the easiest time ever. At any rate, the bloke continued onwards into the depths of some silly ice cave until he found a spot he was looking for. Something cold and hard and it didn't really let through much light but it was super densely packed ice. Kinda deep in the cave. Fine. Great. Whatever. There really was no challenge to this now that Snowdonia was open. At all. Scoria scoffed under his breath and placed his hands against the cold surface, feeling the frost settle in and sap him of both his strength and hp. Whatever. As they say in video games, 'Wurf'. With that in mind, the druid popped out another one of those super fancy elemental bauble things. Seeing as Ice was both made of water and relatively see-through (which is why he found something that didn't let much light through), the bauble that came out was fairly pure ice element, but... It also had the taint of water and light. Oh well. Done deal, he was going home. This quest for this particular element was obnoxiously easy and he was kind of happy for it. Two left. Light and Fire. Two left. Scoria clenched his teeth and huffed. He and the writer were both surely getting tired of this and just wanted it to be over with. The process had drug out for quite a long time now, and although there were certainly people who could write endless drivel about this and that or the other for 2000 words, Scoria's writer was not one of them. Right now, at least. Anyway, he had some pure elemental hogwash to find so he could finally finish up this research thread. God. This one was literally taking forever. And he could say literally now because literally now also meant figuratively, according to the Oxford dictionary. Anyway. Light. Scoria shuffled through town collecting mirrors and reflective surfaces for a while, buying them from Landers and sweet-talking his way into getting what he wanted using that wonderful Courtesan skill of his. Sooner rather than later, he had acquired a rather large number of mirrors and was transporting them to the rooftop of Kings. With Alraune's help, of course. The lady in charge wasn't quite pleased, but she accepted Scoria's weirdness as part of the general treaty they had going on, and at the end of it all, Scoria had gone and set up a curved ring of mirrors. Now what did curved mirrors do? They reflected light towards a certain area. And what did all these mirrors look like? A satellite. And satellites tended to collect all the waves into a center point. Scoria made some finishing adjustments and moved the mirrors about, then stood in the center and waited for noon to come. As the light curved down and slammed into the mirrors, it reflected back towards the center point of Scoria's design. Some basic physics at work had the light all going towards the center, and it wasn't "artificially created light", it was just redirected. Different and not technically cheating. After all, he did have to wait for noon for the greatest concentration of light. Without anything in the center to hit, the light didn't seem to be doing anything, but Scoria could see the dust specks shimmering hard. This would work out alright. He placed his hands around the center point and waited patiently, creating another one of his spheres around the air. There was really no good way to create a vacuum in such a space and some air would leak in, sure, but the sphere quickly coalesced and the result was a brightly glowing sphere. His gloved hands spun the sphere around a bit and inspected it, noting the traces of fire and air, a natural result of the heat and space. Still, it was pretty pure. And that was good enough for Scoria. One left. Thank the heavens. Fire [] Ice [X] Lightning [X] Earth [X] Wind [X] Water [X] Darkness [X] Light [X] Anima [] Mana [] Miasma [] Tags Here

Miasma zone, go. Scoria popped into the Miasma realms, desummoning any of his familiars on principle. He wasn't going to be exposing any of them to this nonsense. Instead, he just stepped forward and rubbed his hands together, diving straight into the miasma zone and moving rapidly. Corruption was on a time-based counter, so time was an actual concern here. Even though he had been so adamant about not being able to capture Miasma earlier, he was here for a purpose. He was certainly not going to be able to find the source of the miasma, but instead, he was searching for fire in this area. The miasma realms were known to be strange zones where strange things happened and, not knowing where else he was going to find volcanoes or lava, Scoria wandered here. Well, wandered was wrong. More like he ran like a bat out of hell through the area, trying to find the zone with the most heat. His steps were quick as he searched through this zone and that zone, ducking into a cave and wandering quickly through it as he brushed aside lower-leveled monsters like they were trash. He just kept moving through searching for the aberration he wanted, turning his lamp on in the cave and moving deeper and quicker still. The headaches were starting to show up now, which meant that he had dropped into Stage 1. Fantastic. Scoria scowled and grumbled as he advanced towards the heat, moving around the zone faster and faster still. Damn, he wished he had a place to rest without having to deal with this stupid stuff. Eventually, he stumbled on a strangely hot source of earth and, in his druid ways, decided the appropriate thing to do was abuse his druid skills. The actual thing he did was not a druid thing, however. Terra Orbital Kick. Pulling up a chunk of earth with the skill, Scoria hopped backwards to avoid driving his leg into a lava-covered chunk of earth. Well alright then. Lava found. Fire search commencing. This was going to hurt like a bitch, he knew. Like Lightning, Fire was a form of energy transfer. When he had gotten lightning, he had been electrocuted for it. To get a natural source of fire, he had to use this ever-burning lava. But... Scoria grimaced, promised himself some ice cream later, and thrust his hands into the lava. After about 10 seconds of screaming, Scoria dropped back into Londinium with charred hands and critically low hp. That was definitely the shittiest element to get. And it wasn't even super pure. Mixed up with earth. Whatever. The druid whimpered quietly in his back alley zone and cast as many healing spells as he could manage. Done. Finally. After a bit of quiet rest and sleep, Scoria flexed his fingers and sighed quietly. They looked alright. He really wasn't looking forward to doing that again. Still, with any luck, he wouldn't have to. The Druid wandered over to his workshop and scratched his ear, sitting down. No more work in the field now. What he wanted to make was a regulator. The idea was fairly simple. If he took out his Air Sphere and poured some mana into it, the sphere would release a gust of air in an uncontrolled fashion. So what Scoria needed was a regulating device. Honestly, the idea was pretty simple. It was just a way to maintain a constant input for the sphere. In other words, it was an operational amplifier with feedback. For those without the electrical engineering knowhow, it would basically create windup and winddown thresholds for mana usage to allow the the device to wind up to a certain constant 'voltage' and stay that way. It was all adjusted based on some constant values and input and a whole ton of technical jargon that most people honestly wouldn't get without a background in electrical engineering. And while Scoria didn't exactly have that in spades, he did have the experience needed to make that windup and winddown section. The reinforced wire would feed the whole thing into the actual orb, and using the same principle as the insulating gloves, Scoria created a hard shell with some extra fragments. It was basically a socket now, but Scoria needed to get the leads running. Pulling the wires about, Scoria adjusted the input flow again and sent some mana through the leads. It puttered to life slowly, then began blowing out air. Mmm... Not quite. Scoria went back to fiddling again, adjusting the leads and 'voltages' here and there, attaching a fragment as a constant source of mana. Scoria applied mana once more to the leads and separated the relevant voltages, pushing more and more mana into device until it finally wound up and let the air out all at once. Good. Scoria wound the mana down again, passing the 'turn on' point and enjoying that the machine still worked. Eventually, it dropped past the 'wind down' threshold and rapidly turned off. The thresholds could be changed with a little knowhow, and the output intensity... well, that was just a matter of adjusting a few things about the regulator. That wouldn't be hard to teach and required a little fiddling with mana, but it wasn't anything too difficult. Not doable on the fly unless you were an owner of alchemist gloves though. Tags Here
